Amazon is going to take a crack at Barbershop as a TV series two decades after the last attempt didn't work out so well. Though the Barbershop franchise has found success with several feature films, the hope is that a new series with Jermaine Fowler (Ricky Stanicky) on board will be a stremaing hit on Prime Video.
Per Deadline, it's been reported that Prime Video has officially ordered to series an all-new Barbershop show starring Fowler in the lead role. The series is based on the Barbershop films, and it comes from Marshall Todd, the co-writer of the original movie. Todd is writing and will executive produce alongside co-showrunner Max Searle (Dave). Other EPs include Hart, Bryan Smiley, and Mike Stein for Hartbeat; Bradley Gardner; Cameron Burnett, and Autumn Bailey-Ford for Prominent Productions; and State Street Pictures.

Barbershop is back in business.
Ahead of Amazon's upfront presentation on Monday, Amazon MGM Studios officially gave a series order to comedy series Barbershop, based on the 2000s film series of the same name, to stream on Prime Video. Marshall Todd, cowriter of the original 2002 film, is writing and executive-producing, with Kevin Hart's Hartbeat producing. Max Searle (Dave) is co-showrunner and executive producer.
Jermaine Fowler (Ricky Stanicky) stars as Travis “Trav” Porter, who endeavors to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, a legendary barber at the iconic “Calvin’s” barbershop in Chicago. And while the barbers are new, the shop remains just as lively, the customers just as argumentative, and the fades are still the dopest in the city — because at Calvin’s, the community comes together for way more than just a haircut.

Exclusive: After a long journey across broadcast, cable and streaming, defying the odds multiple times, Nasim Pedrad’s praised coming-of-age comedy series Chad is coming to an end. A spokesperson for the Roku Chanel, which released Chad’s second season, confirmed to Deadline that the streamer will not be proceeding with future seasons.
Roku originally had committed to taking on the finished but unaired second season of Chad (along with Season 1 repeats), so a Season 3 was considered a long shot but a possibility. It is now not happening, officially ending the show’s wild ride.

Well before it even dropped, Netflix's new show "Neon" found itself embroiled in a bit of controversy. After all, how could a show that follows the trials and tribulations of a young reggaetonero on his path to fame allegedly not include Puerto Rican voices in its conception when the island - along with Panama - helped to pioneer the genre and take it to new heights? Well, after a few course corrections and the participation of reggaeton leyenda Daddy Yankee himself, "Neon" is finally available to stream. And while the criticism about the reported lack of Puerto Rican participation was warranted, it doesn't tell the whole story of what the show's trying to achieve in the first place.
You see, "Neon" isn't a story about the perreo born in Puerto Rico. Nor is it a story about the reggae en Español produced by Panama. It is a story about the global,...

On Entourage, the central tension always involved the question of whether Vince was gonna do the movie. Only there was never really any tension, because of course Vince was gonna do the movie — or, if he didn’t, things would in some other way work out just fine for him, E, Turtle, and even Johnny Drama. Yet for a show with no real stakes and only a modest level of humor (especially if you weren’t amused by Ari screaming actionable insults at Lloyd), it ran for eight seasons. And a movie!

By now, the beats of an aspiring-musician saga are as familiar as those of a fairy tale. There’s the hungry young artist who seems marked for stardom long before the rest of the world has caught on. There’s the crappy starter apartment, and the glitzy industry parties, and the boardroom meetings with labels who don’t quite get it. There’s the moment when the hero hears his own song on the radio, and the moment when he caves to the temptations of fame, and the moment he’s made to decide to be true to himself.
Sometimes, in the darker iterations of this story, there’s also the spectacular crash after the meteoric rise; in the more thoughtful or incisive versions, there might be conversations about the limitations of his art or the compromises it demands or its impact on the world. But Neon is not that tale.

The hustle isn’t easy, but three friends are committed to doing it together in Netflix’s new Daddy Yankee-produced series, Neon.
The streamer released the trailer for the upcoming music comedy on Tuesday, which is set to feature a number of cameo appearances including Brray, Jon Z, Lyanno, Jowell, Ken-y, Jota Rosa, Villano Antillano and Daddy Yankee.
The series follows Tyler Dean Flores as Santi, a rising reggaeton artist who, alongside some old friends — Ness (Emma Ferreira) and Felix (Jordan Mendoza) — from small town Florida, and a brand new one, A&r rep Mia (Courtney Taylor), attempts to leave his mark on the Miami music scene.
The eight-episode comedy is a look at the hilarious and sometimes even harrowing realities of trying to make your dreams come true — whether it’s being the biggest star in reggaeton, a music manager, or a music video director — in the music industry.

