Why Prime Video Canceled On Call
Image
Dick Wolf may be one of the most prolific creators of popular television in history, but his latest series is going to go down as a one-and-done. "On Call," an inventive cop show that premiered earlier this year on Amazon Prime Video, was canceled after just one season. The adventures of Traci Harmon and Alex Diaz are, in all likelihood, over -- at least for now.

The series follows a rookie officer named Alex Diaz (Brandon Larracuente) who is paired with a seasoned veteran named Traci Harmon (Troian Bellisario), focusing on the duo as they patrol Long Beach, California. Part of what made the show unique is that it was shot with a mixture of hand-held cameras, bodycam, and dash-cam footage, which gave it a very unique look. In the early going, "On Call" was a hit, topping the Prime Video charts shortly after its debut.

Unfortunately, the ratings apparently...

Eriq La Salle on developing ‘On Call’s’ ‘imperfect’ hybrid style and returning to acting
Image
Since his time on ER, Eriq La Salle has focused on directing for most of the past two decades, becoming a staple in the Dick Wolf universe. He's worked on Law & Order: Svu, Law & Order, Law & Order: Organized Crime, Chicago P.D. (including serving as an executive producer for five years), Chicago Med, and FBI. So it was no surprise when he got the call for the prolific producer's new drama On Call.

"They just called up and said, 'Hey, we've got this cool pilot, we'd love you to do it,'" La Salle tells Gold Derby. "I took a look at it and read it in, I don't know, like, 29 minutes, and said 'yes' in 30 minutes. It was just pretty much a no-brainer."

Signing on in 30 minutes is apt since On Call is Wolf's first half-hour series. The Prime Video police drama follows veteran officer Traci Harmon (Troian Bellisario...

Troian Bellisario talks playing a police officer in ‘On Call’, reflects on ‘Pretty Little Liars’ 15th anniversary
Image
In On Call, Troian Bellisario plays Tracy Harmon, a veteran field training officer in the Long Beach Police Department, navigating the mental and physical toll of her job while mentoring rookie officer Alex Diaz (Brandon Larracuente). The role marks a striking shift from her Pretty Little Liars days, and Bellisario admits she was surprised when first approached to play a police officer.

“Tracy Harmon, veteran police officer, 40 years old. I thought, ‘Oh my god, I’m never going to get this,’” she admits. “I’ve never played anyone older than me, and certainly never a cop.” But something in the script clicked. “The minute I started reading her words, I was enthralled. I’d never seen a cop show like this.”

Unlike traditional procedurals, Prime Video's On Call leans heavily into body cam footage and a half-hour drama format, a fusion Bellisario calls “thrilling” and “raw.” The real-time style gives the show a documentary edge,...

Many Dick Wolf shows have been renewed (but not On Call season 2)
Image
Dick Wolf is a very busy man, and has found so much success creating two well-known and franchises at NBC - Law and Order and One Chicago. The creator has got the procedural formula down, so many had high hopes for his new one on Prime Video. Unfortunately, On Call season 2 is not happening as Prime Video has cancelled the show, and the series has become a short-lived one. On the platform at least.

The Troian Bellisario-led serial drama first premiered Jan. 9, 2025 with eight episodes on the streaming service. So Prime Video waited about four months to announce the fate of the show. That's actually not too bad, as other projects have to wait longer sometimes. Upon its release, On Call, created by Tim Walsh and Elliot Wolf, got mixed reviews from critics but did well with the audience overall.

Many viewers may have come into it not having watched other Dick Wolf shows.

Prime Video's Crime Series With 92% Rt Audience Score Cancelled, But Season 2 May Get Picked Up By New Platform
Image
Prime Video has managed to build out several massive hits for itself. Reacher is one of the most successful series in all streaming. Superhero subversions like The Boysand Invincible are closely watched, while the dystopian video game Fallout became a quick favorite among audiences, gaining awards buzz and accumulating billions of minutes streamed for its first installment.

