Fremantle Sees Half-Year Revenue Fall 5.4% Due To U.S. Drop, As Streaming Shines For Rtl In Mixed Results
Image
Got Talent producer Fremantle has seen its half-year revenue fall 5.4%, as parent Rtl posted a mixed interim results in which streaming shone but sales and profits fell.

Fremantle’s revenue for H1 came in at €905M ($1.05B), down from €957M for the same period a year ago. This was attributed to lower revenue from the U.S. and “phasing effects,” and was partially offset by bringing Asacha Media Group into the fold.

In the U.S., the drop had been expected as 2024’s numbers had benefitted from America’s Got Talent spin-off America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League.

However, Fremantle’s adjusted Ebitda, which Rtl noted was the metric most of the production business’s rivals use, increased 7.2%, without breaking out numbers.

Rtl also addressed the €3B full-year revenue target that has begun to hang around Fremantle’s neck like an albatross, saying the group would “continue to invest significantly in IP development,...

Fremantle Revenue Slips in H1 as Rtl Group Ramps Up Streaming, Seals Sky Deutschland Deal
Image
Fremantle’s revenue fell 5.4% in the first half of 2025 to €905 million ($1.053 billion), largely due to lower U.S. sales and phasing effects, as parent Rtl Group accelerated its shift toward streaming and confirmed its acquisition of Sky Deutschland. The decline was partly linked to the first half of 2024 benefiting from a spin-off of “America’s Got Talent.”

On Friday, Luxembourg-based Rtl Group reported group revenue of €2.781 billion ($3.236 billion) for the six months ended June 30, down 3.2% from €2.872 billion ($3.343 billion) a year earlier. Adjusted Ebita dropped 7% to €160 million ($186 million), with lower TV advertising revenue partly offset by sharply reduced streaming start-up losses, down 59.5% to €34 million ($39.6 million). Group profit fell to €59 million ($68.7 million) from €173 million ($201.7 million) a year earlier, mainly due to one-time effects and fewer positive fair value adjustments.

Fremantle’s adjusted Ebitda margin increased to 7.2% in H1/2025 from 6.6% a year earlier, even as revenue declined. Under its “boost plan,” the global production...

The Yogurt Shop Murders: HBO & A24’s Chilling Docuseries Left The Crew Shaken — What It’s About & Where To Watch It?
Image
The Yogurt Shop Murders: What’s It About & Where To Watch Online? (Photo Credit – YouTube)

A chilling unsolved case from 1991 has been turned into HBO’s latest four-part docuseries, The Yogurt Shop Murders. It revisits the brutal rape and murder of four teenage girls—Amy Ayers, sisters Jennifer and Sarah Harbison, and Eliza Thomas—inside a frozen yogurt shop in Austin, Texas. The horrific crime shocked the nation and left the victims’ families devastated.

Margaret Brown, who directed this docuseries, shared in a recent interview that it affected people back then and had a mental impact on the film’s team who worked on this project and came in close contact with the original footage. Here’s the series and where and how you can watch it.

What’s The Plot Of The Yogurt Shop Murders & Where Can You Stream It?

The Making of HBO Doc ‘The Yogurt Shop Murders’ Was So Traumatic That A24 Paid for Film Team’s Therapy
Image
The brutal rape and murder of four teenage girls at an Austin, Texas frozen yogurt shop is the subject of Margaret Brown’s HBO docuseries “The Yogurt Shop Murders.”

The 1991 slayings of Amy Ayers, sisters Jennifer Harbison and Sarah Harbison, and Eliza Thomas mystified police, haunted the victim’s families, and eventually became “part of the fabric of Austin,” according to Brown.

“It’s something you can’t really get away from in Austin,” said Brown.

Although Brown (“Descendant”) knew about the crime, the idea for a four-part docuseries came from Emma Stone and her husband Dave McCary, who used to live in Austin. The couple brought the docuseries to A24 to produce.

Brown spent over three years interviewing the crime’s investigative teams and the victims’ parents and siblings. The director and her producing team also tracked down interrogation room footage of four teenaged boys who served time for the crime.

