Guy Ritchie’s Fountain of Youth has been a dominant force on Apple TV+ ever since it debuted. Starring John Krasinski and Natalie Portman as the sibling duo of Luke and Charlotte Purdue, the movie has been a huge hit for the streamer and reportedly earned 765.5 million minutes watched in its first week alone, despite receiving just 35% from critics and 38% from audiences. However, one of Fountain of Youth's big early rivals has finally bitten back, reclaiming its throne on the streaming platform.
As of August 7, director Scott Derrickson’s The Gorge is back at the top of Apple TV+'s movie streaming charts in the U.S. Starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller, the movie received a much better reception than Ritchie's Fountain of Youth upon arrival, illustrated by a 62% critics' score and a 75% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Yet, behind the glowing reviews, Taylor-Joy was grappling with serious doubts about whether she’d ever work again.

Why Didn’t Robert Downey Jr. Consider Doing Iron Man 4? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Robert Downey Jr. put Iron Man on the map. Before him, Tony Stark was just another comic book character. But Rdj? He turned him into a full-blown icon. So, naturally, after the success of Iron Man 3, Marvel fans expected another solo movie. Except Downey, who wasn’t exactly jumping at the chance.
Sure, he kept showing up in the MCU—Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame. But when it came to Iron Man 4, he wasn’t sold. Not because Marvel didn’t want it (they definitely did), but because Downey had some serious reservations. He didn’t want to overstay his welcome, he had other projects brewing, and—he wasn’t getting any younger. So why exactly did Rdj hesitate to suit up again? Let’s break it down.

After 8 long years since the last film in the trilogy, Disney is yet again reviving the Cars franchise as a new TV series for Disney Jr. This means that the entertainment juggernaut is again committing the error of reviving a franchise that ended on a high note with the film trilogy, and a reboot no one asked for.
As reported by Collider, this new spin-off series will see the return of Lightning McQueen and Mater on the screen.
This revival will only sully the great legacy that Cars left behind with Owen Wilson at the helm. And as we have seen time and time again over the years, the demand for remakes and reboots has become almost non-existent.

You may have heard that actor Matt Smith has recently been cast as a villain in Star Wars: Starfighter, starring opposite Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth. Starfighter will be released on May 28, 2027. This marks the second theatrical release after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, following director Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is planned for May 22, 2026.
Smith is no stranger to playing the villain, and with a multitude of alien races in the Star Wars universe, it’s hard to know how he'll show up as he faces off against Gosling. So, who is Matt Smith? Here are some of the actor's most well-known roles, pulled from his IMDb page.
Doctor Who
In the long-running BBC science fiction series, a relatively unknown Smith landed the coveted title role as the Eleventh Doctor after David Tennant's exit from the show in 2010. His primary run as Doctor Who spanned Seasons 5, 6, and 7.
The Crown
In 2018, Smith earned his first Emmy nomination for his portrayal of Prince Philip in the Netflix series "The Crown."
House of the Dragon
Smith is most recently known for embodying the ruthless Prince Daemon Targaryen on HBO’s "Game of Thrones" spin-off "House of the Dragon." He is slated to return for Season 3 of the series, which is currently in production.
Last Night in Soho
Director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) cast Smith in his psychological horror film Last Night in Soho, also starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Thomasin McKenzie.
Morbius
As part of Sony's extended Spider-Man universe, Smith took another villain role in 2022's Morbius, playing opposite Jared Leto.

Sydney Sweeney is no stranger to dominating the cultural conversation—you may have noticed the actress has been in the news lately. While her latest thriller Echo Valley continues to rack up impressive viewership on Apple TV+, the Euphoria and Anyone But You star is once again at the center of a media firestorm. Produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Beast and Encounter filmmaker Michael Pearce, Echo Valley stars Julianne Moore as a weathered horse trainer whose reclusive life is shattered when her daughter Claire (Sweeney) arrives—bloodied and hysterical.

According to FlixPatrol, it trails only The Gorge (starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller) and the John Krasinski/Natalie Portman adventure Fountain of Youth, while outperforming high-profile titles like Wolfs and Greyhound.

