Paul Greengrass is returning to the genre of survival drama with his latest film, The Lost Bus. It's been five years since the director's last film, News of the World, was released in 2020, and the filmmaker is now teaming with Apple TV+ to distribute this latest project. Much like Greengrass' previous works, Green Zone, Captain Phillips, and July 22, The Lost Bus is based on real events— in this case, California's 2018 Camp Fire, which is still regarded as the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history. A new teaser released by Apple features Matthew McConaughey, who stars as a bus driver navigating the roads to get children and their teacher to safety amid wildfires and destruction.
The brief one-minute teaser released for the movie (which can be viewed below) depicts Kevin McCay (McCounaughey) reluctantly coming to the decision to volunteer to pick up stranded children as the wildfire begins to grow.

To date, the 2018 Camp Fire remains the most devastating wildfire in California’s history, leaving 85 dead, 150,000+ acres burned and more than $16 billion in damage. It’s no surprise the story is being turned into a movie; now, we have the first teaser for that adaptation, titled The Lost Bus.
The teaser, which came from Apple TV+ this weekend, shows just a part of the scope of the deadly wildfires, with much focus put on Matthew McConaughey’s school bus driver as he takes on the task of filling the bus with children caught up in the disaster. All it takes for him to spring into action is a call asking, “There’s a situation at Ponderosa Elementary. There are 23 kids who are stranded. Is there anybody in the area that can pick them up?”
The Lost Bus seems like a perfect fit for both director Paul Greengrass and McConaughey, who have yet to team up.

As California continues to rebuild after the wildfires earlier this year, Apple’s latest survival drama immortalizes the deadliest fire in the state’s history.
In the first teaser for Paul Greengrass’ The Lost Bus, premiering this fall in select theaters and on Apple TV+, Matthew McConaughey plays school bus driver Kevin McCay, who navigates infernal danger to rescue 23 stranded kids and their teacher Mary Ludwig (played by America Ferrera) from the 2018 Camp Fire.
The film also stars Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson and Spencer Watson.
Co-written by Greengrass and Brad Inglesby, The Lost Bus is inspired by true events featured in Lizzie Johnson’s 2021 book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire. Igniting in Butte County in November 2018, the Camp Fire caused 86 fatalities and burned more than 150,000 acres.

Since his acclaimed 2013 drama Captain Phillips, Paul Greengrass has had a bit of a rocky career. There was an unnecessary return to the Bourne franchise, the misstep that was 22 July, and the pandemic-hobbled release of News of the World. He’s now back five years later with hopefully a strong return to form. The Lost Bus, scripted by Brad Inglesby and based on Lizzie Johnson’s Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire, will arrive this fall in theaters and on Apple TV+. Ahead of the release, the first trailer has now arrived.
Here’s the synopsis: “The Lost Bus is a white-knuckle ride through one of America’s deadliest wildfires, as a wayward school bus driver (Academy Award-winner Matthew McConaughey) and a dedicated school teacher battle to save 22 children from the terrifying inferno.”

Apple Original Films has released the official teaser trailer for The Lost Bus, giving a first glance at Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera in the forthcoming dramatic thriller centered around California’s 2018 Camp Fire.
The film is based on Lizzie Johnson’s fact-based novel Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire, which chronicles the state’s deadliest fire ever. In the teaser, a dispatcher can be heard saying, “There’s a situation at Ponderosa Elementary. There are 23 kids who are stranded. Is there anybody in the area that can pick them up?”
McConaughey’s Kevin can be seen picking up a walkie-talkie to seemingly answer the dispatcher’s call. Later, a harrowing clip of a school bus driving through a blaze is shown.

Gritty. Sombre. Grey. Literally, very grey, because this is Portland, Maine: the cold, northern, almost Canadian bit of the USA where men are men and, seemingly, lobsters are the only business in town. Well, lobsters, and drugs. Because smuggling your contraband in lobster pots is the way to go.
Downeast is the very downbeat tale of a cold case murder. Mikey (Spencer Watson) and Tommy (Greg Finley) are best of buddies: Tommy is on the verge of dating Mikey’s sister, Emma (Dylan Silver). Then tragedy strikes. Mikey is murdered, in an incident that “no-one knows nuffink about.” Unless you count small fish crime lord Kerrigan (Judson Mills) or his homicidal henchperson Brennan (Joss Glennie-Smith). But they’re not saying neither!
It’s as you’d expect in a community where every other person connects to organised crime in one way or another: either working for the local boss or...
