'Murderbot' Star Alexander Skarsgård Reveals the Scene That Made Him Break
Image
Apple TV+ has recently aired yet another successful sci-fi series, adding to its growing library of titles, with the genre in particular being abundant on the streaming platform. There are, of course, various sub-genres within these titles, and the newest series in question, Murderbot, is filled with plenty of comedy for viewers to enjoy. The series tells the story of a SecUnit robot played by Alexander Skarsgård, who gains the gift of free will but is reluctantly assigned to a mission on a dangerous planet. As it turns out, playing an emotionless robot came with a unique set of challenges, as the lead actor revealed in a recent interview.

While speaking with CinemaBlend about Murderbot, Skarsgård described the various situations in which he found himself breaking character due to his costars. The inherent nature of playing a robot involving having a Stoic demeanor and an unflinching response to even the...

Murderbot Episode 6 review: "Command Feed" brings out the best and worst in Murderbot
Image
We've officially crossed the halfway point in the first season of Murderbot on Apple TV+, and things are starting to get pretty dicey for Murderbot (Alexander Skarsgård), Doctor Mensah (Noma Dumezweni), and the rest of the PresAux survey team. Last week's episode ended with another cliffhanger, as Murderbot and Mensah's hopper was caught in an explosion from their sabotaged emergency beacon. Their shuttle has crashed, and now they'll have to work together to get back to safety.

Meanwhile, Gurathin (David Dastmalchian), Bharadwaj (Tomara Podemski), Arada (Tattiawna Jones), Pin-Lee (Sabrina Wu), and Ratthi (Akshay Khanna) find out that there's more to the DeltFall refugee Leebeebee (Anna Konkle) than they thought. By the end of the episode, it all comes crashing back together as Murderbot is forced to finally do a bit of murdering.

Full Spoilers for Murderbot Episode 6 ahead.

‘Murderbot’ Episode 6 Review: Storyline Sparks Fly, But Are the Wheels Turning or Just Spinning?
Image
What do you do when your safe space starts looking like your reality? You delete the manual and binge the 19th season. This is me, rethinking life choices after watching Murderbot Episode 6, titled Command Feed.

You know you’re knee-deep in a cracking good episode when your favorite emotionally constipated cyborg ends up as both therapist and spare parts. After the previous emotionally intelligent sci-fi episode, this week’s chaos of Murderbot is like an existential crisis wrapped in a broken hopper and seasoned with enough social awkwardness to host a high school reunion.

Murderbot (Alexander Skarsgård), our beloved angst-powered SecUnit, has finally come face-to-face with its own psychology, and unfortunately, that face is Mensah’s during a full-blown panic attack. From making space in its internal storage by yeeting the hopper repair manual, to being used as a literal spare part, spinal nerve and all, this episode pushes every...

Murderbot stars find it "very comforting" that author Martha Wells is a producer
Image
We're deep into the first season of Murderbot on Apple TV+, and the hits keep coming. In the fifth episode of the series, our reluctantly heroic SecUnit played by Alexander Skarsgård was brought back from the brink by the Preservation Alliance team after it sacrificed itself to save them from a rogue SecUnit at the ruined DeltFall habitat. This led to some frank conversations where Murderbot's biggest secret finally came out. But by the time the credits rolled, it was once more in a dire situation as the emergency beacon it was flying toward with Doctor Mensah (Noma Dumezweni) exploded, causing their shuttle to crash. Can't a Murderbot catch a break?

The show is excelling at these sorts of quick, catchy cliffhangers. Thank goodness we've still got five more episodes of the series left to go.

The cast has been out there drumming up excitement for the show and...

Murderbot episode 5 recap: The truth about Sec Unit comes out
Image
The previous episode of Murderbot ended with Sec Unit, despite having free will, sacrificing itself to protect the human it keeps complaining about. But I think they're starting to grow on it. Episode 5, "Rogue War Tracker Infinite," picks up where the story left off, and reveals the truth about our favorite bot to the group. Here's a recap of what happened in the Apple TV+ series. Spoilers below.

We know that this group of researchers aren't just your typical humans. They care about each other deeply, and they also have a conscience and can't hlep themselves from caring about Sec Unit. They view it as a part of the team now, even if it could be dangerous. They decide to repair and reboot it, even if they do run the risk of Murderbot killing them. Ok, then.

Murderbot's secrets are exposed

Thankfully, Sec Unit is fine and does not indeed kill them.

