Denzel Washington may have two Oscars to his name, but the accomplished actor is part of just one film franchise. Though that may be the case, the franchise he is part of is blowing up on the streaming charts. Per FlixPatrol, Washington's The Equalizer 3is currently Number 12 in the U.S. among all the movies streaming on Hulu.
The 2023 threequel is ahead of The Heat, Just Go with It, and F Marry Kill, which are in the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth spots, respectively. The top spot on the Hulu chart belongs to Jason Statham’s Wrath of Man.
In The Equalizer 3, Washington reprises his role as Robert McCall, who, after giving up his work as a government assassin, tries to repent for his past. In the film, McCall is seen trying to adjust to a new life in southern Italy. But, he soon has to step into action...

From Scratch True Story Explained: What The Netflix Miniseries Leaves Out & Where Tembi Locke Is Now
Netflix's miniseries From Scratch is one of the most emotional and poignant series the streaming giant has produced. The story follows Amy, an American art student (Zoe Saldaña), who falls in love with Sicilian chef Lino (Eugenio Mastrandrea), while living in Italy. From Scratch resonated with Netflix viewers worldwide and became an instant hit. While the love story drew audiences in, it was the show's exploration of the couple's hardships that made it special. After Lino is diagnosed with cancer, the couple struggles with his health issues, navigates the culture clash between their judgmental families, and eventually adopts a child.
Many viewers were surprised to learn that the limited series is based on a true story. Series creators and real-life sisters Tembi and Attica Locke drew inspiration from Tembi's memoir, From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home. While some details of their lives were altered for the series,...

Zoe Saldaña starred in a Netflix drama, From Scratch, that flew under most people's radars and now viewers may be wondering if it's worth returning to. From Scratch is a 2022 Netflix show that stars Saldaña as Amy Wheeler, a Georgetown law student who takes a break from her studies to travel to Italy. While she's there, she falls in love with a free-spirited chef, Lino (Eugenio Mastrandrea), and begins to realize that maybe there is more to life than just what she planned for herself. In only eight episodes, From Scratch explores the ups and downs of new romance.

The action-packed thriller marks a successful conclusion to Washington's reboot of the popular TV series. The cast and crew of The Equalizer 3 filmed in Italy, utilizing locations in Rome and Campania to capture the essence of the film's setting. Cinecittà Studios in Rome served as a significant filming location, offering spacious and famous film studios for certain sequences in the movie. The picturesque Amalfi Coast and Naples in Campania provided a backdrop that made it seem like the film was set in Sicily, even though the actual Sicilian scenes were shot on the other side of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
It likely serves as Denzel Washington's last outing as Robert McCall in the franchise, and The Equalizer 3 filming locations took them to Italy for the final movie. Aside from Washington, the rest of the cast included Dakota Fanning as Emma Collins, Eugenio Mastrandrea as Gio Bonucci, David Denman as Frank Conroy, Sonia Ben Ammar as Chiara Bonucci, and Remo Girone as Enzo Arisio.

Despite being marketed as the final chapter, a surprise fourth installment of The Equalizer franchise is in very early development. The success of The Equalizer 3 at the box office makes the idea of a fourth movie less surprising. Writer Richard Wenk is tasked with figuring out how the franchise can continue.
Last year’s action sequel The Equalizer 3 was marketed as the final chapter in director Antoine Fuqua and star Denzel Washington’s saga, but writer Richard Wenk, who has written all three installments in The Equalizer franchise, has now hinted that a surprise fourth movie could be on the cards. In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Wenk explained that, while he felt that the third outing was the last and provided closure, he has now been “tasked” with finding out how the franchise could continue...

The Equalizer films explore the inner struggle of protagonist Robert McCall, who questions his own principles and morality. Symbolic storms and rain in the films represent McCall's violent tendencies and the conflict between his past and present selves. The religious parade scene in The Equalizer 3 serves as a metaphor for McCall's spiritual regeneration and redefining himself through acts of violence.
Loosely based on a TV series that first premiered on CBS back in the 1980s, the 2014 big-screen adaptation of The Equalizer starring Denzel Washington did an excellent job at retelling the action-packed tale of the infamous retired Dia agent. The Man on Fire actor was praised for his sturdiness in the role, and fans welcomed the slower pace of the action movie and hard-hitting payoffs.

