Gold Derby has confirmed that the Television Academy has now moved it to the main Primetime Emmys telecast, airing Sept. 14 on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.

According to Gold Derby’s latest combined odds, SNL50: The Anniversary Special is the category front-runner, followed by Apple Music’s Super Bowl Lix Halftime Show starring Kendrick Lamar, The Oscars, Beyoncé Bowl, and SNL50: The Homecoming Concert — another tribute entry from the most Emmy-winning show in history.

The greatest lost concert in American history almost never happened at all. It was Oct. 27, 1968, in Palo Alto, California. Outside of his high school, Danny Scher, a 16-year-old, bushy-haired, jazz-obsessed, self-described “weirdo,” was pacing the parking lot waiting for his hero, and music’s most elusive and enigmatic genius, to show up: composer and pianist Thelonious Monk.

To the disbelief of most everyone — including his mother and girlfriend waiting alongside him — Scher claimed to have booked the jazz legend for an afternoon gig, the modern equivalent of securing Kendrick Lamar for prom.

Luminate’s 2025 midyear report has arrived, and it has some surprising data: Rock is back.

According to the report, rock came in second in the top U.S. core genre, ranked by on-demand audio streaming. It sits with 123.3 billion, behind hip-hop and R&b at 171.1 billion. But that’s not all: Rock experienced the highest growth compared to the same timeframe as 2024, with Latin, country, and Christian/gospel following. As Superman sailed into theaters last weekend, a surprising new Cash App advertisement starring Timothée Chalamet hit the big screen before Clark Kent. It sent his fans into a frenzy while outlets like Esquire covered the mysterious collaboration, wondering why it’s nowhere to be found aside from movie theaters.

More has been revealed as the creative two-minute spot debuted online today and Cash App confirmed the details of its first-ever partnership with the two-time Academy Award nominee. It includes the clip, seen below, as well as out-of-home advertising in New York City and Los Angeles, limited-edition Cash App Card stamps designed with Chalamet and more.

Morgan Wallen’s I’m The Problem was the biggest album in the U.S. through the first half of 2025, and Kendrick Lamar and Sza had the biggest song with “Luther,” Luminate reported in its 2025 Midyear Report published Wednesday morning.

Since its release in May, I’m The Problem has already amassed 2.562 million equivalent units, per Luminate, buoyed most directly by over 2.9 billion streams, while also amassing about 200,000 album sales and another 250,000 song sales. Sza’s Sos, which has enjoyed a significant boost since she released her deluxe Lana reissue of the album at the end of last year, was the second-biggest album in the U.S. at the midyear with about 1.711 million equivalent units. Kendrick Lamar’s Gnx came in third with just over 1.7 million, Bad Bunny’s Debí Tirar Más Fotos took fourth with 1.65 million, and Sabrina Carpenter’s 2024 Short n’ Sweet rounded out the Top Five with over 1.3 million.

Clipse stopped by The Tonight Show to perform their recent song “The Birds Don’t Sing.” The evocative track is the opening number on the rap group’s latest LP, Let God Sort Em Out, which dropped July 11.

The nominees for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced this morning, and the HBO limited series The Penguin earned a total of 24 Emmy nominations for the 2025 awards. 

While a substantial amount of the 24 come from the technical and craft categories, the major awards the show is up for includes a top-tier nomination for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

The show's cast received major acclaim as well, with Colin Farrell nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor and Cristin Milioti for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Additionally, Deirdre O'Connell was honored with a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress.

Beyoncé is facing some particularly familiar competition for an Emmy this year: her own husband.

As the 2025 Emmy nominations were announced on Tuesday, both Queen Bey and Jay-Z (real name Shawn Carter) were listed as nominees in the outstanding variety special (live) category; Beyoncé for her Beyoncé Bowl halftime show for the NFL’s Christmas Day game on Netflix, and Jay as one of the executive producers for Kendrick Lamar’s Apple Music Super Bowl Lix Halftime Show.

It’s hard to track how many times a husband and wife have ever competed against one another in the same Emmy category in the past, though it’s certainly not a common occurrence.

Both Beyoncé and Lamar’s halftime shows were critically lauded and groundbreaking. Beyoncé performed the first-ever Christmas Day NFL halftime show, while Lamar broke records for the most-viewed Super Bowl halftime show of all time with over 133 million viewers.

A father-daughter composing team was nominated, Hans Zimmer could win his first Emmy, and a music supervisor was nominated for three different shows — just some of the surprises among nominations for the 2024-2025 Emmys unveiled Tuesday morning by the Television Academy.

Thomas Newman and his daughter Julia Newman were nominated for their music for Netflix’s miniseries “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” a first in Emmy history for a two-generation, same-family collaboration on a single television score. And in another musical-family story, Oscar and Emmy winner Michael Giacchino’s son Mick Giacchino was nominated for his original music for HBO’s “The Penguin.”

Zimmer, who has two Oscars and four Grammys, has never won an Emmy but could this year with his nomination in the documentary music category for NBC’s “The Americas” (shared with fellow composers Anze Rozman and Kara Talve).
