Et Tu Review: The Show Must Go On, By Any Means Necessary
Image
The pressure of the stage is a universal truth, a crucible where art is forged in ego, ambition, and quiet desperation. The tradition stretches from the amphitheatres of Greece to the boards of the Globe and into every regional playhouse today.

Et Tu places this timeless conflict within a modern American theater, transforming a production of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar into the backdrop for a darkly comedic psychological spiral. The film centers on Brent, a director portrayed with simmering intensity by Lou Diamond Phillips, who finds himself pushed to his professional and mental limits by a hopelessly flawed cast.

His solution to the problem is both shocking and grimly logical within the movie’s satirical world: if the actors cannot be fixed, they must be removed. The story posits that the old theatrical warning, “the show must go on,” is not merely a statement of resilience but a command that might demand a blood sacrifice.

Lou Diamond Phillips Finds the Fault Is Not in Our Stars, But in His Props Master, in New 'Et Tu' Clip [Exclusive]
Image
Everyone who's ever trod the boards knows that Macbeth is the most cursed of all William Shakespeare's plays, but in the new black comedy thriller Et Tu, a production of Julius Caesar turns out to be no less ill-starred. In a new Collider-exclusive clip, director Brent takes his frustration out on his hapless props master. The film will premiere on digital and on-demand on July 25.

The film, which is named after Caesar's famous dying declaration, "Et tu, Brute?", centers around a woeful production that threatens to end in more mayhem and bloodshed than the Bard ever imagined. In the clip, Brent confronts his props master, Vicky (Jaclyn Mofid), wondering what the purpose of a props master even is, once everyone has their props and knows what to do with them. Before she can mount a defense, he relates that, on every production he's ever mounted, the props master...

Exclusive: ‘Et Tu’ Clip Demands Consistency… Or Else
Image
Fresh off the release of his found footage film, Found Footage: The Making of the Patterson Project, writer and director Max Tzannes has another film hitting VOD this summer: Et Tu, a horror comedy about the hells of local theater.

In the film:

Brent (Phillips) is not a happy director. For weeks, he’s had to watch an awful play – his awful play. Adding insult to injury, he’s convinced his wife is having an affair with his idiot leading man. Fortunately for Brent, the theater’s Janitor (McDowell) has been mopping the stage long enough to know a dark secret that may help rid him of his troubles. That is, so long as he’s willing to get some blood on his hands.

In our exclusive clip, Brent confronts his leading man, knife in hand…

Watch now:

Lou Diamond Phillips (Courage Under Fire), Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange), Isabella Blake-Thomas...

Lou Diamond Phillips & Malcolm McDowell in Comedy 'Et Tu' Trailer
Image
"For the good of the theatre..." Buffalo 8 has revealed an official trailer for an indie dark comedy called Et Tu, a reference to the classic line "Et tu, Brute?" from Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar. The film is the first feature film directed by Max Tzannes, and it premiered back in 2023 at the Heartland Film Festival. After making this, he went on to direct the meta bigfoot movie Found Footage: Patterson Project. Both films are just now releasing back-to-back this summer. A director is driven to madness during a regional production of Julius Caesar. Every night for the past three weeks Brent has had to watch an awful play; his awful play, along with a small audience of local patrons in an old theater you've never heard of. Fortunately for Brent, that old theater you've never heard of, employs a Janitor who's been mopping the stage for a very long time...

Lou Diamond Phillips Gets Murderous Over Stageplay in ‘Et Tu’ Trailer
Image
Lou Diamond Phillips stars as a homicidal stage director tempted to give in to his killer instincts in the new trailer for Et Tu.

Et Tu releases on Digital from Buffalo 8 on July 25, 2025.

“Brent is not a happy director. For weeks, he’s had to watch an awful play – his awful play. Adding insult to injury, he’s convinced his wife is having an affair with his idiot leading man. Fortunately for Brent, the theater’s janitor has been mopping the stage long enough to know a dark secret that may help rid him of his troubles. That is, so long as he’s willing to get some blood on his hands.”

The new trailer below injects pitch-black comedy in a psychological thriller, introducing Phillips’ Brent at his wits end with his cast during a production of William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. Based on the title, betrayal feels inevitable. And deadly.

Review: Found Footage: The Making Of The Patterson Project is a Middling Mockumentary
Image
There's a lot going on in Max Tzannes' Found Footage: The Making of the Patterson Project. A faux-documentary comedy about an indie film crew shooting a found footage movie becomes a “real” supernatural horror setup. It's a meta-horror Gobstopper, but the transition between layers can be jarring. With minimal resources and a tight ninety minutes, Found Footage tries to be an all-encompassing and scary industry satire—it's just soft, safe, and baseline amusing.

Brennan Keel Cook stars as an uber-confident filmmaker (Chase) with dreams of producing the world's greatest found footage horror novelty. The subtitle "Patterson Project" references Roger Patterson's now-infamous footage of Bigfoot, also known as the Patterson-Gimlin tape. Chase's foolproof idea is to shoot a handheld-style Bigfoot movie and get noticed by Blumhouse, as many indie horror filmmakers have foolishly fantasized. Instead, Chase's crew unknowingly unleashes a haunting in his partner Natalie's (Erika Vetter) family timeshare...

Found Footage: The Making of the Patterson Project (2025) Movie Review: An Inconsistent Meta Horror-Comedy Film Blurring the Lines Between Fiction and Reality
Image
Directed by Max Tzannes, “Found Footage: The Making of the Patterson Project” (2025) is a mockumentary that follows an amateur filmmaker’s journey to make a found-footage horror film about Bigfoot. The genre, by definition, is about blurring the lines between fiction and reality. It allows the audience to enter a world within a world and to scrutinize the nature of everything they see on the screen. Within that narrative, Tzannes introduces found footage horror, another genre known for a similar effect. It relies on our suspension of disbelief and impacts only when we believe in its facade. Whether it’s “The Blair Witch Project” or any of its successors, these films depend on making us believe in their facade — that it is ‘discovered’ footage, not a designed one.