There is an argument to be made that the streamer, which gains a massive subscriber boost due to its direct connection with Amazon's delivery service, struggles outside certain avenues. The streamer is home to big action thrillers that would fit well on the big screen. Along with Reacher, Prime Video has The Terminal List, Alex Cross, and the Jack Ryan franchise. But with The Summer I Turned Pretty ending later this year, it resurfaces the idea that the platform has struggled to make much of its smaller originals and more scaled-down stories. The latest news reaffirms the argument.

Police Series 'On Call' from Dick Wolf Canceled After One Season
Image
Cancelations seem to be the name of the game right now, as hot on the heels of CBS’ decimation of its crime series slate, and NBC’s huge ax swing, Amazon is now in a chopping mood and has decided not to give a renewal to the half-hour action crime drama On Call. This means the series joins a long list of one-season wonders, despite coming from Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment and having a great reaction from audiences.

The decision not to pick up On Call for a second season came as a surprise to many, especially considering that, despite getting a mixed reaction from critics, the series scored an impressive 92% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it seems that this may not be end for the show, as Deadline reported that the team behind the show are already looking for a new home, with Peacock being among a handful of streamers being courted.

‘On Call’ Canceled: Will It Be Saved? What Would Have Happened in Season 2?
Image
Dick Wolf knows how to make good TV. He’s more than proved that with three hit franchises dominating the primetime across broadcast networks. He added a half-hour police drama (on streaming!) to that in 2025. However, On Call will not be returning for a second season, it was revealed on Friday, May 9. The Prime Video series, which dropped its first season all at once, features a different way of looking at the genre: through a mixture of bodycam, dash-camera, and cellphone footage. Read on for everything we know about its future, including what we could have seen in a second season. Has On Call been renewed? Sadly, no. The series has been canceled, according to Deadline. Ahead of the series’ launch, executive producer Tim Walsh had told TV Insider, “We’re hopeful that we’re going to get a Season 2.” Could On Call be saved? ...

Prime Video Pulls the Plug on Dick Wolf's New Cop Drama With 92% Audience Score
Image
Fans of On Call on Prime Video have gotten some bad news. It has been revealed that the show will not be returning with new episodes on the streaming platform, but not all hope is lost for fans of the series just yet.

Per Deadline, On Call will not be moving forward with a second season on Prime Video. The news may come as a surprise to fans, as the series was a hit with viewership, reaching No. 1 on Prime Video's streaming chart in the U.S. after simultaneously dropping all eight episodes of its freshman season in January. It was also largely enjoyed by viewers, earning a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, despite its mixed critics' rating of 53%.

Fans shouldn't give up hope just yet on On Call. Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television are reportedly shopping the series to other platforms, and given its popularity, there's a good chance...

‘On Call’ Done On Prime Video After Renewal Talks Fall Through; Drama Being Shopped To Other Buyers
Image
Exclusive: Amazon is not proceeding with a second season of half-hour action police drama On Call, from Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television, sources tell Deadline. The series, starring Troian Bellisario and Brandon Larracuente, has been shopped to other platforms, and two of them have engaged in discussions about a potential second season, I hear.

This is a somewhat surprising development as On Call, created by Tim Walsh and Elliot Wolf, has done well, reaching the #1 slot on Prime Video in the U.S. following the January 9 drop of all eight episodes and earning 92% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. (The series received mixed reactions from critics.)

Indeed, Amazon a few weeks ago approached the producers of the show about a two-season renewal, sources said. It was looking good until the offer was accompanied by a request to reduce the premium on the series, I hear. Under the widely used current cost-plus streaming compensation model,...

This New Police Drama Has Been Dominating Prime Video's Top 10 for Nearly 2 Months (& You Should Really Watch It)

This article contains spoilers for On Call season 1.

On Call stars Troian Bellisario and Brandon Larracuente break down where Harmon and Diaz stand after the events of season 1. A police drama executive produced by Law & Order creator Dick Wolf, On Call premiered on Prime Video in early January. The story centers on the rookie Alex Diaz (Larracuente) and the veteran officer Traci Harmon (Bellisario) as they patrol Long Beach, California. The eight episodes use bodycam, dash camera, and cellphone footage to visualize the experience, with Lori Loughlin, Rich Ting, and Eriq Lasalle also part of the On Call cast.

