Breaking Amish and Return to Amish star Mary Schmucker a.k.a. “Mama Mary” died at the age of 65, TMZ reported. The former reality star reportedly died of complications with cancer on Friday (March 28), and her son Andrew Schmucker confirmed the news to the outlet. Rebecca Schmucker, her daughter-in-law and married to Abe Schmucker, revealed that Mary had been moved to hospice care in November 2024, by writing on Instagram, “I’m making a prayer request for mom. She’s not feeling good the last few weeks and can’t keep anything down and she’s having trouble eating. She is on hospice now. Her pain has been so bad and they are helping with that. If you could, flood her with positive messages and pray for her to be comfortable and pain free. Thank you!” Subsequently, Rebecca revealed another in December 2024, which was her last note on the matter of Mary’s health.

‘Mama’ Mary Schmucker, the Breaking Amish and Return to Amish star, has died. She was 65.

The TLC star’s son Andrew said she died from cancer complications on Friday at her home in Pennsylvania after she was briefly hospitalized earlier in the week, according to TMZ.

The outlet reported that Mama Schmucker was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2022 and underwent surgery that year, before she was placed in hospice care in November. Her cancer had recently metastasized all over her body.

“I’m making a prayer request for mom,” her daughter-in-law Rebecca shared in November. “She’s not feeling good the last few weeks and can’t keep anything down and she’s having trouble eating. She is on hospice now. Her pain has been so bad and they are helping with that. If you could, flood her with positive messages and pray for her to be comfortable and pain free.

Look at that. A big truth actually came out during the second "Shunning Truth" reunion special for "Breaking Amish: Brave New World." Abe's brother, Andrew, admitted that he and Rebecca had slept together, putting to rest those long-standing rumors.

“It was before Abe and them got together," he explained. "If I’d known the two of them was gonna get together, I would never have done it.”

Andrew said that they'd both been drinking -- Rebecca corroborated this -- and that it was a long time ago. He also said that he regretted it. In fact, he seemed to be more broken up about it than his brother. Abe said he felt fine about everything.

But while this admission solves one rumor, it adds more layers to another bit of speculation. There's long been talk that Andrew may be the father of Rebecca's daughter. Neither Rebecca nor Abe...

The gang got together again for the "Breaking Amish: Brave New World" reunion special, "The Shunning Truth." There, Rebecca and Abe revealed some pretty big news for their family.

“We are actually expecting," Rebecca said.

The couple also revealed a behind-the-scenes detail that wasn't seen on camera. Rebecca explained that her first child -- who may or may not be Abe's -- was with them the whole time they were filming in Florida. The Examiner notes that this was one of the reasons Abe's mom even took the trip to Florida. She was on hand to help take care of Rebecca's daughter.

Starcasm was excited about the baby news, but don't expect to see this new child on the cameras anytime soon. The site also quoted Rebecca as saying she has no interest in sharing her life with cameras anymore. She feels that it's all too stressful.

It was time for the "Breaking Amish: Brave New World" season finale, and it brought with it a bombshell announcement from Abe and Rebecca. They'd decided to move back to Amish country in Pennsylvania.

They weren't rejoining the Amish lifestyle, but they wanted to settle down in Pennsylvania. Abe's mom, Mary, was stunned. She'd just left the Amish and thought the whole family would stay in Florida.

"I have a lot of concerns about going home, because I know I’m definitely going to be shunned," Mary said. "It sounds like you’re throwing me to the lions.”

She said that it was Rebecca making the decisions. Abe responded, "I am married now, I have a family. It’s time for you to let me go, mom.”

But Mary stayed by her son, despite her reservations. All three moved back to Pennsylvania where Abe and Rebecca bought a house.

Being a part of the first breakout season of "Breaking Amish" came back to haunt Rebecca on the latest episode of the spin-off series "Breaking Amish: Brave New World." She was asking about getting a job at a restaurant when she was emphatically told, "No."

“You coming in here wanting to work -- I think a lot of our employees would be disgusted about it because we love the Amish," she was told by a waitress. "We have a lot of Amish people that come in here.”

Abe, who was with Rebecca, asked the waitress if she'd grown up Amish. When she said that she hadn't, Abe countered, with ,"Then don’t tell me how the Amish live their life.”

Once again, Abe's mom took center stage on the latest episode of "Breaking Amish: Brave New World." With the younger people of the cast having already spent some time outside of their communities, she's truly the one "Breaking Amish" right now. And in this week's episode that meant an unexpected exchange between Mary and her son, Abe.

Thanks to their Amish upbringing, Mary and Abe had never hugged. But Abe wanted to change that.

“Can I give you a hug?” he asked his mother.

She embraced her son and discovered something remarkable. "Abe hugged me for the first time. It makes a person feel really good to hug their kids.”

Abe's mother and sister decided to travel down to Florida to surprise him and his friends on "Breaking Amish: Brave New World." Abe's mother, Mary, had lots of questions for the two African-American women they sat by in a restaurant. "Are you call yourself black, colored, or--"

"African American," the women answered.

