Cologne-based sales outfit New Docs has taken world rights to Atirkül In The Land of Real Men, a film receiving its international premiere in IDFA’s Luminous section later this week.

Directed by Janyl Jusupjan, the Czech-produced documentary looks at Buzkashi, a highly popular horseback sport in Kyrgyzstan. Constantin Film and Warner Bros Germany crowned Ffa’s ‘Industry Tigers’ for 2022

They received the most automatic funding from the Ffa for German films at the German box office.

Constantin Film and Warner Bros Germany were the most successful local production companies and distributors for German films at the German box office in 2022, according to the German Federal Film Board (Ffa).

They have been dubbed ‘Industry Tigers’ by the Ffa and means both companies receive the most in the Ffa’s automatic ‘reference funding’ from the organisation, in line with the amount their German films grossed locally and were exposed at international film festivals in 2022.

Zinc Media Group Acquires Edge Picture Company – Global Bulletin

Factual content specialist Zinc Media Group has fundraised £5 million (6.1 million) and is using £2.1 million of it towards acquiring award-winning production company The Edge Picture Company, which operates from its bases in London, Doha, Vancouver and Paris. The rest of the cash will be invested in talent, potential IP, and in future acquisitions and collaborations. The Edge’s clients include Amazon, BT Group and FIFA.

The Edge joins Zinc Media Group at the end of August, subject to approval by Zinc shareholders. The Edge will continue to operate in line with other companies wholly owned by Zinc Media Group and it will continue to be run by the same management team, but benefit from the opportunities presented by being part of an enlarged organisation.

Although it may be hard to believe, summer is picking up speed and heading towards fall and the beginning of Fantastic Fest, taking place September 22nd–29th in Austin, Texas. Today, Fantastic Fest, in association with Alamo Drafthouse, has announced the first wave of programming for its 12th annual celebration of the wild, wonderful, and peculiar in genre-twisting cinema. This year’s festival features a delightful array of films and guests, including Tim Burton for a red carpet screening of “Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children,” a special screening of “Phantasm: Remastered” with director Don Coscarelli and cast in attendance, and Andrea Arnold’s “American Honey,” with star and Texas native Sasha Lane hosting the event.
