‘28 Years Later’ Intimacy Coordinator on Covering Up Samson’s Huge Prosthetic Between Takes, Fake Butts and That Infected Birth Scene
Image
Since “28 Years Later” unleashed a new — and newly unclothed — horde of infected on cinemas, much has been said and written about prosthetic private parts. Chief among them: the scene-stealing specimen worn by Chi Lewis-Parry, the 6’ 9” former Mma fighter who plays Samson, the main berserker (or “Alpha”) variant of the infected in Danny Boyle’s long-awaited horror sequel. Just over a week after the film launched, it’s already achieved near-legendary status and become a TikTok sensation.

But it wasn’t always going to be prosthetic. When “28 Years Later” was in development, the initial presumption was that the actors and extras portraying those rampaging around not wearing much at all would be doing so in the buff.

That all changed when intimacy coordinator Vanessa Coffey heard the plans. Essentially, having a load of naked people running about wasn’t going to work for a film where one of the...

The Running Man trailer: Edgar Wright’s Stephen King adaptation reaches theatres in November
Image
Four years have gone by since it was announced that Edgar Wright was coming on board to direct a new take on the novel The Running Man, which was written by Stephen King under his Richard Bachman pen name. The Running Man was, of course, previously turned into a film back in 1987 that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and had little to do with the source material. Last year, Wright’s film entered production with Glen Powell of Top Gun: Maverick, Hit Man, and Twisters in the lead role. Filming wrapped in the early months of this year, with the movie aiming for a November 7th theatrical release – and today, the first trailer has dropped online! You can check it out in the embed above.

King’s novel has the following description: It was the ultimate death game in a nightmare future America. The year is 2025 and reality TV has grown to...

'28 Years Later' Star Says One Key Infected Moment Wasn't in the Script
Image
It's easy to tell when a long-gestating sequel is successful upon release by looking at the online discussion surrounding it. In the case of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland's 28 Years Later, there is plenty of discourse online about the themes of the film, the jarring ending, and, of course, the portrayal of the infected. Boyle's return to the world created in 28 Days Later included an evolved form of those infected with the rage virus, aptly called "Alphas." One particularly well-endowed Alpha, nicknamed Samson, has taken the internet by storm, and the actor behind the character has revealed that one crucial moment involving Samson wasn't even in the script.

In an interview with GQ, Chi Lewis-Parry, who plays Samson in the film, talked about the grueling makeup process, the prosthetic between his legs that got all of social media talking, and even the backstory he created for his character.

Jeremy Renner & Idris Elba’s 18-Year-Old Zombie Sequel Is Dethroned on Streaming by an Adam Sandler Comedy You Totally Forgot About
Image
Ahead of the hotly anticipated Happy Gilmore sequel, Happy Gilmore 2, another Adam Sandler movie is climbing the streaming charts and has overtaken a zombie horror film. As of June 28, Grown Ups, which was released in 2010, has overtaken 28 Weeks Later to claim the No. 3 spot in Hulu’s Top 10 Movies list. Per FlixPatrol, Grown Ups is now right behind its 2013 sequel, Grown Ups 2, and Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything.

The 28 Days Later sequel film, 28 Weeks Later, released in 2007, now sits in the No. 4 spot in Hulu’s Top 10. It’s not surprising that both Grown Ups and 20 Weeks Later are in the top 10. The third film in the zombie horror franchise, 28 Years Later is currently in theaters, so fans likely want to catch up on the previous title.

28 Years Later Director Danny Boyle On Nsfw Alpha Infected Samson's Distractingly Large... Prosthetic
Image
28 Years Later is now in theaters, and the long-awaited horror sequel from director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland has ignited a lot of discussion and debate among cinema-goers.

Spoilers follow.

The tonally-jarring ending with Jack O'Connell's character and his gang of Jimmy Savile lookalikes coming to Spike's (Alfie Williams) rescue has definitely emerged as the biggest talking point, but a distractingly well-endowed Alpha infected named Samson probably isn't too far behind.

Pretty much all of the infected, aka Ragers, are naked in the movie, but Samson really makes an impression as he charges around the countryside after our protagonists while letting it all hang out.

