Oppenheimer star Matthias Schweighfer is jazzed to play eccentric hit music producer Frank Farian, the German record producer who orchestrated the rise of '80s duo Milli Vanilli, subjects of the new biopic, Girl You Know Its True. But a pivotal moment arrived prior to the shoot when the actor actually had an opportunity to Zoom with Farian before the infamous producer passed away this year. As a producer, he acquired other songs from random groups and saw an opportunity with the young dancers Rob Pilatus and Fab Morvan, but he told them they could only lip-sync tracks in music videos.

Milli Vanilli became a Grammy-winning global phenomenon, dancing and lip-syncing another artist's songs, but Farian eventually outed the duo in what became one of the biggest music scandals in history. All of it intrigued Schweighfer going into the Zoom call with Farian. He was really interesting, the actor told MovieWeb in a recent interview.

The film is from director Vadim Perelman, whose credits include House Of Sand And Fog, which was nominated for three Oscars in 2004, and The Life Before Her Eyes, which was at Toronto in 2007. Set during the Second World War, the story follows a Jewish man who avoids being sent to a concentration camp by claiming to be Persian.
