Since the Golden Age of Hollywood, fantasy has been a cornerstone of the film industry's success, from Greek mythology epics like Clash of the Titans to '80s cult classics like Labyrinth. Covering everything from wizards, knights, and dragons to ancient gods and superhero stories, the genre continues to prove itself one of the most diverse in the industry -- and studios continue to establish their new big thing.
Fantasy movies are typically the flagship blockbuster projects of major studios, with many of the industry's record-high budgets being spent on the genre. While iconic hits like The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter carried studios to billion-dollar box office draws, attempts by rival studios to emulate this success have often fallen short. From disastrous book adaptations to attempts at new shared universes, filmmakers usually miss the mark when giving a studio their next big hit.

While its always great for audiences to show their support for the hard work the production crew and stars put into a movie, some post-credits scenes truly were not worth the wait. To make a feature film is a major endeavor, so its important to give the crew their due and stick around for the credits, but if the only reason a viewer was watching them was to see the final scene or catch a hidden Easter egg, plenty of films would leave them disappointed. As post-credits scenes have become more common in recent years, in some cases, they feel needlessly tacked on and without much depth or interest.
The best post-credits scenes offer something new and exciting for viewers to look forward to. This could be the introduction of a long-awaited character, a new plot point that lays the groundwork for a sequel, or even just one final gag...

A Black Adam vs. Superman concept trailer brings the iconic DC titans together in an epic cinematic crossover after the Black Adam post-credits scene tease. It has been nearly two years since Dwayne Johnson joined the Dceu movie timeline as Black Adam, best known as Shazam's greatest enemy. One of the biggest unfinished plot points that was introduced in the post-credits scene of Black Adam was Johnson's titular anti-hero coming face-to-face with Henry Cavill's iteration of Superman.
While there were plans to have Superman and Black Adam fight down the line, the concept was quickly scrapped as Warner Bros. Discovery decided to reboot their DC brand on TV and in film. However, in a proof-of-concept trailer from Screen Culture, Cavill and Johnson's DC characters finally face each other.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson vowed to change the "hierarchy of power" within the Dceu with 2022's Black Adam. The movie was meant to be a fan-pleasing blockbuster which launched a new version of this shared world that, in Johnson's eyes, revolved around his anti-hero.
He reportedly went behind the backs of executives to bring Henry Cavill back as Superman, refused to share the screen with Zachary Levi's Shazam, and hoped to launch everything from a Justice Society movie to Hawkman as part of a slate he and Seven Bucks Productions would oversee.
Black Adam proved to be a mess of a movie with murky visuals and hit-and-miss CGI. Crucially, box office numbers weren't good, reviews were even worse, and Johnson soured people on this already struggling franchise enough to impact 2023's Dceu titles negatively.

Find out where to watch Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson as a slave bestowed with superhuman powers by ancient Egyptian Gods before reawakening to find his homeland still oppressed.
As film studios worked through the long catalog of comic book figures not yet granted feature films, it was inevitable that the Black Adam would eventually find his way to the big screen. Director Jaume Collet-Serra is no stranger to Dwayne Johnson or action films, most recently working on Jungle Cruise starring the incredibly popular actor. In Black Adam, Johnson plays a former slave who managed to overthrow the oppressive rulers of his ancient society of Khandaq after acquiring godlike abilities. Teth-Adam abuses his powers seeking revenge for his son's death, nearly destroying the society. Black Adam is then revived by a modern-day archeologist Adrianna Tomaz (Sarah Shahi) who finds him imprisoned in a tomb. Upon his resurrection, Black Adam encounters members of the Intergang,...

For almost a decade-and-a-half, Dwayne Johnson has been developing the Warner Bros./DC film, "Black Adam." We've finally gotten to see the titular antihero on the big screen going up against the Justice Society of America. And we'll likely see more Black Adam in the future if that cameo in the mid-credits scene is anything to go by, especially since Johnson has said that having Black Adam go up against a certain superhero was the whole point of the film.
In addition to Johnson in the lead role, the cast for "Black Adam" includes Aldis Hodge ("One Night in Miami") as Hawkman, Pierce Brosnan ("Mamma Mia!") as Doctor Fate, Noah Centineo ("To All the Boys I've Loved Before") as Atom Smasher, Sarah Shahi ("Sex/Life") as Adrianna, Marwan Kenzari ("Murder on the Orient Express") as Ishmael, Quintessa Swindell ("Voyagers") as Cyclone, Bodhi Sabongui ("A Million Little Things") as Amon, and Mo Amer ("Mo") as Karim.

