Andy Samberg’s Digman! Season 2 premiere swings to a later date in July after South Park shuffle at Comedy Central
Image
If you’re craving more adventures with Andy Samberg‘s Rip Digman, you’ll need to wait a little longer for the antics to begin. The release date shift for Digman! Season 2 comes after Comedy Central pushed the Season 27 premiere date of South Park from July 9 to July 23. The sophomore season of Digman! will do the same, with the animated series created by Samberg and Neil Campbell debuting on Wednesday, July 23 at 10:30 p.m.

Digman! takes place in a world where archaeologists are massive celebrities and the coolest people on the planet. Samberg wrote and produced Season 1, and a cast of familiar voices return for Digman! Season 2!

Andy Samberg’s ‘Digman!’ Season 2 Premiere Pushed to Follow Delayed ‘South Park’ Season 27
Image
Where South Park goes, Digman! follows — literally.

The season two premiere of Andy Samberg’s Digman! is being pushed out two weeks to Wednesday, July 23, just like the season 27 premiere of South Park. Digman! airs in Comedy Central’s 10:30 p.m. time slot, immediately after South Park at 10.

South Park’s season 27 premiere was delayed on Wednesday. The news came amid a streaming-rights battle between the creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and the channel’s parent company, Paramount Global.

Parker and Stone are not happy about the delay, and they made that known.

“In response to the press release from Comedy Central about the change in premiere date for South Park Trey Parker & Matt Stone said — ‘This merger is a shitshow and it’s fucking up South Park. We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow,’” a...

‘Digman’ Season 2 Release Date Pushed Back at Comedy Central Alongside ‘South Park’
Image
The Comedy Central animated series “Digman!” is the latest show to shift its premiere at the basic cabler.

The second season of “Digman!” was slated to debut on July 9, but it will now premiere two weeks later on July 23 at 10:30 p.m. Et/Pt. The move keeps the series in line with the launch of Season 27 of “South Park,” which also recently shifted its premiere date to July 23.

No sign yet that the “Digman!” creators are planning to release a statement to address the move, but “South Park’s” Trey Parker and Matt Stone had plenty to say, particularly regarding the Paramount-Skydance merger. In a statement posted online shortly after the premiere date move was announced, Parker and Stone said, “This merger is a shit show and it’s fucking up ‘South Park.’ We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow.

An Ode to the Music of ‘Bluey’
Image
When The Jonas Brothers open their show in Brisbane by walking out to your animated kid show’s theme tune, then that theme song and that show have done way more than entertain some 6-year-olds. The show in question, “Bluey,” has been a phenomenon for a while — it’s approved by the kids of “Abbott Elementary” as well as millions worldwide — and the music by composer Joff Bush and a coterie of talented collaborators has fueled two albums and untold instances of “Dance Mode.”

Music has always anchored the wordless sequences where “Bluey” reaches its most poignant heights — whether gently cribbing from Gustav Holst as younger sister Bingo swims past the planets in her dream in “Sleepy Time” or ever-so-slightly tweaking a recurring theme as Rusty walks off the cricket pitch in “Cricket” and high fives his future self as that Rusty steps up to a much bigger stage. But the latest,...

7 Our Flag Means Death Storylines That Will Never Be Resolved After The Show's Cancellation
Image
Our Flag Means Death was cancelled by HBO after two seasons, leaving unresolved storylines and romantic subplots. Fans will be disappointed by the lack of development in the relationship between Zheng and Oluwande, as well as Jim and Archie. The show's clever incorporation of history and the unfinished storyline between Stede and Ed will never be explored further.

The historically-inspired pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death was recently cancelled by HBO after two seasons. Following the adventures of the "Gentleman Pirate" Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and his romance with Edward "Ed" Teach (Taika Waititi), a.k.a. Blackbeard, Our Flag Means Death's first two seasons were critically acclaimed and popular among audiences. Showrunner David Jenkins thanked fans for their support when he announced the show's cancellation via Instagram.

A representative from Max also thanked the Our Flag Means Death cast, crew, and fans in a statement (via Deadline). The...

The Real Pirates That Inspired Stede Bonnet and Blackbeard in "Our Flag Means Death"
Image
Yo ho ho! The pirate comedy "Our Flag Means Death" is back for a second season, and we couldn't be more excited to catch up with Stede, Ed, and the rest of our favorite criminal misfits. The quirky show actually has more in common with real history than you might expect, with several characters loosely inspired (emphasis on the "loosely") by real-life pirates and miscreants. Sure, the real Stede and Ed probably didn't have a romance that was both devastating and adorable - but there's at least a kernel of truth to their portrayals on the show.

Is Stede Bonnet Based on a Real Person?

Yes! While Stede Bonnet (played by Rhys Darby) might not be a name most people know, he was, in fact, a real person. Born in 1688, he was a young landowner in Barbados who inherited his family's holdings at the age of six after his father died.

