Jackie Cruz, Penelope Mitchell & Jeff Adler Join Emile Hirsch In Indie Horror Film ‘Woozy’

Exclusive: Jackie Cruz (Orange Is the New Black), Penelope Mitchell (Oh Canada) and Jeff Adler (Greyhound) will round out the cast of Woozy, the forthcoming indie horror pic marking the feature debut of writer-director Joey Bicicchi, on which we were first to report.

Details as to the roles to be played by the trio haven’t been disclosed. Production on the film is currently underway in New Jersey.

Woozy is a film that tells of unhealthy coping mechanisms and the battle against fears, depression, phobias, and delusions. Dusty (Hirsch) has deliberately structured his life, through meditation, yoga, boxing, nutrition, and hygiene, to create a clean and safe environment. But what happens when Dusty’s flawless system fails? Out comes Woozy, a horrifying apparition who torments Dusty.

Exclusive: Actor Luis Guzman has signed on to star in the feature Miles Away, which Grandave International is launching as part of its slate at the American Film Market.

Written and directed by Jackie Quinones, synopsis reads: A dreamer making ends meet as a rideshare driver is on a collision course with reality as she struggles with the hardships of poverty, bad decisions, and a mentally ill sister.

Alongside Miles Away, Grandave is launching thrillers No Way Out and Shut Eye. No Way Out tells the story of the character Matteo, played by Jeff Adler (Beautiful Boy.) Atlanta Now Casting: Play a Principal Role in Inspiring Play ‘Citizens Market’
Star in an inspiring play about chosen family in an unlikely place this spring. Written by Cori Thomas and directed by Jeff Adler, “Citizens Market” will follow a hopeful group of immigrants who form an unlikely family as employees at a New York City supermarket “working to master the ups and downs of language, love, and staying afloat in the city that never sleeps.” The production is seeking Equity actors for the five principal roles in the play. Talent, aged 20–69, of all ethnicities, is wanted for the roles, though the characters will be immigrants from Romania, Sierra Leone, Ghana, and El Salvador. There will be an Equity Principal Audition on March 27 in Atlanta, Georgia. Local actors or actors who have Atlanta, Georgia housing and are able to work locally are strongly encouraged to apply. Danny Draven, who some genre fans will know as the director of Hell Asylum, Deathbed and other low budget fare, is back behind the camera for Ghost Asylum – a cheap (and audience-screwing) retitling of his 2012 film Reel Evil, which has already been released by 88 Films under its original title in 2014! The cast are fairly unknown so I won’t delve into their history in film here, it doesn’t need to be spoken about for this review to make sense.

Ghost Asylum is a found footage style horror movie, along the lines of Blair Witch and such, but sadly it doesn’t have the curiosity and originality of some found footage films, and instead follows cliques and falls flat in many areas throughout its short 78 minute running time.

The official trailer is now online for the found-footage feature Reel Evil, written by Shane Bitterling and directed by Danny Draven for Full Moon. The film releases to DVD and VOD on December 4th.

Synopsis:

Reel Evil follows struggling filmmakers Kennedy, Cory and James, who finally catch the break they are looking for when they are hired to shoot a behind-the-scenes documentary for a major studio production. But their dream job quickly turns into a nightmare when they explore the legendary haunted location and find something far worse than anything Hollywood could create. Terror becomes reality for the filmmakers as they uncover the malevolent secrets of the hospital and the sinister doctor who once ran it.
