Filmmaker Connor Rickman, who had plenty of short films under his belt, had trouble funding a feature.
Instead of waiting around, he gathered 15,000 to self-fund The Whole Lot, a surprisingly rich drama featuring three characters, a barn, and a lot of classic cars.
As you begin watching The Whole Lot, you'll get a sense of the film's direction that soon begins to falter as Rickman upends any expectations you had for something much deeper.
With a screenplay written by Matthew Ivan Bennett, Rickman takes three characters on a thrilling journey after two of them suffer the loss of their father.
Sarah McLoney stars as Della, who, after the loss of their father, asks her estranged brother, Jamie (Aaron Kramer), to meet at their father's property so that she can execute her father's wishes.
Jamie avoided Della and their father's family and friends in the wake of their father's death. For ten days,...

Lonely slacker Jonathan is stuck working night shifts at a convenience store. When he goes on a blind date with a strange woman, his world suddenly begins to unravel in horrifying fashion. Plagued by paranoia, illness and nightmarish visions, he desperately searches the suburbs for the mysterious seductress. His friends and family believe he’s losing his mind, but he believes he’s the target of a sinister occult plot.
The Black String comes from director Brian Hanson, who also co-wrote the film with Richard Handley – who also stars in the film as Dr. Ronaldi. For both this is their first feature, with Handley having penned some shorts previously. However in the case of Hanson is his first film period.

"This is worse than poison." Lionsgate has debuted an official trailer for an indie paranoia horror-thriller titled The Black String, which first premiered at the Austin Film Festival last year and is finally getting a direct-to-dvd/VOD release this fall. This stars Frankie Muniz (remember him?) as a twenty-something drifter whose life is turned upside down after an "unexpected encounter with a mysterious woman." He's soon overcome by illness and nightmarish visions. His friends believe he is losing his mind, but Jonathan is convinced he's the target of something far more sinister. The cast includes Chelsea Edmundson, Blake Webb, Jackie Moore, Alexander Ward, Ravi Patel, Cullen Douglas, and Angie DeGrazia. This looks a bit like It Follows, but twisted into a nightmarish, infection horror thriller. Maybe it's freakish fun? Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Brian Hanson's The Black String, direct from YouTube (via Bd): Jonathan (Frankie Muniz) is a lonely twenty-something,...

The year is 2045, the continuing drug war has caused havoc between The United States and Mexico. Gear Side International, a robotics engineering company on the brink of bankruptcy, sells off their technology to the Cartel on the black market. With the advanced military robotics technology in the wrong hands the cartel uses it to their advantage; replacing their enforcers, hit men, and soldiers.
From director Chris Le, and starring screen sensation Danny Trejo (Machete, The Devil’s Rejects) with Alexander P. Heartman ("Power Rangers Samurai"), Brad Schmidt (“House of Lies”), and Blake Webb (“Colony”), Cartel 2045 pairs grindhouse and sci-fi in a unique grounded way. This looks pretty damn fun actually!

"If we ever did stand a chance, we sure don't anymore." Gravitas Ventures has released a new trailer for the sci-fi indie thriller Alienate, about an alien invasion. From director Michael Shumway, a composer turned filmmaker, the story follows a man named David who leaves on a business trip to give his wife much-needed space, when the invasion lands. He fights to return home to find whatever is left. The cast includes Blake Webb, Tatum Langton, Jaclyn Hales, and Keith Hottinger. One review from IMDb says the film less about aliens and more about a "down to earth issue which is 'alienation' in erotic relationships." The footage doesn't do much to make me interested, as it seems fairly forgettable, but I can't help be curious about sci-fi. Here's the official trailer (+ two posters) for Michael Shumway's Alienate, direct from YouTube: At the end of his marriage, David (Blake Webb...