"Are you actually from African?" Mary responded. She was politely corrected that the continent was "Africa" and that the women weren't from there. It was all very adorable, and the African-American women seemed just as charmed by the whole experience as the two Amish women.

After the runaway success of "Breaking Amish," the original cast reunited for the premiere of "Breaking Amish: Brave New World." The five young people who'd chosen to leave their restrictive religious homes continued to explore their new lives in the larger world, which proved awkward inspirational for Abe's sister.

The series began with Abe and Rebecca planning to take a road trip down to Florida to meet with the rest of the cast. When Abe's sister, 18-year-old Katie Ann, wanted to join them on this new adventure, Rebecca wasn't supportive of it at all.

"Breaking Amish" is turning into a franchise for TLC with the debut of spinoff series "Breaking Amish: Brave New World" set for May 12.

"New World" will follow the cast of "Breaking Amish" Season 1 -- Abe, Rebecca, Kate, Sabrina and Jeremiah -- as they attempt to start new lives in Florida.

The network is already working on Season 2 of "Amish" which will follow a new cast of Amish and Mennonite men and women "eager to live a life beyond the limited upbringings they've known." Production is expected to begin in the spring ahead of a to-be-determined premiere date later this summer.

Those crazy Amish kids will be back for a second season in 2013 -- TLC has ordered "Breaking Amish" Season 2.

The series was a solid hit for TLC when it debuted, showing the wild lives of young Amish and Mennonite men and women as they left their sheltered communities for the glamorous world of New York City. Season 2, set to premiere in May of 2013, will move the kids south. This time, Abe, Rebecca, Kate, Sabrina and Jeremiah will have to contend with the bizarre world of Florida.

Yes, there will be Amish on the beach.

Viewers can expect more craziness as the second season brings new versions of culture shock, some unexpected enemies, love triangles, career choices and even some family members with their own agendas. Will the kids make their "English" lives work in the face of all of this?

TLC has announced that they've renewed their successful Breaking Amish TV series for a second season. The new eight episodes will debut sometime in May.

This first season had a dozen installments and finished airing in November.

TLC has renewed "Breaking Amish" for a second season. The reality series, which followed five Amish and Mennonite young adults as they left their insular cultures for a new life in New York, is headed to Florida for Season 2.

The new season is set to premiere in March of 2013 and will be rolled out in eight hour-long episodes.

In a press release, TLC previewed what the new season had in store. "Abe, Rebecca, Kate, Sabrina and Jeremiah reunite expecting to make a fresh start in Florida, but instead find more culture shock, unexpected enemies, and surprises from family members with their own agendas." It also promised more "love triangles, dramatic moments between the roommates, [and] financial woes."

"Breaking Amish" averaged 3.2 million viewers per episode in Season 1, making it the highest-rated freshman series in TLC history.

Former "Storage Wars" star Dave Hester is suing A&E and alleging that significant aspects of hit reality show are fake, Deadline reports.

According to the lawsuit obtained by Deadline, Hester claims that "Storage Wars" producers plant expensive items -- such as a BMW, or a newspaper announcing Elvis' death -- in storage lockers that its stars are supposed to be blindly bidding on.

“['Storage Wars'] regularly 'salts' the storage lockers that are the subject of the auctions portrayed on the Series with valuable or unusual items to add dramatic effect, even going so far as to stage entire storage units," the suit reads.

Hester claims that he was fired from the show for complaining about the shady practice, and is seeking $3.5 million in damages.

Last month TLC promised that the Breaking Amish: The Shunning Truth specials would “address all of the swirling rumors and allegations” that have surrounded the authenticity of the reality show. But tonight on the last of the two-part cast reunion shows, the series’ Jeremiah, Kate, Sabrina, Rebecca, and Abe were mostly circumspect about the controversies and how much of the show was fake. The five avoided answering some questions from Access Hollywood’s Michelle Beadle. And the cast insisted that many other revelations of their prior experiences with the modern world, including DUIs and previous marriages, aren’t anyone else’s business. “They can believe whatever they want but if they want to know they can watch the show,” said Rebecca about the cast’s lives. “I don’t give a [beeped out] what anybody thinks.” Parsing their words, the cast members dismissed online critics who have said the series is...

As promised, "Breaking Amish" started digging into all those rumors about the cast during the show's season finale. In particular, Rebecca admitted to having a child. Pictures of her with fellow cast-member Abe -- though the two supposedly only started dating during filming of the show -- and the child started circulating shortly after the show premiered. This was the first confirmation from the network or the show.

"I do have a daughter. She’s 19- months old. I wasn’t with my ex when I found out I was pregnant," Rebecca said. She further said that her ex denied that the baby was his, which she was glad of. But was that ex Abe? Rebecca didn't specify, and Abe -- who is now married to Rebecca -- refused to comment on it at all.
