Star Trek: Tng was one of the biggest hits for the franchise. Due to the spinoff show, a whole new generation of fans got introduced to the Federation, the Enterprise, and an interstellar adventure of a lifetime. While the futuristic show explored many deep themes, sometimes the episodes were just light-hearted and fun.
One such episode was the season 4 one ‘QPid’, which saw John de Lancie’s Q play cupid to Sir Patrick Stewart’s Captain Picard and his romance with Vash. The episode sees Q transport the entire bridge crew and Vash to a Robin Hood-themed forest. The costumes are incredibly done and give a fun edge to the otherwise militaristic bridge crew.

The great New Zealand-born actor Clive Revill has passed away at the age of 94. He died in Sherman Oaks, California, having succumbed to dementia on March 11. The sad news was confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter by his daughter, Kate Selsby Revill-Oglesby. Revill's storied career encompassed performances on the stage, silver screen, and television, and spanned from Shakespeare to horror and Star Trek to Star Wars, and included many voice-acting credits.
Revill, who would have turned 95 on April 18, entered the Star Trek universe in 1991, when he guest starred as Sir Guy of Gisbourne in the fourth-season Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Qpid.” The character seeks to marry Maid Marian/Vash (Jennifer Hetrick) and ultimately clashes with Robin Hood/Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his Merry Men, a/k/a Dr. Crusher (Gates McFadden), Worf (Michael Dorn), Data (Brent Spiner), Riker (Jonathan Frakes), and Troi (Marina Sirtis).

To be a fan of The X-Filesmeans accepting the most difficult truth:the universe created by Chris Carter often suffered from incomplete, unsatisfying or downright confusing endings. Even with more than its share of flawless episodesthe show was neither perfect nor beyond critique.
Many great storylines in The X-Files went nowhere, either forgotten by storytellers or used so often that the "answers" are more confusing than the original question. Truth is a matter of perspective in this saga, but there are, arguably, examples of how, even when the show missed the target, it still captured fans' imaginations.

Over the past 50 years, there's been no shortage of excellent action anime for people to watch. These iconic titles have stood the test of time in several ways. They are known for the great animation, choreography, and fight scenes on display. A fantastic fight from a currently airing anime feels like nothing compared to the astounding quality these titles maintain.
The best action anime are usually the most consistent. Fight scenes may be one thing, but without an interesting story or characters to back them up, they don't hit nearly as hard. Fortunately, these examples provide plenty of substance to balance their impressive style. It's unclear what the anime landscape would look like now without these series.

In order to be relatable to their target audience, main characters in shonen anime often hit the same age group. The lead character is often between 8-16, even if it doesn't always make sense for the adventure they're going on. For older fans, or even younger fans looking for a change, seeing the same aged characters can get a little boring.
However, not all shonen anime characters are just pre-teens and teenagers. Some protagonists are actually allowed to be older to tell different stories, with their creators making them centuries or even millennia old. It's hard not to wonder who are some of the oldest main characters in shonen anime.

It says a lot about the human condition, or at least the human ego, that the majority of our post-apocalyptic stories are about people who survive the apocalypse and become way more kickass. As opposed to, say, stories about the cockroaches who live on after we destroy ourselves, which is probably a more plausible scenario. The apocalypse looks like a pretty bad time in movies like “Fury Road” and “The Matrix” but the post-apocalypse is going to be pretty darned cool if those movies are any indication. At least that’s what Hollywood is selling.
Paul W.S. Anderson is no stranger to the post-apocalyptic subgenre. He’s made multiple “Resident Evil” films set in the aftermath of a zombie outbreak. Those films starred action hero Milla Jovovich as a superpowered post-apocalyptic warrior named Alice. But that was then and this is now, so he’s mixing it up a little with “In the Lost Lands.