Mel Gibson’s return as Max Rockatansky in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome is now just a click away. The 1985 post-apocalyptic thriller, often considered the most ambitious and theatrical entry in the original trilogy, is now streaming free on Tubi starting August 1. Max Max Beyond Thuderdome holds a Certified Fresh 81% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, solidifying its legacy nearly four decades later. The film, however, has a 49% audience score, which is in major contrast with what the critics have to say about the film. While it’s stylistically different from the lean brutality of The Road Warrior, Thunderdomecemented Mel Gibson’s status as a global action star and expanded the franchise's cultural footprint well beyond Australia.
Those familiar with the franchise from its 21st-century reboot can now enjoy how the same dystopia was brought to screens back then, and at no cost, because of Tubi’s ad-focused, subscription-free model. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome...

Netflix Fans Still Mourn This Epic Fantasy Series 5 Years After Cancellation ( Photo Credit – Netflix )
Fans still bring up The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance like it never left even five years after Netflix pulled the plug. This fantasy series, despite being cancelled in 2020, has not slipped out of people’s top picks. For some, it is right up there with Dark and Stranger Things, mentioned in the same breath and remembered just as vividly.
What is Netflix’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance About?
The story, which is set on the planet Thra, zooms in on three young Gelflings who uncover the ugly truth about the Skeksis, the ruling class feeding off life itself. The three, Rian, Brea and Deet, try to rally scattered clans to fight back. It might sound a simple enough idea on paper but what the show pulled off was anything but ordinary.

Jason Momoa is nothing if not committed to his movie roles, and he has been proving that again after undergoing a shocking transformation for his return to the Dune franchise in Dune: Part Three. Yes, after six years of rocking a manly chin-mane, Momoa has done the unthinkable and had a shave – and he absolutely hates it.
While it is not uncommon for actors to undergo some changes for certain movie roles, Momoa’s comment about it being six years since he last made a clean-shaven appearance anywhere is because that was the first time he played Duncan Idaho in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part One.
Sharing a video of the moment he lost his signature fuzz, Momoa said, “Only for you, Denis,” referencing Villeneuve directly. He followed this by adding, “Goddamnit! I hate it.” It would probably be fair to say that many people would agree with him, but not to worry,...

Taking to his Ig, Jason Momoa shared a clip of him shaving his beard ahead of Dune 3‘s shoot, which will mark his return as Duncan Idaho. Moreover, if Denis Villeneuve returns true to Frank Herbert’s second novel, we could see one of the more problematic bits from the story translate on the big screen, featuring the marriage of Paul’s sister Alia and Duncan.
While a controversial match-up, especially when seen through modern lenses, it’s nowhere near as close to what HBO did with an already problematic plot point involving Emilia Clarke‘s Daenerys.
The risky Duncan Idaho storyline is still tamer than what Game of Thrones did to Emilia Clarke
For the unversed, Duncan Idaho and Alia, Paul’s younger sister, whose presence is acknowledged in the sequel, engage in a romance subplot, something that might not fare well with modern audiences if adapted for the big screen.

Imagine spending the rest of reality's existence with one person. Before the film heads to the Toronto International Film Festival in September, A24 released the first trailer highlighting her predicament as she's stuck between not one, but two potential partners to share forever with. Guillermo del Toro Praises Free-to-Stream Horror Comedy For “Dark sense of humor and looming menace”
Tubi is quickly becoming one of my favorite streaming services. I hate advertisements, yet even I can tolerate their limited ad breaks. Not to mention, they have a wide variety of genre programming, including everything from the cult classics of years past to celebrated contemporary efforts.
Speaking of critically lauded fare released recently, the streamer’s impressive lineup presently features a contemporary feature that won over the majority of fans and critics. Not to mention, it also caught the eye of one Guillermo del Toro. Keep reading below for his profound, yet concise take on the picture.
I love that del Toro makes a food pun in his assessment. Nice work, sir. In all seriousness, this is one that warrants checking out if you haven’t seen it. If you have seen The Menu, it’s worth paying a repeat visit. The flick is plenty clever and there’s likely...

The moment Ralph Ineson’s towering stature enters into frame and his God-like voice is heard, the moviegoing audience knows they’re in particularly good hands.
Thus, The Fantastic Four: First Steps director Matt Shakman understood full well the type of gravitas he’d be receiving when he offered Ineson the role of Galactus, the planet-devouring demigod and recurring foe of Marvel’s first family. In the first hour of what is now the definitive live-action adaptation of The Fantastic Four, Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) return home from an unsuccessful parley with the cosmic entity, and they are visibly shaken by the threat they just encountered, something Ineson’s performance conveyed with ease.

