‘Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’ Voice Actor Cody Christian On Bringing Vulnerability To The Combat-Ready Cloud Strife; “I’ve Experienced Things Very Much Similar To What Cloud Is Going Through In My Real Life”
Image
Let the record show that despite embodying one of the most well-known (and well-armed) protagonists in video game history, Final Fantasy VII’s stoic ex-soldier Cloud Strife, Cody Christian, does not carry around his own six-foot-long, one-foot-wide Buster Sword to solve his problems. No. Instead, the actor admits that he deals with the ebbs and flows of life and career in a much more humble way. “There’s [a] honesty and vulnerability that we see in Cloud,” said Christian. “[And] I think they’re very powerful and relatable on such a human level. I’ve experienced things very much similar to what Cloud is going through in my real life. And I don’t wield the Buster Sword, and I’m not fighting Shrina to save the world. I’m similar in a lot of ways where I could put this tough look on. But the reality is if you talk to me,...

‘Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’ Voice Actor Briana White On Life, Death And The Beauty Of Playing Aerith; “She’s Fun And Playful Even In The Face Of Intense Fear”
Image
Briana White would be lying if she said that sometimes carrying the weight of playing the iconic flower girl, Aerith Gainsborough, didn’t affect her at all. But miraculously, after metaphorically stepping into the character’s well-traveled leather boots these last four years from Final Fantasy VII Remake to its recent predecessor Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, she’s gained the strength to manage. “[It’s] really hard sometimes for me as an actor to let go of all the expectation and let go of what everyone might be thinking about or perceiving about a specific scene,” said White. “It’s one of the biggest challenges, but something that’s so crucial to the performance is being able to let go of everything outside the booth. I consider myself to be very resilient…I think that’s something Aerith [and I] have in common.”

‘Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’ Director Naoki Hamaguchi On Examining Life, Death And The End Of The ‘Remake’ Trilogy
Image
[Spoiler Alert: This interview includes details about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth]

The highly anticipated action-adventure RPG Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has finally been unleashed into the Chocobo wilds.

Rebirth, the second game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy that serves as a three-part reimagining of the original 1997 game, follows everyone’s favorite ragtag eco-terrorists Cloud (Cody Christian), Barret (John Eric Bentley), Tifa (Britt Baron), Aerith (Briana White) and Red Xiii (Max Mittelman) as they make the perilous journey to The Forgotten Capital in hopes to stop the legendary solider and deranged superhuman Sephiroth from plunging the planet into chaos.

Bringing the Final Fantasy VII Remake project to fruition was no easy feat as developers had to tackle maintaining a balance between the beloved story that has permeated video game pop culture for nearly three decades and creating new experiences for a new generation of fans while expanding on the original material for diehards. Much like its predecessor, the scope of...

Casting A Live-Action Final Fantasy 7 Movie: 18 Actors Who Would Be Perfect
Image
Fan-casting a live-action Final Fantasy 7 movie is amusing, although replicating some characters in live-action form may be challenging. For example, Cody Christian, Briana White, and Natasha Liu Bordizzo have the acting chops to convincingly portray Cloud Strife, Aerith Gainsborough, and Tifa Lockhart in a live-action adaptation. Cody Fern, Winston Duke, and Max Mittelman would bring the right blend of charisma and talent to play Sephiroth, Barret Wallace, and Red Xiii in a live-action Final Fantasy 7 movie.

Whether it should stay an animated property or not, there's something inherently amusing about fan-casting a live-action Final Fantasy 7 movie. While some characters seem near-impossible to replicate in live-action form, there are some performers out there with the acting chops to pull off a convincing Final Fantasy 7 adaptation. In fact, fan-casts for the Square Enix game stretch back to when it was first released in 1997. Not only is FF7 one...

The 12 Best Valentine's Day Horror Movies
Image
Valentine's Day means different things to different people. For some, it's a joyous celebration of the people in their lives. For others, it's a painful reminder of loves lost and broken hearts. Then, for the rest of us, it's a springboard for silly slashers about lovesick killers. Second only to Christmas, Valentine's Day might well be the most popular holiday in slasher flicks. The innate tension between treacly intimacy and gonzo gore is too good an opportunity to pass up, and for time immemorial, creatives have merged both love and fear in increasingly twisted ways.

Some recent editions to the horror canon, like "Bones and All" and "Spring," while not strictly speaking Valentine's Day-themed, are deeply romantic, reminding audiences of how perfectly the two disparate emotions can coalesce into something amazing. Here, we'll be looking at horror movies specifically about the most romantic day of the year. From old school slashers to creepy,...

Set Photo From The Walking Dead Finale's Original Ending Reveals Adult Versions Of Judith And Rj Grimes
Image
From the pilot episode to the recent series finale, Judith Grimes has been a handy bellwether for how much time has passed in "The Walking Dead." She started out as just an embryo, the result of a dalliance between Lori Grimes and Shane Walsh. Judith was finally born in a rather traumatic episode of "The Walking Dead" season 3, and steadily grew into a toddler over the next few seasons. A six-year time jump in the middle of season 9 boosted her to nine years old, and by the time the show signed off with season 11's "Rest in Peace," Judith is approximately 11 or 12 years old.

She also has a little brother, Rick Grimes Jr. (aka Rj), the result of Rick Grimes Sr. and Michonne coupling up. As of the end of the series, however, Rick Sr. still has no idea that he has a son, since he was blown off a...

