In late February of 2020, shortly before the pandemic shut down just about every avenue for an independent country singer to make a living, Angel White was already living in a vacant hotel, playing underground shows with theme nights. One of those themes, “ghosts of the West,” stuck with him. The fifth-generation Texan knew it would matter at some point.
“I didn’t know what I wanted it for,” White tells Rolling Stone, “but I knew I wanted to call something ‘Ghost of the West.’ It’s an ode to the Spanish cowboy,...

“All the guys was fresh, all the girls were going on dates. The whole city was lit, and I was outside on the street with my guitar playing music,” Ink remembers. “I wanted to go in there so bad,...

Ransom Canyon, Netflix’s new Western romance series based on the books by Jodi Thomas, has plenty of opportunities for a good needle drop, and music supervisor Madonna Wade-Reed made sure to take advantage of all kinds of music available to her and especially emotional moments in the series to put song to.
From Gracie’s Dance Hall, owned by Minka Kelly’s Quinn O’Grady, to the raucous rodeo scenes mid-series, many a familiar country artist and other folk bands and groups feature as the backdrop to the storyline, which contains a murder mystery element, several love stories and a struggle over land and territory between ranching dynasties and the development company Austin Water and Power.
One particularly memorable moment involves Josh Duhamel’s Staten Kirkland getting pretty drunk and throwing a Hootie and the Blowfish jam on the jukebox in Quinn’s bar.

Who better than Kacey Musgraves to bring Finneas into the Nashville headspace? On Monday, Apple Music debuted the singer’s Nashville-recorded, three-song bundle that included a duet of “Giver / Taker” from her recent album, Deeper Well.
The performance video opens with the pair joking about breaking guitars and Finneas having an “empathy crisis” if he ever smashed his instrument. For the rendition, Musgraves kicked off the first verse, before sharing lines in the chorus with Finneas. (The duo jokingly called themselves rebels for performing the track without in-ears.)

Before Charley Crockett kicked off this particular show, he hung out, sipping from a red plastic cup and making small talk the same way he has before most concerts in his nearly two-decade career. He only got wide-eyed once, when someone in his camp asked how a rodeo could get so big, and relished the chance to explain its worldwide appeal. Brazilians dominate the American bull-riding circuit, Crockett said, because of the country’s long history of cowboy culture. Only when an event organizer shouted, “Charley, we’re ready!” did...

Updated, March 27, 2025: A new trailer, set to “Texas Sun” by Khruangbin and Leon Bridges, has arrived for Netflix’s latest Wester TV series Ransom Canyon, based on the book by Jodi Thomas.
“In Ransom Canyon,” Josh Duhamel’s voice says over shots of ranchers riding horses, the main thoroughfare of the small Texas town, high school football games and more. “Everyone’s running from something, or running to something.”
Duhamel stars as Staten Kirkland, one of the main ranchers in the titular town, who is part of a large ensemble of the new Netflix show, out April 17.
“What’s up with that guy anyway?” Jack Schumacher’s Yancy Grey, who can be seen later on in the trailer risking it all for a rodeo ride, asks Cap Fuller (James Brolin) about the stoic Staten.
“He lost everything,” Brolin replies over a montage of a car wreck and police sirens.

The Voice Season 27 advanced to the second stage of the competition on Monday with "The Battles Premiere." In this round, each coach enlisted the help of an industry advisor as they counseled pairs of artists set to take the stage in head-to-head battles where only one would emerge victorious. Country group Little Big Town joined Kelsea Ballerini, entertainment icon Kate Hudson supported Adam Levine, R&b songstress Coco Jones was brought on board by John Legend, and Wicked Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo held space with Michael Bublé. Each coach has been refreshed with two advantages to use during the Battles: a save, to keep a battle loser on their team, and a steal, to snatch a battle loser from one of the other teams.

What is Valentine’s Day without a romantic mixtape? Well, the soundtrack of “Love Hurts” may not exactly be romantic, but it still brings good vibes to the action film.
Now in theaters, “Love Hurts centers on realtor Marvin Gable, who loves his job and very ordinary life. But when he suddenly gets an unexpected valentine from his ex-girlfriend who’s hellbent on revenge, he gets ripped back into his old life — one of violence and crime.
Together(ish), they work together to bring down his crime lord brother and make it out alive.
Naturally, you need a good soundtrack to do all this. Surprisingly though, the song “Love Hurts” isn’t actually in the film “Love Hurts.”

