Jigsaw Productions has optioned the upcoming nonfiction book Tracers in the Dark: The Global Hunt for the Crime Lords of Cryptocurrency and is developing adaptations in multiple media forms, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The Doubleday title, penned by Wired senior writer Andy Greenberg, follows a group of investigators that developed means of tracing cryptocurrency and exposed a previously hidden criminal underworld using the currency, prompting a wave of criminal cases. Jigsaw Productions, documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney’s company that is under the umbrella of Imagine Entertainment, is developing the book as a scripted adaptation, a documentary and a podcast, with creatives attached to lead those efforts.

Director Alex Winter’s Deep Web screens at The St. Louis International Film Festival Thursday, November 5th at 7:30. Winter will be in attendance and will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. Keanu Reeves has joined the anticipated new Epix Original Documentary, Deep Web, as narrator. From director Alex Winter, the film chronicles one of the most important and riveting digital crime sagas of the century - the arrest of Ross William Ulbricht, the 30-year-old entrepreneur recently convicted of being 'Dread Pirate Roberts,' creator and operator of online black market Silk Road. This is the first time Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have worked together since 1993's Freaked, which followed their co-starring roles in the successful Bill and Ted' films.
