Image
Back at the end of 2023, we heard that production had wrapped on Brute 1976, a horror project described as an homage to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes. Now, Cinephobia Releasing is gearing up to release the film in the United States, and they have revealed that it will be reaching select theatres in August, followed closely by a digital and VOD release on August 26th. To figure out if this is a movie you’d like to watch in a couple of months, take a look at the trailer in the embed above.

Directed by Marcel Walz from a screenplay by Joe Knetter, Brute 1976 begins with Raquel and her girlfriend, whose car breaks down in the middle of nowhere as they travel to a photoshoot in the desert to celebrate Bicentennial unity . Grindhouse Gore Returns in Brutal New Slasher ‘Brute 1976’
Image
Cinephobia Releasing has unleashed the first look at Brute 1976, a sun-scorched slasher drenched in 1970s grit, arriving on digital and VOD platforms from 26 August. Written by Joe Knetter and directed by Marcel Walz, the film is a tribute to the dirt-caked brutality of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes, while introducing its own depraved twist on the classic desert-horror formula.

Set in the titular year, the film begins with Raquel and her girlfriend stranded on a desolate road after their car breaks down in unforgiving terrain. Nearby, a separate group embarks on a fashion photoshoot, oblivious to the horrors that await. Both parties are drawn to an abandoned town, seemingly forgotten by time, but inhabited by a violent and secretive clan. What follows is a collision of blood, panic and survival as the group face the Birdy family, a masked brood of killers who make their...

Back at the end of 2023, we heard that production had wrapped on Brute 1976, a horror project described as an homage to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes. Now, the film has taken a huge step toward making its way out into the world, as Cinephobia Releasing has announced that they have acquired the U.S. distribution rights! They haven’t revealed exactly when they’re going to be releasing it yet, but we should be hearing that information very soon. For now, we know that they will debut the film sometime in Summer 2025 with a limited theatrical launch, which will be followed closely by an on demand and digital release.

Cinephobia Releasing Acquires US Rights To The Texas Chainsaw Massacre & The Hills Have Eyes Homage Brute 1976 From Raven Banner: "Cinephobia Releasing announced today that it has acquired US Rights to director Marcel Walz’s and writer Joe Knetter’s (George A. Romero’s Twilight of the Dead) latest feature Brute 1976 from Tornonto-based genre sales specialist Raven Banner Entertainment. An homage to ‘70s horror cult classics The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes. Cinephobia Releasing acquired rights to the film in a deal negotiated between Cinephobia President Raymond Murray, and Cecilia A. Brush, Head of Sales and Distribution of Raven Banner Entertainment.

”Brute 1976 is bloody and sexy, with a deranged family so demented they make John Waters’s Pink Flamingos look like a paradigm of family values,” said Murray. “Brute 1976 restored my faith in horror that shocks.”

The film takes place in 1976, when Raquel and her girlfriend...

Tokio Hotel Singer Bill Kaulitz Lands Film Debut In Marcel Walz’s Indie Horror ‘Brute 1986’
Image
Exclusive: Bill Kaulitz has swapped the concert stage for the big screen by landing his first film role.

The Tokio Hotel frontman, whose band is among Germany’s most successful music acts, has landed a role in Brute 1986, an indie pic inspired by 1980s slasher movies.

In the film, Leather Kobra, a Sunset Strip-style glam metal band films a music video in an abandoned Western town in the middle of nowhere. Ignoring ‘no trespassing’ signs, the rebellious group have no idea they are being watched by the Birdy family, who will meet them with a “level of brutality that is as vicious as it is creative,” according to producers.

Starring alongside Kaulitz are Gigi Gustin (Stiletto), Sarah French (Blind), Pancho Moler (3 From Hell), Lew Temple (The Devil’s Rejects), Heather Grace Hancock (Wicked City) and Dazelle Yvette (Garden of Eden).

Joe Knetter (Twilight of the Dead) is the writer, with...

That’s a Wrap Review
Image
Plot: When filmmaker Mason Maestro throws a private party after production wraps on his new slasher flick, someone dressed like the killer in the movie starts knocking off the partiers one-by-one.

Review: After working together on the stalker film Blind (read my review at This Link) and its sequel Pretty Boy (which we’re still anxiously waiting to see), director Marcel Walz, screenwriter Joe Knetter, and star Sarah French have teamed up once again to launch a production company called Neon Noir. Their first production is That’s a Wrap, a giallo slasher that takes both clear inspiration from the works of Italian filmmakers like Mario Bava and Dario Argento – especially due to the fact that Walz and cinematographer Marcus Friedlander have soaked nearly every shot in colorful lighting – and from the Scream franchise, in that it’s a meta film where the characters work in the horror business.

As Terry Alexander...

Rukavina added: “As a stalwart of Australian drama television, the show is on the front foot of showcasing diverse and real representations of Australian families, not in a tokenistic way.”