Attica and Tembi Locke are re-teaming for another TV series.
The siblings, who already adapted Tembi’s memoir as the Netflix series From Scratch, have signed an overall deal with Universal Television and set up their first project under the pact: an adaptation of Attica’s novel Bluebird, Bluebird.
The drama, which does not yet have a network/platform attached, revolves around Darren Mathews, a Black Texas Ranger who is deeply ambivalent about growing up Black in the lone star state and was the first in his family to get as far away from Texas as he could — until duty called him home.
The Lockes will co-write and exec produce the series alongside Richard Abate, Jermaine Johnson and Will Rowbotham for 3 Arts Entertainment.
“From our first meeting with Universal Television, we felt instant creative alignment,” said Attica and Tembi Locke. “As authors, we understand storytelling across different formats and platforms.

The Equalizer 3 did not bring back original characters because it was always intended to have separate storylines. The focus of The Equalizer 2 was on the Dia and dangerous assassins, making it difficult to bring back characters, such as Ralphie and Alina. The addition of new characters, particularly Emma Collins-Plummer, created excitement and still maintained a connection to Robert's past associates.
Director Antoine Fuqua explains why The Equalizer 3 didn’t bring back two original movie characters. The trilogy began in 2014 when former Dia officer Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) came out of retirement to handle the Russian mafia who had trafficked a teenager. Antoine Fuqua's new film "The Equalizer 3" takes place in a placid, seaside Italian village where the vicious vigilante Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) has come to rest. Well, more specifically, McCall is there to recover from a bullet wound after having infiltrated a gangster's Italian lair and murdered him and about a hundred of his thugs. While he recovers, McCall finds that he likes the town's quaint storefronts and friendly locals, eventually realizing that he'd like to retire to this place as soon as possible. Before that can happen, though, he first has to murder several hundred more mafiosi who aim to bully the hamlet's shopowners from their buildings, tear the town down, and build garish casinos in its place.
One evening while enjoying a dinner out, McCall witnesses a tattooed, gun-toting fratboy criminal shake down the only good cop in town (Eugenio Mastrandrea...

While it’s certainly nice to get a change of scenery from the Boston travelogue of the first two films in the Equalizer series, Italy, at least on paper, might seem like an odd, random choice of locale for Antoine Fuqua to wrap up the trilogy. But not long after The Equalizer 3 opens on an Italian man and his son cruising toward a Sicilian vineyard, it all starts to make sense: The fertile soil and pathways to the main villa are strewn with mutilated bodies, all the way down into a basement where the shadowy figure of Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) looks upon the aforementioned man with a casually predatory indifference.
Those opening minutes justify the trek to Italy more than any of the delicious-looking cappuccinos that McCall downs later in the film. Despite always being on the side of swift justice for the little guys of the world,...

Denzel Washington takes a final bow as heroic vigilante Robert McCall in The Equalizer 3. Severely wounded after a mysterious mission in Sicily, an unconscious McCall is found by a kind policeman (Eugenio Mastrandrea). He's taken to the idyllic seaside town of Altamonte on the Amalfi Coast and nursed back to health. McCall is generously accepted and finds peace for the first time in his life. That's shattered when the Camorra, Italian organized crime, targets the locals with brutal extortion methods. McCall must defend his new friends but also complete what he started before getting injured.
Director Antoine Fuqua brings a symphony of masterful violence to the trilogy's conclusion. He comments that "filming in Italy was like a dream." Fuqua wanted an "unexpected setting" for McCall's "final masterpiece." Shooting with "the people in the village" in their "actual language" adds a "layer of texture to cinema you can't fake."

Nobody can threaten someone quietly better than Denzel Washington.
Oh, our man can pump up the volume when he needs to, in terms of letting people know he’s bringing the pain — our ears are still ringing from his “King Kong ain’t got shit on me!” taunt from Training Day. But when he lowers his voice to a basso profundo rumble and he fixes that dead-eyed stare on someone, the one that suggests the unflappable, untouchable Teflon Denzel has officially entered the building, and issues some sort of oh-you’ve-stepped-in-it-now promise of bodily harm?...