Black Adam star Aldis Hodge has revealed what worried him most about his fight scenes with The Rock. The star, who acts under his given name Dwayne Johnson, holds the leading role in Black Adam, which is the latest theatrical film from the DC Universe. Black Adam, also known as Teth-Adam, is a slave from ancient Kahndaq who is given the powers of Shazam before being imprisoned for 5,000 years. When he is released in the modern day, he must wrestle with himself over whether he is truly a hero while attempting to save the life of Adrianna Tomaz (Sarah Shahi), the woman who released him, as well as that of her son Amon (Bodhi Sabongui).

The DC Universe grows with Black Adam, which sets up several new Dceu movies. Warner Bros.'s attempt to make a DC shared universe has taken many forms over the last decade, but plans for Dwayne Johnson to play Black Adam have been part of it since the beginning. Black Adam's release in October 2022 put an end to 15 years of the movie's development and various ideas for how to introduce Dwayne Johnson's anti-hero to the franchise. Now that the wait has come to an end, Black Adam seems to play a significant role in setting up the DC Universe's future.
Even as DC Studios finds new leadership thanks to James Gunn and Peter Safran, Black Adam's connections to the wider franchise mean seeds are planted for what can come next. “Black Adam” is here.
The DC Comics antihero, which has been a passion project for star and producer Dwayne Johnson, has finally been brought to the big screen with all the verve and insanity that you’d expect. This movie has everything – the Justice Society (led by Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman), which we cannot stress enough is not the Justice League; dozens of PG-13-defying deaths; a probably-recorded-on-Zoom cameo from Oscar winner Viola Davis; Pierce Brosnan wearing and constantly talking about a silly-looking helmet. Truly, an embarrassment of riches.
As for the actual story, it follows what happens when Teth-Adam (Black Adam’s ancient name) is freed from an eternal prison after 5,000 years. The kingdom he once knew is now a gang-ravaged wasteland (it takes place in the fictional North African country of Kahndaq). The heroic code that governs most superheroes against, say, murdering dozens of people in cold blood,...

After a long wait, Black Adam finally premiered in movie theaters on Friday, October 21st, and the Dceu fandom couldn't be more excited. The antihero movie portrays Teth Adam (or Black Adam), played by Dwayne Johnson, a formerly enslaved man with the powers of six ancient deities that turned him into their Champion.
One of the aspects people have enjoyed more about the movie is its amazing cast, with great actors such as The Rock, Pierce Brosnan, and Noah Centineo. Other members of the cast are not as well known, but their role in the movie was equally amazing, especially Bodhi Sabongui, who plays the charismatic and hopeful Amon Tomaz, a crucial character in Black Adam's journey.

Warning: This article contains major spoilers for the movie "Black Adam."
"Black Adam" has finally arrived in theaters after a 15-year roller coaster of development hell, but was it worth the wait? Critics are mixed — you can see what /Film's own Witney Seibold thought about the film in his "Black Adam" review — while audiences seem far more receptive to the newest DC Extended Universe entry. Both agree that Dwayne Johnson is great as the titular hero, combining subtle dry humor with the stoicism of an antihero straight out of a Sergio Leone Western. Johnson has called this film a labor of love, and his passion and enthusiasm explode on the screen. He's having a ball; by default, most audience members will, too.
In addition to Black Adam, it's exciting to see classic heroes Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo) make their big-screen debut.

The DC Universe was in need of a hero. DC's plans to emulate the massive success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been hampered now for years by a host of unfortunate factors. "Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice" was met by strong critical derision. Snyder's "Justice League" follow-up was further hindered by the director stepping away due to family tragedy, with the film completed by Joss Whedon — a process that expensively altered a movie that also underperformed relative to expectations. The result was a Warner Bros. that sought to implement new leadership and move on without Snyder's vision, followed by campaigns for DC to fund "Zack Snyder's Justice League" amidst a tense battle to determine the way forward for future DC films. It's no surprise that new Warner Bros. head David Zaslav's call for someone to spearhead a 10-year vision for the DC slate of films has so far gone unanswered.