In anime, characters will often choose to spare their enemies. Either out of a sense of morality or even justice, sparing one's enemies is heroic and honorable. However, not all characters deserve mercy, especially villains. Mercy is a courtesy few anime characters receive and not everyone who is shown mercy will pay that kindness back to the hero.
Shōnen anime often makes mercy a necessity for heroes to follow as a strict rule to not appear evil or complex. Few villains return such kindness and will often make mercy feel like regret to such characters instead of an act of compassion. While not every form of mercy is deserved, certain characters in anime have discovered the hard way that sparing one's enemies or even friends can result with devastating consequences.

For the most part, anime characters are written to be exciting in battle yet are clearly fallible, having clear weaknesses their enemies might take advantage of. That creates proper tension and suspense in a fight, most of all in battle shonen anime, but some characters simply broke all the rules to become nigh-invulnerable. They pulled that off either by being strong enough to defeat any other opponent first, or by having special traits making them impossible to properly kill.
Interestingly, the list of near-invincible anime characters includes both heroes and villains, which calls for unique tricks in the writing for any anime. An invincible villain boosts the tension through the roof as the heroes struggle to find a way to beat the unbeatable, while invincible heroes aren't relatable on a physical level, so their personal arc is about something else entirely.

The best Superman stories are the ones that nail the love story of Clark Kent and Lois Lane. On that front, the ongoing animated series "My Adventures with Superman" succeeds and soars like Kal-El himself. This Clark (Jack Quaid) and Lois (Alice Lee) are adorable apart and even more so when they're together.
In "My Adventures," Clark's bumbling nerd persona isn't just an act to divert suspicion from him being Superman, he really is that nervous around Lois. Lois is reimagined as not yet a master reporter, but merely a Daily Planet intern who wants to be one. She's less sardonic, more scrappy and ambitious, but still plenty clever. They've experienced some relationship trouble so far (between Lois's trust issues and Clark's fears of rejection), but it never feels artificial and they always come back together.
Though an American production, "My Adventures with Superman" often feels like the Man of Steel...

I discovered cosplay back in 2002 when I saw a Vash the Stampede cosplayer from Trigun walking down the street toward Anime Central. Over the years I’ve watched it grow into something truly incredible. Many cosplayers will tell you that doing it is more than just embodying their favorite anime characters (or whatever form of media they’re a fan of). For many, cosplay is a way to express themselves and connect with others, and there’s no better example of this than #28DaysOfBlackCosplay. Created by Chaka Ayana Cumberbatch and taking place during Black History Month, what started as a desire to highlight Black cosplayers has turned into a decade-long celebration that continues to uplift the community. In honor of this monumental movement hitting its tenth anniversary, I had the chance to speak with Cumberbatch about her cosplay origin story, what #28DaysOfBlackCosplay means to her and how cosplay skills come...

Judging an anime series isn't always about the quality of its writing or animation. Often, fans engage in popularity contests to decide which anime characters are the best. Intriguing, well-designed characters can define the story, turning a mediocre anime series into a truly unforgettable one with their sheer star power. Some of the most loved anime characters—from My Hero Academia to Naruto to One Piece—perfectly personify the best parts of their series, while others are masters of stealing the spotlight.
The very best anime characters tend to have that "it" factor that makes them the most popular, such as a combination of cool dialogue, memorable scenes, or even an interesting philosophy and worldview. Every anime fan will have their favorites, but a large handful of characters have still risen to the top among the community.

Why Was The Ending Of Vikas Bahl’s Madhavan & Ajay Devgn Starrer Shaitaan Different From Vash? ( Photo Credit – Facebook )

Trigun Stampede stunned anime viewers with its brilliant fluidity thanks to Orange Co., Ltd.'s sharp and refined use of 3D CG animation, but there are inevitable comparisons to the 1998 Madhouse original. Thanks to a recent interview with Anime News Network, director Kenji Muto sheds some light on his thought process for fans seeing the anime after viewing the original Trigun. While the series readies up for the release of Trigun Stargaze, the interview is a fascinating glimpse into the motivations behind Orange's adaptation.