Pretty Little Liars Star's New Cop Drama From Dick Wolf Is a Streaming Hit
Image
Eight years after wrapping up her run as Spencer Hastings on Pretty Little Liars, Troian Bellisario has finally added another television hit to her filmography. On Call, the latest cop show from Dick Wolf, has become a major streaming success on Prime Video.

According to FlixPatrol, On Call has been No. 1 on TV for Prime Video since Jan. 13, with the procedural drama series being responsible for knocking the reality competition series Beast Games from YouTuber Mr. Beast out of the top spot. The show's ratings success comes amid mixed reviews from critics, with review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes noting that On Call has a 54 percent approval rating. Originally set up at IMDb TV (later Freevee), On Call moved over to Prime Video, with all eight episodes dropping onto the streamer on Jan. 9. Cop Crime Thriller Show With 90% Audience Score Becomes Streaming Hit
Image
Shows about police officers have been around for decades. The conflict and dangerous situations that come with the profession are evidently fertile ground for on-screen drama. Since 2000, a number of cop shows have come and gone, some of which put unique spins on the classic procedural formula. Justified takes the police thriller and mixes it with the Western, Fargo adds comedy, and Hannibal adds horror.

Sometimes, though, audiences are just looking for a more typical show about cops. Recent shows like We Own This City and Mare of Easttown delivered on this front, as has True Detective, The Shield, S.W.A.T., and The Rookie. There's one cop thriller show, however, that has just recently released on Prime Video, and it's quickly established itself as a win with audiences for its grounded storytelling and compelling character drama.

Mare of Easttown season 2 is not yet confirmed, but it has been reported to be a possibility.

On Call Season 2: Will It Happen? Everything We Know
Image
Dick Wolf has brought his signature brand of police procedural to Amazon Prime Video in On Call, but will the gritty cop show score a second season? Created for the small screen by Tim Walsh and Elliot Wolf, the half-hour police drama follows veteran Long Beach Pd training officer Traci Harmon (Troian Bellisario) and her new rookie partner, Officer Alex Diaz (Brandon Larracuente), as they try to perform their duty in the wake of a tragedy on the force. Being a streaming-exclusive, On Call is a bit more brash than other Dick Wolf projects, but is nevertheless just as accessible.

Originally meant to be an exclusive program on the ill-fated IMBb TV streamer, the series eventually made its way to Prime Video where it premiered in the early days of 2025. Though reviews have been somewhat middling for the new cop show, On Call has proven its advantage over network TV...

On Call's Elliot Wolf & Tim Walsh Are "Kicking Ideas Around" For Dick Wolf Universe Crossovers
Image
Elliot Wolf and Tim Walsh have teamed up for On Call. Wolf finds himself with the full reins on a live-action program for the first time in his career, as his prior work was exclusively in the serialized podcast world. Producing televised crime dramas is in Wolf's DNA, as his father, Television Academy Hall of Famer Dick Wolf, is responsible for fronting the likes of Law & Order and the various Chicago shows. Walsh worked with Wolf's father on Chicago P.D., having produced 69 episodes of the series from 2014 until 2017.

On Call embodies the spirit of the Dick Wolf projects of yesteryear but makes a grand effort to carve out its own niche. The Prime Video series follows Officer Harmon (Troian Bellisario), a jaded veteran cop paired with rookie policeman Officer Diaz (Brandon Larracuente) to patrol the streets of Long Beach, California.

'On Call': Dick Wolf Police Procedural Tops Prime Video Streaming Chart
Image
Law & Order creator Dick Wolf's new police procedural, On Call, recently debuted on Prime Video and is already dominating the streamer's Top 10 list. The show is currently sitting at number one, was co-created by Tim Walsh (Chicago P.D.) and Elliot Wolf (Law & Order: Criminal Justice System), and is the first straight-to-streaming project for the legendary producer.