Returning for the third installment in the gritty action saga, The Equalizer 3 aims to deepen the mysterious world of Robert McCall. With Denzel Washington’s undeniable charm at its helm and Antione Fuqua’s seasoned direction, the film promises a continuation of its intense street-justice narrative. Yet, does it deliver the high-octane thrills we’ve come to expect, or does it falter under the weight of its own legacy? In addition to Washington, the film also stars Dakota Fanning, Eugenio Mastrandrea, Andrea Scarduzio, and Remo Girone. Richard Wenk returns as screenwriter.
The film starts with one of the bloodiest intro scenes, beginning with Robert McCall (Washington) captured by thugs. They don’t stand a chance, though, as McCall delivers his famed countdown smackdown, and just like that, the bad guys are rendered useless. Just who is the Equalizer? Despite a hit TV show in the 1980s and another with Queen Latifah still running, that title has become synonymous with Denzel Washington, who returns as government-assassin-turned-vigilante Robert McCall. Billed as the final chapter in a trilogy, “The Equalizer 3” sees McCall finding community in a picturesque part of Italy and being forced to protect its people from the mafia. The film also reteams Washington with director Antoine Fuqua for the fifth time, and their comfort with one another ensures a seamless action movie that might not attract new fans, but should play well to those already fond of this franchise.
Fuqua throws the audience directly into the action. The camera follows a man as he walks through an Italian vineyard strewn with bodies, knives and bullet wounds jutting out of them. McCall must be close by, a point reinforced by Marcelo Zarvos’ quietly alarming score.

To enjoy the (allegedly) final entry in Antoine Fuqua’s “The Equalizer” trilogy, it’s not at all crucial to understand the particulars of how former Marine and intelligence operative Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) lands in Italy for this latest outing. It’s safe to assume the vigilante is there to kick some bad-dude butt, with more convoluted revelations to come. Wherever Robert McCall lands, even a luxurious private winery, there are villains afoot for him to kill off in the most gruesome manners, details be damned.
And “The Equalizer 3” opens with Robert skulking around said winery, offing dark-clad mercenary types, and apparently setting right some sort of horrible injustice. As we might expect, he gets much more than he bargained for — and so will fans of Fuqua’s brutal action series, which closes out in fine style.

In between doling out Oscar-worthy performances and making Shakespearean monologues feel like something you haven't heard a thousand times before, Denzel Washington has spent the past two decades cracking skulls and taking names, going back to at least "Man on Fire." In fact, he's been doing it so long, his co-star in Tony Scott's sublime 2004 action-thriller, Dakota Fanning, had the chance to go off and grow up into a fully-fledged adult actor. That noise you just heard was the sound of millions of Millennials popping the vertebrae in their backs as they abruptly jerked upright, crying out in terror.

Denzel Washington is slated to return in The Equalizer 3, and a new synopsis teases that he'll have his hands full facing off against the Italian mafia. Loosely based on a 1980s TV show of the same name, 2014's The Equalizer introduced audiences to Washington's Robert McCall, a retired intelligence offer who uses his violent skills to protect a young prostitute. Washington returned for a sequel in 2018, and it was confirmed in early 2022 that he would re-team with franchise director Antoine Fuqua for a third installment due out later this year.

“Deep, deep down, I knew it was going to be an uphill experience, and I was ready. I was all for it, and it ended up being much harder than I was expecting, but we showed up every day,” admits Zoe Saldana about starring in and co-producing the hit Netflix limited series “From Scratch.” For our recent webchat she adds, “the cast, the LA crew, the Italian crew; we showed up every day, and we gave it 120%. It didn’t matter if it was 16 hour days or 10 hour days. We were in it because we had all been moved by [writer and co-creator] Tembi’s story. But also we all had our personal share of grief, and we were there for ourselves as well, and Tembi gave us that space. That’s the thing about death and grief is it’s not an exclusive walk in life, it is inclusive of everyone and of everything.