Best known for playing Lt. Commander Worf in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, actor Michael Dorn also directed four episodes of Star Trek. Dorn is one of many Star Trek: DS9 actors who became directors. Science fiction and anime have traversed a rich history together, with many phenomenal series like Steins; Gate, Dandadan and Dr. Stone continuing a long tradition of exploring elements of science via animation, thanks to Astro Boys storied success back in 1963. While todays audiences might be more familiar with current ongoing series, some old school anime from the 1990s and the early 2000s still hold up as culturally relevant offerings for viewers.

Before Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Armin Shimerman and Max Grodnchik made their franchise debuts as other Ferengi characters in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Shimerman and Grodnchik are most famous for playing the sibling duo Quark and Rom on Deep Space Nine. Quark was part of DS9's main cast of characters, appearing in almost every episode, while Rom was a recurring character who first appeared in the pilot episode "Emissary." Together with Rom's son, Nog (Aron Eisenberg), the trio made up the bulk of Ferengi representation on DS9.
As the first Ferengi main characters on any Star Trek TV show, Quark and Rom expanded Star Trek's Ferengi history and lore, making the species more sympathetic and complex. This was no small feat, as when the Ferengi were created for Star Trek: Tng, they were meant to be the series' main villains. Despite some of the Ferengi's less likable qualities,...

Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) may be one of Star Trek's most serious captains, but this Star Trek: The Next Generation episode proved Patrick Stewart could be incredibly funny as well. Patrick Stewart has been open about how he could be a bit too severe on set during Tng season 1. Just as it took Stewart himself time to adjust to the sometimes silly antics of Tng's other cast members, it took Captain Picard time to lighten up as well.
Since Star Trek: The Original Series, the franchise has incorporated humorous elements into its stories, from banter between characters to entire comedic episodes. Not only did Star Trek: The Next Generation hit its stride by the show's third season, but the actors also appeared more comfortable in their roles. Patrick Stewart never failed to deliver a solid performance as Captain Picard, but his comedy chops were not obviously apparent until this late Tng season 3 episode.

Full of epic action and striking style, the iconic Trigun franchise is a legendary anime series where guns are almost always a-blazin'. Now, dedicated fans with spare water on their hands can recreate these iconic action sequences, albeit in a much less serious way.

While they certainly look like dashing and dangerous weapons, they're actually far wetter than they would appear. Perfect for collectors or those seeking to take down a bounty with H20, these water guns are some of the coolest anime collectibles around, and a solid choice for beating the summer heat in style.

The 1990s was a great time for anime. So many classic series and movies were released in the '90s, and they set the tone for anime in their genre to follow. Some '90s anime characters may be dated, but there are many classic characters that are so well-written that they still hold up today.
These characters have dynamic personalities with justified flaws and compelling talents. Their character arcs have nuance and plenty of growth. Sometimes, even flaws in a series' story are easy to ignore when the characters are so lovable. '90s anime characters also tend to have great fashion and design that are synonymous with the era.

Most complicated anime heroes come from varied genres, showcasing different layers and appealing to diverse audiences. Characters like Lelouch, Hagu, and Eren excel at engaging audiences with multifaceted traits and gripping story arcs. Anime heroes like Vash, Guts, and Yuuri resonate by navigating complex themes, relationships, and personal growth.
Anime has become so much more than a niche animation format but a showcase for increasingly compelling storytelling and memorable, complicated heroes at the center of it. While some anime get away with protagonists having predictable goals and ambitions, like saving the world or even one-dimensional personalities, watercooler discussions invariably focus on more layered examples. After all, anime is like any other medium in pop culture and art in how much its characters and themes are intended to resonate with the audiences.
The most complicated anime heroes occupy a broad media spectrum, including high-concept yet cerebral storylines and low-concept, style-and-character-driven affairs.