When you finish watching “You’re Cordially Invited,” odds are pretty good you will have one song in particular stuck in your head. But it is still a pretty robust soundtrack.
Now streaming on Prime Video, “You’re Cordially Invited” brings together two families who have unknowingly (and quite unintentionally) double-booked weddings on the same day. The problem is, the venue only typically hosts one wedding every weekend due to the size of the place. So, they decide to figure out how to share — but not nicely.

Warning! Spoilers about Virgin River season 6, episode 10 ahead.
The soundtrack of Virgin River season 6 includes iconic songs and less prominent ones that fully capture the themes and atmosphere of the emotional drama romance. Taking off months after the two-part Christmas special that comprised the last two episodes of season 5, Virgin River season 6 kicked off in the midst of the planning for Mel and Jack’s wedding. The major event guaranteed small and bigger bumps in the road related to its organization and the bigger problems the joyful town of Virgin River’s characters found themselves facing, including illnesses, daring saves, problems with the law and budding relationships.
With Virgin River season 5 introducing the surprise of Mel’s biological father hailing from Virgin River, a major storyline in season 6 involved the two getting to know each other, and music played an important part because of Everett’s hobby and his unfinished song for Sarah,...

“Virgin River” is all about the ambiance. The cozy romance transports viewers to a tight-knit community tucked away in the scenic town of Virgin River, but the sounds are just as important as the sights in setting that scene. Especially in Season 6!
Netflix’s “Virgin River” always sets its scenes to a soundtrack full of folksy melodies and gentle acoustics, but Season 6 puts music front and center in the love story between Mel’s biological parents, which transports viewers back to Virgin River in the ’70s when her father was an aspiring musician. It even prominently features an original song by The Lumineers’ Wesley Schultz titled “This Heart of Mine.”
It’s a jam-packed soundtrack as usual, so if you’re trying to keep track of the needle drops, here’s a handy guide to all the songs in “Virgin River” Season 6.

Season 12 of “The Masked Singer” continued Wednesday night on Fox with “Quarter Finals.” Following the studio audience vote that sent Goo and Strawberry Shortcake into a fierce Smackdown, Strawberry Shortcake emerged victorious leaving Goo to be unmasked. The slimy singer became the 11th eliminated singer of the season, and was revealed to be Los Angeles Rams defensive end Kobie Turner. Watch our video interview above.
“I had so much fun,” he tells Gold Derby. “Being able to be up under the Goo mask was such a great time. To be able to be my silly self, break out all the dance moves, and just be able to carry around that heavy costume. When it came to the singing part, it definitely presented some challenges breath-wise, but to be able to lunk around in that big costume was so much fun.”

The Twisters soundtrack is loaded with country songs, many of which were recorded and produced specifically for the movie, to help give audiences a great time. Set in modern Oklahoma, the Twister sequel is a mixture of recapturing the fun of the 1996 original and updating it for present-day audiences. This was done by having rising stars with popular followings like Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell headlining Twisters' cast. The film's goal of being the ideal summer blockbuster also means providing a great selection of songs throughout.
The original 1996 Twisters soundtrack relied heavily on pop and rock music to give audiences some recognizable music. The sequel went in a very different direction, embracing the Oklahoma setting for a set list primarily focused on country songs and artists. There are still some non-country music choices included in the movie. Regardless of the music genre, the 2024 blockbuster relies almost exclusively on using songs...

For years, the conversation around Leon Bridges focused on his ability to channel bygone eras: the way his warm delivery recalled velvet-voiced singers from the Fifties and Sixties, how he appeared right at home on production that felt like it’d been piped in from Motown’s heyday. He became a kind of poster kid of nostalgia, constantly admired as an old soul seemingly trapped in the present day —a reminder of how much better things always appear in the rearview.
And then, after a while, that narrative started to feel tiresome.