Can you feel that? Yeah, that’s the hierarchy of the DC Extended Universe being upended. At least, according to “Black Adam” star Dwayne Johnson.
This long-in-the-works adaptation of the comic book antihero, who began life as a “Shazam!” spin-off, is finally here, and it’s ushering in (potentially) a new phase of movies based on DC properties. (DC admittedly hasn’t had the easiest go of things.)
In the new movie, Johnson’s character, referred to as Teth-Adam for most of the runtime, is a godlike creature resurrected after 5,000 years of imprisonment in the fictional North African nation of Khandaq. It’s there that he kills many, many people, runs afoul of the Justice Society (led by Aldis Hodge as Hawkman), and gains some of his humanity back after befriending a young widow (Sarah Shahi) and her John Connor-esque son (Bodhi Sabongui).

Warning: Spoilers for Black Adam! The Black Adam characters Adrianna Tomaz and her son, Amon, could have a big future in the Dceu. The ensemble cast of Black Adam is led by Dwayne Johnson's titular meta-human antihero, who is awakened from his 5,000-year imprisonment in modern-day Kahndaq. Chicago – Once again Dwayne Johnson finds himself in a vehicle unworthy of his considerable charms and talents. Johnson stars as “Black Adam,” a demigod from a mythical middle eastern country who was given power from a counsel of wizards to protect his homeland from injustice. He’s woken from a 5000 year sleep to protect the country again from foreign interlopers... while a scholar and her son are trying to keep an ancient crown – with the powers of hell – out of the wrong hands.

We have reached the end of a very long journey, DC fans. "Black Adam" has finally arrived in theaters, bringing an epic 15-year saga to its conclusion (or perhaps beginning?) for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The man became attached to the role back in 2007 and, at long last, he has brought Teth Adam to life on the big screen for the first time in the character's history. So, how did it go?
Today, we're going to go over the movie briefly, but mostly focus on the ending and what it means for the character in the Dceu, and, broadly speaking, what it means from an analytical standpoint. And, not to show my hand here, but does it have anything hiding underneath the surface at all? Or is this truly just an antihero origin story? Let's dig in.

Finally, Black Adam signals the return of the blockbuster. The Dceu film could not come soon enough, arriving after a brutal box office drought with 12 straight weekends where the overall box office was below 100 million, a streak that will hopefully be broken this weekend. After over two months of what was ultimately counter-programming without the main programming, it’s great to have some heavier weight classes back in the ring, which started with last weekend’s disappointing but still good 40.1 million opening for Halloween Ends. Black Adam isn’t the sort to come even close to a nine digit opening (for that we’ll have to wait three weeks for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), but two weeks in a row of at least mid-eight digit openings is bringing some much needed relief to a struggling marketplace.

It’s therefore a perfect fit for what one day might be described as the “chaos era” of DC Comics’s corporate owners Warner Bros. This year, the studio merged with Discovery Group and placed Discovery’s CEO David Zaslav at its head. He then launched a wrecking ball at Warner’s creative portfolio – downsizing its animation unit, threatening any number of forthcoming films and TV shows, and notoriously cancelling HBO Max’s 90m Batgirl film.
Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson, may predate this entire debacle, but it has incidentally harnessed that same sentiment of action without thought. It’s relentless but stubbornly monotonous – what I imagine it’s like to be picked up curbside...

Actor Noah Centineo, who plays the role of Atom Smasher in the recently released superhero film ‘Black Adam’, recently shared his memories of reading and being consumed by DC comics.
The actor told Ians: “I grew up pretending to have superpowers in my room. I grew up watching animated DC films. I remember spending hours with those books where you could draw DC characters.”
When asked about how life has come full circle for him with ‘Black Adam’, he said: “To grow up and be able to portray one of my most loved superheroes in such a way working with talents such as Dwayne Johnson and Pierce Brosnan is like a dream come true for that little kid.”
Sharing his experience of working with Pierce Brosnan, Noah said: “It was a huge learning opportunity. When you work with an artiste of Pierce Brosnan’s stature, you really get into giving 100 per cent to the character.

Dwayne Johnson stars as DC’s anti-hero Black Adam in this de facto spin-off from 2019’s Shazam. Indeed, the character was originally intended to be the antagonist in the Shazam movie, until producers decided he merited his own franchise. On the strength of the new movie, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, that was probably the right call.
Unusually for a DC superhero movie, Black Adam is set entirely in the fictional Middle Eastern city of Kahndaq, which has been enriched by the discovery of a powerful element called Eternium (similarities to Black Panther’s Vibranium are presumably coincidental). When Kahndaq freedom fighter-slash-archaeologist Adrianna (Sarah Shahi) unearths a mystical crown, she unwittingly releases Teth-Adam (Johnson), an all-powerful super-being who soon unleashes his destructive force on Intergang,...

With Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam movie being released this week, early reviews have started rolling in from the critics. After being cast as Black Adam over a decade ago, Johnson's long-awaited solo film is finally opening worldwide, as the Dceu will introduce the iconic DC character. Originally Johnson was going to appear as Black Adam in Shazam!. Still, after seeing the early scripts, the actor persuaded Warner Bros. to let the two characters star in their own respective films before clashing on the big screen.
For several years, Black Adam has been one of Warner Bros.'s most hyped-up superhero projects, as Johnson has stressed that it will forever change "the hierarchy of power" in the Dceu. While the studio has been dealing with changes behind-the-scenes for their DC properties, Black Adam is being envisioned as a new chapter for the franchise besides telling Teth-Adam's grim origin story. The hierarchy of power in the DC universe is about to change, or so says The Rock. That's because "Black Adam" is finally hitting theaters after being stuck in development for years (and years). Dwayne Johnson has been attached to the role for a very long time, but through persistence and a lot of shifts behind the scenes at DC Films, this one finally came to fruition, with director Jaume Collet-Serra ("Jungle Cruise") behind the camera. But now for the ever-important question: do moviegoers have to sit through the credits?
Well, dear reader, we are here to answer that question and let you know in spoiler-free fashion whether or not the movie has a post-credits scene, or scenes, of any kind. That way, you can plan those bathroom breaks accordingly. Again, we will not spoil anything here so read on with ease. Let's get into it.

Plot: Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson), the mythical hero of the occupied city of Kahndaq, is released into modern times. While the woman (Sarah Shahi) who freed him and her family hoped he would liberate his people, Black Adam is not the hero they think he is. He hides a dark secret that puts him in conflict with the Justice Society of America, who want to stop his deadly rampage.
Review: DC’s Black Adam is undoubtedly a passion project for Dwayne Johnson. He’s been attached to it in some form or another for about fifteen years. As everyone knows by now, the initial plan was to use him as a villain in the Shazam movie. Believing in the promise of the character, Johnson held out until he could get a film of his own. Indeed, Black Adam is among the most ambitious movies the star has ever made, with...

The question that “Black Adam” poses is a simple one: What happens when Hollywood’s most risk-averse movie star collides with Hollywood’s most risk-averse movie genre? The answer provided by complex is, of course, even simpler: Exactly what you’d expect. Only worse.
All due respect to whatever unique and illustrious history Black Adam may have developed since his DC Comics debut in 1945, but the lifeless spectacle that director Jaume Collet-Serra — who made some nifty thrillers before “Jungle Cruise” reduced him to the John Ford of Rawson Marshall Thurbers — has cobbled together for the character’s big screen origin story is so exhaustingly derivative of other superhero movies that the ancient Egyptian antihero might as well not have any history at all.
The problems stem from an irreconcilable mismatch between star and subject. Part of the issue is that playing the Scorpion King does not, in fact, make someone...

In the Middle Eastern country of Kahndaq, circa 2500 B.C., a tyrannical king is desperate to mine a rare mineral known as “Eternium.” Slaves toil day and night in search of this magical resource, so that he may fashion a supernatural crown out of it that will grant him immeasurable power. Luckily, a boy is deemed worthy by a council of ancient wizards to be the defender of his people, and with one word (“Shazam!”), he is transformed into a mighty hero. He destroys the palace before this wretched regent becomes unstoppable and immortal,...

“A bad plan is better than no plan at all.” This is a line that pops up at various points during “Black Adam,” and while it’s meant to be a whimsical comment regarding the task at hand, by its second repetition it starts to feel like the movie apologizing for itself and its muddled storytelling.
That task is the capture of an exceedingly powerful ancient metahuman known as Teth Adam (Dwayne Johnson), and despite the movie’s best efforts to jazz up the increasingly predictable superhero genre — this one doesn’t care if he kills people — “Black Adam” feels like both too much and not enough, and none of its narrative gambits are helped by a sludgy visual style that’s either distractingly artificial or dispiritingly gloomy, except when it manages to be both.

