Blair Beeken, Katy Fullan and Shay Rudolph will star in Doron Max Hagay’s feature film debut, “She Keeps Me Young,” a dark comedy that explores what happens when a teenage girl unwittingly challenges the friendship of two grown women.

Alt-comedy triumvirate John Early, Kate Berlant and Patti Harrison round out the cast, alongside Nik Dodani, Ayden Mayeri and Greta Titelman. The film, which is currently in production in Los Angeles, is described as “an exploration of the small decisions that shape our lives, and the parts of ourselves we so often choose to give up.”

Set in and around a shopping center in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley, “She Keeps Me Young” centers on Michelle, a woman adrift and floating through life after a tragic accident. She spends most of her time with her overbearing best friend, Kelly, who encourages her to date cute guys, take dance classes and...

Image

Directed by Ben Kitnick, the film follows an obnoxious loser who, having missed out on his cult’s long awaited ritual suicide, teams up with his bogus ex-messiah to rebuild their doomsday commune. Traveling together through middle America, the constantly-bickering duo induct a military wannabe, a mentally unstable mom, and a mysterious foreign hitchhiker into their cult… but will this family of outcasts fulfill their transcendent destiny, or decide this life might be worth living after all?

Released by Dark Sky Films in October, the film should see a major boost in viewership in its Hulu debut. Pic also features well-known comedians including Joe Pera, Tom Papa and Robert Kelly, as well as Ethan Suplee, Wes Haney,...

Let's Start a Cult Poster Reveals Stavros Halkias' Demented New Comedy
Image
Join Chip Harper on a hilarious journey to rebuild his doomsday cult in the wild indie comedy, Let's Start a Cult. Director Ben Kitnick delivers big-budget comedy vibes with indie values, featuring a talented cast and a unique storyline. With this film, Star Stavros Halkias continues to prove why he's one of the funniest comedians of the moment.

Have you ever been ditched by your buddies? Just downright ghosted by your gals? It's a sucky feeling, one that Chip Harper knows very well. It's the year 2000 and his beloved cult, The Cosmic Dynasty, has "transcended" (aka suicided) without him. He's always been the black sheep of the freaky family, a buffoonish loser, if you will, and it makes for a hilarious character well-suited for Stavros Halkias, one of the funniest and most charismatic comedians of the moment. He's fresh off a great, naturalistic performance in the Netflix series Tires, and...

Man Under Table review – microbudget meta comedy makes fun of itself
Noel David Taylor in Intervene (2018)
Noel David Taylor writes, directs and stars in an inventively absurdist feature debut about a jealous screenwriter on the fringes of the indie movie-making scene

At one point, the screenwriter protagonist of this microbudget meta comedy observes to the shady producer he’s working with that “this isn’t really a movie, just a bunch of scenes about some random guy”. It’s funny because it’s true – literally so. And also because the end credits reveal said protagonist’s name is actually Guy. An irritable, self-absorbed scribe on the fringe of the indie movie scene, Guy, who spends a bit of time under a real table as well as under pictures of tables, is played by the film’s writer-director-producer Noel David Taylor, who is clearly having fun mocking the milieu as well as himself. Early in the movie he seethes with jealously at the latest work by another...
