Meet the Gatsby of Koreatown: Lock & Key’s Cyrus Batchan
Image
Click here to read the full article.

Lock & Key, located between a gas station and an unassuming food window on neon-charged Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles’ Koreatown neighborhood, is a Black-owned business — something many patrons of the popular nightlife hangout don’t know. This is not a result of the usual oversight or erasure of leaders of color, but instead by design.

“I’ve always been the owner who doesn’t necessarily want to be known,” Cyrus Batchan, owner of Lock & Key, tells THR while seated in one of his establishment’s lounge-style leather booths. “One of my favorite books growing up was The Great Gatsby. It’s like, you’re the person behind the scenes that people know, or don’t know. You’re kind of in the party, but you’re in the corner, and you’re just there. But you’re throwing a great party. I love that idea.

Exclusive: first trailer for 'Deadly Punkettes'
by Gerald Beanery, MoreHorror.com

In an age of over-achieved crystallizing satire, while studio ventures capsize and simpletons rush to see sensations on screens that are measured solely by light and sound, a rude awakening is shaking in an underground of severe video trauma, where good-looking girls and boys boast waywardly and reach heights in theatricals newcomers to cinema may never have known. Full-frame video a la mode.

The first trailer for Deadly Punkettes has been made public. Jillean Tucker swims through a cavern covered stream of dramatic lily pads brazened by character friends. D'Lannie Brown brings buckets of TNT and gets wicked with them. Danielle Stavin solidifies safe-sex with drum sticks while Lauren Taler must move through several stages of waking up on the right side of the bed repeatedly most mornings. If Skylar Ripp was a flight instructor she'd be flying you to the moon, while Lourdes Narro...

'Deadly Punkettes': Exclusive first look
by Gerald Beanery, MoreHorror.com

Set in a beautiful bird-chirping residential neighborhood in Southern California, a band is born. Made up entirely of pretty private school girls. All the elements are in place and the racquet ball of cinematic sensationalism has been rickashayed into a landfill of soon to-be benevolent screens across the globe.

Pop princess D'Lannie Brown is the answer. A heroine, the jovial decent into clarity; a rich thespian case study. She plays Aspen, the lead singer, and bassist of a new hot act that could not go on without her. Holding it down on drums, is zesty Zeb, played by the delightful and all-natural-Natural Danielle Stavin, in a her film debut. On keyboard is the marvelous Skylar Ripp, as rambunctious Rainy, an interestingly lovely and potent counterpart. Is she a damsel in distress or an instrument of evil? On electric guitar is the ever-so-enlightened Lauren Taler as Carby Kelp,...

by Gerald Beanery, MoreHorror.com

The Teachers' Day novel inspired by the upcoming slasher film of the same name, hit the streets this week. The paperback and Kindle edition are now available on Amazon.

You will laugh. You will cry. And soon you will see the movie. You won't put this novel down, as Campbell's version of the story may just go above and beyond the boundaries of the film, diving deep into the character's unnerving back-stories and personal dilemmas. But only you'll be the judge of that.

Book synopsis: Jessica is an average girl. She gets straight Cs and has a crush on her attractive high school teachers' aide, Mr. Anderson. When her principal ends up dead and Mr. Anderson is blamed, her...

'Deadly Punkettes' teaser art and cast line-up revealed
by Gerald Beanery, MoreHorror.com

Somehow, someway, the award winning bowlegged poet-turned-filmmaker from Midlothian, Virginia, is now getting his 7th feature film produced, Deadly Punkettes. The film will depict the gritty Neapolitan rise and fall of 4 prissy teenage punk-rock princesses, who’ll have to maintain well-rounded riots even after a founding member mysteriously dies, and haunts their act!

The picture might just be the first of its kind, melding an all-girl group novelty with paranormal terror. The plot twists hardly promise to be tame, and the predictability of this particular writer’s track record could convince us the story will be chock full of sassy, silly, and seductive female characters.

Meet the band… On bass guitar and vocals … the daring and diverse D’Lannie Brown, as Aspen, a simple girl who’s about to become enchanted by a new set of illusions in her life … and death. On guitar … the delicate and dear … Claire Gordon-Harper,...

'Teachers’ Day' wrapped on Teachers’ Day
by David Harkness, Morehorror.com

In 1980 you may have been pleasantly mortified by Charles Kaufman’s Mother’s Day. In 1993 people everywhere were mesmerized by a simple weatherman who finds himself living the same day over and over again in Harold Ramis’Groundhog Day. In 1996, July 4th was given a new name in terror when aliens invaded the U.S. in Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day. In 2010 you may have cuddled up to Garry Marshall’s romantic comedy Valentine’s Day, or checked out Chris Lamartina’s President’s Day. In 2013, and for every year after, you will associate the holiday that falls annually on May 7th with the horrors, humor, and startling imagery of a high school educator gone mad in Jared Masters’ Teachers’ Day, a shocking, unexpected to-be hit holiday movie.

It was on May 7th, 2013, on Teachers’ Day, nationwide, that Frolic Pictures announced wrapping principle photography on...

'Teachers' Day' continues to grind away
by David Harkness, Morehorror.com

Jared Lee Masters, mastermind behind the upcoming horror slasher ‘Teachers’ Day’, continues to grind forward on the film. The film is about 2/3 done and has a planned wrap date of early May.

Take a look at the full details below.

From the Press Release:

Once every six or seven years; a motion picture is made that leaves you tingling from amazement, tickled by humor, tantalized by sensationalism, tormented by horror, and tranquilized by fear. The film that's adding up this time: Teachers' Day. Viewers will be instantly immersed into a world of hot pink, ring-pop terror, a rekindling of the sugarcoated adolescence you never had, because your parents were going through a messy divorce (and you were a nasty little rebel). Teachers' Day is an American made slasher-comedy, conceived in the swamps of predictable director Jared Lee Masters' sordid mind. A crock-pot of comedic characters.
