Over 40 years after its release, "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" remains one of the funniest stoner comedies ever made. Helmed by first-time director Amy Heckering (over a decade before she would direct "Clueless") from a screenplay by then-newcomer Cameron Crowe (before his work on "Almost Famous" and "Jerry Maguire"), the 1982 film followed a group of slacker kids as they navigate the socially volatile waters of sophomore year at Ridgemont High School.

Since making his feature directing debut with “Hard Eight” (1996), Paul Thomas Anderson has proven his versatility and unique artistry with eight subsequent films, all of which he also wrote. Monterey plans an early spring release on the film, which premiered at last September’s Toronto International Film Festival and becomes the 14th Toronto selection that monterey has acquired in nine years.

Exclusive: Debut feature from Hope Dickson Leach stars Game Of Thrones’ Ellie Kendrick.

Peccadillo Pictures has picked up UK and Ireland distribution rights to Hope Dickson Leach’s The Levelling ahead of its premiere at Toronto International Film Festival this evening (Sept 9).

Playing in Toronto’s Discovery strand, the film stars starring Ellie Kendrick (Game Of Thrones), David Troughton (ChickLit), Jack Holden and newcomer Joe Blakemore.

Rachel Robey of Wellington Films produced the feature, which had financing from Creative England, the BFI, BBC Films and Olgarth Media. It was developed through Creative England’s iFeatures scheme for low-budget projects.

The deal was negotiated between Robey and Tom Abell, MD of Peccadillo Pictures. The distributor is plotting a release in early 2017.

Mongrel International is handling international sales.
