Amid the glut of corporate biopics we’ve had on our screens of late — “Air,” “BlackBerry,” “Flamin’ Hot” and so on — one for leading French champagne house Veuve Clicquot is more appealing than most. Champagne itself is sexier than a running shoe or a smartphone, for one thing, while the sinuous vineyards of 19th-century Reims are a more seductive setting for a brand-building story than a squat office block in Beaverton. “Widow Clicquot” certainly makes a virtue of its milieu and rolling landscape, richly shot throughout in dusky earth tones, and more substantively, of the rather romantic lore surrounding the widow in question.
Aged just 27 when her husband died, leaving her his ailing winery, Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin Clicquot resisted buyout offers from male competitors, instead transforming it into a thriving international champagne business — the first of its kind to be run by a woman. All that, and she allegedly invented rosé champagne,...

In the final episode of Vikings: Valhalla, the age of seafaring and ax-waving ends in a blaze of glory.
Flames begin to erupt around Scandinavian spiritual warrior Freydís Eiríksdóttir (Frida Gustavsson) as she delivers an impassioned speech while tied to a stake. “Hear me now, rise up and protect us from this heresy. Strike down your anger and redden these walls with blood!”
The pagan leader escapes death once again with the help of her cunning brother Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), the legendary explorer whose exploits alongside Norwegian prince Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter) propelled the three globetrotting seasons of Vikings: Valhalla.
The main trio’s return to Kattegat, the fictional Viking village where the series began, was all part of creator Jeb Stuart’s plan. “[Leif] sets off to be an explorer when he brings his sister to Kattegat in the very opening episode,” Stuart tells Tudum. “And then he...

The following article contains spoilers for Vikings: Valhalla season 3.
It’s the end of an era: Vikings: Valhalla has passed on to the great medieval banquet in the sky. The Netflix series, a spinoff of the popular History Channel drama Vikings, catapulted the story several hundred years into the future to follow the stories of some of the most famous figures from the Icelandic legends and sagas. Full of epic battle sequences, a sprawling cast of characters, and a focus on the increasing tension between politics and religion, the series may have some dodgy bits when it comes to historical accuracy, but it’s certainly an exciting ride.
Netflix announced that the third season of Valhalla would be the series’ last earlier this year, though it doesn’t always feel as though this run of episodes was necessarily meant to serve as the show’s conclusion. Thankfully, whether this was...

There are five main abdominal muscles in the human body. And in Vikings: Valhalla, each and every one of them is on display.
The bare-chested Nordic brawlers flaunt a veritable gallery of abs. You can witness the whole set: the external and internal obliques, the transversus abdominis and rectus abdominis, and the pyramidalis. This constellation of musculature gets so much screen time, it deserves its own end credit.
It’s a familiar scene across seasons: A tunic-less Harald (Leo Suter) arrives to a fight, showcasing a sculptural stomach in the exact formation of King’s Hawaiian sweet dinner rolls. And like those bulging bread buns, he, too, is buttered up.

Before Harald Sigurdsson became king of Norway, he was a military commander who fought ruthless battles and traveled far from Scandinavia. In , the legendary warrior comes to life 100 years after the original Vikings series took place. Now in its final season, this last chapter captures the end of the Viking Age as they fight for survival, seek revenge on the English royals, and clash over their conflicting Christianity and pagan beliefs. Season 3 takes Harald to Constantinople, where he becomes a military leader and guard for the Byzantine emperor, and a rival to general George Maniakes (played by real heavyweight fighter Florian Munteanu).
For English actor Leo Suter, taking on the merciless — and bloody — role wasn’t a simple feat.

Vertical has unveiled an official trailer for the film titled Widow Clicquot, a US project even though it's about a French woman and the art of making champagne in France. This initially premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival last year, and it also played at the 2024 Sonoma Film Festival earlier this year, because of course a wine movie played there. Under her (controversial) ownership, and her skill with wine, the company developed early champagne using a novel technique called riddling. The film focuses on her...