Jason Momoa had a proud Dad moment at the premiere of his new Apple TV+ series, which has been compared to Game of Thrones, as he took the opportunity to rave about his son, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, being cast in a key role in Dune: Part Three. Momoa's offspring will make his film debut in the third installment of Denis Villeneuve's epic space opera trilogy alongside his father, who is reprising his role as swordsmaster Duncan Idaho despite the character's heroic sacrifice in the first film adaptation of Frank Herbert's seminal sci-fi novel.
News broke in June that Nakoa-Wolf had joined the cast of Dune: Part Three, having signed on for a significant role alongside Ida Brooke. The two stars will be playing Leto II and Ghanima, the twin offspring of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya), heirs to the Atreides empire. The teenage son of Jason Momoa...

After several weeks of dominating the Apple TV+ streaming charts, director Scott Derrickson’s The Gorge was replaced at the number one position by Guy Ritchie’s Fountain of Youth. Subsequently, the rather low-key thriller Echo Valley claimed the top spot for a few weeks following its debut. But Fountain of Youth soon reclaimed the top spot. The $180 million action-adventure film is still the number one title on Apple, while Echo Valley has slipped further down the rankings. It’s now the number three film on the infamously exclusive streamer, behind The Gorge.

Charli Xcx and George Daniel are officially hitched, and they did it in true Brat style. Yep, the Party 4 U pop revel and The 1975 drummed tied the knot at Hackney Town Hall on July 19 in a low-key ceremony surrounded by their close family and friends. While their official “I do” moment was a simple affair, that was actually just the beginning. As an insider revealed to The Sun,
Charli and George fell in love with Sicily and knew they wanted to get married there… There will be no expense spared… It can go on all night.

The 2025 Emmy nominations were filled with some jaw-dropping picks, with several actors and programs beating the Gold Derby's odds.
In our latest snap poll, readers said the bids for Zoë Kravitz and Meghann Fahy caused their jaws to drop the widest. Kravitz was previously snubbed at the Emmys for Big Little Lies, but she received sweet justice this week for portraying herself — at least, a fictionalized version of herself caught in a drug-related mishap — on The Studio. In all, the Apple TV+ show received 23 nominations, more than any other first-year comedy in Emmy history.
As for Fahy, she's a former Emmy nominee for The White Lotus whom awards pundits forecasted would be overlooked this year for the Netflix limited series Sirens. But that wasn't the case. She clearly wowed voters in her role of Devon DeWitt, a woman who tries to protect her younger sister Simone (Milly Alcock) from her...

A decade ago, Robert Eggers suddenly broke into Hollywood, seemingly coming out of nowhere, and made his mark with the darkly twisted, unsettling, and fanatical debut feature, The Witch. The film not only brought Anya Taylor-Joy into the industry but also elevated Eggers to a maestro of horror.
His unmatched skill with the genre has since then been unquestionable. Equipped with exactly the kind of scripts that make A24 go over the moon, Eggers steadily rose in Hollywood by breaking norms, challenging propriety, questioning the status quo, and examining socio-political and religious truths without offending either the orthodoxical society, politics, or religion.

Werwulf was first revealed in January 2025, not long after Eggers released his vampire movie Nosferatu. That film also starred Taylor-Johnson and Depp,...

Robert Eggers will be reuniting with two of the stars of his hit gothic horror remake Nosferatu for his upcoming creature feature Werwulf. Slated to open on Christmas Day in 2026, Werwulf will feature a script co-written by Eggers and Sjón. While no plot details have been revealed, the movie will reportedly be set in 13th-century England and shot entirely using Old English dialogue, with annotations and translations throughout to ensure understanding.
The new film will no doubt fall in line with Eggers' typical style, which is marked by intricate attention to detail and period realism, along with a healthy dose of spine-chilling dread. There was a sneaky tease for Werwulf buried in Nosferatu's extended cut, but Eggers' latest will be another stand-alone movie like the rest of his directorial filmography.

Nintendo is currently hard at work on both The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 and The Legend of ZeldaMovie, which are in various stages of production. Moviein 2023, Donkey Kong might be next in line to enter the big screen.
In May 2025, Nintendo and Universal Pictures filed for copyright registration for an "untitled Donkey Kong Project" at the U.S. Copyright Office, and it is described as a "motion picture." While neither Nintendo nor Universal Pictures has made any formal announcement for Dk's film adaptation, this copyright license marks the first step toward seeing this iconic ape in theaters.

