The King of Cocaine, Pablo Escobar, headed a reign of terror as one of the wealthiest conventional criminals in history with his drug cartel before finally laying down to rest on December 2, 1993. But even in his final moments, he ostensibly believed in living life king-size, celebrating a lavish birthday a day before his death. The picture that the top-rated series Narcos painted of him was much different.
When it comes to how he spent his final days, reports have it that the Colombian drug lord was busy having the time of his life as he lavishly celebrated his 44th birthday on December 1, 1993, after escaping custody in July 1992 and going into hiding. Per Britannica, he allegedly enjoyed cake, wine, and even marijuana during the same.
Unfortunately for him, a day later, his hideout in Medellín was discovered by officials, with Colombian forces storming his building as he escaped to the roof with his bodyguard.

Pedro Pascal Was At His Most Gripping In This Pre-Franchise Role(Photo Credit –Facebook)
Netflix made a smart move when it brought Narcos to the screen and even smarter when Pedro Pascal stepped in as Javier Pena. Long before his face was under a helmet in The Mandalorian or before Marvel handed him the keys to the Fantastic Four, Pascal was quietly proving his range in a role that demanded far more than bravado.

Why Narcos Is Still One of Pedro Pascal’s Best Performances?
In Narcos, Pascal earns the spotlight instead of chasing it. The show avoids dressing him up as a flawless agent or a tragic antihero and instead shows a man constantly reacting, recalibrating, and enduring. Pena is not certain of his mission and is not comfortable with what it takes to carry it out.

Pedro Pascal Was “Appalled” by Wonder Woman 1984, But It Can’t Beat His Worst Look in Iconic TV Show
Pedro Pascal’s big breakthrough came when he starred as the goatee-having Dornish prince Oberyn Martell. He later portrayed the role of a mustache-carrying DEA agent Javier Peña in the Netflix show, Narcos.
Why are we talking about Pedro Pascal‘s facial hair, though? Because the actor decided to go completely clean-shaven for his role as Maxwell Lord in Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot‘s 2020 film, Wonder Woman 1984. The actor revealed (via Variety) he looks very awful when completely clean-shaven.
I grow such shit facial hair, but if I were to shave it all off… I really look very [awful].
Well, Pedro Pascal was saying it from experience as the actor starred as a completely-shaven Maxwell Lord, and he was “Appalled“ by the way that he looked (strongly agree).

Pedro Pascal Had This One Demand For Disney Before Taking On The Mandalorian Role! (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Pedro Pascal nearly skipped The Mandalorian, and not because he doubted the story or role. The real holdup was streaming. When Disney was prepping its sci-fi gamble, Pascal made it clear that if there’s no Disney+, there will be no Din Djarin. He wasn’t signing on for a cable debut or a half-hearted rollout. He needed confirmation that the show would drop on a dedicated platform. That lone condition nearly kept him out, but once Disney+ was officially a go, so was he.

When Disney geared up to jump into streaming, it knew it needed a show that could carry the weight, and The Mandalorian was it. But according to FandomWire, Pedro Pascal laid down one clear line before the helmet came on:...

While his latest movie is struggling, Pedro Pascal's impressive Rotten Tomatoes streak remains unbroken. While he has been active in Hollywood since 1995, the past decade has seen him leap into prominence. After years of taking relatively minor positions, his breakout came when he starred in Game of Thrones as the Dornish lord Oberyn Martell, and he never looked back.
Pascal has recently starred in increasingly prominent roles. He headlined Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017), Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), The Wild Robot (2024), Gladiator II (2024), and he is poised to lead the upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025) and The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026). As the rest of Hollywood struggled, Pascal has dominated the industry.

Netflix's "Narcos" is far more than one of the best Pedro Pascal TV shows out there. Inspired by real (and often extremely terrifying) events, the show chronicles the story of various drug cartels from the 1970s to the 1990s. Initially, the focus is on the most infamous cocaine trafficker of them all -- Wagner Moura's celebrity narcoterrorist Pablo Escobar -- but the combined six seasons of "Narcos" and "Narcos: Mexico" feature several other kingpins, as well as the many officers and agents who are risking life and limb to stop them.
"Narcos" is the kind of show that can easily drop the viewer down a rabbit hole of crime history. Its depiction of dangerous locales that range from Medellin to Ciudad Juárez sucks the viewer right in, and many of the key events on the show really happened ... up to and very much including some of the most disturbing ones.

Chris Brancato is a longtime TV writer and producer, having been involved in major projects – chief among them, Netflix’s drug lord drama Narcos. Now, Brancato has joined forces with MGM+ to executive produce The Westies, a series about the Irish crime family of the same name.
A press release revealed thatThe Westies will be set in the early 1980s New York, and it’ll be centered around the attempt by the Irish to maintain control over their turf amidst the construction of the Jacob K. Javits Center – which, in the modern age, has become the venue for events such as New York Comic-Con. Despite having a considerably smaller family than the Italians, the Westies managed to retain dominance over Hell’s Kitchen, and exert their influence across the city of New York. However, internal conflict between the audacious younger generation and the more measured old guard threatens their continued control of the city.