A superhero movie in which a likely presidential candidate shows how satisfying it is to wield overwhelming force when nobody’s strong enough to challenge you, Jaume Collet-Serra’s Black Adam will, for most viewers, just be another fine-not-great night of spandex mayhem and franchises hoping to be born. Other moviegoers may have trouble finding escapist pleasure here, given the knotty global issues the movie raises but doesn’t fully process. As depressing as it is to have to parse the carnival of pop culture for hints of tomorrow’s foreign policy (and to imagine threat scenarios involving an entertainer as likable as Dwayne Johnson), that’s the world we live in right now.
So before asking if it’s fun or not, let’s acknowledge: Black Adam is all about the merits of sending American muscle to the world’s hotspots, and...

It is perhaps telling that Dwayne Johnson, star of Jaume Collet-Serra's new superhero film "Black Adam," has recently appeared in the press announcing that his film will feature a notable post-credits cameo. These sorts of cameos, hints, and miniature previews have, over the course of the last decade, become the lifeblood of superhero movies, forcing audiences to look always forward to the next chapter rather than dwell on the present. Each film served almost exclusively as a preview for the next. Back in 2015, the late film critic James Rocchi called this phenomenon the Marvel Industrial Complex, pointing out how the genre had, as early as seven years ago, already foregone conventional storytelling in favor of anticipation-based corporate architecture.
"Black Adam," true to this ethos, feels more like a hastily speed-read footnote than a feature. It's a jumbled mess of a movie that grabs great fistfuls of all-too-familiar blockbuster beats...

Dwayne Johnson hit the red carpet premiere of “Black Adam” in New York City where he chatted about the upcoming film and the future of the DC universe.
The actor who stars as the antihero himself — Black Adam — revealed where he sees himself fitting in when it comes to helming future DC films, similarly to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.
“The best position that I could be for DC is one as an adviser, where I can help. I love DC. It’s in my blood,” Johnson told Variety. “In the spirit of growing up with the DC Universe. I’m here to help in any way I can, including looking for and finding that right leader or leaders.”

The DC/Warner Bros. Pictures film "Black Adam" has been in development for almost a decade, and it's been a passion project since the beginning for star Dwayne Johnson. This character is powerful, and for quite some time, we've been hearing Johnson say that the "hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change." We all know what that means: Johnson has been hoping for a showdown between Superman and Black Adam, whose powers are a match for the Kryptonian.
Black Adam is also known as Teth-Adam, a man who lived thousands of years ago in Kahndaq, a fictional city in the Middle East. He's granted powers, then locked away. When he's awoken again, the Justice Society of America -- including Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Dr. Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) -- is sent by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) to deal with this new force causing chaos.

WaterTower Music has released the first music to be heard from the upcoming New Line Cinema action adventure “Black Adam,” starring Dwayne Johnson. The first-ever feature film to explore the story of the uncompromising DC antihero comes to the big screen under the direction of Jaume Collet-Serra (“Jungle Cruise”). The Black Adam Theme (from “Black Adam”) by highly respected Grammy Award-winning and Emmy-nominated composer Lorne Balfe has just been released – in advance of the film and soundtrack release. “Black Adam” smashes into theaters and IMAX internationally beginning 19 October 2022, and in North America on October 21, 2022.
Balfe’s vision for the music of Black Adam encompasses an exploration into the back stories that define the characters. The composer commented on that approach. “It was exciting to get into the Black Adam theme, and I really wanted to capture his essence as the DC comic book world’s anti-hero. We had a large...

After years spent in development hell, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam will finally be hitting theaters next month. Johnson has frequently said that the movie will change the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe as it starts a whole new era, but it won’t be long until we find out for ourselves. New Line Cinema has released a new Black Adam poster which finds Black Adam seated upon a throne.
The Black Adam poster proclaims that the time for heroes is over, but I’ll be curious to see just how dark they’ll take the character without making him a straight-up villain. The movie has certainly been a long time coming, and at one point, the character was supposed to appear in the Shazam! movie before Dwayne Johnson decided the two needed their own separate movies.

The Hollywood Reporter said during the panel discussion:
Johnson tackled an age-old question: who would win in a fight, Black Adam or Superman? Earlier in the week, rumors circulated that Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill might show up or send a video message for the panel, but that didn’t come to fruition.
Said the actor of a matchup between the DC characters: “Pound for pound, they are pretty close. I guess it probably all depends on who is playing Superman.
