Joseph Giles
- Actor
Joseph Marcellus Giles was born and raised in Oakland, CA. by a single Mother (Mary Louise Giles), his
older sister (Wilma Giles), as well as his "village" (Grandfather: John Douglas Griffin Sr. aka J.D., Grandmother:
Rachel Griffin, and Uncles: John and Roy Griffin. He was taught many lessons but the main two were: "Keep
God first!" and "Don't let anyone steal your joy!" Those lessons allowed him to become a micro-molecular
a biologist by the time he turned 19, through a program called Bridges at Cal State Hayward. Around this time,
he accidentally stumbled into an acting career (actually modeling) due to his sister wanting to model and him
being a very protective little brother! He found himself taking runway classes in San Francisco, where they
threw him into commercial and theatrical training despite his protests. Through these classes, he was
entered into several competitions from NY to LA where in 2000, he won 1st place in modeling and 2nd in acting
at LA's Best New Talent! After being sidelined with Graves Disease, it took four years for it to be regulated, but
once it was, he moved to LA in 2004 without looking back. In 2006 he found the place that would nurture,
shape, and mold him into an Actor. The Van Mar Academy ran by the late Ivan Markota, and with great
teachers Steve Cardwell, Tony Boldi, Adrian Carr, and RJ, it was like another family. Joseph would work his
job, come to classes, and talk them into allowing him to stay late, sometimes past 3 am just practicing,
sharpening his tools and just becoming obsessed with the craft. Within two years he booked the lead in a
television pilot, became SAG Eligible, and three days after the pilot was shot, he was in a horrible car accident
which took him three years of being in-house to recover. During that time, he finally found his "voice."
Joseph learned that he was a dynamic poet, speaker, and writer. He has volunteered his voice to several nonprofit
organizations from Operation Safe House (which helps at-risk and homeless youths) to A Quater Blue (which is
a trauma recovery center, but its core focus is child abuse prevention, protection, and therapy). Joseph also
served as a keynote speaker for the California Coalition for Youth in the state capital of California.
There is truly no such thing as a straight line when it comes to life, it's been a roller coaster of a ride from managing since he was sixteen in the food industry from The Oakland Coliseum, to running events at Descanso Gardens, to being a GM at a few restaurants (Skylight Gardens and Playa Provisions), to being background and standing in for actors in movies and television...he has never let anything steal his Joy!
Now, he is the father of two beautiful little girls (Rachel and Lilly), which is the reason he breathes. Joseph is currently working on starting his own production company "Day By Day Productions" with his producing partner Erica Ikeda where they are currently working on a television pilot as their first project. Their mission is to bring back classics. They love the art of storytelling, and every project will show that because they will all have heart!
