‘The Village’ Series Review: Prime Video’s Sci-fi Drama Is High On Concept But Low On Execution
Image
The regional cinema hailing from the southern part of India has ventured into fantasy fiction and sci-fi drama, and so far, they have managed to produce several mediocre products in this genre. The Village is a Tamil-language six-episode miniseries about a scientific experiment that went wrong and how it affected the entire population living in the place. Created and directed by Milind Rau, this show is a decent attempt to work around a genre that is tricky at best.

The Village is about a family of three who were on a road trip and decided to take the route less traveled. This decision almost cost them their lives. Gautham, his wife Neha, and daughter Maya did not expect to get sucked into the strangeness of the village Kattiyal. They were suddenly surrounded by mutants in the village, which is considered haunted by the people of the neighboring hamlets. Two men...

What happen when a simple family outing turns into living nightmare
Image
Unveiling its new trailer, the Tamil horror series ‘The Village’ has only amped up the creeps as horrifying mutants come out from the dark and hunt a family, turning a simple family outing into a living nightmare and a desperate fight for survival.

Inspired by writers Asvin Srivatsangam, Vivek Rangachari, and Shamik Dasgupta’s graphic horror novel of the same name, the series is nonetheless its own thing and is a fast-paced, action-packed story that takes the viewers deep into the desolate hinterlands of Tamil Nadu and into the village of Kattiyal.

Going out on a simple family road trip, protagonist Gautham (played by Arya) and his family encounter a living form of horror which turns out to be worse than their worst nightmare. The origins of these mutants is not fully known though they may be some creation spawned by black magic, as is implied.

As his family is taken from him,...

A fight against ghoulish abominations, ‘The Village’ teaser is a horror spectacle
Image
The teaser for the upcoming Tamil horror series ‘The Village’ is ominous and terrifying. A fight against ghouls, dark abominations, as well as elements of the occult, the series is a full on horror spectacle.

The short clip shows a lot of high class VFX, practical effects, and ghoulish make-up with a very haunting atmosphere. Rooted in a village, the monsters that strike are some of the most ferocious and bestial abominations there are, while there also seems to be some kind of black magic thing on, indicating occult practices.

Series director and creative producer Milind Rau spoke of the series and said: “I believe a good horror series or movie is one that can leave you terrified to step out alone at night, where the sound of a twig snapping makes your heart skip a beat, where shadows appear to come alive around you. And I want to bring...

Review: Jil Jung Juk Puts A Whimsical Twist On Indian Gangster Films
Deeraj Vaidy's freshmen directorial effort Jil Jung Juk is a balls to the wall, whacked out gangster comedy that has very little equal in the world of Indian cinema. Taking influences from all over the globe to craft his twisty, turny tale, Vaidy leaves it all on the screen in an effort to show Tamil film audiences something they haven't seen before. The result is an unusually ambitious tale of lowlifes looking for a big score while careening through a valley of deadbeats, backstabbers, and hired guns determined to stop them at any cost. While the end result is more than a little unwieldy in spots, I certainly left the cinema with a bigger smile on my face than the one I walked in with, and...

Siddharth Grabs A Gun In The Teaser For Jil Jung Juk
Two years ago Tamil film star Siddharth made a big splash with his performance as a desperate novice filmmaker in Karthik Subbaraj's magnificent Jigarthanda. Now he's back in Jil Jung Juk, a brand new crime comedy from director Deeraj Vaidy. Jil Jung Juk marks Siddharth's first foray into solo production with his new company Etaki Entertainments, and it looks like a fun one. While there isn't a whole lot of footage, and the information about the film floating around the net in English isn't terribly helpful, Siddharth's involvement in and of itself is something to have faith in. Prior to Jigarthanda, Siddharth had already created a nice niche space for himself between the Tamil blockbuster scene and the budding independent film industries in India. He followed...
