Star Wars Gave Obi-Wan's Informant An Awesome Pirate Backstory - & Nobody Noticed
Image
Dexter Jettster from Star Wars had a centuries-long pirate past before becoming close friends with Maz Kanata and the Jedi. The High Republic era reveals Dex's adventurous backstory, making his friendship with Obi-Wan Kenobi more meaningful. Dex's connection to Maz Kanata and the Jedi showcases the depth of storytelling in redefining beloved Star Wars characters.

In the Star Wars galaxy, it seems that everyone has a complex backstory but the fan-favorite Dexter Jettster has a backstory that a lot of viewers have seemed to miss. First introduced in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, Dexter Jettster served as Obi-Wan Kenobi's informant and longtime friend, whom Obi-Wan goes to for advice. Owning a diner in the 'CoCo Town' neighborhood of the Galactic Republic's capital planet of Coruscant, Dexter was always a unique and appreciated character - whose lore has spread to a surprising place.

Starting in 2021, The High...

"What Happened to No Attachments?" Star Wars Calls Out Jedi's Lightsaber Hypocrisy
Image
Warning: contains a preview for Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #5!A new preview of Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #5 issues a challenge to the Jedi, questioning whether they actually stick to the famous principles of their Order. Considering how ingrained these ideas have become, it's surprising how something as core to the Jedi identity as lightsabers could betray them.

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #5 has the creative team of Daniel José Older, Toni Bruno, and Michael Atiyeh. The story has been following Savina "Sav" Malagán, a Jedi Padawan who is torn between the Jedi Order and her life among pirates with Maz Kanata. As a result, she has been undercover and struggling to figure out who she will be. Nonetheless, she is currently trying to save the Republic while allied with Maz. However, the teachings she is learning seem to conflict with reality, as seen in a...

Star Wars Finally Has Another Jedi Worthy of a Purple Lightsaber
Image
Spoilers for Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #1 ahead! As Mace Windu has proven, only the coolest Jedi get to wield a purple lightsaber in Star Wars, but now the High Republic era has introduced another Jedi worthy of carrying one.

Things were much different in the galaxy during the High Republic era, which is set centuries before the prequel trilogy. The Jedi Order was thriving and in full swing, protecting the galaxy as well as exploring it. However, just because it did a good job recruiting and training young Force-sensitive kids, doesn't mean those kids would stop from being mischievous. Padawan Sav Malagan felt such an urge to strike out on her own that she snuck out of her quarters to hang out at Maz Kanata's castle.

Star Wars Preview Introduces Maz Kanata's Ancient Pirate War (Exclusive)
Image
Warning: this post contains a Preview for Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #2!Screen Rant is excited to share a new preview of Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #2, kicking off a pirate war between Maz Kanata's crew and her rivals hundreds of years before her debut in The Force Awakens. Having been the Pirate Queen of Takodana as far back as the High Republic era (if not earlier), this new series has revealed that Maz won her fortress and authority on Takodana after conning a Geonosian known as Arkik Von out of the score. However, it looks as though Arkik is looking for some major payback against Maz and her crew, which includes an undercover Jedi Padawan seeking a pirate's life of adventure.

In the first issue of The High Republic Adventures, Jedi Padawan Sav Malagán sneaks out of the Jedi Temple on Takodana to enjoy the night-life at Maz's castle,...

Star Wars Breaks Down Maz Kanata's Mystery by Introducing Her Crew
Image
Warning! Spoilers for Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #1 ahead!Maz Kanata has been one of the more mysterious characters to have been introduced into Star Wars lore in recent years, but a new comic might be breaking down some of that mystery.

Maz Kanata was first introduced in Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, where she owns a castle that was essentially a stand-in for Mos Eisley's cantina. She came off as a very wise and experienced individual with a very non-intimidating physical presence. However, the importance of her character exploded when she revealed that she somehow had Anakin Skywalker's old lightsaber. She even gave it to Rey, thus triggering the movie's climactic final battle in the woods of Starkiller Base.

Obi-Wan's Attack Of The Clones Ally Has Been Helping Jedi For Centuries
Image
This article contains spoilers for Star Wars: The High Republic #1.Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones introduced viewers to Dexter Jettster, an old friend of Obi-Wan Kenobi - who has apparently been helping Jedi for centuries. Star Wars has always been a transmedia franchise - the first tie-in novel, Alan Dean Foster's Splinter of the Mind's Eye, was published back in 1978, before the release of The Empire Strikes Back. It's no surprise, then, that Star Wars is giving Obi-Wan Kenobi's prequel era informant - the four-armed Besalisk named Dexter Jettster - a backstory.

Kiersten White's novel Padawan reccently revealed the first meeting between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Dex. They first crossed paths when Obi-Wan was just a Padawan, when Dex was participating in a mining mission on the living world of Lenahra. Though neither realized it at the time, the whole mining program was actually a...