Director Robert Eggersdelivered the biggest hit of his career only a few months ago, making good on a decade-long promise to become one of the foremost genre filmmakers of his generation. Despite the critical acclaim that he'd been showered with, not to mention the devoted cult following he'd earned for himself, Eggers hadn't made a bona fide blockbuster before Nosferatu last year. His previous attempt, the revenge saga The Northman, had flopped at the box office. However, the movie was a major hit on the PVOD market. It's now witnessing a resurgence on HBO Max, coinciding with the finale of star Alexander Skarsgård's Apple TV+ series Murderbot.
Released in 2022, The Northman debuted to excellent reviews, with particular praise being directed at the film's ambitious scope and Eggers' handling of the action sequences. It holds a "certified fresh" 90% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics' consensus reads,...

Two years after The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released and became one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time, Universal may have subtly announced that another project in this beloved Nintendo universe is on the way. The original movie premiered in 2023 and introduced audiences to Mario (Chris Pratt), Luigi (Charlie Day), and countless supporting characters from the Mushroom Kingdom.
With updates on The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2being unfortunately sparse, it seems like Universal Pictures may be focusing its attention elsewhere to expand this universe in a different direction. The studio recently acquired the film copyright for an untitled Donkey Kong movie, which could be the first of several spinoffs in Nintendo's budding movie franchise (via publicrecords.copyright.gov).

A recent copyright filing suggests that Nintendo and Universal are planning to make a Donkey Kong movie.
Thirty years after its first foray into movie-making, Nintendo hit the box office jackpot with The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a CG-animated adventure about a plumber. Made in collaboration with animation house Illumination and Universal Pictures, the mushroom-encrusted romp made over $1.3bn worldwide, and Nintendo’s plans for further videogame adaptations began in earnest.
One project revealed to be in the works is a movie based on Donkey Kong – the anarchic ape character whose origins stretch back to the 1981 arcade machine of the same name. The film hasn’t been officially announced yet, but a filing at the US Copyright Office suggests that something called ‘Untitled Donkey Kong Project’ is at least in the early planning stages. (This was brought to our attention by Discussing Film on Bluesky.)

Although this AppleTV+ film didn’t receive the best reviews from critics, upon its release, it still enjoys positive attention from the streaming audience, which isn't stopping anytime soon. The Gorge, starring Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy, debuted on the streamer on February 14, 2025, and it currently has a lukewarm 62% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 145 reviews. On top of that, several disapproved of the mixture of multiple genres that eventually began to lag in the movie, but still praised the lead duo's performances.
Despite the reviews, The Gorge debuted strong on the streaming charts, hitting the top spot globally and maintaining that position for weeks. Later in June, the film dropped to #3, still among the top global performers, a position it still holds to date, even in the U.S., as reported by FlixPatrol. It currently has a popularity score of 679, far ahead of Wolf’s 461 and behind Echo...

This weekend, audiences around the world are heading to their cinema of choice to catch the long-awaited arrival of James Gunn’s Superman on the big screen. And, if after you return from the theater, you’re looking to check out other pieces from the movie’s leading cast, we’d advise you to look no further than The Menu, which has just arrived on a new streamer. Every superhero needs a supervillain, and for David Corenswet’s Superman, that nemesis comes in the form of Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor. But, before he was plotting the demise of The Last Son of Krypton, Hoult was just trying to snap the perfect picture of the meticulously laid-out plate in front of him in Mark Mylod’s satirical horror film, which is now available on Tubi.

Chris Pratt will always be known for his role as Star Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, but a few years ago, he starred in a major blockbuster that has returned to streaming charts. Pratt stars alongside Anya Taylor-Joy and Jack Black in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the 2023 animated hit that sees Pratt voice the titular character, with Taylor-Joy voicing Princess Peach and Black as the villainous Bowser. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is currently streaming on Prime Video in America and both Prime and Netflix globally, where it’s charting in the top 10 in over 25 countries. The film earned a “rotten” 59% from critics but a “verified hot” 95% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it also grossed $1.3 billion at the global box office on a $100 million budget.
Aaron Horvath, Michael Jelenic, Pierre Leduc, and Fabien Polack all co-directed The Super Mario Bros. Movie with a script from Matthew Fogel.
