Pop duo Tegan and Sara and comedy-music trio The Lonely Island will perform the Oscar-nominated song "Everything Is Awesome" at the 87th Oscars, show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced today. The Oscars, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, will air on Sunday, February 22, live on ABC. says Zadan and Meron:

"Tegan and Sara and The Lonely Island?... Everything Is Awesome, indeed. This is certainly an 'Only on the Oscars' moment."

"Everything Is Awesome," written by Shawn Patterson for the animated feature The Lego Movie, is nominated for Original Song. Well, co-director Phil Lord is not letting the disappointing news get the best of him. Instead, he's taken it upon himself to bestow his talented crew with their very own unique award. Warner Bros. is putting a Lego Batman movie spinoff from this year's blockbuster The Lego Movie on the fast track for production, with the project taking precedence over The Lego Movie 2, which has been pushed back from its already announced May 26, 2017 release date.

Will Arnett is set to reprise his voice role as Batman from The Lego Movie, with director Chris McKay, who signed on to direct The Lego Movie 2 back in March, now set to direct this Batman spin-off. Author-screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith is providing the screenplay.

The studio is eyeing a 2017 release for this Batman spin-off, which may take The Lego Movie 2's now-vacated May 26, 2017 release date. Warner Bros. already set a September 23, 2016 release date for another spin-off, Ninjago. It isn't known when exactly The Lego Movie 2 will hit theaters, but it will presumably happen some time after 2017.

Last month, we reported that the studio was mulling over whether or not to make The Lego Movie 2 or Lego Ninjago first. The studio is still considering plans for a Lego Ninjago movie, but nothing has been set in stone yet. Chris McKay has signed onto direct a straight sequel at this time. We reported last month that this sequel was moving forward with a script by Jared Stern (The Internship) and Michelle Morgan (Nancy Drew), with Warner Bros. setting a May 26, 2017 release date. The Lego Movie has made over $360 million worldwide since its release on February 7.

Original The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are producing the sequel, although no voice cast members have been confirmed yet.

When actors sign on to portray animated characters, most fans think they just record their dialogue and that's it. However, there is much more to the process, as Chris Pratt explains in a new featurette for The Lego Movie. The actor provides the voice of Lego builder Emmet, who is chosen to lead a team of heroes to stop an evil tyrant from destroying their universe. Although the character is just a tiny figure, the voice actor explains how his recording sessions were also captured on video, so that the animators could implement his facial expressions into Emmet.
