‘Fauda’ Maker Yes Studios Offers ‘Lifeline’ At Mipcom

Exclusive: Fauda and Your Honor firm Yes Studios is heading to Mipcom to launch a thought-provoking factual series going behind the scenes of helpline call centers.

Single-cam doc Lifeline follows the highly trained volunteers at Israel’s Eran Association (Emotional First Aid), who receive calls from people in desperate situations. In some cases, actors (used to preserve anonymity) improvise off notes from selected real cases to bring them to life.

Storylines include that of Aref, a Druze manager at Eran, who receives a call from a fellow Druze sent to murder his sister in the name of his family’s honor, and another featuring Marcella, whose own tragic story is recalled as she talks to an overworked and exhausted medical intern. Sameh Zoabi’s Tel Aviv On Fire wins top prize.

The 34th Haifa International Film Festival (September 22-October 1) came to a close with Sameh Zoabi’s Tel Aviv On Fire winning the Haifa Cultural Fund Award for the Best Feature Film in the Israeli feature competition. It comes with a $27,000 prize.

Zoabi’s third feature, a comic take on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, made its debut at Venice Orizzonti strand.

This year’s jury comprised Julie Schlez, Philippe Le Guay, Salwa Nakkara, Yaron Scharf, Jordi Rediu