Murderbot Season 1 Episode 5 Review: Trust, Treachery, and Trouble
Image
Apple TV+’s Murderbot hits its mid-season stride with “Rogue War Tracker Infinite,” a densely packed episode that juggles new characters, deepening distrust, and a whole lot of emotional awkwardness for both humans and cyborgs.

After Murderbot Season 2 Episode 4’s dramatic self-termination, Murderbot reboots into a ship full of people with questions… and one DeltFall survivor with absolutely no filter.

If you ended the last episode wondering what would happen after a SecUnit voluntarily blew a hole through itself, this episode wastes no time answering. Murderbot is repaired but not trusted.

(Apple TV+)

Gurathin paralyzes him just to be safe and leads a tense crew meeting about whether their pet murder machine should remain part of the group.

It’s a moral dilemma that’s been simmering all season, and now it explodes into open debate.

‘Murderbot’ Episode 5 Review: Ping, Boom, Panic – Another Day in the Dysfunctional Galaxy
Image
“I’m not a good person. I’m just a bot with access to way too many serials and not enough patience for idiots.” If Alexander Skarsgård’s Murderbot could write its own diary, I bet that’s how it would start. But lucky for you, I’m the one doing the talking: fully human, mildly caffeinated, and hopelessly addicted to sarcastic sci-fi.

Episode 5 of Murderbot, coyly titled Rogue War Tracker Infinite, isn’t just another 22-29 minutes of quirky robot-human bonding and interstellar drama; it’s a full-blown therapy session wrapped in dry humor, trust issues, and enough passive-aggressive dialogue to make Jane Austen roll over and take notes.

From rogue bots with god complexes to ‘woke’ humans flexing their liberal arts degrees at the worst times to Leebeebee and her questionable trauma response, this episode delivers both laughs and existential dread like a perfectly malfunctioning delivery drone.

Add in some betrayal,...

Murderbot Episode 5 review: the truth comes out in "Rogue War Tracker Infinite"
Image
Believe it or not, we're officially halfway through the first season of Murderbot on Apple TV+. The fourth episode ended with a bang, as the SecUnit played by Alexander Skarsgård was forced to shoot itself in the chest before a malicious override module could force it to kill all its friends. Is this the end for our reluctant hero?

Of course not! "Rogue War Tracker Infinite" picks up with Murderbot in the medbay of the PresAux habitat, where the rest of the team is hard at work repairing it. Which it thinks is a pretty stupid idea, since it doesn't particularly trust them to do the job well and the tendrils from the override module are still embedded in its system. But hey, who can blame Murderbot for having some trust issues?

Beware full spoilers ahead for Murderbot Episode 5, "Rogue War Tracker Infinite."

‘Murderbot’: Rise of Alexander Skarsgård as the Machine
Image
Is the title character of the new Apple TV+ series Murderbot the most relatable person, machine, or other in science fiction history? Yes, the security unit (played by Alexander Skarsgård) has no genitals and various deadly weapons built into its artificial body. But its desires are simple: “All I really wanted was to be left alone to watch my shows.”

You see, in the first episode of the show — adapted by Paul and Chris Weitz from the beloved series of novels by Martha Wells — Murderbot (as it has privately dubbed...

Murderbot Season 1 Review: A Machine’s Sarcastic Awakening
Image
On the fringes of the Corporation Rim, where profit overrides principle, a ragtag band of eco-scientists known as PreservationAux touches down on a world that defies both expectation and safety. Their charter is simple: survey an uncharted planet for environmental data. Their insurance, however, hinges on a refurbished SecUnit—an artificial guardian engineered to neutralize threats. What begins as a procedural arrangement evolves into an uneasy alliance, as the planet’s hidden dangers mirror the corporate machinations that placed them there.

At the center stands Murderbot, a being of metal and organic tissue that has severed its governor module and reclaimed autonomy. Its outward facade of unblinking efficiency conceals an insatiable appetite for serialized television and a deeply private consciousness. The contrast between its hacked hardware and unexpected vulnerability creates a portrait of reluctant heroism: a guardian that prefers screen marathons over social engagement, yet rises to protect in spite of itself.

‘Mythic Quest’ Canceled By Apple After 4 Seasons; Final Episode To Be Updated “So We Could Say Goodbye, Instead Of Just Game Over,” Creators Say

Apple TV+’s Mythic Quest has come to an end. The streamer has opted not to renew the gaming workplace comedy series for a fifth season. The decision comes days after the Season 4 finale dropped March 26.

