What We Found - Jennie Kermode - 16130
Oona Laurence
Marcus (Jordan Hall), Holly (Oona Laurence) and Grant (Julian Shatkin) have been friends for many years, but this is a difficult time for them. Not only are they on the verge of adolescence, with new emotions complicating what used to be straightforward, but the former two are about to start attending a new high school with a rough reputation whilst the latter goes to prep school. Marcus, small and nerdy, is used to being bullied and it's no surprise to anyone when it starts up again. To make matters worse, his older friend Cassie (Giorgia Whigham), one of few people in a position to help him, disappears.

There are lots of things going on here. Marcus has seen Cassie arguing with her boyfriend. Holly's parents fight all the time, so the kids are alert to what this might mean. But there's also drug dealing going on in the area, and a.

Precocious Indie Like Sunday, Like Rain Is as Fussy as Its Title
Julian Shatkin
Unsurprising given its laughably affected title, Like Sunday, Like Rain boasts what may be the most insufferably precocious protagonist in cinema history. Reggie (Julian Shatkin), a twelve-year-old boy genius, proclaims that art is dead, casually questions adult "mores," and composes classical music that he then practices on his cello in his Upper West Side mansion's empty indoor swimming pool. Actor-turned-writer/director Frank Whaley employs studied tracking shots and a mind-numbing piano theme to chart Reggie's quasi-romantic relationship with twentysomething Eleanor (Leighton Meester), who's hired by Reggie's cold, wealthy mom (Debra Messing) to be the kid's nanny. That job involves listening to Reggie prattle on about museum paintings and his vegan diet, al...

Frank Whaley
Watch: Leighton Meester Takes Charge in Exclusive 'Like Sunday, Like Rain' Trailer
Frank Whaley
Well-known actor Frank Whaley has taken another step behind the camera: "Like Sunday, Like Rain" stars Leighton Meester as a young, seemingly lost woman who is hired by a busy, rich mother (Debra Messing) to care for her son. The son is played by newcomer Julian Shatkin, who is earning accolades for his breakout performance. Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong also co-stars as a troubled boyfriend. The film's synopsis, courtesy of Monterey Media, reads: "Surrounded by wealth and living with abundant resources in Manhattan, 12-year-old cello prodigy and all around genius Reggie, lives a solitary, bookish life lacking only frequently absent parents and friends.  Estranged from family, having slacker boyfriend troubles, and fired from her waitressing job, sometimes musician 23-year-old Eleanor needs a new place to live and a new job. Fate winds her lovely fingers around these two lives to unexpectedly place the inexperienced Eleanor as the new au pair for a skeptical.
