Life Day may be behind us now, but for those curious about — or fans of — The Star Wars Holiday Special, the party is still ongoing with the release of A Disturbance in the Force right around the corner. The documentary had its premiere at SXSW 2023, and screened in select US, UK, and Australian cities, and will finally be available on Digital on December 5. To celebrate the release, Collider is excited to exclusively share a clip from the film, featuring Jason Lenzi, Jonathan Rinzler, and Seth Green.

Jonathan Rinzler, prolific author under the name J.W. Rinzler of bestselling “making of” books about Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Alien and The Shining, among numerous others, died July 28 at his home in Albion, California, of pancreatic cancer. He was 58.

His death was announced on Twitter today by his daughter Sarah Rinzler.

“Jonathan passed away on July 28th after a nearly one-year battle with pancreatic cancer,” Sarah Rinzler wrote on her father’s Twitter page. “Thank you to all for your support and love.”

The author of more than 20 books, including The Making of Star Wars, The Complete Making of Indiana Jones and the graphic novel The Star Wars, Rinzler worked with George Lucas as the executive editor at Lucasfilm for 15 years before leaving the company in 2016.

As the world prepares to completely lose its mind with the release of the new Star Wars film, it is obviously time to try to stir the pot as much as possible. That in mind, the previous films from the franchise are going to be released on April 10th in digital edition, and with some new bonuses to help sucker you in to the purchase.

I love it when when insanely cool stuff like this from the original Star Wars trilogy finds its way into the light after all these years. Just when you think you've seen it all we get to see more original 1970s and '80s Star Wars poster art for the first time. A new Star Wars Art Series book is being released. It's the fifth and final book of series, and it includes rare never-before-seen posters that were created for the theatrical release of the film. The book was written and edited by Jonathan Rinzler, who says,

“This was not really a research book; George really wanted to show the posters without credits. He wanted to highlight the art. So my job was to try and find the actual artwork or layered artwork so we could take off the credits so you could see the artwork for what it is.

The Jedi universe wasn’t built in a day and the construction process had some strange stages. If you thumb through the 1974 draft of the George Lucas script for The Star Wars (as it was called then) you’ll see a funhouse version of the most famous space epic that includes a warrior named Starkiller and a reptilian alien named Han Solo.

That version of Star Wars has been a relatively obscure artifact, but now it will get a spotlight of its own in a major adaptation by Dark Horse Comics that maps out a tale that’s both familiar and totally alien.