Karlovy Vary Film Festival Critic’s Take: Czech Cinema Triumphs and Stellan Skarsgård Makes a Splash
Image
Having a front row seat to all the goings on at the 59th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival this week meant seeing some invigorating new films that, much like Cannes did just a couple months back, confronted the frequently dark and painful parts of our world in an attempt to find whatever small slivers of humanity they could. The films couldn’t always hold onto this feeling and the searching could often be more than a little fraught, though the festival’s brightest spots came from the ones that tried to do so all the same.

In particular, the best two films in the main competition were the Czech films “Broken Voices” and “Better Go Mad in the Wild,” the latter of which rightfully took home the top prize Saturday evening while the former received a special jury mention for the exciting newcomer Kateřina Falbrová. Though their recognition opened up...

‘April’ Director Dea Kulumbegashvili Says Her Acclaimed Drama Came Out of ‘A Lot of Anger’
Image
Though there are some quite interesting works to be found at the 59th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, the best film to show there is Dea Kulumbegashvili’s astounding “April.” The second feature from the Georgian director who made the similarly captivating “Beginning” in 2020, the film is one of the most exciting and enrapturing works of cinema in recent memory. It then makes perfect sense that the festival would want Kulumbegashvili to lead an exclusive masterclass for aspiring young filmmakers looking to make their mark.

Following Nina (Ia Sukhitashvili) who works as an Ob-gyn and performs abortions in her own time to those who desperately need them, “April” defies categorization. It approaches the material with an emphasis on more sensory and less conventional storytelling even as it grapples with real issues. After winning the Special Jury Prize at last year’s Venice International Film Festival, the film received a limited U.

Fremantle’s Q1 Revenue Drops 5.6% Due To “Budget Cuts” At Networks & Streamers
Image
Fremantle’s first quarter revenue fell 5.6% as the Got Talent maker’s parent Rtl blamed “budget cuts at broadcasters and streamers.”

Sales were down to €373M ($418M) in the three months to March this year. The figure for the same period in 2024 was €395M.

The falls were partially offset by the acquisition of France-based Asacha Media Group, which added the likes of Death in Paradise producer Red Planet, Arrow Media and Italy’s Stand By Me into the Fremantle fold.

Fremantle will be expecting a stronger Q2, when it launches the 20th season of America’s Got Talent on NBC, the 18th season of Britain’s Got Talent on ITV and the 14th season of Italia’s Got Talent on Disney+, the 15th season of Death in Paradise from Red Planet Pictures on the BBC as well as the films Pillion and My Father’s Shadow from Element Pictures.

Rtl said that despite the revenue drop,...

Emma Stone, the Oscar-winning actress beloved by Hollywood, has evolved into a force to be reckoned with in the movie industry. Alongside her husband, writer and former Saturday Night Live star Dave McCary, the La La Land alum is making waves as both an actress and a savvy movie mogul.

However, RadarOnline revealed that despite their impressive strides in Hollywood, Emma is deeply concerned that the weight of their shared professional success may be putting their four-year marriage to the test.

‘April’ Trailer: Dea Kulumbegashvili’s Georgian Drama Is One of the Year’s Most Haunting Films
Image
T.S. Eliot said April was the cruelest month, but that’s hardly the case for this April 2025, when Dea Kulumbegashvili’s shattering new drama “April” finally opens.

Ok, to be fair, “April” is a cruel film, set in a remote Georgian village, where a revered obstetrician is accused of malpractice and ostracized by her townspeople after a baby dies on the delivery table. Meanwhile, she provides illegal abortions for the village’s broken, young, and helpless women. IndieWire shares the exclusive trailer below for the film, which won a Venice Film Festival 2024 special prize from a jury headed up by none other than Isabelle Huppert. Rising distributor Metrograph Pictures, which also operates a brick-and-mortar theater in Lower Manhattan, opens the film in select cities on April 25.

“April” reunites Kulumbegasvhili with actress Ia Sukhitashvili, who starred in the director’s 2020 breakout “Beginning,” about religious extremism and abuse, also set in a Georgian village.