Critic’s Notebook: ‘Killing It’ Season 2 Is a Savage and Hilarious Dissection of Our Dog-Eat-Dog World
Image
Warning: This notebook contains spoilers for the second season of Peacock’s Killing It.

The driving idea behind Peacock’s Killing It might be most tidily encapsulated in an argument between its two leads in the season two finale. Having screwed an associate out of his share of their saw palmetto berry farm, Craig (Craig Robinson) defends the tactic as “very basic dog-eat-dog stuff.” His best friend and co-owner, however, rejects the cliché. “But like, dogs shouldn’t eat dogs, right?” Jillian (Claudia O’Doherty) demands. “No. When a dog eats another dog, people freak out.”

By Killing It’s estimation, they’re both right. Dan Goor and Luke Tredici are scathing in their criticism of the modern American rat race, which, to Craig’s point, does tend to reward those most willing to manipulate, cheat and harm others. But its heart ultimately lies with Jillian. This situation is worth freaking out about.

What to watch this weekend August 18, 2023: TV awards contenders
Image
Though less obvious about it than some other streaming services, Peacock has been churning out some of the best TV of the year. On the heels of Emmy-nominated series “Poker Face” and “Mrs. Davis” comes the return of Craig Robinson’s comedy “Killing It.” The show stars Robinson and Claudia O’Doherty as Craig and Jillian, two underdogs who team up to kill snakes to win prize money, a real thing that happens in Florida as a means of protecting the ecosystem from invasive pythons.

In Season 2, which is now streaming, the pair’s talent for killing snakes leads to the realization of Craig’s dream: owning a saw palmetto farm, which he hopes will give him the means to become a mogul. The comedy, which hails from “Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s” Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici, is as endearing as it is biting as it takes on issues of class...

Killing It: Craig Robinson, Rell Battle, and Claudia O'Doherty Preview Season 2's Big Shift
Craig Robinson and Claudia O'Doherty in Killing It (2022)
Peacock's Killing It burst onto screens last year and landed strong reviews.

The second season, premiering Thursday, August 17, 2023, heightens the stakes and the comedy as Craig and Jillian take the money they won from the Florida Python Challenge and buy a saw palmetto berry farm.

TV Fanatic got the chance to speak with Craig Robinson, Rell Battle, and Claudia O'Doherty about what's in store for the sophomore season. These interviews were conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Robinson opened up about where we pick up with Craig. He's closer than ever to achieving his dreams after winning the money.

The actor says Craig "couldn't be happier" when Killing It Season 2 begins, but he warns that it "all comes crashing down."

"He's about to get paid, and then, it's a dream deferred, if you will," he explained, adding that Craig's relationships with all the characters will come to the forefront this season.

‘Killing It’ Is One of TV’s Most Criminally Overlooked Comedies
Image
In these dark times in which we live, the line between satire and horror can be so razor-thin as to barely exist at all. Peacock’s Craig Robinson comedy Killing It is ostensibly a comedy about how badly the American economic system is stacked against anyone who isn’t already well-off. But its humor is so cutting, and so often feels not that far removed from reality, that I often spend more time covering my face during episodes than laughing.

This is not a complaint, mind you. The series, created...

Craig Robinson and Claudia O'Doherty Talk Season Two of Killing It

Note: This interview was conducted before the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, and the show covered here would not exist without the labor of the writers and actors in WGA and SAG-AFTRA.Killing It showrunners Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici go bigger and bolder in season two of Peacock’s hit comedy about class, capitalism, unlikely bonds, and outrunning the bad guys. Out: Snakes. In: Something libidinous. Craig Robinson and Claudia O'Doherty's characters, Craig and Jillian, put aside their snake-wrangling ploy (somewhat) for a newfound money-making venture that’s bound to get a rise — literally. Best to tune in and see for yourself about that plot device.

In the meantime, like Poker Face, Killing It has emerged as one of Peacock’s best series, and its guest stars are part of the draw. In addition to Robinson, O’Doherty, and Rell Battle, who plays Craig’s brother Isaiah in the show,...

Rell Battle Talks Killing It Season 2
Image
Note: This interview was conducted before the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, and the show covered here would not exist without the labor of the writers and actors in WGA and SAG-AFTRA.“The pressures of gaining money changes everybody,” beamed Rell Battle (Key & Peele) about some of the changes ahead in season two of Killing It, Peacock’s hit comedy which skewers capitalism and waxes philosophical about class. Battle plays Isaiah, the quirky brother of the show's protagonist, Craig (Craig Robinson of This Is the End and Hot Tub Time Machine). The second season premieres Aug. 17.

Other changes this season include a big switch in the hilarious money-making schemes of Craig and Jillian (Claudia O'Doherty of Trainwreck and Love). Last season, it was all about snake-wrangling. There’s a new hustle this go around, which should generate plenty of laughs. Par for the course for a show that joyously tackles one guy’s...