Netflix’s official trailer for its upcoming Daddy Yankee-executive produced series “Neon” showed its star, Santi, (Tyler Dean Flores) is no “one-hit-wonder.”
“This is it, we’re moving to Miami,” says Felix (Jordan Mendoza) in the trailer’s opening.
“I’m going to be the biggest Reggaeton star in the world,” Santi chimes in.
And Santi means what he says, as he and his two friends Ness (Emma Ferreira) and Felix set their sights on South Florida to pursue their dreams of putting Santi on the map as a Reggaeton artist in the music industry — even it means preparing for the biggest meeting of their lives inside a gas station bathroom or living in a 2009 Toyota Corolla.
Despite the odds against them, “We have a plan,” says Ness, who acts as Santi’s manager alongside Felix, who serves as Santi’s creative director. Together, the trio is determined to...

Nasim Pedrad’s cringe comedy series “Chad” has been saved from certain death. The series, which aired its first season on TBS, will move to the Roku Channel for Season 2, IndieWire has confirmed.
In July, TBS pulled Season 2 from its programming schedule the day it was scheduled to premiere and confirmed to several outlets that the season would not air on the network. The show, which had already wrapped production on the season, was the highest profile consequence of restructuring at the channel following the Warner Bros. Discovery merger. The merger prompted the company, under the leadership of David Zaslav, to cut original scripted programming from TBS and other networks in its portfolio.

Exclusive: Chad has found a new home.
The second season of Nasim Pedrad’s coming-of-age comedy series will run on The Roku Channel after it was scrapped as part of the cost-cutting measures at Warner Bros. Discovery cable network TBS.
As Deadline revealed, Chad was one of a number of shows and movies — completed or in various stages of pre-production or production — that were dropped after CEO David Zaslav took charge of the combined company. While the others were permanently shelved to use as corporate tax write-downs, following a plea by Pedrad to the new TBS leadership, she and her team were allowed to shop the series.

Nasim Pedrad’s “Chad” was pulled from TBS’ programming hours before Season 2 of the comedy series was set to air on July 11, a spokesperson for the network confirmed to Variety.
According to the spokesperson, TBS is now looking for “the right home” for the series. As the news comes the day the premiere was scheduled, and a trailer has already been released, it’s clear that at least a significant portion, if not the entire season, has been shot and produced.
The pulling of “Chad” signals the continued demise of scripted content at TBS and TNT. As Variety reported exclusively in April, the Warner-owned cablers halted development of all new scripted projects as a result of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, leaving already-popular series like “Snowpiercer” hanging in the balance. TBS has renewed Nasim Pedrad’s “Chad” and the John Cena-Nicole Byer hosted “Wipeout” reboot for second seasons. Additionally, TruTV has picked up Season 2 of “Fast Foodies.”
“I am extremely proud of the incredible way we continue to connect with our audience,” Brett Weitz, the general manager of TBS, TNT and truTV said in a statement on Wednesday. “On TBS, TNT and truTV, 2021 is off to a fantastic start, boasting four of the top five comedies this year and five No. 1 series. The Writers Guild of America Awards were handed during a virtual ceremony on Sunday, March 21. But don’t base your Oscar predictions on these kudos. Every year a slew of Oscar-nominated scripts are deemed ineligible for consideration here due to guild guidelines. Indeed, over the past 12 years only 80 of the Writers Guild of America Awards nominees have numbered among the 120 screenplays that reaped Academy Awards bids. Scroll down for the 2021 Writers Guild of America Awards winners list.
Our odds predict that “Nomadland” will win Best Adapted Screenplay winner at the Oscars but it was not allowed to compete at the WGA Awards. Neither was another Oscar contender in that category: “The Father.” The guild did match the academy three-for-five in this category, with “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” “One Night in Miami” and “The White Tiger” competing at both. “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and “News of the World” round out the guild nominees.
