HBO Max's The Penguin Casts Cristin Milioti As Sofia Falcone
Image
Spoilers ahead for "The Batman."

It's time to delve even deeper into Gotham City's crime-ridden underbelly. As you may have heard, we're getting a Penguin-based limited series from HBO Max as a spin-off of the Warner Bros. film "The Batman." Colin Farrell will reprise the role of Oswald Cobblepot in the series that will begin about a week after the film ended. Since the finale of "The Batman" had Gotham flooded and the criminal element left without a leader, things are likely going to be chaotic. Batman (Robert Pattinson) may have helped to save the day, but the aftermath of an event like that is going to shake things up and leave open a lot of avenues for crime to rear its ugly head again.

The Penguin is a major player in the Gotham underground, but he's not alone. He's got a rival in Sofia Falcone, daughter of the late Carmine Falcone,...

Hocus Pocus' Sanderson Sisters Had A Talk Show
Image
Hocus Pocus may have finally gotten a sequel, but before that, the Sanderson Sisters reunited to host a Halloween-themed talk show. Debuting in 1993, Hocus Pocus introduced the delightfully sinister Sanderson sisters, Winifred, Mary, and Sarah. It took almost thirty years, but the Sanderson coven’s popularity soared with each Halloween season and eventually resulted in theme park attractions, sequels, and merchandise as Disney fully embraced its wicked trio.

Hocus Pocus 2 was not the first time in the decades-long wait that the Sanderson sisters reconvened for their beloved audiences. Arguably, next to the Hocus Pocus novel, the closest thing audiences had to a sequel for years was an animated talk show that saw the Sanderson sisters return after a 25-year absence. As clever as it was entertaining, the Hocus Pocus talk show was the first time in ages that the Disney movie had new content. If it hadn’t been...

Review: Batman: The Long Halloween Part 2
Image
The acclaimed maxiseries from Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale was wisely produced as two animated feature films. Batman: The Long Halloween Part 1 was a real treat, one of the best productions from Warner Animation in quite some time. As a result, expectations were high for a satisfying Batman: The Long Halloween Part 2, out on disc tomorrow. Unfortunately, it proved to be very much a letdown.

In part one, we have a Batman (Jensen Ackles) still in the early portion of his career, learning to think and be a detective as he worked with Commissioner Gordon (Billy Burke) and Da Harvey Dent (Josh Duhamel) to find the Holiday Killer, who used celebrations to mask a series of murders. The Caped Crusader was aided by Catwoman (Naya Rivera), who was more sidekick and romantic interest than foil. The murders exacerbated the rivalry between Carmine “The Roman” Falcone (Titus Welliver) and Sal Maroni...

‘Batman: The Long Halloween, Part Two’ Blu-ray Review
Image
Features the voices of: Jensen Ackles, Billy Burke, Josh Duhamel, Troy Baker, Naya Rivera, David Dastmalchian | Written by Tim Sheridan | Directed by Chris Palmer

Batman: The Long Halloween, Part Two picks up almost immediately after the teaser at the end of Part One. Bruce Wayne is under the spell of Poison Ivy and Batman nowhere to be found. At least until Catwoman intervenes.

But even as he’s recovering from three months under her influence other problems are plaguing a crime ravaged Gotham City. District Attorney Harvey Dent is being pushed to the edge by his job and the toll it’s taking on his marriage. And the continuing spree of The Holiday Killer has pushed Carmine Falcone to make some dangerous alliances with the likes of Poison Ivy and The Mad Hatter (John Dimaggio). That does not sit well with his daughter Sofia.

Returning director Chris Palmer (Superman: Man...

Gotham City's greatest hero faces a cunning adversary that forces him to confront his family's legacy.
