Cobra Kai: I Loved How Johnny’s Story Ended, but There’s a Perfect Idea for How Daniel Larusso Saves Mike Barnes Too
Image
Spoiler Alert !!!'Cobra Kai' season 6 spoilers ahead!

Cobra Kai has proven to be one of the finest installments from the Karate Kid franchise, bringing about tropes and storylines that we just couldn’t have enough of. For one, it raged on the screens for over six seasons consisting of a total of 65 episodes, from May 2018 to February 2025, and I still feel heartbroken about the show going off air.

Cobra Kai. | Credits: Netflix.

Yet, as excellent as it was in delivering all those plotlines, the series could have fixed quite a bit for some of the characters – like Mike Barnes. On the one hand, while William Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence had a moving conclusion to his arc, I think there was the perfect way Ralph Macchio’s Daniel Larusso could have saved Sean Kanan’s Mike too.

Daniel Larusso could have saved Mike Barnes in Cobra Kai Mike Barnes.

Cobra Kai's Overblown Ensemble Cast Creates A Giant Problem In Season 6 Part 3
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Cobra Kai" season 6 part 3.

At the end of the day, "Cobra Kai" has always been Johnny Lawrence's (William Zabka) show. The series finale, titled "Ex-Degenerate," confirms as much, both with its title that nods at the series premiere "Ace Degenerate" and its plot that keeps a laser-like focus on his journey.

Despite this, "Cobra Kai" has kept expanding its cast over the years, often spending entire seasons to introduce and develop complex new combatants to throw at an established name. This has been highly entertaining, especially since it has kept things from getting stale, and these new faces tend to be quite interesting. Unfortunately, this leaves season 6 with a massive problem: Since comparatively few characters actually exit the show at any point, the final season is overstocked with supporting characters and hangers-around it's either unable or unwilling to deal with. It doesn't help that the...

Cobra Kai Producer Shares Status Update on Possible Spinoffs at Netflix After Series Finale
Image
Cobra Kai is over, after a six-season run culminating with the finale on Netflix. Though the sequel series to The Karate Kid franchise may be over, the future for Daniel Larusso is wide open with Karate Kid: Legendspremiering in 2025 - starring Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio.

Though that may not be the only sequel that could happen. Whilst the main story of Cobra Kai is over, there’s now a whole army of karate kids/teenagers scattered across the world, and with so many characters going to so many places, there are ample possibilities for the future of the franchise on streaming.

15 Cobra Kai Characters, Ranked Worst To Best
Image
Cobra Kai blended old and new characters well, with some needing more development. Refocusing on the originals in the final season. The show has managed to create engaging character arcs and personalities, with potential for spinoffs for newer characters. Not every character received their due attention, but the mix of personalities has kept the story engaging and entertaining.

Cobra Kai combined brand new characters with those audiences already knew and loved from the Karate Kid movies, though some are better developed than others. The Netflix series is headed into a sixth and final season, so the various character arcs will presumedly be wrapped up. This means characters like Johnny Lawrence and Daniel Larusso will have their stories laid to rest while some of the newer characters are set up for potential spinoffs. Overall, Cobra Kai has managed some great characters with engaging, fun, and entertaining personalities and arcsbut which is the best?...

'A Crucial Moment': Cobra Kai Showrunner Explains Character's Death in Final Season
Image
Cobra Kai showrunner Josh Heald recently discussed Season 6, Part 1, explaining the importance of a major character's death on the show. Tory Nichol's mother dies in the current season after being ill for much of the fan-favorite martial arts show.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Heald explained the importance of the traumatic loss for the story arc of Peyton List's character, Tory. "There are some 'Always' and some 'Sometimes' when it comes to the writers' room. After Season 1, it became a living organism, we had Season 1 completely in our heads when we entered the writers' room for Season 1, and it was more about telling the troops what we're doing, who's going where we take the castle, and we do it," the showrunner said.

While he couldn't get specific, the actor teased that there may be some exciting appearances from "one or two" franchise stars. Cobra Kai Season 5 Ending Explained (In Detail)
Image
Larusso defeats Silver in Cobra Kai season 5 finale, unveiling Silver's criminal plans and securing Miyagi-Do's victory. The Sekai Taikai storyline sets the stage for a massive showdown, as students unite to expose Silver's corruption. Cobra Kai season 6 promises more rivalries, a final battle between Silver and Kreese, and the Sekai Taikai conclusion.

The ambitious and wildly satisfying Cobra Kai season 5 finale not only saw Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) defeat the head of the snake, Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith), but it also concluded many of the stories Cobra Kai has told since season 1. Cobra Kai's season 5 finale was a multi-layered and massively complex jigsaw puzzle. However, the big picture was that Terry Silver and his plans to turn Cobra Kai into a global organization had to be stopped.

Terry's ultimate master plan was to break out of the San Fernando Valley and bring Cobra Kai to the masses worldwide.

Why Cobra Kai Season 6 Took So Long To Make
Image
Cobra Kai season 6 faced production delays due to the 2023 strikes and Netflix's delayed renewal. Season 6 is the biggest yet with 15 episodes split into three parts, premiering on July 18, 2024. Previous seasons were released quickly due to completed episodes before acquisition and a year for production.

After two long years of waiting, Cobra Kai season 6 (part 1) is finally premiering on July 18, 2024, and several reasons can be attributed to the delay between seasons. Netflix's martial arts comedy-drama TV series, created by Robert Mark Kamen, serves as a sequel to the original Karate Kid movies and features the return of Ralph Macchio as Daniel Larusso and William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence. Cobra Kai picks up 34 years after the events of the first Karate Kid film and follows Johnny and Daniel's drastically different lives as Johnny is now a handyman and Daniel owns a car dealership.

