‘I Am: Celine Dion’ Becomes Prime Video’s All-Time Most Popular Documentary
Image
Exclusive: Celine Dion looks set to perform at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris on Friday, in a joint appearance with Lady Gaga. But that’s not the only big news to report about the French-Canadian chanteuse.

I Am: Celine Dion, the film that chronicles the singer’s extraordinary career and her recent health struggles, has become Prime Video’s most popular documentary ever. It has also impacted her music sales: Since the documentary’s release on June 25, “Dion’s catalog streams are up +33% worldwide,” Amazon MGM Studios tells us.

The documentary directed by Irene Taylor shows how Dion rose to fame in her native Québec, releasing her first album at age 13. She went on to sell upwards of 250 million records, win six Grammys, perform at the Academy Awards, and record the Oscar-winning love theme from Titanic, “My Heart Will Go On.” In the film, Dion...

Prime Video has acquired worldwide rights to Oscar-nominated filmmaker Irene Taylor’s Celine Dion documentary I Am: Celine Dion.

Filmed across the course of just over a year, the documentary offers a snapshot of a pivotal time in the pop icon’s life and career as she reveals her battle with Stiff Person Syndrome (Sps) and the lengths she has gone to continue performing for her beloved and loyal fans.

“This last couple of years has been such a challenge for me, the journey from discovering my condition to learning how to live with and manage it, but not to let it define me,” Dion said of the film.

“As the road to resuming my performing career continues, I have realised how much I have missed it, of being able to see my fans. During this absence, I decided I wanted to document this part of my life, to try...

Celine Dion Documentary Lands at Amazon MGM
Image
A documentary about Celine Dion has been acquired by Amazon MGM.

The film, titled “I Am: Celine Dion,” will be available to stream on Prime Video at a yet-to-be-determined date. It’s not an expansive look at the life and times of the iconic pop singer, instead capturing a snapshot of a pivotal time in her career. The documentary spans about a year and chronicles Dion’s battle with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that affects the brain and the spinal cord. In the case of Dion, the illness halted her livelihood and ability to perform.

Dion didn’t officially share her diagnosis until December 2022, as she announced she was postponing her world tour due to spasms that impacted the way she walked and sang. “While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all of the spasms that I’ve been having,...

The film follows the superstar as she is diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome and continues to navigate her career.

The synopsis for the doc reads: “From visiting her couture touring wardrobe and personal effects to spending time in the recording studio, the documentary captures a global megastar’s never-before-seen private life. An emotional, energetic, and poetic love letter to music, I Am: Celine Dion captures more than a year of filming as the legendary singer navigates her journey toward living an open and authentic life amidst illness.”

In December 2022, Celine revealed she had been diagnosed with the rare neurological disorder, “which affects something like one in a million people,” she informed fans in an Instagram video. Late last year, her sister Claudette Dion said the singer had lost control of her muscles.
