China producer-distributor Lian Ray Pictures is launching sales on a raft of diverse titles that are set for release this year, including works by directors Han Yan and Feng Xiaogang and with stars Zhao Liying and Zhang Zifeng.

Set for a release on July 5, Han’s sci-fi action adventure Per Aspera Ad Astra revolves around a virtual dream system that allows users to create their own dreams, with rising stars Dylan Wang and Victoria Song in the cast along with veteran Zu Feng. Director Han is known for 2020’s A Little Red Flower.

Nothing like some campy Chinese fantasy action to start the day, right? The first teaser trailer has debuted online for a new Chinese fantasy-adventure-action film directed by action veteran Renny Harlin titled Legend of the Ancient Sword. Based on the video game "Gu Jian Qi Tan 2", the film centers around a young student of a lost martial arts form (called "Yan") who heads out from his hometown to find a great master. The main cast includes Leehom Wang, Victoria Song, Godfrey Gao, Karena Ng, Julian Cheung, Archie Kao, Ada Liu, and Li Yan. This looks pretty much exactly like it sounds: packed with CGI action, vibrant sets, eccentric characters, and a flaming "ancient" sword. Have fun. Exclusive: Beijing-based filmmaker Dayyan Eng has started shooting contemporary comedy fantasy Wished, with a hot ensemble cast including Xia Yu, Yan Ni, Victoria Song and Pan Binlong.

Produced by Eng’s Colordance Pictures, the film follows a 30-year-old career guy who runs into a magical ‘celestial being’ at a point when he is becoming disillusioned with life. She tells him she can make all his wishes come true – including those from childhood.

“He’s typical of a lot of young guys, especially the so-called post-80’s generation in China, who thought they would own the world after leaving college, but after being out in the real world start questioning what the definition of success is, and what it means to be happy in life,” says Eng.
