Dwayne Johnson’s 72% Rotten Tomatoes Comedy Dubbed the NFL's Replacement for ‘Entourage’ Leaves Streaming Soon
Image
Dwayne Johnson, often referred to as The Rock, is no stranger to the sports industry, having been a professional wrestler since 1996. The WWE icon has also been involved in several sports-related productions over the years, one of which is the HBO comedy drama Ballers, in which he portrayed Spencer Strasmore, an NFL player forced into retirement who embarks on a new career path as the financial manager of other NFL players.

Ballers debuted on HBO on June 21, 2015, and concluded after a five-season run on October 13, 2019. Nearly four years later, the fan-favorite series found a new home on Netflix, where it has been streaming since August 2023. Sadly, its time on the platform is about to come to an end, as What’s on Netflix lists it as one of the titles leaving Netflix on August 15.

Season 1 of Ballers was the most successful of all five seasons, earning a Certified Fresh score of 81% on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ Creator Sascha Penn and Star Patina Miller Talk Kanan and Raq’s Final Confrontation and Introducing [Spoiler] at Last: ‘I Expect Big Reactions on Both Sides’
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for “Gimme the Weight,” the Season 4 finale of “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” now streaming on Starz.

Since its debut in 2021, “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” has taken fans on a dark and stormy ride. The family crime drama centers on teenage Kanan (MeKai Curtis), who, having been raised by his cutthroat queenpin mother, Raquel “Raq” Thomas (Patina Miller), transforms from the innocent school-focused boy to the murderous villain (portrayed by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson) who resurfaced in “Power” seeking vengeance and blood.

Though Kanan, Raq, her brothers Marvin (London Brown) and Lou-Lou (Malcolm Mays) and Kanan’s cousin Jukebox (Hailey Kilgore) were originally a tight-knit (though criminally minded) crew, greed, power, death and deception have continually fractured their bond.

In the final moments of the Season 4 finale, “Gimme the Weight,” Kanan and Raq find themselves in a stunning confrontation. Enraged by the murders of his best friend,...

Shameik Moore in ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ (Photo Credit: Starz)

Starz’s Power franchise finally revealed the identity of Branford ‘Breeze’ Frady. The character’s been talked about since the franchise first launched back in 2014, but it wasn’t until Power Book III: Raising Kanan season four’s finale that Breeze appeared on screen, played by Shameik Moore (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse).

Shameik Moore will continue playing Breeze as a new series regular in the upcoming fifth and final season. Per Starz: “Known as a drug kingpin from Jamaica, Queens, Breeze employed a young Kanan Stark, as well as James St. Patrick and Tommy Egan, with James and Tommy as his corner boys.”

The finale, which aired on May 15, 2025, showed Snaps (Wendell Pierce) and Pop (Erika Woods) introducing Kanan (MeKai Curtis) to Breeze. The introduction is a “lasting tie” between the original series and the prequel.

“It was...

Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 5 to Wrap Up the Series
Image
Starz has added Shameik Moore to the cast of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, introducing him in tonight’s season four finale as the highly anticipated “Branford ‘Breeze’ Frady.” Moore will join the cast as a series regular in the prequel series’ upcoming fifth season, which has also been confirmed as the final season.

“It was always my intention that ‘Raising Kanan’ would run for five seasons, and thanks to my friends and partners at Starz and Lionsgate, as well as the incredible cast, crew and writing staff, I’ve been able to tell the entirety of the story I set out to tell way back in 2019,” said said Power Book III: Raising Kanan executive producer, writer and showrunner Sascha Penn.

Penn added: “Having said that, with the table we’ve set in this season finale and the inevitable introduction of Breeze, there is still an exceptionally intense and action-packed...

‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ to End With Season 5, Shameik Moore Joins Cast
Image
“Power Book III: Raising Kanan” will end with its upcoming fifth season, Variety has learned.

The show just aired its fourth season finale on Starz. The fifth season was announced back in March 2024, though it was not known that it would be the final season until now.

Spoilers Ahead For The “Raising Kanan” Season 4 Finale

Shameik Moore has joined the show for its fifth and final season. He made his first appearance in the Season 4 finale as the often mentioned but never before seen character Branford “Breeze” Frady.

“The ‘Power’ Universe fans have been patiently anticipating this moment and I’m honored to step into the iconic role of Breeze,” said Moore. “I jumped into a story that is already alive with such strong characters, but it was a fun challenge to find Breeze’s unique identity, and I can’t wait for fans to see how Breeze will shift dynamics in the story.