During an interview with ComicBook.com, Boyle confirmed that actor and former Mma fighter Chi Lewis-Parry was indeed wearing a prosthetic between his legs - along with the rest of his infected brethren.

“This was a salutory moment via our intimacy coordinator that...

28 Years Later Sequel Update Confirms Whether Zombie Alpha Will Return
Image
An update on 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple reveals whether the Alpha will return. The movie follows directly from 28 Years Later, which introduced smarter and stronger Infected known as Alphas. The upcoming 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple features multiple returning characters as they continue their attempts to survive the onslaught of the Infected in a quarantined Britain.

While several Infected Alphas appear in 28 Years Later, one of them takes on a more important role. The key Alpha, who Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) calls "Samson," is implied to be the father of the non-infected child that is born in the movie. While Samson poses a threat to Kelson, the doctor chooses to sedate rather than kill him.

While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, 28 Years Later director Danny Boyle shared an update on the characters who are set to return in The Bone Temple, which was helmed by Candyman's Nia DaCosta.

Young Fathers at an event for T2 Trainspotting (2017)
Young Fathers Rewrite the Apocalypse With 28 Years Later Score
Young Fathers at an event for T2 Trainspotting (2017)
Mercury Prize-winning trio Young Fathers have stepped from indie stages to the scoring booth with the release of their 24-track soundtrack for 28 Years Later, Danny Boyle’s long-gestating sequel to his genre-defining 2002 zombie thriller 28 Days Later

. The Scottish group’s brooding mix of choral chants, lo-fi beats and serrated synths marks the first time Boyle has entrusted a full feature score to artists who, as he puts it, had “never done a movie before — a huge risk, but our instinct was to go to new places”.

Boyle’s gamble reflects a wider creative pivot: while John Murphy’s adrenaline-soaked cues helped etch the original film into pop-culture memory, the director says he wanted a sound “fresh and different” to match a world three decades deeper into viral collapse. Young Fathers were already on his radar after their songs powered key moments in T2 Trainspotting and, according to the filmmaker,...

The Alpha Zombie Will Return in Next ‘28 Years Later’ Movie
Image
[This story contains spoilers from 28 Years Later.]

There were a number of memorable characters in 28 Years Later, such as the reclusive Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes), adventurous 12-year-old Spike (Alfie Williams) and the mysterious cult leader Jimmy (Jack O’Connell), who swoops in at the end.

But one character in particular captured the internet’s imagination during the film’s $30 million opening weekend. Samson, aka The Alpha Zombie, played by Chi Lewis-Parry, won hearts and minds thanks to his hulking presence, his affinity for ripping off human heads and, um, that prosthetic penis.

Filmmaker Danny Boyle tells The Hollywood Reporter there is indeed more Samson arriving in the sequel 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.

“The character you saw at the end of the first film, Jack O’Connell, he’s a major character in the second film, with Ralph Fiennes — and the big Samson guy,” Boyle says.

Sony shot 28 Years Later and The Bone Temple back-to-back, with Boyle...

28 Years Later's Naked Zombie Alpha Explained By Director
Image
28 Years Later director Danny Boyle and actor Chi Lewis-Parry break down how the film's very naked Alpha zombie was brought to life. Serving as the third installment in the 28 Days Later franchise, Boyle's new horror movie follows Spike (Aflie Williams), a young boy from an isolated island community, as he embarks on a mission to the dangerous mainland. The 28 Years Later story features a number of changes from past installments, including the introduction of massive Alpha variants, one of whom, Samson, has made quite a splash online in part due to his large penis.

During a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Boyle confirms that Samson's manhood was accomplished with the use of a prosthetic. In fact, the director reveals that all the nude zombies that appear in the film – or at least those who share the screen with Williams – are wearing prosthetics due to Williams being underage. Chi Lewis-Parry of 28 Years Later has a role in The Running Man, wants to play a Predator
Chi Lewis-Parry
Movie-goers who went to see 28 Years Later over this past weekend were introduced to an “alpha” infected / zombie character called Samson, who was played by 6-foot-8-inch actor and former Mma fighter Chi Lewis-Parry – and were also treated to the sight of Samson tearing off a human head with the spine still attached. During an interview with Variety, Lewis-Parry revealed that he has a role in the upcoming remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie The Running Man, and that one of his career goals is to join another franchise that got started with a Schwarzenegger movie, as he wants to play a Predator.