It’s exciting to watch some theatrical releases again on different Ott platforms. However, some movies make you wait longer than expected to arrive on a streaming platform. In the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Captain's Holiday", Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) was forced to take a vacation on the sexed-up beach resort planet of Risa where his impishly playful crew hoped he would have a drink, get laid, and return to the job less stern and more relaxed. Picard, a studious and intellectual fellow, would have been more content drinking tea and reading James Joyce's "Ulysses" in a dark room.
Luckily, Risa proves to be more exciting than Picard realized. He had no interest in beach shenanigans, but he did fall into the company of the utterly dazzling Indiana-Jone-type adventurer Vash (Jennifer Hetrick), a roguish tomb raider. Picard and Vash end up having to protect a rare, powerful artifact from time-traveling Vorgons, and fall in lust as a result. Picard returns to the Enterprise more relaxed and with a new romantic interest in the back of his mind.

I'm not blowing any minds by saying that "Avatar: The Last Airbender" took a lot of influence from anime. The characters are drawn in a way that they'd look right at home in an anime, but sometimes, the series' influences manifested more specifically. For instance, the season 1 spirit Hei Bai was inspired by the monstrous Angels from the classic mecha anime "Neon Genesis Evangelion." Jet, the anti-heroic leader of the Freedom Fighters, is likewise modeled on Spike Spiegel from "Cowboy Bebop" (and they share similar "unclear" death scenes). Since "Avatar" aired on Nickelodeon, Jet chews on a wheat thread instead of cigarettes like Spike.
These anime allusions aren't limited to supporting characters, either. In the season 3 episode "Nightmares and Daydreams," our hero — Avatar Aang — imagines himself facing the worst of the worst — Fire Lord Ozai. Neither hero nor villain are wearing their usual threads and across the dreams, they change appearance.

Jean-Luc Picard's love life is fraught with commitment issues, leading to broken promises and failed romances on the starship Enterprise. Despite the bond between Picard and Dr. Crusher, past relationships like Vash, Eline, and Anij highlight Picard's inability to commit fully. Shaitaan Box Office Day 1 Advance Booking Update (3 More Days To Go) (Photo Credit – IMDb)
After Bholaa, Ajay Devgn is looking for a bounce back, so all eyes are set on how his Shaitaan turns out to be. Also featuring R Madhavan in the main role, the film has managed to lift up its pre-release buzz due to a well-cut trailer. But has it managed to translate that buzz in the advance booking at the Indian box office? Let’s find out what the day 1 report suggests!
Before coming with Bholaa, Ajay tasted a blockbuster success with Drishyam 2, which performed much beyond expectations. Just like Bholaa, even the Drishyam sequel was a remake, but the main advantage in the latter’s case was that the Hindi dubbed version was never done. So, a majority of the audience in the Hindi belt didn’t see the Malayalam sequel led by Mohanlal.

Vash, an archaeologist with a shady past, stirred intrigue with Captain Picard and reappeared on Deep Space Nine. Actress Jennifer Hetrick, who played Vash, had a real-life romance with Patrick Stewart. Star Trek: Lower Decks introduced its own version of Vash in archaeologist Petra Aberdeen.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) had a few love interests throughout Star Trek: The Next Generation, but Jennifer Hetrick's Vash was one of the most memorable. Unlike Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner), Picard did not regularly go on away missions, and he certainly did not regularly romance alien women. Picard spent much of his free time aboard the USS Enterprise-d, reading his favorite books and sipping Earl Grey tea. For the most part, Jean-Luc kept his friends at arm's length, and he allowed very few people into his heart.

Armin Shimerman, who played Quark on DS9, found it insulting that Q compared the show to Tng and made disparaging remarks about the characters. Shimerman believes that DS9 always lived in the shadow of Tng and was afraid of coming out lacking when compared between the two shows. The addition of Q's speeches in the script, comparing DS9 to Tng, was seen by Shimerman as a deliberate attempt to disparage the show and its characters.