[This story contains spoilers for the season four finale of Power Book III: Raising Kanan.]

Power Book III: Raising Kanan season four just came to a close, but the previously announced season five is around the corner. To that end, we’ve got some good news and some bad news.

The good: Shameik Moore has been cast as Branford “Breeze” Frady. The fans have been waiting on that one.

The bad: Power Book III: Raising Kanan season five will be its last.

Ok maybe it’s not so bad; showrunner Sascha Penn says this was “always” his “intention.”

“It was always my intention that Raising Kanan would run for five seasons, and thanks to my friends and partners at Starz and Lionsgate, as well as the incredible cast, crew and writing staff, I’ve been able to tell the entirety of the story I set out to tell way back in 2019,” Penn said. “Having said that, with the table we...

Claiming Her Power: Patina Miller Wants Raq to ‘Get Everything She Deserves in This Man’s World’ in Starz’s ‘Raising Kanan’
Image
With her bombshell blowout, fur coats and stiletto boots, Patina Miller’s Raquel Thomas takes the air out of every room she enters. The hardened matriarch and mother to Kanan in Starz’s “Raising Kanan” has had to work twice as hard to earn her stripes in the drug game in Queens and gain the respect of the men around her.

“Raq is the type of woman that will put her head down. She is always two to three steps ahead of everyone,” Miller told TheWrap for our latest digital cover story. “She goes into fix it mode. She is not one to wallow in any given situation.”

Set in the 1990s, the spinoff of 50 Cent’s Starz series “Power” chronicles a young Kanan Stark (Mekai Curtis), played by the rapper in the original series, as he helps his mother’s growing business and navigates the drug world on his own.

Tony Danza Channels His Inner Gangster in ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ Sneak Peek [Exclusive]
Image
Lines are being drawn in the sand today in a Collider-exclusive sneak peek of the upcoming installment of Power Book III: Raising Kanan. This week will mark the fourth season’s seventh episode, “Allow Me to Re-Introduce Myself,” which pushes the story further into what we can only presume will be a vicious, drama-filled, and brutal climax as Patina Miller’s Raquel Thomas continues her journey to become the biggest and most feared name in the drug dealing game. While MeKai Curtis, who plays the show’s titular lead, is absent from our exclusive sneak peek, audiences are invited to pull up a chair and sit in on a brainstorming session between Raquel, London Brown’s Marvin, and Tony Danza’s Stefano.

In a pinstriped button-up with his long white hair falling behind his shoulders, Stefano (Danza) gives his allies a breakdown of their competition. Things aren’t looking...

‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ Review: Season 4 Confirms That Starz’s Crime Drama Is One of TV’s Best Family Soap Operas
Image
Raquel “Raq” Thomas is not molded after your typical TV queenpin. She isn’t an unassuming victim who suddenly finds herself rising to power in a bid to save herself from degradation, to lift her family out of financial ruin or to reluctantly take on the unscrupulous responsibilities of a dead husband. And she’s certainly no mere “gender-flipped” response to the lovable antihero archetype that dominated television in the early aughts.

No, Raq is just a born killer in sultry peekaboo sweaters and curve-hugging leather pants who can’t abide a power vacuum. She does not hesitate before pulling a trigger. Even more ominously, she’s a mother and sister who wields her love like a rope, using her devotion to control more than to nurture. Beware momma’s kiss: Her lips are laced with poison.

Played by Patina Miller in one of TV’s most magnetic (and beautifully costumed) under-the-radar lead performances,...

One Power Book Show Gives Me A Huge Amount Of Confidence In The New Spinoff
Image
The Power universe has expanded with several successful spinoffs, including Raising Kanan. Raising Kanan proves that prequels set in the Power universe work well by deepening existing characters and building out the world. The Ghost and Tommy prequel, Power Book V: Origins, could be even better than Raising Kanan because it centers on two of the franchise's most compelling characters.

Although the original Power aired its finale in 2020, I'm excited to return to the crime drama's world from yet another angle in an upcoming Ghost and Tommy prequel and another Power "Book" show reaffirms my optimistic outlook. Created and produced by Courtney A. Kemp, in collaboration with Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Power landed on Starz back in 2014 and, ultimately, ran for six successful seasons. While Power's cast of characters expanded as the series continued, the show mainly focused on James St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), a ruthless dealer who goes by the alias Ghost.