On Call follows seasoned Officer Traci Harmon and rookie Officer Alex Diaz as they field calls in Long Beach, California. The production of the show is gritty and realistic, relying on handheld cameras along with body cam footage. It often feels like it's a documentary series rather than a dramatic police procedural.

Rounding out the cast is Lori Loughlin (Full House) as Lieutenant Bishop, Rich Ting (Squid Game) as Sergeant Tyson Koyama, and the always great Eriq La Salle (ER) as Sergeant Lasman. La Salle has been a producer at Wolf Entertainment for several years,...

On Call Review: Prime Video Series Is What TV Needs Right Now
Image
The following contains major spoilers for On Call Season 1, now streaming on Prime Video. It also contains discussion of drug use and violence.

Prime Video and Wolf Entertainment have outdone themselves with On Call, which is the perfect police drama for a modern audience. At a time when every TV crime show is scrutinized and met with cynicism, this one works no matter what someone's point of view. It's the anti-procedural that also preserves what fans love about procedurals, from the people who know the genre better than anyone.

On Call centers on a pair of police officers, veteran Traci Harmon and rookie Alex Diaz, as they patrol the streets of Long Beach. Creators Tim Walsh and Elliot Wolf weave in some ongoing plot threads regarding the murder of another officer and Traci's past, but the most important part of the show is the day-to-day that the characters face.

Monica Raymund's new TV role is going to devastate Chicago Fire fans
Image
Monica Raymund will always hold a special place in the hearts of Chicago Fire fans. She played Gabriela Dawson for several seasons, and her romance with Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer), while complicated, was one of the defining relationships on the show.

Raymund left Chicago Fire in season 6, then again in season 8 after a brief cameo. It was sad to see her go, but it has also been exciting to see her venture out and attempt different roles on the small screen. One Chicago fans perked up when they saw Raymund was cast in the new Prime show On Call. A Dick Wolf production, On Call seemed like a perfect use of the actor's skill set.

On Call Review: Gritty Aesthetics and Formulaic Narratives
Image
The newest movie from Wolf Entertainment, “On Call,” takes us into the rough world of the Long Beach Police Department. This series is marketed as a “next-generation procedural” and was created by Elliot Wolf and Tim Walsh, with Dick Wolf serving as executive producer. What does that mean, though?

“On Call” uses a half-hour episodic structure, a nod to traditional television, to capture the fast-paced nature of modern policing. The shocking murder of Officer Maria Delgado at the beginning is meant to make people feel sorry for the killer and build tension. But the series has trouble making sense of itself; it jumps around awkwardly between episodic adventures and a main plot that feels more like a patchwork than a weave.

The characters, like Harmony, the stern officer, and Diaz, the wide-eyed rookie, are straight out of a screenwriting handbook. Although this dynamic is well-known, it doesn’t have the...

Warning: Spoilers lie ahead for On Call!

Raymund, known for her role as Gabby Dawson in the One Chicago universe, made a brief but memorable cameo as Officer Delgado in the series debut. 'Stay Away From Anything They've Done': On Call Producers Talk Amazon Show
Image
Prime Video's police drama On Call is something different, and not just because of its unique visual style. The series offers up a perspective that isn't found in other scripted procedurals, as well as a cast that sets a different tone than similar shows. It's almost hard to believe that the series hails from Wolf Entertainment, which is the most recognizable procedural brand in television -- including the Law & Order, One Chicago and FBI franchises.

In an interview with Cbr, On Call co-creators and executive producers Eliot Wolf and Tim Walsh talked about moving Wolf Entertainment into the streaming world for the first time. They also spoke about the expectations created by that brand name, and how they factored those in when developing the series. And with the first season now in the hands of audiences, what did they love most about the show?

Cbr: Eliot, you've been developing...

