Having already commanded the screen in this year’s hit Netflix movie Rebel Ridge, Aaron Pierre will look to do the same as John Stewart in Lanterns, the new Dcu series that James Gunn says is slated to release at some point in 2026. Before we get there, though, Pierre recently shared how he was introduced to Stewart in the first place, and it’s all thanks to a beloved animated series that’s still held up as the gold standard of superhero shows.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly about his upcoming role in Lanterns, of which he said he "can't wait to get to work" on, the 30-year-old English actor revealed that he was just a kid when he first met Green Lantern, thanks to a short-lived Cartoon Network series that only lasted 39 episodes. Perhaps it’s one you’ve heard of?
I think Justice League Unlimited might have been one...

While you might not think it, given the movie's slow-burning plot, and hand-to-hand fight scenes, Rebel Ridge features well over 500 VFX shots which were hidden in plain sight. The new movie, directed and written by Jeremy Saulnier and starring Aaron Pierre, has been a smash hit for Netflix, boasting a strong 96% Rotten Tomatoes score and rushing to the top of the streamer's Top 10 chart. As the tension draws to a head, Terry Richmond (Pierre) unleashes brutal vengeance on the corrupt police officers who inadvertently caused his brother's death. The scene is filled with brutal fight choreography and, far more surprisingly, a lot of visual effects.
Speaking to Art of VFX, Rebel Ridge's VFX artist, Chris Connolly, discussed the process of implementing the movie's secret VFX. Of course, no sharknadoes or Scorpion Kings appear in the finale, but CGI was used to enhance the on-screen violence. The smoke grenades Terry launches at the police,...

Jeremy Saulnier, the director responsible for Netflix's hit action thriller Rebel Ridge, has said that he's already working on his next film. Unfortunately, for those digging his latest feature, he isn't working on a sequel to Rebel Ridge, or something remotely touching on the same genre. Apparently, he has decided to go back to his less "sober" roots.
The director appeared on The Playlist podcast, where he expanded on the screenplay he's currently writing. Saulnier has decided to return to the tone of previous projects like Green Room and his first feature, Murder Party, and take a more fun approach to his unique storytelling style. Per Saulnier's statement:
"Im currently writing something thats a little more in the Green Room universe. Because with Rebel Ridge, I was exploring a new side. I was just tired of everything I do being oppressive. But Ive kinda gone back. It has to...

Netflix looks to continue its action movie hot streak with the upcoming martial arts epic, Uprising, with a new trailer teasing a bloody tale of two childhood friends turned adversaries during the Korean Joseon dynasty. If that short summary is not already enough to pique your interest, perhaps the fact that the writer and director behind the 2003 revenge classic Oldboy, Park Chan-wook, is on board as a co-writer and producer will.
You can check out the trailer and synopsis for Uprising below.
In the Joseon Dynasty, two friends who grew up together one the master and one the servant reunite post-war as enemies on opposing sides.
The footage teases a seriously epic action spectacle, taking audiences on a gripping journey as two childhood friends turn against each other. Cheon Yeong, a slave renowned for his skills in martial arts, and Jong Ryeo, a martial arts master from one a hugely influential military bloodline,...

Wasted potential haunts this film with an interesting premise that falls apart. Unsubtle political allegory and lack of scares make History of Evil a disappointment. Shallow ideology and lack of emotional depth leave viewers unsatisfied with this failed horror-thriller.
Bad movies are a dime a dozen; you forget about them the same day you watch them, with little to no resentment. But bad movies with wasted potential — those are the tough ones. It's frustrating and disappointing to watch a film completely crumble when it had all the right ingredients to be interesting. That's unfortunately the case with the pseudo-horror film History of Evil, a title that should've been reserved for a much better film; like the rest of the movie, the title bites off more than it can chew. It's a political thriller mixed with haunted house horror elements, like if The Shining and Children of Men had a baby,...

In the new trailer for the dystopian thriller History of Evil, Paul Wesley and Jackie Cruz are on the run from a dystopian government...but their sanctuary may be even more deadly. The film takes place in the near future when a fascist, theocratic government has taken over the United States. Those who defy the government and join the Resistance are labeled political terrorists, and forced into hiding. Cruz plays Alegre Dyer, a Resistance member who escapes from prison and goes on the run with her husband Ron (Wesley) and daughter Daria; while waiting for extraction, an ally puts them up in a rural home with a long and disturbing history. As the government closes in on their hiding place, a more horrific evil may be welling up from within...

Low budget police drama meets camp biblical nonsense – demons and the horsemen of the apocalypse. To me The Demonologist sounds like a lot of fun (albeit the title sounds like a failed course from a failing university).
I have a soft spot for under paid, over worked (fictional) professional monster hunters. Be they John Constantine (in the comics), Giles from Buffy or Harry Dresden (in the books). I love these grumpy, surly individuals that ultimately end up doing the right thing when the stakes are stacked high enough against them.
Which takes us nicely into talking about The Demonologist. This is very much an origin story. Our “Demonologist” starts out as just another cliched,...

Starr Carter is constantly switching between two worlds: the poor, mostly black, neighborhood where she lives and the rich, mostly white, prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Now, facing pressures from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right.
George Tillman, Jr’s The Hate U Give, at its fingertips, has the powerful visual/thematic resonation and emotional intensity of any masterpiece in African American cinema that has come before it. Evoking the cultural implications in...

"Drones - those things are evil." Syfy Films has debuted a new official trailer for an interesting sci-fi film titled Hover, about a drone-filled future where A.I. drones operate as police to manage the few humans left after a deadly, catastrophic drought. Finally, we have the one of the first ever films about evil drones! Well, there's probably been a few others, but now they've made a cheesy Syfy one about bad police drones in a dystopian future. Hover stars Cleopatra Coleman, who also wrote the screenplay, and features Shane Coffey, Craig muMs Grant, Fabianne Therese, Rhoda Griffis, Leo Fitzpatrick, Beth Grant, and Rhonda Johnson Dents. This unfortunately doesn't look that good, surprise surprise from Syfy, but it is still an interesting concept for a film. And they're actually giving it a theatrical release anyway. Take a look. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Matt Osterman's Hover,...

The original Joe Dirt became something of a cult classic on DVD, even moreso in our household where it gets watched at least every other month… For some reason that underdog tale of a man beaten down by life but refusing to take it, living everday to its potential really struck a chord. But the same can’t be said for the sequel, which is essentially a parody of It’s a Wonderful Life, making a mockery of the first film and the character, in a movie that feels like it was made more for the cast to have fun and work than for the audience to enjoy.
Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser picks up...