During his acceptance speech for best screenplay at the 2025 Film Independent Spirit Awards, A Real Pain writer and director Jesse Eisenberg called Emma Stone, a producer on the film, his “fairy godmother.”

“I met Emma when we were in Zombieland together 2009 and since then — I write little magazine articles and little things on McSweeney’s, and she’s the only person, I’m including my mom here, who would take little screenshots of it over the last 15 years and send me things like, ‘This is such a funny line!'” Eisenberg said onstage, while Stone was in the audience. “She was, definitely still [is], the most famous person I know, and yet also the most dedicated to encouraging me as a writer. I think about her not as my producer, but like a fairy godmother, that I am riding the coattails of her goodwill. And I think it’s so important that somebody like her,...

Every Best Actress Oscar Winner’s Acceptance Speech: A Complete List of Winners From the Last 20 Years
Image
They say that words can either break or make you. But when it’s at the Oscars, it’s worth its weight in gold (and maybe even a little tear or two)! Oscar acceptance speeches of Best Actresses are the stuff of legend—sometimes heartfelt, sometimes hilarious, and occasionally so awkward that you could cut the tension with a butter knife. But no matter the emotion, we can’t deny that they’re never boring.

These actresses, the ones who’ve mastered the art of playing other people, get a chance to be themselves—and boy, do they make it count. Whether they’re wiping away mascara-streaked tears, flubbing a thank you, or delivering an epic mic-drop moment, it’s clear that their words are more than just filler; they’re a piece of cinema history.

Emma Stone Produced 5 Great Movies & Shows in 2024
Image
Actress Emma Stone has been a staple in Hollywood for many years, after skyrocketing to fame with comedies like Superbad (2007) and Easy A (2010). She continued to make a name for herself in the industry with dozens of other roles and won two Academy Awards for Best Actress, for La La Land in 2017 and Poor Things in 2024. However, she's more than just a movie star — she's dominating the field behind the camera as well.

In 2020, Emma Stone and her husband, Dave McCary — a segment writer and director for Saturday Night Live, whom she met while hosting the show in 2016 — founded a production company called Fruit Tree. They also brought producer Ali Herting onto the team and landed a two-year first-look television deal with A24. Since its inception, Fruit Tree has produced several TV and film projects, nearly all of which have received rave reviews, and some of the best were released...

Emma Stone’s Height & Shoe Size: How She Styles Her 5’6” Frame With Luxe Heels
Image
Emma Stone, standing 5 feet 6 inches (167.6 cm), is slightly taller than the average American woman but still shorter than her 6′2″ (1.88 m) husband, David McCary. While she now confidently rocks designer heels on the red carpet, her relationship with footwear wasn’t always so effortless.

Reflecting on an early fashion misstep, she once recalled, “On the first day of middle school, I wore high-heeled shoes that you weren’t allowed to wear. I remember being so embarrassed because in every class I went to they kept pointing out that I couldn’t wear these shoes. I wanted to call my mom and have her bring me new shoes!”

Kyle Mooney's SNL Audition Boldly Used Lorne Michaels For A Punchline
Image
Every now and then "Saturday Night Live" really surprises me with its castings. Giving Sarah Sherman (better known to the alt-comedy community as Sarah Squirm) a spot on the roster was one example, while Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett's 2013 casting remains one of the best decisions Lorne Michaels ever made.

Back in 2007, the duo launched the comedy group Good Neighbor, along with Nick Rutherford and Dave McCary, and created some of the greatest sketches ever to hit the internet for their "GoodNeighborStuff" YouTube channel. Mooney in particular embodied a sort of subversive alt-comedy brilliance that wasn't all that removed from the offbeat rebelliousness at the heart of another early 2000s comedic touchstone: "Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job" — also launched in 2007. Indeed, both Mooney and "Awesome Show" star Tim Heidecker later performed as leather jacket-wearing hack comedian characters, with Mooney's Bruce Chandling eventually appearing for multiple segments on...