The Running Man is based on a novel that was written by Stephen King under his Richard Bachman pen name. King’s novel has the following description: It was the ultimate death game in a nightmare future America. The year is 2025 and reality TV has grown to...

Danny Boyle’s Only Request for ‘28 Years Later’ Alpha Zombie Actor? Just Two Words
Image
Danny Boyle has just landed on the screens once again with the latest addition to the 28 Days Later franchise, 28 Years Later, and the post-apocalyptic horror flick is already proving to be a critical triumph for him and co-writer Alex Garland. As the infected are back, so are the terrors and the ever-so-loud screams echoing in the theatres.

Of course, part of this success is all credited to the Alpha Zombie – who has been given the name Samson in the flick – actor, Chi Lewis-Parry, who did a beyond-spectacular job at bringing the colossal beast to life. But the surprising part? The director had only one two-word request for the actor that had him casting him in the flick!

Danny Boyle Opens Up About Surprising Solution for Nude Scenes in ’28 Years Later’
Image
Danny Boyle, the director of 28 Years Later, recently talked about an unexpected problem he faced while making the movie. At the film’s London premiere on June 18, Boyle explained that filming nude scenes was more complicated than expected because of laws protecting child actors.

The story is set 28 years after a virus outbreak, where many infected roam the world without clothes, since their clothing would have worn away over time.

Boyle said, “if you’ve been infected for a long time, the clothes would just disintegrate with the way that you behave.” But because 14-year-old Alfie Williams played an important role on set, the rules changed.

Boyle revealed, “Because there was a 12-year-old boy on set, you’re not allowed for anybody to be naked, not really naked, so they look naked, but it’s all prosthetics.” He called it a “nightmare” to learn about these restrictions after filming had started.

Danny Boyle Reveals Shocking Practice Behind ’28 Years Later’s’ Nude Scenes
Image
Danny Boyle, director of 28 Years Later, shared a surprising challenge he faced during filming. Speaking with People at the movie’s London premiere on June 18, Boyle revealed that filming scenes with nudity became tricky because of child protection laws.

The movie is set 28 years after the Rage virus outbreak, showing a world where survivors and infected roam. Naturally, Boyle expected the infected characters to appear without clothes since, “if you’ve been infected for a long time, the clothes would just disintegrate with the way that you behave.”

But the presence of 14-year-old Alfie Williams, who plays Spike, forced the crew to change their approach.

Boyle explained, “Because there was a 12-year-old boy on set, you’re not allowed for anybody to be naked, not really naked, so they look naked, but it’s all prosthetics.” He described this discovery as a “nightmare” since they were unaware of the rule beforehand.

‘28 Years Later’ Train Scene Gave Alpha Zombie Actor More Injuries Than His Mma Career
Image
The recently released movie, 28 Years Later isn’t just a sequel—it’s a full-throttle return to the brutal, blood-soaked, and primitive world that Danny Boyle and Alex Garland unleashed more than two decades ago. And at the heart of this terrifying new chapter is the Alpha Infected, played with intensity by the Mma fighter-turned-actor Chi Lewis-Parry.

As the towering leader of the rage-fueled infected, Chi Lewis-Parry’s character brings a chilling new level of menace to the franchise. But turns out, stepping into the Alpha’s shoes came at a cost. Therefore, in a chat with Variety, Lewis-Parry revealed how the film’s punishing train sequence left him with more bruises than his entire undefeated Mma career ever did.

I suppose you could don him as the “King of the Infected,” especially how I played him. There are things that didn’t make the cut, but he’s...

The Alpha Zombie Speaks: ‘28 Years Later’ Star Chi Lewis-Parry on Samson’s Huge Prosthetic, Ripping Out Spines and His Scary Injury on the Train
Image
Danny Boyle’s terrifying zombies — sorry, the infected — are back, and with them, a truly enormous and terrifying specimen.

“28 Years Later” has proved a critical triumph for the director and co-writer Alex Garland, hailed for reviving yet radically updating their original genre-redefining horror hit from 2002. Among the newly evolved additions to the franchise are the so-called Alphas, massive berserker variants of the infected for whom the rage virus has had, over the last almost three decades, a steroid-like effect. The most fearsome and brutal of all those roaming the quarantined wasteland that was the U.K., the Alphas’ signature move is to rip off human heads with the spine still attached and swing them around like a flail.

