Video Game Studio Lightspeed L.A. Signs Interim Agreement With SAG-AFTRA to Stay in Production
Image
Updated with additional interim agreements

Video game company Lightspeed L.A. has signed a SAG-AFTRA interim Interactive Media Agreement that allows it to continue production with union performers even as the strike against other major video game publishers winds into its sixth week.

The deal will apply to current and future Lightspeed L.A. games. The company is home to the game “Last Sentinel,” which is the studio’s first title to move forward under the new agreement. SAG-AFTRA is on strike against Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts, Warner Bros. Games and other major publishers. The union is asking for tougher curbs on the use of AI to create digital replicas of performers and their voice or likeness, as well as higher minimums to address the impact of inflation in recent years.

Updated: On Sept. 5, SAG-AFTRA unveiled another 80 game titles that have signed interim deals to allow production work to continue.

SAG-AFTRA Says 80 Video Games Signed to Deals During Strike Against Major Studios
Image
As SAG-AFTRA’s video game strike continues, the union stated on Thursday that 80 games were signed to agreements with the labor group that will allow them to continue work with union performers during the labor dispute.

By signing on to either SAG-AFTRA’s interim agreement or tiered-budget agreement, developers on these titles can employ SAG-AFTRA performers while actors are abstaining from struck companies. Though the union did not specify the games that are working under these agreements, in statements some companies identified as signatories.

“Little Bat Games is proud to work with SAG-AFTRA in ensuring that top-tier voice talent is appropriately compensated and protected,” the two-year-old studio said in a statement. “As a small studio working on a game about psychology, we always advocate protecting human interests and appreciate SAG-AFTRA’s help to keep the industry accountable.”

Added Studio Wildcard development director Jeremy Stieglitz, “Studio Wildcard partners with production company...

Ark: Survival Ascended Players Should Pay Attention To September 4 (& Not For Aberration)
Image
Ark: Ascended's Aberration Dlc drops September 4 with new creatures and survival features on a unique map, but more exciting changes might be coming soon. Unreal Engine 5.4 and Fsr 3.1 upgrades might be released on the same day, and could enhance performance for Asa. Consoles may get expanded mod storage for Ark soon, allowing players to download more mods.

There's more than one massive change coming to Ark: Survival Evolved this September. Most players are already familiar with the upcoming Aberration Dlc for Asa, which features a variety of new creatures and survival features on a ruined, irradiated map. Like most maps released for Asa, Aberration was originally released for Ark: Survival Evolved as a free Dlc, but is finally coming back to the remaster on September 4. It's one of the biggest and most unique maps available, so the excitement for it is understandable.

However, all the Aberration hype might have overshadowed...

Ark 2's Future Is Looking More Bleak Than Ever Despite All The New Content
Image
Ark 2's development is plagued by delays and a lack of updates, with Ark: Survival Ascended seemingly taking precedence. Studio Wildcard and parent company Snail Games have a complex financial history that may complicatae Ark 2's future. Delays are not unusual for Studio Wildcard, but Ark 2's shifting status takes things to a new level.

Ark: Survival Ascended's continued development is giving Ark players a lot to care about, but when it comes to its successor Ark 2, it's a lot harder to be optimistic. Announced in 2020, Ark 2 is intended to be a major sequel to the classic Ark experience. In the years since its announcement, however, most updates on the game's status are simply its release date getting pushed farther and farther away, and a large portion of the community has essentially shelved any hopes for the game to release soon.

In the meantime, Ark: Survival Ascended was announced in...

Paramount Surprise Releases Star-Filled ‘Ark: The Animated Series’!
Image
We’re back in December 2020, and Paramount announces a new dinosaur-themed animated series titled Ark: The Animated Series. The series was announced via a trailer during the 2020 Video Game Awards, also revealing that the series would be featuring a star-filled cast that would include Gerard Butler, David Tennant, Michelle Yeoh, Jeffrey Wright, Zahn McClarnon, Elliot Page, Karl Urban, Malcolm McDowell, Alan Tudyk, Russell Crowe, and Vin Diesel, all of whom will also serve as the executive producers of the series.

The series was based on the Ark: Survival Evolved video game, with the game’s creators Jeremy Stieglitz and Jesse Rapczak serving as the creators of the series as well. In June 2022, as the series entered post-production, it was revealed that both Monica Bellucci and Dee Bradley Baker had joined the series as well, with Gareth Coker as the composer. And that was more or less it for a while.

Image
Paramount+ has unveiled the first six episodes of Ark: The Animated Series, which are now streaming on the service as of today. But the first season won’t be limited to just this batch, as a second part to the season will host seven more episodes, although the release date for those has yet to be announced.

While I haven’t played the source video game (Ark: Survival Evolved), the voice cast for Ark: The Animated Series definitely piques interest, as it hosts Oscar winners, fan favorites and even Doctors…The partial cast list includes Madeleine Madden, Michelle Yeoh, Russell Crowe, Gerard Butler, Jeffrey Wright, David Tennant, Elliot Page, Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, and more.

While that is a seriously impressive cast, perhaps the biggest draw for some is that Ark will be scored by the game’s composer Gareth Coker, who also provided the gorgeous music for Ori and...

Ark: Survival Ascended servers “run like ass” studio says
ARK: Survival Evolved (2018)
In an unusually candid moment, Studio Wildcard’s co-founder has said that the servers underpinning Ark: Survival Ascended “run like ass.”

Revised survival game Ark: Survival Ascended has been greeted with mixed reviews since it launched into Early Access in late October, and even its developer, Studio Wildcard, seems open that there’s room for improvement.

As reported by Eurogamer, studio co-founder Jeremy Stieglitz has admitted that the game’s servers – in terms of their stability and speed – are “ass.”

“The servers are ass,” Stieglitz said during the Extra Life Charity Stream on Twitch. “They run like ass, and their stability is ass.”

First announced in April, Ark: Survival Ascended is a current-gen reworking of Studio Wildcard’s own hit, Ark: Survival Evolved. Shifting platforms to Unreal Engine 5, Survival Ascended was delayed several times – apparently due to the challenges of working with Epic’s new engine – and also sparked a bit of pre-release controversy.

Ark: The Animated Series was first revealed to be in the works in late 2020, having shown a trailer during the Video Game Awards, but outside of its star-studded cast, not much was known about the series until now.

Just in time for the holidays, the official Ark: The Animated Series trailer has premiered, giving a deeper look at Netflix's upcoming video game adaptation. The video reveals that the story will center on Helena Walker,...
