One of the funniest comedies of the 2000s will soon become available to watch for free as fans await its long-gestating film adaptation. The award-winning sitcom, Community, lands an imminent streaming debut on Tubi.

Tubi confirmed that Community will begin streaming on its free-of-charge service on Mar. 1. This is good news for fans of the hit series who aren't Peacock subscribers as the show has been available on the NBCUniversal streamer since last April. Also, it allows Tubi's growing viewership base to see the sitcom, considering over 97 million active users were on the Fox Corporation-owned service in 2024.

After being publicly fired from the show he created, it seemed Dan Harmon was done with "Community" forever. Rarely, if ever, had a mainstream U.S. television network rehired a volatile showrunner after parting ways with them. Then again, "Community" always had a David and Goliath spirit and a surprising resilience to it, so anything was possible. Still, when NBC and Sony Pictures TV decided to bring Harmon back and hand him the keys to his show once again after an underwhelming fourth season without him, Harmon didn't have time to take a victory lap. Exclusive: Prolific director-producer Randall Einhorn is remaining at ABC Studios, signing a new overall deal with the studio for an additional two years.

Einhorn will continue to develop scripted series via his newly relaunched Sad Unicorn production banner (fka Randall Einhorn Films), spearheaded by head of development Steven Lieb.

Under the new pact, he has sold two single-camera comedy projects for fall 2020 consideration, Us & Them to NBC and Married with Roommates to ABC. Both sold in a competitive situation with a penalty attached. Einhorn is executive producing and directing; ABC Studios is the studio.

Entertainment One will co-finance TriStar’s holiday-themed romantic comedy “Happiest Season,” starring Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis.

The rom-com centers on a young woman whose plan to propose to her girlfriend while at her family’s annual holiday party is upended when she discovers her partner has not yet come out to her conservative parents.

TriStar has set a U.S. release date of Nov. 20, 2020. EOne will handle distribution for the United Kingdom and Canada with TriStar Pictures distributing in all other territories.

“Happiest Season” is scheduled to begin production in January with Clea DuVall directing from a script she wrote with Mary Holland.

Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures has obtained the U.S. theatrical distribution rights to The Wedding Year, a romantic comedy led by Modern Family star Sarah Hyland, who also serves as an executive producer, and Tyler James Williams. Lakeshore Entertainment acquired the spec script written by television writer/producer Donald Diego and produced the film, which will open in the fall of this year.

Legally Blonde helmer Robert Luketic directed the pic. It tells the story of Mara Hickey (Hyland), an La photographer who has vowed never to get married. So, when she and her new ready-to-settle-down boyfriend (Williams) are invited to fifteen weddings in the same year, the pressure is on Mara to make some big decisions.

Rounding out the cast are Keith David, Patrick Warburton, Tom Connolly, Grace Helbig, Wanda Sykes, Jenna Dewan, Anna Camp, and Fred Grandy.

Lakeshore’s Gary Lucchesi, Marc Reid, and Mark Korshak are producers.

Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures has acquired the domestic rights to “The Wedding Year,” a romantic comedy starring “Modern Family” actress Sarah Hyland and “Dear White People” star Tyler James Williams, the studio announced Wednesday.

Although Community‘s largely been a lighter show in tone the last few weeks, the darkness of the show’s recent departures have lingered in the background – particularly with Abed, whose friendship with Troy was the show’s emotional center. It takes a little while to get there (thanks to the distracting, mostly pointless Shirley plot), but “Vcr Maintenance” uses a little bit of stunt casting to its advantage, accelerating the friction between Abed and Annie first seen in “Virtual Systems Analysis” (hence the nod to that episode in the image seen above), ultimately circling back to Abed and his ever-present fear of being left alone (as he says, sometimes it happens and he doesn’t even know why).
