Veteran director Tom Tykwer sends a magical Syrian cleaner into a bohemian yet unhappy family, bringing with her a flashing-light treatment for depression
Here is a weirdly incoherent and very long aria of semi-comic dismay from white-liberal Europe, and from a Germany whose bold “Wir schaffen das” – or “We can handle this” – Angela Merkel-era attitude to refugees has turned to anxiety. Veteran German director Tom Tykwer has created a heavy-footed magical-realist romp lasting two hours and 40 minutes about a complicated extended family in Berlin whose painful lives are turned around by a magic refugee whose purpose is to salvage their happiness. The film twice uses Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody to provide a jukebox blast of energy – the second time at the very end, worryingly indicating that the classic track is being brought on to save the day because the film is out of ideas.

Actor Aml Ameen left Sense8 before season 2, and thanks to his performance in the show's first volume many wonder why Capheus was recast. The Wachowski sisters (The Matrix) created Sense8, which follows 8 strangers from different countries and cultures who come to realize they have a psychic connection and can share emotions, knowledge, and skills with one another. They belong to a rare breed of human beings known as “sensates,” but their shared connection soon leads to them being hunted down by shadowy forces.
Capheus, an African bus driver inspired by martial arts movies, was one of the most likable members of the core sensate group. It was announced prior to the arrival of Sense8 season 2 that Aml Ameen, who played Capheus, quit the show and would be replaced by Toby Onwumere. The drama of addiction and recovery, as it takes place in the movies, tends to come at us like a series of rituals. There’s the rule-by-rule, day-by-day protocol of 12-step programs; a lot of us may feel we know it well from movies, even if we’ve never personally undergone the experience. There are the deeply engraved patterns of addiction itself: the highs, the lows, the cravings, the exploitation of friends and family members, the descent to the bottom, the grasping for the drink or the pill or the fix (or the one that isn’t there) and, in some cases, the criminal behavior. The reaching out to save oneself is also a kind of ritual — one that some addicts would say God built into us.
The ritual, in the case of this subject, extends to the audience. We live in a profoundly addictive society; whether or not you,...

"Scrubs" and "Garden State" star, Zach Braff, is jumping back into the director's chair after several awards nominations. Today we have the first trailer for his latest film, "A Good Person," starring Florence Pugh and Morgan Freeman. Production began on the project in October 2021, and it will be released in the spring of next year.
In the film, Pugh's character Allison is involved in a fatal accident, according to a report from Deadline. In the wake of the tragedy, Allison develops an "unlikely relationship with her would-be father-in-law," who is played by Freeman, which helps her find a way forward to "live a life worth living."
In addition to Pugh and Freeman, "A Good Person" will star Celeste O'Connor ("The In-Between"), Zoe Lister-Jones ("Life in Pieces"), and Molly Shannon ("Saturday Night Live"). Braff also serves as a writer for the film, which he told Vanity Fair that he wrote during the pandemic.

Viewers of sexy legal thriller Reasonable Doubt will discover something very much amiss in the seemingly perfect life of hotshot Los Angeles defense attorney Jax Stewart (Emayatzy Corinealdi). Her husband (McKinley Freeman) left her, she’s worrisomely attracted to both an ex-con client (Michael Ealy) and her own security guard (Toby Onwumere), and she’s defending wealthy Brayden Miller (Sean Patrick Thomas), charged with two horrific anti-woman crimes. So that she’s held at gunpoint — the perp is a central mystery — in the premiere may be the least of her problems. “Jax is definitely complicated,” says creator Raamla Mohamed, an executive producer alongside Kerry Washington, the pilot’s director. “Her relationship with men and with her sexuality get answered as the season goes on.” Sounds like a show soon to be a real guilty pleasure. The show title and each episode title are inspired by Jay-Z’s debut album of...

This article contains spoilers for The Matrix Resurrections.
Neo and Trinity are back in The Matrix Resurrections. But how the hell is that possible? Didn’t they die in Revolutions? And why is there a different version of Morpheus running around the simulation?
There are plenty of questions to be answered in The Matrix Resurrections and many of its big mysteries are addressed head on. But there are a few things that may not be so clear about the movie’s plot that need further explanation.
This is a sprawling, twisting, complicated, and sometimes messy movie, but I’ve tried my best to answer some of the movie’s biggest questions below…
How Are Neo and Trinity Alive?
Let’s get the hard question out of the way first. It’s confirmed in Resurrections that Neo and Trinity did indeed die in Revolutions — your eyes weren’t deceiving you — but...