One such Alpha — given the name Samson in the film — is a colossus, described to Variety as the “king of the infected” by Chi Lewis-Parry, the 6-foot-8-inch actor and former Mma fighter who plays him.

28 Years Later's Most Shocking Scene Changes The Zombie Movie Series Forever
Image
Spoilers ahead for "28 Years Later."

There are a lot of gamechangers in "28 Years Later," the long-awaited third film in the "28 Days Later" franchise. There's the Jimmy Savile-inspired ninjas in the final scene, the implication of ravens being at least partially in tune with some of the infected, and of course that giant zombie penis that was flopping around all movie. I'm not sure why that one particular infected man had to be hung, but I suppose that's why I'm a movie critic and Danny Boyle's a movie director.

The actual craziest scene, however, is one that happens halfway through the film. Spike (Alfie Williams) and his mother Isla (Jodie Comer) come across a pregnant infected woman in labor. In an act both brave and foolish, Isla decides to help the infected woman give birth. Not only is the baby perfectly healthy, but the infected woman...

‘28 Years Later’: The Massively Hung Alpha Serves a Major Purpose After Sequel’s Big Twist
Image
Spoiler Alert !!!28 Years Later spoiler: n*dity explored!

Just like 28 Days Later, the 2002 collaboration between director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland, even in 28 Years Later, the duo bring back the terrifying rage-infected zombies. But guess what? This time, there’s more—Boyle and Garland take things to a whole new, primal level. The film comes with haunting visuals of a forest of bones, empty gas stations, and, yes, a zombie with a shockingly large phallus.

While it might sound like a strange detail, this well-endowed alpha infected isn’t just there for shock value. His n*dity, and that of the other infected, signal something deeper: the total collapse of civilization and a return to raw, animalistic survival. And when the big twist hits, this alpha’s physical dominance suddenly takes on a whole new, disturbing meaning.

The alpha’s phallocentric dominance in 28 Years Later serves as a big...

Meet the New Zombies of ’28 Years Later’: Inside the Massive Alphas, Slow-Lows, and an Unexplained Baby
Image
[Editor’s note: The following article contains major spoilers for “28 Years Later,” which is in theaters now.]

In “28 Years Later,” the aptly named sequel that comes 28 years after the rage virus ravaged England in “28 Days Later,” we find the lucky humans who survived now in a throwback communal life centered on farming, hunting, tools, customs, and gender roles ripped from a century ago. While on this week’s episode of IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit podcast (in full below), director Danny Boyle discussed the contradiction between these humans, protected from the zombie-like infected by life on an island, and the rage virus itself.

“They’ve learned how to survive, but they haven’t really evolved. They’ve kind of regressed, [going] back to a 1950s-type subsistence living,” Boyle said on the podcast. “ The virus, though, has evolved more creatively.”

The virus has mutated substantially on the mainland, on the other side of the causeway connecting the humans’ new island home.

Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes Talk Danny Boyle’s Genius at ’28 Years Later’ World Premiere: “It’s Horror, but I Was Struck by How Moved I Was”
Image
London’s Leicester Square was a no-go zone Wednesday night as the cast and crew of Danny Boyle’s zombie sequel 28 Years Later descended on the Odeon Luxe theater.

Biohazard warnings surrounded fans and guests at the central London cinema. Among the talent talking to press on the blood-stained carpet was the film’s stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes and young newcomer Alfie Williams, as well as director Boyle and writer Alex Garland.

It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected.

A small community living off the coast of Northumbria, Britain, is connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. Tough-guy Jamie (Taylor-Johnson) has raised his 12-year-old son, Spike (Williams) with the mettle to send an arrow through an infected’s neck if needs be.