Tzannes utilizes their interconnectedness in his mockumentary that starts on a note eerily similar to Chris Smith’s “American Movie.” Smith’s...

However, even as a To, Nolan is still very much learning.

The Rookie follows John Nolan, a small-town man who embarks on a new career as an LAPD officer after a life-changing event. As the force's oldest rookie, Nolan faces skepticism from superiors who view his pursuit as a midlife crisis.

In the Season 7 premiere of The Rookie, John (Nathan Fillion) assures everyone that he is okay. His shooting while trying to capture Monica Stevens has left little in the way of physical damage. 'The Rookie' Begins Season 7 with a Big Achievement
Image
Although The Rookie is in its seventh season, it hasn't lost any momentum in terms of popularity and viewership. The ABC series has reached the #1 spot on the streaming service Hulu, showing that people are more invested than ever in the Nathan Fillion-led series. The police procedural drama has slowly grown in popularity as the story has evolved past Fillion's character being an older rookie, with the show introducing new recruits while showing the original rookies coming into their own as police officers.

The series, which was created by Alexi Hawley, was initially inspired by the true story of William Norcross before the series began to veer off into various other storylines. The rise to the top of the streaming charts undoubtedly has to do with the seventh season premiere on January 7. Titled "The Shot," the episode features plenty of high stakes while introducing new rookies. Season 6 of the series only had 10 episodes,...

Fast Charlie Review | Pierce Brosnan Sports a Southern Twang in Breezy Crime Thriller
Image
Pierce Brosnan drops his Irish elocution for a Southern twang in a breezy crime thriller with unexpected dark humor. Fast Charlie, adapted from the novel Gun Monkeys by Victor Gischler, has a hit man with a penchant for Italian cooking seeking vengeance after a ruthless competitor attacks his crew. The film also marks the final performance of legendary actor James Caan, who portrays Stan Mullen, a crime boss and Brosnan's surrogate father of sorts. Fast Charlie isn't extraordinary but has solid action, good cast chemistry, and enough macabre chuckles to warrant a recommendation.

In Biloxi, Mississippi, Charlie Swift (Brosnan) walks half-naked around a junkyard with his hands in the air. Charlie's voice-over narration starts the flashback to recount events leading to his dire predicament. Several weeks earlier, Charlie dons a suit and jumps in his Cadillac for a job. A well-dressed Charlie means that someone is about to be killed.

Christian Bale at an event for The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Christian Bale plays an 1830s detective tasked with solving a series of grisly, possibly cult-related murders in Netflix’s ice-cold thriller, “The Pale Blue Eye.” Watch the first trailer above.

Scott Cooper’s film, which the streamer acquired last year in a 55 million deal, takes place at West Point Academy, a military training school. When a cadet turns up dead, its leadership turns to Augustus Landor (Bale) for help – a local detective who, if rumors are true, “once elicited a confession with nothing more than a piercing look”.

The trailer opens on a wintry landscape, where Landor contemplates the crime at hand – a soldier has been hanged, with his heart expertly cut out from his chest.

The Pale Blue Eye: Christian Bale gothic mystery reveals Edgar Allen Poe origin in new trailer
Image
Christian Bale reunites with his Out of the Furnace director, Scott Cooper, for a new Netflix film that uncovers the origins of Edgar Allen Poe. Cooper is a director that likes to emphasize atmosphere in his movies, helming films such as Crazy Heart and Black Mass; none of his movies are picturesque nor glamorous. “We are all influenced by our surroundings, our atmosphere, the environments in which we live,” the director says as he takes a similar approach with his new gothic film, The Pale Blue Eye.

The official Netflix synopsis for the film reads,

“West Point, 1830. In the early hours of a gray winter morning, a cadet is found dead. But after the body arrives at the morgue, tragedy becomes savagery when it’s discovered that the young man’s heart has been skillfully removed. The Pale Blue Eye Trailer: Christian Bale Meets Edgar Allan Poe
Image
Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Christian Bale's latest, "The Pale Blue Eye," which also represents another collaboration for him with director Scott Cooper. Bale, who is coming off of this summer's "Thor: Love and Thunder," previously worked with Cooper on movies like "Out of the Furnace" and "Hostiles." This time? They're headed back to the 1800s for a mystery that ties into the king of old-time gothic spookiness, Edgar Allan Poe.

In this case, the legendary author behind "The Raven" and "The Masque of the Red Death" is played by Harry Melling, of "The Queen's Gambit" fame. So, how is it that Poe crosses paths with a man trying to solve a murder? Let's have a look-see.

Bale Meets Poe In The Pale Blue Eye Trailer

‘Take the Night’ Review: With a Crypto Fortune on the Line, This Kidnapping Is No Joke
Image
“Prank kidnapping” is one of those concepts so inherently alarm-triggering, one fully expects the phrase to be followed by “gone wrong” — which indeed is the case in “Take the Night,” a first feature for writer-director-producer-star Seth McTigue. This solid little thriller does a good job balancing character drama and suspense elements, its smooth craftsmanship belying the creator’s newbie status in multiple creative roles. Saban Films is opening the film on seven U.S. screens July 8, though it’s more likely to find its audience via release to digital and on demand platforms on July 12.

A prologue introduces Robert Chang (Sami Li), a serious-minded youth who’s the new CEO of multinational corporation Chang Import following his father’s death. That promotion is a notable sore spot for older brother William (Roy Huang), who was pointedly passed over — and one can see why, since he’s bratty and irresponsible, as well as resentful.