"Just a Bit Sleight of Hand": 'On Call's EP Explains That 'Chicago Fire' Cameo

Monica Raymund played Gabriela Dawson for six seasons of NBC's viewership magnet Chicago Fire. The actress left the show to pursue other opportunities, starring in Hightown on Starz for three seasons before the show ended abruptly. In her next TV project, Raymund appeared on the Dick Wolf-produced streaming procedural On Call. She plays a patrol officer, Officer Delgado, who meets an untimely death, and her death sets the tone for the show as one of the main characters grapples with this sudden loss. For Raymund and Gabriela fans, the actor's screen time on the Prime Video series was not enough, and executive producer Tim Walsh admitted to TV Insider that it was “just a bit of sleight of hand.” Walsh revealed the inspiration behind the short cameo, saying,...

Prime Video's New Police Thriller Series From Dick Wolf Debuts With Middling Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Big-shot producer Dick Wolf is the mastermind behind the Law and Order franchise. He created this crime series back in 1990, and it has subsequently become one of the most successful procedurals of all time. Now, there are multiple Law & Order series running, including the mothership series, which was revived in 2022, Law & Order: Svu, and Law & Order: Organized Crime. The series has also had multiple spinoffs that have since concluded, including Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order: Trial by Jury, and Law & Order: LA.

Though his name is most synonymous with the Law & Order IP, Wolf has also been involved in other major television shows. This has included the One Chicago series, as well as FBI and its spinoffs FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International. These massive franchise shows have been coupled with standalone series like Murder for Hire. Wolf's impressive list of credits shows just how...

‘On Call’ Showrunners Compare Prime Video Police Drama to ‘Adam 12’ – ‘On Meth’
Image
“On Call” producers Tim Walsh and Elliot Wolf describe the new police series, which premiered all of Season 1 Thursday on Prime Video, as “‘Adam 12’ on meth.'”

The latest project from Wolf Entertainment harkens back to the classic 1960s series about a pair of patrolmen not only in subject matter, but in length: Unlike most contemporary dramas, it’s only 30 minutes.

“Attention has never been more valuable of a commodity in this day and age and the half-hour format was really enticing for us. Looking at the 1950s and 1960 primetime schedule, they’re all half-hour procedural dramas. Those don’t really exist today,” Wolf, who is the son of “Law & Order” mega-producer Dick Wolf, told TheWrap.

‘On Call’ Co-Creator Elliot Wolf on Whether the Show Is Connected to the One Chicago Universe and Dad Dick Wolf’s Advice: ‘Don’t F— It Up’
Image
“On Call,” the upcoming Wolf Entertainment drama, isn’t like the other Dick Wolf dramas on television.

The series is the company’s first scripted streaming series, rolling out all nine episodes on Amazon Prime Video on Jan. 9. It’s the first half-hour drama Wolf Entertainment has released — and the first show Elliot Wolf and Tim Walsh created.

“I think that for us, the biggest thing was we both had something to prove. We had, I think, a self-imposed chip on our shoulders, not only to make it great, but to make it feel different than everything that we previously worked on, everything that we see on the television landscape today,” Wolf tells Variety.

Elliot Wolf, the son of creator Dick Wolf, has served for years as the head of digital at Wolf Entertainment, overseeing online content and scripted podcasts. The original idea for “On Call” was a short-form series...

With ‘On Call’ Dick Wolf’s TV Empire Has Finally Found a New Trick
Image
It takes less than three minutes for the latest drama to bear Dick Wolf’s name to drop an F-bomb, adopt the dashcam, and violently kill off a familiar face at point blank range. For a man renowned for his ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it approach’ to network television, it’s akin to Dylan going electric.

Initially planned for IMDb TV and then Freevee before finding a home on Prime Video, “On Call” is also Wolf’s first straight-to-streaming project (“Law & Order: Organized Crime” only moved to Peacock in its fifth season), while each episode is done and dusted within a binge-friendly 30 minutes.

Unlike his other ten and counting procedurals still on the air, Wolf’s role is limited strictly to executive producer. Though having handed over the creative reins to son Elliot (and Tim Walsh), it’s still very much under the Wolf Entertainment...