Danny Boyle Sets the Record Straight on Cillian Murphy’s Role in the ‘28 Years Later’ Trilogy
Image
It’s barely been 24 hours since Danny Boyle cast a shadow of uncertainty over Cillian Murphy’s potential status in 28 Years Later, but now the director has delivered a much more clear update on his role in the film. 28 Days Later was one of Cillian Murphy’s earliest roles, and since it was announced that a legacy sequel to the film was in the works, fans have been curious about whether he’ll have a role to play. It’s also been confirmed that 28 Years Later will be the first installment in a new trilogy, and we now know definitively when he will show up. During a recent interview with IGN, Boyle confirmed that Murphy will not star in 28 Years Later, but will have a role in its sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple:

28 Years Later Director Teases New 'Mutations' of the Evolving Rage Virus
Image
28 Years Laterdirector Danny Boyle explains just how much the infected have changed in the past two decades.

Speaking to IGN, Boyle explained that "There have been evolutions [of the infected] because we didn't want to just stand still with them," referring to the new versions of the franchise's classic rage zombies (which are still-living humans infected with a rage inducing virus) that fans can look forward to seeing when 28 Years Later arrives in theaters. "There has been kind of mutations that have developed, if you like."

Boyle also explained how the film's extra-wide 2.76:1 aspect ratio was utilized to help increase the tension in the film by giving the infected even more room on the screen to hide away in. "You hope that it gives a sense of unease really ... that they could be anywhere, because we know they move very fast," Boyle said. "Apart from these new ones, the 'slow-lows' which of course move very slowly,...

A new image from 28 Years Later teases a tense scene from the 2025 horror movie. The project is the third installment in the post-apocalyptic franchise, which takes place in an England that has been ravaged by the Rage virus, which transforms people into mindless, zombielike killers. The upcoming 28 Years Later, which reteams original director Danny Boyle with original screenwriter Alex Garland, follows Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and his 12-year-old son Spike (Alfie Williams) exploring the world outside of their isolated tidal island home of Lindisfarne, Northumberland and finding countless untold horrors on the mainland.

ScreenRant can now share an exclusive first-look image from 28 Years Laterahead of the movie's theatrical premiere on June 20. The image shows Spike, his mother Isla (Jodie Comer), and his newborn sister being guided across a river by hardscrabble survivor Dr.

"I Still Love Blowing Shit Up": Danny Boyle Debuts Explosive '28 Years Later' Trailer at CinemaCon
Image
Danny Boyle and Nia DaCosta reminded the audience at CinemaCon’s opening night that what is dead can never die with fresh looks at the upcoming films, 28 Years Later and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. First, Boyle spoke to the crowd filling the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, cracking jokes about the years he’s spent in the post-apocalyptic world. “I still love blowing shit up,” the filmmaker said to the attendees, before offering a brand-new, never-before-seen trailer for the feature.

Here’s a description of what we saw:

“Our scene opens with a group of military troops searching a room with their headlamps on before they’re jumped by zombies. The infected are everywhere, except for an island filled with the living. However, they can travel to the mainland, which is where the action picks up. We see mountains of skulls, fields of yellow flowers, and hoards of...

’28 Years Later’ Unveils Scary CinemaCon Footage With Pissed, Starving and Significantly Older Zombies
Image
Turns out zombies don’t mellow with age.

Sony Pictures unleashed a new look at Danny Boyle’s “28 Years Later” – the threequel to the director’s groundbreaking 2002 outbreak film – at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Monday night.

The franchise refresh picks up, well, 28 years after the terrifying Rage virus broke out across the globe (pandemics now being shorthand for worldwide audiences). Man has found a way to survive amongst the flesh-eating zombies, on a remote English island connected to the mainland. It’s guarded, obviously, within in an inch of all lives involved.

“I still love an apocalypse,” Boyle said from the stage. “I love killing the infected. I still love blowing shit up. That’s how my agent describes my best stuff.”

He wasn’t kidding. Boyle shared a full second trailer exclusively with the exhibitors, which significantly ratchets up the terror from a teaser shared earlier this year.

Gladiator 2 Passes New Box Office Milestone To Enter Highest-Grossing R-Rated Movies List
Image
Gladiator II has just crossed a new box office milestone, entering the list of the top-grossing R-rated movies ever. Directed by Ridley Scott, the sword-and-sandal epic serves as a sequel to 2000's Gladiator, following Lucius (Paul Mescal) as he becomes a hero of the Colosseum. Gladiator 2 reviews have been generally positive from critics since the movie's release last November, and the film, which also stars Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal, became available on VOD starting December 24 while remaining available in theaters.