Glow Canceled at Netflix Despite Earlier Season 4 Renewal
Lady Dynamite (2016)
Not too long ago, “Netflix will greenlight anything” was a strong enough meme that it was featured as a joke on actual Netflix shows like Lady Dynamite and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Now that meme is in danger of becoming “Netflix will cancel anything.”

The streaming giant today announced that it has canceled its two remaining Jenji Kohan-produced shows: Glow and Teenage Bounty Hunters, according to Deadline. The latter’s cancellation comes after just one season and the former’s cancellation arrives despite the show previously being confirmed for a fourth and final season.

In the case of Glow, the cancellation comes due to the coronavirus-related shutdowns and the difficulty of producing a highly physical show based on professional wrestling.

“We’ve made the difficult decision not to do a fourth season of Glow due to Covid, which makes shooting this physically intimate show with its large ensemble cast especially challenging,...

‘Glow’ Season 4 Canceled Due to Covid-19 Pandemic
Image
“Glow” will not proceed with Season 4 at Netflix as planned, Variety has confirmed.

The Emmy-nominated Netflix comedy series about a troupe of female professional wrestlers had originally been renewed for a fourth and final season, but plans for that season have now been scrapped due to production delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We’ve made the difficult decision not to do a fourth season of ‘Glow’ due to Covid, which makes shooting this physically intimate show with its large ensemble cast especially challenging,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement. “We are so grateful to creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, Jenji Kohan and all the writers, cast and crew for sharing this story about the incredible women of ‘Glow’ with us and the world.”

The show had been renewed for its last season last year. Production had begun on Season 4 earlier this year but was shut down early on due to the pandemic.

The Thing About Harry Review: Freeform's Belated Gay Valentine Is Heartwarming, If Not Groundbreaking
Jake Borelli and Niko Terho in The Thing About Harry (2020)
First things first: You would have to be one seriously hardhearted bastard not to love The Thing About Harry, Freeform’s belated gay Valentine (premiering Saturday, Feb. 15, at 8/7c). Its leads — Grey’s Anatomy’s Schmitt, Jake Borelli, and newcomer Niko Terho — have chemistry for days. The script, co-written by director and co-star Peter Paige (Good Trouble), goes down as easily as a box of chocolates. Rare is the bestie/wingwoman who’s as appealing as Britt Baron (Glow). And the movie’s “Will they or won’t they?” moments are way more loaded than they have any right to be.

‘Glow: Season 3′ Review (Netflix)
I’ve been a fan of Netflix’s Glow show since it first landed a couple of years ago on the platform. It’s a total joyous, wild, funny, gritty and dramatic program that ticks so many of the boxes I look for in my television drama. Oh, and it’s about pro-wrestling, something else I’m pretty damn fond of. So, I was of course clicking the play button the moment Season 3 landed on Netflix this August.

It’s one of those shows where you simply cannot just watch one episode. It’s as binge-worthy as they come, and the whole “just another episode” concept was in full motion when I sat down to watch the new season, and I finished it in two sittings. Season three retains the high quality storytelling that we’ve become accustomed to with the previous seasons, and yet it manages to up the grittiness,...

‘Glow’ Season 3: A Little Less Conversation, A Little More Action, Please

Carmen’s in a unique position among the Netflix dramedy’s main characters. Almost everyone else fell into wrestling by accident, or for lack of a better option, where Carmen grew up in the wrestling world and loves it for its own sake.

Glow Season 3 Review: The Lights Aren't as Bright for the New Season
Jackie Tohn, Alison Brie, Sydelle Noel, Kia Stevens, Betty Gilpin, Kate Nash, Britney Young, and Gayle Rankin in GLOW (2017)
If you jump into Glow Season 3 without having watched the first two seasons, you might think Glow stands for the lights of the gleaming Las Vegas Strip.

Wrestling is more of an afterthought now that the ladies have reached new, dizzying heights headlining a Las Vegas revue.

The different locale impacts the series overall allowing for deeper character insight but at the cost of what makes Glow glow. The fun factor takes a hit.

To headline a Las Vegas show, you need a product that plays night after night. There isn't room for mistakes because even one error can end the production.

Like a Broadway play, the performers put on show after show and do the same, repetitive routines. That's what a Vegas show is all about.

Four Weddings and a Funeral Review: Serviceable, But Uninspired

Unfortunately for the series, the gorgeous ladies of wrestling are just like the other ladies on the strip.

Dear Emmys, please don’t K.O. ‘Glow’ stars Alison Brie and Marc Maron from the acting races
Last year Netflix’s “Glow” reaped eight Emmy nominations, including Best Comedy Series and Best Comedy Supporting Actress for Betty Gilpin, winning prizes for its production design and stunts. Yet stars Alison Brie and Marc Maron were nowhere to be found in the respective lead and supporting categories, despite bids at the Golden Globes (Brie) and SAG (Brie and Maron). With the second season garnering even better reviews than the first, voters should make up for their shocking snubs.

See Alison Brie interview: ‘Glow’

Year two of the ’80s set comedy about lady wrestlers provides Brie with some primo material to work with. Ruth Wilder, the aspiring actress who hits her stride while in the ring, gets her ankle broken by her scorned best friend (Gilpin), fights off the advances of a leering network executive, explores new creative outlets by directing the show-within-a-show, and finds new love with a sweet-natured...