Disney streaming users can be forgiven for hoping that last week was just a dream that they’ll wake up from soon. The House of Mouse announced a new wave of price increases for all of its streaming services last week, though the ad-supported plans of Disney+ and Hulu will remain unchanged.

Elsewhere in Hollywood, the top writers’ and actors’ unions in the business remain on strike, with no end in sight. Representatives for the Writers Guild of America resumed negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (which represents major studios) on Friday, which is at least a step in the right direction. It may not be in time to save the entire fall programming schedule, but there are several new shows and movies headed to streaming this week to help viewers distract themselves in the meantime!

Killing It Stars Craig Robinson & Claudia O’Doherty On The New Hustle Of Season 2
Image
Killing It season 2 continues to deliver the humor and wit that made the first season a hit, with new plot twists and an exploration of social issues in the Florida Everglades. Craig Robinson prefers working with snakes over alligators, finding them more predictable, but both animals add excitement and danger to the show's thrilling storyline.

Peacock to Sample ‘Killing It’ on USA Network, YouTube, TikTok
Image
To promote the Aug. 17 return of Peacock’s Killing It, NBCUniversal is turning to other alternatives as star Craig Robinson remains barred from doing so amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

NBCUniversal announced Monday that the first three episodes of season one of the comedy from the duo behind Brooklyn Nine-Nine are now available to watch for free on YouTube and TikTok. The first two episodes of the series will also air Monday on USA Network, following the top-rated WWE Monday Night Raw.

The push to expose Killing It is part of a strategy that NBCUniversal — and likely other conglomerates — will use in order to promote both new and returning scripted shows as their central stars are unable to do so much as tweet in support of their work during the performers strike against Hollywood’s top studios and streamers. Other networks and streamers, meanwhile, have opted to push back premiere...

Every TV Series Coming to Peacock in August 2023
Image
August is that tricky time of year. It's not quite fall yet, but summer is on its way out. That can make planning activities for the remainder of the warm season a little challenging. But if you're here reading this article, chances are you're more of a stay-inside-and-stream kind of person. No judgment either way.

Peacock has had a pretty successful 2023 TV lineup so far. They started the year with a bang via the hit Poker Face. The hits continued throughout the spring and summer, with standouts Based on a True Story and the upcoming Twisted Metal. Even Pete Davidson's Bupkis, where he breaks out of typecasting by literally playing Pete Davidson, was an unexpected hit. The fall looks to be lucrative as well, with the John Wick prequel The Continental set for a September bow.

With so many titles drawing viewers' eyes, the NBCUniversal-owned streamer is being...

10 TV Side Characters Infinitely More Likable Than The Lead
Image
While there are countless memorable lead characters from TV shows, there are also many cases where side characters were actually a lot more likable than the main one. Among the key elements for a successful TV show is having a main character that the audience can connect with in one way or another, but just as important as a show’s lead character are its secondary ones. Side characters either help push the arc of the main character forward, add conflict to the mix, or serve as support for the show’s lead, but more often than not, these side characters end up stealing the spotlight.

In many cases, side characters become so popular that they end up sharing the spotlight with the show’s main character, and many characters originally planned for a couple of episodes end up staying for longer (such as Chris Pratt’s Any Dwyer in...

Canadian Wildfires Won’t Impact Banff World Media Festival
Image
The Banff World Media Festival isn’t expected to feel the heat of the Canadian wildfires next week, Variety has confirmed.

Organizers say there’s currently no harmful air pollution present in Banff, which is in Alberta, on the western side of Canada, and that the annual TV festival isn’t making any changes to its scheduled programming, as of press time on Friday.

Banff is set to kick off on June 11 and will run through to June 14. The event takes place at the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel, a scenic spot nestled in the Rocky Mountains and overlooking Lake Louise. Most of the festival takes place indoors, though its annual “Banff BBQ” takes place off-site.

That event is being transformed into the “Paramount+ Lodge Party” this year, and is unlikely to include open fires given the high fire risk.

Wildfires are currently blazing across Canada, with the worst hit areas...

Digman! Trailer: Andy Samberg Is A Washed-Up Indiana Jones Type In Animated Comedy Show
Image
Everyone's favorite globe-trotting, brown jacket-wearing, and ethically dubious archaeologist is returning to the spotlight. That's right: 12 years after being fired by the Smithsonian, Rip Digman is coming out of retirement and eager to prove he's still got what it takes to be a world-class "Archie." To quote the man, the myth, the legend himself in the newly-unveiled "Digman!" trailer, "The only dating I'm interested in ... is carbon dating."

"Digman!," which is set to drop on Comedy Central a few months before that so-called world-renowned professor of archeology, Dr. Henry Walton Jones, Jr., heads out for his final adventure in "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," is an adult animated comedy series created by Andy Samberg and Neil Campbell. The duo previously worked together on the Samberg-led "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" (where Campbell served as both a supervising producer and staff writer), and seem to have carried the beloved sitcom's irreverent, progressive...