According to new data from The Numbers, Gladiator 2 has now grossed a total of $454 million worldwide, comprising $171 million domestic and $282 million from overseas territories. This means the sequel is now among the top 30 highest-grossing R-rated movies of all time, currently occupying 29th place behind 300 (2007).

'I'm Going to Warn You, I Will Walk': Ridley Scott Explains Why His Biopic for Iconic Musical Group Stalled
Image
Gladiator II helmer Ridley Scott was supposed to be starting work on a movie about the Bee Gees around this time. However, the famous filmmaker has confirmed that he's no longer attached to the project.

Per GQ, Scott addressed what happened with his Bee Gees movie. It was previously reported in 2024 that he was set to direct a film based on the iconic musical group formed in the late 1950s by siblings Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. Reportedly, the project was planned to start production with Ridley at the helm in early 2025. However, as Scott has now shared, he walked away from the biopic after Paramount Pictures "changed the goalposts." He admitted that the deal he was wanting for the film was "expensive," but in his own colorful way, insisted that having him on board would have been worth it.

'Kraven the Hunter' Concept Art Teases Cut Venom Sequence
Image
Kraven the Hunter was the final nail in the coffin for Sony's mistitled Spider-Man Shared Universe (Ssu). It was a box office and critical disappointment, performing worse than the low bar previously set by Morbius and Madame Web, earning less at the box office than either film. The Aaron Taylor-Johnson-led movie turned the Spider-Man villain into another anti-hero, and instead of pitting him against the webhead, the movie opted for a lackluster showdown with The Rhino and The Foreigner. It appears at one point that a more exciting Kraven the Hunter project was teased, one that would have tied the shared universe with the Venom movies.

Concept artist Jules Darriulat shared some work he did on Kraven the Hunter for a planned sequence that would have featured symbiotes. Darriulat, who works for the Framestore art department, wrote in the caption, "Here's an environment shot that was done for a canceled sequence from Kraven.

Kraven The Hunter Crosses Over With Venom In Scrapped Concept Art From The Marvel Movie

Newly released concept art showcases a scrapped sequence from Kraven the Hunter that would have tied in with the Venom trilogy. Initially, Kraven the Hunter was set to debut before Venom: The Last Dance, which may have partially contributed to the scene being removed from the final cut of the film.

Shared to ArtStation by Jules Darriulat, the image shows dead symbiotes on a desolate landscape. Though the details of the sequence are unknown, it appears to be the site of a battle on an alien planet. The artist captioned the picture: "Here's an environment shot done for a canceled sequence from Kraven the Hunter. [It] was a lot of fun working on this sequence with the Framestore's art department team!"

Kraven the Hunter Seemingly Set for Imminent Digital Release
Image
Kraven the Hunter keeps failing in its hunt to spark significant interest in the ill-fated Sony Spider-Man Universe. Amid the film's critical and commercial struggles, it appears Sony is ready to release it digitally sooner than anticipated.

According to When to Stream, Kraven the Hunter will premiere digitally and via premium video-on-demand (PVOD) on Jan. 14. Though Sony Pictures has yet to announce when the film's digital debut will be and doesn't usually rush its theatrical releases to digital/streaming, the film's poor commercial performance may have led to the studio changing course. The Ssu entry is currently listed at $19.99 to rent and $24.99 to purchase on Prime Video, allowing Sony to recoup money through digital sales.

Sony's Most Disappointing Spider-Man Universe Movies, Ranked
Image
The following contains spoilers for Kraven the Hunter, now playing in theaters, as well as other Sony superhero movies.

It wasn't hard to predict the Sony Spider-Man Universe wouldn't make a big splash in the long run. Many were optimistic and hopeful, because the more comic book movies out there, the better. But without Spider-Man as the linchpin, these superhero movies and villain origins lacked the anchor needed to build momentum and resonance.

Peter Parker is the glue that webs all of these largely obscure characters together in the source material. Additionally, it's been reported that Kraven the Hunter is the final entry of this shared universe for the time being, and it's not hard to see why. The critics aren't pleased, and audience members aren't seeing anything worthwhile. But out of Sony's entire output, which movies are the bigger disappointments?