Will “Matrix” fans take the Nft pill?
Warner Bros. is launching the sale of 100,000 nonfungible tokens (NFTs) of “Matrix”-inspired avatars later this month. The studio is pairing the hype over NFTs with the upcoming release of “The Matrix Resurrections,” aiming to gin up excitement for the long-awaited fourth movie in the popular sci-fi franchise — and also potentially landing a $5 million windfall over the sale of the digital-collectible NFTs.
It’s a natural tie-up that will put fans in the virtual world of “The Matrix,” through what the studio claims is the largest “Pfp” (profile picture) Nft drop ever with the 100,000 unique avatars available for purchase. One of the most iconic movies to come out in what many critics have hailed as the best year for movies in modern times, 1999’s “The Matrix” was not just an unexpected box office hit, but an awards favorite as well. The science-fiction classic won all four of the Academy Awards for which it was nominated: Best Film Editing, Best Sound, Best Sound Editing, Best Visual Effects. Its four total awards at the 2000 ceremony placed “The Matrix” just one behind the night’s biggest winner, Best Picture champ “American Beauty.”
Times have changed in the 22 years since “The Matrix” arrived: the film’s groundbreaking effects almost seem quaint when compared to some recent winners and nominees in the Best Visual Effects category — to say nothing of the fact that dial-up internet was a key reference point for its vision of a digital world. But now, 18 years after the original film...

Warner Bros. Pictures has released a first teaser poster along with the website for The Matrix Resurrections, prior to the first big trailer release this Thursday. In the original movie, Neo (Keanu Reeves) was told by Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne): “You take the blue pill…the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill…you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.” Neo chooses the red pill and joins the rebellion.

Back when most blockbuster movie franchises became standalone trilogies and not cinematic universes, The Matrix Revolutions seemed like a definitive end to Neo’s story. He’d struck a deal to save Zion from the Machines and deleted Hugo Weaving’s infinite Smiths once and for all. But what had it cost him? His sight, his life, and losing the woman he loved. It was a bittersweet end to The Wachowski’s magnum opus, but a conclusion nonetheless.
Until now. Highly anticipated sci-fi sequel The Matrix 4 has reportedly been shown in a test screening, and aside from revealing the title to indeed be The Matrix Resurrections as was previously rumored, the solitary review of director Lana Wachowski's return to the world she created has some very positive things to say. The surprising reveal of a Matrix sequel after all these years certainly has a lot of fans nervous. Hopefully this review will go some way to assuage those doubts.
The Matrix Resurrections screened this afternoon and it is: weird, meta, engrossing, surprisingly funny, and ambitious to a fault. I expect Wom to be wildly mixed but the people who love it will *love* it.

Considering that The Matrix 4 is due for release in just six months' time, we still know very, very little about the sci-fi action sequel. Well, star Jessica Henwick, who joins the likes of Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss in the unexpected follow-up, has offered some insight into her role in the movie, teasing a very physical character for her to play.
"I haven't seen a cut of the film, so I don't know what's in it and what isn't, but I trained every day for months. There are a couple of cast members who didn't have any physical stuff and they were so sad. How can you be in The Matrix and not get to do any of the good stuff?"
The Matrix is well-known for reinventing action cinema with the use of bullet-time, with audiences excited to see what director Lana Wachowski has in store all these years later.

The Matrix 4, which was recently revealed to be titled just Matrix, is being kept deeply under wraps, with details of the plot a total mystery at present. Something that we do know though is that the sequel will feature a host of new faces, Priyanka Chopra's being one of them, with the actress revealing that, while she may not be directly involved in any of the action sequences, her role will certainly be a surprising one.
"[Laughs] No. I can't say much, but she's something you don't expect. What I can say is I finished filming and it was the first movie I did after lockdown and I've never felt safer on a set."
While fans of Priyanka Chopra will no doubt be disappointed to learn that she won't be taking part in any sequences that involve kicking, punching, or being frozen mid-air while dodging bullets, it's certainly intriguing...

The announcement that Warner Bros will release all their upcoming movies to HBO Max throughout 2021 came as a major surprise not only to fans, but also seemingly to the filmmaker behind said movies. A source close to the ongoing negotiations has now revealed that, while a deal between Warner Bros and Legendary for the Godzilla vs. Kong release plan is close to being made, The Matrix 4 director Lana Wachowski is "adamant" about an exclusive theatrical run for the sci-fi action sequel.
Since the initial HBO Max announcement was made, there has been a lot of legal trouble behind the scenes, suggesting that the studio was a little quick to jump the gun before ensuring that everyone involved was on board. Legendary were reportedly very unhappy that this would take monster-mash epic Godzilla vs. Kong away from the big screen, with Dune director Denis Villeneuve also reportedly pushing back against the decision to skip theaters.