'We're Not Building Toward A Bunch Of Storylines:' Cobra Kai Creators Discuss Ending the Series
Image
Cobra Kai will end its successful run on Netflix with its upcoming sixth season. As a result, creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg say the creative process behind the final installment was very different from previous outings.

"Unlike every other season, we're not building toward a bunch of storylines that are going to remain in flux and remain unresolved, and try to come up with the season's cliffhanger and where do we want to turn up the heat," Heald told ComicBook, ahead of the Season 6 premiere. "There's a lot of that along the way in Season 6, obviously, because it's split up in three parts. But one of the most enjoyable things was thinking about the endgame that we've had in our heads from the beginning."

Ralph Macchio Explains How Cobra Kai Ties Into New Karate Kid Film
Image
The upcoming Karate Kid movie will have ties to the popular franchise spinoff series Cobra Kai. While Ben Wang will star as the protagonist, the film will also feature Ralph Macchio reprising his role as legacy character Daniel Larusso.

Speaking to Collider while promoting the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai, Macchio explained the film's subtle links to the series in terms of his character. "I can't go into too much detail at this early point. That movie's not hitting until May 30, 2025," the actor said. "But yeah, it was important to me. Mainly, to me, it was about always being true to Larusso. I tried to play truth in 1983 when I originated this character, and still always, throughout Cobra Kai."

While Ben Wang will star in the new Karate Kid movie as the protagonist, it will feature Ralph Macchio reprising his role as Daniel Larusso. Cobra Kai Creators Explain Why the Netflix Series Had to End With Season 6
Image
The story of Cobra Kai will be coming to its conclusion with the upcoming sixth season. Ahead of the first part's debut on Netflix later this month, the show's co-creators have commented on why Season 6 had to be the end for the show.

The series was created by Hayden Schlossberg, Jon Hurwitz, and Josh Heald. Schlossberg and Hurwitz addressed the series in a new chat with Screen Rant, describing how Season 5 helped set up the story's endgame. This essentially necessitated the series to end with Season 6. Though the series has also made the move from YouTube to Netflix during its run, Hurwitz pointed out how there was always a plan for the series finale in mind, but they didn't know at the start how many seasons it would take to get there.

Cobra Kai Season 6 - Cast, Writer, And More Info
Image
Much like Daniel Larusso went from underdog to All-Valley karate champion, "Cobra Kai" has gone from a legasequel no one asked for or had too much faith in, to one of Netflix's biggest hits. The TV sequel to "Karate Kid" became a shining beacon amidst the fast-decaying YouTube Red streaming platform, offering a thrilling, compelling, and endlessly watchable story with complex characters and a fascinating story of legacy, rivalry, and generational patterns. All of this wrapped in a juicy karate-themed soap opera where everything and everyone revolved around the martial art.

When the show made the jump to Netflix, it became the closest thing to a live-action anime that we've got. Somehow, just like the "John Wick" movies revealed that the entire planet revolves around hitmen, "Cobra Kai" does the same with karate. Gangs are formed around competing dojos, no one seems to call the cops even when houses...

Cobra Kai Season 6 Gets A Filming Update From Miguel Diaz Actor
Image
Xolo Maridueña, who plays Miguel Diaz, confirms that filming for Cobra Kai season 6 is set to resume very soon. Season 6, episode 1 has already been filmed, but filming was halted due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, which came to an end earlier this month. Cobra Kai season 6 will serve as the show's last and most of the core cast is expected to return, with a storyline that could be the most action-packed yet.

Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña provides a promising update regarding when season 6 is expected to continue filming. Serving as a continuation of the story first started in 1983's The Karate Kid, the series follows older versions of Ralph Macchio's Daniel Larusso and William Zabka's Johnny Lawrence, the latter of whom eventually trains Maridueña's Miguel Diaz. Cobra Kai first aired in 2018 and, after season 5 was released on Netflix last year, it was confirmed that the series would return for one final season.

Johnny's Story Still Needs To Solve A Big Cobra Kai Mystery
Image
Although a lot has changed in Johnny Lawrence's arc since Cobra Kai season 1, a mystery from his past still looms over his overarching storyline. After starting at the bottom in Cobra Kai's opening episodes, Johnny Lawrence has come a long way over five seasons. From being a resentful, self-centered man, unwilling to question John Kreese's toxic Cobra Kai teachings, Lawrence has transformed into a merciful fighter, an empathetic friend to Daniel Larusso, and a protective father figure to Miguel and Robby.

By understanding how his anger and entitlement have gradually chipped away years from his life, Johnny has realized that staying in John Kreese's shadow can never lead to anything good. Therefore, in Cobra Kai season 5, he refuses to comply with Kreese's self-fulfilling demands and abandons him in prison. How Old Are Cobra Kai's Characters Supposed To Be?
Image
The younger cast members of Cobra Kai all play teenagers in high school, and they are all relatively close in age. Actress Peyton List expressed confusion earlier this year over the current ages of the teens as they continue to grow out of high school. While many of the character's birthdays aren't explicitly mentioned, many of them are in the same grade and therefore could be determined based on what school year they are in.

The events of Cobra Kai begin 33 years after the events of The Karate Kid, beginning in 2017 when many of the teenagers are entering their sophomore year. With the Cobra Kai timeline now taking place in the summer of 2019 as of season 5, most of the students are now going into their senior year and on the verge of becoming adults. The consistency of the timeline helps make it easier to determine how old the Cobra Kai characters are.