Speaking with W Magazine, Mescal revealed he fibbed when he tried out for and eventually landed his role in Normal People, claiming he could drive despite not owning a driver's license. Mescal recalled his white lie to producers before signing the paperwork to join the Irish series when asked if he had to exaggerate about specific skills to land a part. "I said I could drive for Normal People, and I could not drive. We'd signed the paperwork, I'd gotten the part, and then I'd forgotten about doing my driver's license. 'Kraven the Hunter' Star Alessandro Nivola Is Unsure Why the Spider-Man Movie Flopped
Image
The Sony Spider-Man Villain-verse, or just villain-verse, or just Spider-verse, or that one with Madame Web in it (they never did settle on a proper name), has officially come to a close. We wish we could say it went out with a bang, but the recently released Kraven the Hunter helped to define the franchise as the biggest so-bad-it's-good cinematic universe of all-time. The film received terrible reviews from critics and audiences, who had already lost hope after the first trailers were released. Alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular anti-hero, the film also stars Alessandro Nivola as the Rhino, the film's actual villain. But, the actor himself isn't aware of the extreme negative backlash surrounding the movie, and is struggling to come up with a reason as to why it flopped.

'My Performance Was Praised': Kraven the Hunter's Rhino Actor Reacts to Disastrous Reception
Image
Kraven the Hunter did not have the reception that Sony Pictures had been hoping for, to say the least. Alessandro Nivola, who played the movie's incarnation of Rhino, has opened up about how the film performed.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Nissola suggested that the issue with Kraven the Hunter that may have contributed to its downfall was perhaps too many people involved with the project behind the scenes. From his own vantage point, the actor had a great time working on the film, so much so that it never occurred to him that there were going to be problems. He also said he didn't check out many reviews about the movie personally, though he'd learned about how a lot of them were giving praise to his performance in the film, even if the reviews were otherwise very negative.

Ridley Scott Apologizes for Saying Malta is Not a Destination He Would Go on Holiday
Image
Ridley Scott is not someone who minces his words, and in the last week he has had to make amends after making some brutal, “humorous” comments at the expense of the country of Malta, where he filmed a large portion of Gladiator II and his previous epic, Napoleon. Despite his apparent love of filming in Malta – where he claims back a healthy tax rebate - Scott said during an interview promoting Gladiator II that he “wouldn’t advise going there on holiday.” This did not go down well with many people on the Mediterranean island.

During the conversation between Scott and fellow filmmaker Christopher Nolan, which was shared on YouTube by Paramount Pictures, Scott was asked about the filming of Gladiator II. His full comment was:

Though many regard Gladiator II as a worthy and engaging sequel to its highly-regarded predecessor, one Oscar-winning director claims the film does not entertain him. Legendary filmmaker Oliver Stone believes the Gladiator follow-up didn't satisfy his appetite, branding Ridley Scott's blockbuster as "empty calories" and nothing more.

During an interview on the Pbd podcast, Stone was asked his thoughts about the Gladiator sequel. Though the three-time Academy Award winner conceded Gladiator II was "watchable" and praised Scott for his work on the film, he claims the historical epic felt "commercial" and lacked emotional resonance. "It’s certainly watchable. It’s good, well-made, usual tight Ridley film, but I didn’t care about the people. I wasn’t invested. The first one was a classic. The second one is empty calories, like a commercial product," the Natural Born Killers director said.

Gladiator 2 Box Office Finally Passes Major Global Milestone (But Is It Enough To Be Profitable?)

Gladiator II has just passed a major box office milestone as the sequel continues to play in theaters. Directed by Ridley Scott, the long-awaited sequel picks up the story 15 years after the end of the original Gladiator, following Paul Mescal's Lucius as he becomes a hero of the Colosseum. Gladiator 2 got off to a strong start at the box office on November 22, opening with $55 million, but the film's large budget of about $240 million makes its bar for success quite high.

Box Office Mojo now reveals that Gladiator 2 has now crossed $400 million worldwide. This $400 million total comprises $147 million domestic and $252 million internationally. Considering the movie's budget, however, it may still have a ways to go before it breaks even. The sequel is also $65 million away from the original Gladiator's box office haul.