Filming on The Matrix 4 has now wrapped, with the cast and crew reportedly celebrating the movie's completion with a huge party in Germany, despite nationwide health and safety restrictions forbidding it. As many as 200 members of the team are said to have taken part in the wrap party at Studio Babelsberg in Potsdam, Germany, with those behind The Matrix 4 reportedly circumventing the new protocols by claiming they were filming a scene for the highly anticipated sci-fi sequel.
According to a source who was lucky enough to attend, the mood at the party was 'exuberant', and while they added that no one was filming, the spokeswoman for Studio Babelsberg, Bianca Markarewicz, refuted this claiming that the team was shooting a 'celebration scene' and that 'hygiene regulations were complied with.'
"The production team consciously put this shoot with its many participants, right at the end of the filming," Markarewicz asserted.

With The Matrix 4 now only just over a year away, excitement amongst fans is palpable. While we wait and see how exactly director Lana Wachowski is bringing back killed-off characters such as Keanu Reeves' Neo, The Matrix 4 star Jessica Henwick has revealed that seeing humanity's saviour resurrected proved to be an exhilarating experience for her and her co-stars.
"It's trippy. I grew up watching these films. The first time Keanu spoke in character and said Neo's lines, Yahya [Abdul-Mateen II] and I shared a look like, 'Oh my god, it's happening!'"
If the excitement behind-the-scenes is this high, just imagine what it will be like on screen. While specific details regarding the plot of The Matrix 4 continue to remain a mystery, many have speculated that 2003's The Matrix Reloaded contains clues as to how Neo will be brought back. Though you may be feeling a bit down thanks to the major Warner Bros. reshuffling that is currently happening due to the delay of No Time to Die, it's not all bad news. The Matrix 4 is now scheduled to hit theaters several months earlier than expected, moving from April 1, 2022, to Dec. 22, 2021. Rather perfectly, Neo, who has always been a sci-fi spiritual figure, will now return around Christmas.
Moving The Matrix 4 forward comes amid a series of delays at the box office, with No Time to Die now scheduled for release on April 2, 2021. Several movies on the DC slate have also suffered push backs, including director Matt Reeves' The Batman, which has been moved from next year all the way to March 4, 2022. The highly anticipated sci-fi epic Dune, has been delayed almost a full year and will now not grace theaters until October 1st, 2021, the date previously held by The Batman.

After praising director Lana Wachowski, Reeves describes The Matrix 4 as a "love story," and gives us some idea of the direction of the highly anticipated sequel.

The Matrix co-director Lilly Wachowski's recent revelation that the movie was always meant to be a metaphor for transgender identity has given the sci-fi classic a layer of interpretation many always suspected was there. Neo himself, Keanu Reeves, was recently asked about this element of The Matrix, to which the actor acknowledged that, while he was not aware of the transgender allegory, he thinks it's "cool".
"I never spoke to Lilly about that. She never conveyed that to me. I think the Matrix films are profound, and I think that allegorically, a lot of people in different versions of the film can speak to that, and for Lilly to come out and share that with us, I think is cool."
Lilly Wachowski revealed that this was almost meant to be one of the movie's purposes, with the director saying, "I'm glad that it has gotten out, that was the original intention.

Cameras have rolled again on The Matrix 4 after a five-month hiatus due the pandemic.
Deadline first revealed back in March that production on the Warner Bros / Village Roadshow pic was pausing in German city Berlin due to the disruption. Filming is now back underway, with star Keanu Reeves making an appearance in a video interview with AP to update on its prospects.

The announcement that we would be returning to the science fiction world of The Matrix came as quite the shock. With the trilogy having wrapped up all the way back in 2003, it was assumed that the story of rebel fighters Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus was over and done with. Well, the surprise was not just felt by fans, but by the stars of the movie franchise too, with Trinity herself, actress Carrie-Anne Moss, recently opening up about The Matrix being reloaded.
Speaking with Empire, Moss expressed her amazement over the franchise's return saying, "I never thought that it would happen. It was never on my radar at all." Moss will once again reprise her role as Trinity from the previous installments and went on to tease the brilliance of The Matrix 4 screenplay, praising writers Lily Wachowski, David Mitchell, and Aleksandar Hemon and citing them as her reason for agreeing to come back.

The Matrix 4 is looking to begin filming again in July. Production on the upcoming sequel originally kicked off in February, but production was shut down in mid-March as countries began putting social distancing measures in place. Now, as several countries such as New Zealand and the U.K. look to get movie and TV productions up and running again, Warner Bros. has its sights set on picking this one back up over the summer.
According to a new report, the cast members of The Matrix 4 have all signed an eight-week contract extension that will run through at least July 6. This will keep the cast on hold until that point, and Warner Bros. hopes that, somehow, filming can pick up by or before then. Filming had wrapped in San Francisco, with the cast and crew set to move on to Europe. But the shutdown took place before cameras got rolling on the continent.