Trigun Stampede helped kick off 2023 on a strong note as it trampled the competition to become one of the year's most successful new anime. The most recent adaptation of Yasuhiro Nightow’s classic space western series is a daring reinvention. Its creators take cues from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in attempts to give a modern twist to the lifelong moral conflict between twin brothers, Vash and Knives. It's a gamble that pays off and it brings the '90s-era cult classic to a new generation of fans who have enthusiastically embraced its quirky characters and emotional core. Trigun Stampede is technically a success when it comes to the size of the audience that it reached and its critical acclaim. However, purely on a level of quality, there are a few areas when Trigun Stampede falls short and doesn't quite hit the bullseye.
That’s not to say that these are fatal flaws.

Throughout "Star Trek," Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) has engaged in precious few romances. Early in "Star Trek: The Next Generation," he reunited with an old flame (Michelle Phillips) in the episode "We'll Always Have Paris," and it was implied that he had a fling years earlier with a lawyer (Amanda McBroom) in "The Measure of a Man," but those relationships concluded before "Next Generation" began. Of course, Picard had a wild dalliance with Vash (Jennifer Hetrick) in "Captain's Holiday," lived out a life with his imagined wife (Margot Rose) in "The Inner Light," had a time-travel fling with a classmate (J.C. Brandy) in "Tapestry," and had a very palpable romance with Lieutenant Commander Nella Darren (Wendy Hughes) in "Lessons."
Oh yes, and Picard was very clearly attracted to Lwaxana Troi (Majel Barrett), and throughout "Next Generation," Picard and Dr. Crusher (Gates McFadden) shared a professional regard through a definite romantic undercurrent.

2023 was a year of experimentation for anime, with many new series forging their own path and not relying on tried and true formulas. Trigun Stampede excelled in capturing the charm of the original story and took its iconic characters on an exciting journey of self-discovery. One Piece confirmed why it's the flag bearer of the entire industry. The Apothecary Diaries and Oshi no Ko offered fresh takes on familiar genres, with the former being a mystery series and the latter exploring the dark side of the idol industry.

Lwaxana Troi succeeded where Q failed in her first appearance on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The early crossovers between Deep Space Nine and The Next Generation set the stage for future ambitious crossovers. The episode "The Forsaken" showcased Lwaxana Troi's role in DS9 and her relationship with Constable Odo.
In her first of three Star Trek: Deep Space Nine appearances, Lwaxana Troi (Majel Barrett) succeeded where fellow Star Trek: The Next Generation guest star Q (John de Lancie) failed. As the first of Star Trek's 90s spinoffs, there were multiple crossovers between Deep Space Nine and Tng in the spinoff show's early years. Dr. Julian Bashir (Alexander Siddig) assisted Lt. Commander Data (Brent Spiner) in solving the mystery of his dreams in the Tng episode "Birthright", while the Duras sisters played a Bajoran terrorist and the Cardassian government against each other in DS9's "Past Prologue."

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's first season unfairly maligned despite great moments and innovations, establishing its unique character-focused approach. DS9 expanded on the Ferengi's place in the franchise, crafting a compelling family dynamic through Quark and exploring Ferengi culture and society. Deep Space Nine tackled the consequences of Starfleet's actions and inaction, delving into the aftermath of the Cardassian occupation of Bajor and the complex Bajoran society.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is one of the most acclaimed series in the Star Trek franchise, but season 1 is unfairly maligned despite its great moments and innovations. Set aboard a space station, and fronted by Commander Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks), DS9 was conceived as something very different from Star Trek: The Next Generation. While DS9 certainly has issues finding its voice in the first season, all the elements that would make it unique are in place from the start. DS9's...

Many of the strongest anime characters have elemental powers, such as control over fire or water, but one of the most underrated of these is the power over plants. The traditional Japanese elements are earth, water, fire, wind, and void, all of which are derived from Buddhist beliefs about the natural world. The qualities associated with each element originally applied to styles of martial arts and came to extend to representations of superpowered characters’ personalities as well. Once viewers know what they are looking for, they will see it in many media including plenty of the best shounen anime.
Characters with powers over earth are often depicted as determined, highly stable, and relying heavily on physical power to achieve their goals. Those with more refined powers over plant life usually have softer, kinder personalities and often a strong connection to nature. The best characters of this sort not only use their powers creatively,...
