Prime Video is moving out of the Steel City, cancelling the comedy The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh after just one season, TVLine has confirmed.

Exclusive: Prime Video has opted not to renew The Pradeeps Of Pittsburgh for a second season. The news comes more than three months after the eight-episode first season of the immigrant comedy, starring Naveen Andrews, Sindhu Vee, and Megan Hilty, was released on Amazon Freevee.

It is not entirely surprising because The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh, which drew comparisons to ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat, did not make much noise among viewers despite largely favorably reviews (75% on Rotten Tomatoes)

There were outside factors in play, too. The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh was one of several shows lost in the shuffle as the the free, ad-supported Freevee, which had a comedy identity thanks to shows like Jury Duty, was shut down a couple of weeks after The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh‘s launch. Starring the likes of Sahana Srinivasan, the streaming hit has only released eight episodes, but that is not to say it is impossible that the series will return for more.

“The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh” creator and showrunner Vijal Patel said the dead rabbits that were placed on the Pradeeps’ doorstep and hunting trips with white Christian neighbors were all real-life events he’s been able to find humor in. In fact, it was those challenges that ultimately motivated him to create the Prime Video series in the first place.

“Dead rabbits, white hunting neighbors who are very Christian who brought us on hunting trips, or like, ‘Hey, let’s go hunting.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t f–ing hunt,’ [and they’re like,] ‘But it’ll be fun, like bro time,'” Patel shared with TheWrap in a press junket interview for the show, which premiered Thursday.

Lost star Naveen Andrews makes a return to TV as the headliner for The Pradeeps Of Pittsburgh, a new comedy that just landed a straight-to-series deal with Amazon Freevee. Andrews rose to prominence for playing the Iraqi engineer Sayid Jarrah in the hit ABC sci-fi drama Lost from 2004 to 2010. On Thursday, Deadline reported that Amazon’s premium free streaming channel Freevee as given a straight-to-series order to the comedy “The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh”, starring Naveen Andrews.

Inspired by the personal experiences of “Black-ish” and “The Middle” writer Vital Patel, the series will also star Megan Hilty and Sindhu Vee.