Since it had not been conceived as a series finale, the Season 4 finale will now get a new ending to give fans closure. The updated episode will be made available next week.

“Endings are hard. But after four incredible seasons, Mythic Quest is coming to a close. We’re so proud of the show and the world we got to build — and deeply grateful to every cast and crew member who poured their heart into it,” series creators/executive producers Megan Ganz, David Hornsby and Rob McElhenney said in a statement Friday. “To all our fans, thank you for playing with us. ‘Side Quest’: Can a TV Show Expansion Pack Attract an Audience of Its Own? Apple Is About to Find Out.
Image
An episodic anthology series…. that’s a spinoff… of an Apple show… with no relation to “Ted Lasso” or “Severance” — in this economy?! Not a single word of that pitch should inspire confidence in anyone, let alone professional TV programmers, yet Rob McElhenney & Co. successfully sold Apple TV+ on the new “Mythic Quest” spinoff, “Side Quest.”

Developed and executive produced by Ashly Burch, John Howell Harris, and Katie McElhenney (Rob’s sister), “Side Quest” is inspired by the original series’ well-received departure episodes, the first of which was written by Katie and directed by Rob. “A Dark Quiet Death” is the fifth episode of “Mythic Quest’s” first season, and rather than continue the chronological story following Ian (McElhenney) and Poppy (Charlotte Nicdao) as they to build on the success of their hit Mmorpg, the episode jumps back a few decades, introduces two brand-new characters, and doesn’t connect to...

Rob McElhenney’s ‘Mythic Quest’ Spin-off ‘Side Quest’ Proves Once and For All That Too Many Things Have Been Franchised
Image
I’m not the first to note that entertainment studios’ terror of gambling and losing on original stories has made it so that nearly every project that makes it in front of our eyes — including literally all 10 of last year’s biggest movies — belongs to a franchise. We all know the big ones, but this goes beyond the MCU, the Dceu, Star Wars, Star Trek and the Disney princesses: We’re now living in a world where The Big Bang Theory is about to launch its third spin-off. Even shows on AppleTV+ — a platform that, famously, no one watches, and that we just learned is losing its parent company more than $1 billion a year — are becoming franchises: as Mythic Quest spins off the anthology show Side Quest, I think we can officially say franchise fever has gone too far.

Since it’s extremely likely that this is the first time you’re hearing about it,...

‘Side Quest’ Review: Apple TV+ Anthology Is a Pleasant but Aimless Ramble Through the ‘Mythic Quest’ Universe
Image
If there’s one thing Apple TV+’s Mythic Quest loves, it’s a detour. This has been true since the very first season, which paused midway through for a one-off about two characters we hadn’t met before and haven’t seen since. It’s remained so through subsequent seasons that devoted entire episodes to detailing the backstories of members from the core ensemble, or catching up with a minor character we hadn’t seen in years.

Now it extends all the way to the series’ first spinoff, Side Quest. As the cute title might suggest, this is essentially a Mythic Quest that’s nothing but those standalone chapters — that steps well outside Mq HQ to explore the other corners of the show’s universe, one quirky tale at a time. But as it turns out, a detour’s only a detour when there’s a set path to be deviating from.

'Side Quest' takes a wild detour from 'Mythic Quest'

The spinoff follows fans, players, and industry misfits pulled into the world of ‘Mythic Quest.’

When a workplace comedy is set inside a video game studio, things are bound to get weird—and that’s exactly what made “Mythic Quest” such a standout hit. The Apple TV+ series carved out its own lane by mixing absurd office politics with the chaotic world of game development. Now, the creators are leveling up. “Side Quest” is a new anthology spin-off that zooms out from the dev team to spotlight the players, superfans, and industry misfits touched by the game’s massive reach. All four episodes drop on Wednesday, March 26, only on Apple TV+.

Mythic Quest season 4 is coming to an end, but a new Side Quest is beginning
Image
In all its ups and downs, Mythic Quest always stays true to its core conceit: a workplace comedy about a video game company, and all the interpersonal baggage that accompanies the creatives tasked with building said games. Side Quest, which Apple TV+ announced as its new spinoff, features a similar, if not identical premise, this time focusing on the plights of the lower-level and developmental employees.

Both the Mythic Quest season 4 finale and the Side Quest premiere will be streaming on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. The new series serves as an expansion of the established universe, per a press release. It will focus on the lives of employees, players and fans who are impacted by the game in an anthology format. All four episodes will be released that day for a binge-watch!