Pedro Pascal Left ‘Narcos’ 2017 Over Safety Concerns (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Pedro Pascal became a star thanks to Wonder Woman, Game of Thrones, and The Mandalorian, but Narcos hooked fans. From 2015 to 2017, he brought the dangerous world of Pablo Escobar to life as Javier Peña. But in 2017, Pascal walked away from the show—not because of a busy schedule but because of something way more chilling.
Tragedy struck when location scout Carlos Muñoz Portal was found dead in a remote area in Mexico while scouting for Narcos: Mexico. His death, tied to cartel violence, forced Pascal and the entire crew to rethink the safety of filming in such dangerous areas. Pascal clarified: “We can’t do it if it’s unsafe. We’re talking about lives.” And when a lead star says safety comes first, you know it’s no joke.

Pedro Pascal's departure from Narcos after season 3 was always part of the plan, according to showrunner Eric Newman. Pascal's character, Javier Peña, was originally kept for the final season to maintain an emotional tie, but his exit was a deliberate decision to start a new story in Mexico. Rumors that Pascal's exit was due to a real-life tragedy involving the murder of a location scout are unfounded, as his departure from the show was always intended.

Pedro Pascal has become one of the world’s most prolific actors. He’s currently enjoying unprecedented success, starring in two smash-hit television shows: The Last of Us on HBO and The Mandalorian on Disney+, in addition to being in talks for the role of Reed Richards in Marvel Studios' upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. He's also appearing in the anticipated Drive Away Dolls starring Margaret Qualley in February, and Freaky Tales, which just debuted at Sundance FIlm Festival. That’s on top of his roles in such hit films as Kingsman: The Golden Circle, The Equalizer 2, and Wonder Woman 1984. Pascal's breakout role was Oberyn Martell in television’s Game of Thrones back in 2014, followed by his role as Javier Peña in all three seasons of Narcos on Netflix. However, before breaking out in Game of Thrones and Narcos, Pascal was a staple of fan-favorite television shows and dramas.

Judy Moncada, a fictional character in Narcos, becomes a drug lord seeking revenge against Pablo Escobar after he kills her husband. She forms the organization Los Pepes to take down Escobar and seizes his cocaine labs, weakening his grip on the drug trade. Judy's story is inspired by the real formation of Los Pepes, although her character is not based on a real person.
Judy Moncada is one of the many characters in Narcos who helps to flesh out the epic story of the Medellín Cartel and the drug business in the Americas. Narcos premiered in 2015 on Netflix and ran for three seasons, covering the rise of Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) as he's pursued by DEA agents Steve Murphy (Boyd Holbrook) and Javier Peña (Pedro Pascal). Narcos' first two seasons depict Escobar's life and subsequent death while season 3 follows the aftermath of his passing and the rise of the Cali Cartel.

Los Pepes, a paramilitary group, was formed by Pablo Escobar's enemies with the goal of killing him and anyone associated with him. Led by Escobar's former associates, Fidel Castaño and Diego Fernando Murillo, Los Pepes used brutal tactics, including hanging and publicizing the deaths of Escobar's associates. The CIA and the Colombian government had ties with Los Pepes, exchanging information and overlooking the group's extreme tactics in their shared commitment to bringing down Escobar.
Throughout season 2 of Netflix's Narcos, several organizations are fully committed to taking down the notorious drug lord and narcoterrorist, Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura), one of them being a group called Los Pepes. Based on real-life events, the first two seasons of Narcos tell the true story of Escobar and how his rise to power and wealth allowed him to become one of Colombia's most powerful and feared drug kingpins. Before he was a famous star, Pedro Pascal made a memorable guest appearance in an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Across seven seasons on The WB (and later on Upn for its final two years), Buffy the Vampire Slayer amassed a dedicated fan following and became one of the teen shows that defined the '90s. While there were plenty of overarching serialized storylines on the show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer became renowned for its spooky standalone monster-of-the-week plots bringing in characters who only stuck around for one episode and were usually killed off.

Stardom never comes overnight. Take Chilean actor Pedro Pascal, 45. He has been steadily rising for years now, using his hard-earned theater chops to carve out a character actor career. And his breakout roles on HBO’s Season 4 of “Game of Thrones” (swashbuckling Red Viper/Oberyn Martell) followed by Netflix’s 2015 series “Narcos” (DEA agent Javier Peña) yielded even more chances to show what he can do.

Game of Thrones and Narcos star Pedro Pascal is headed to the Jedi universe to portray the title character in The Mandalorian, the live-action Star Wars series that will be a flagship program for Disney+, the ambitious streaming service launching in 2019.
The native of Santiago, Chile, is in final negotiations to star in the series, which chronicles the lone-wolf odyssey of a character who hails from the planet Mandalore, which Star Wars fans know as the homeworld of the notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett and Jango Fett.
Pascal memorably portrayed the passionate warrior Oberyn Martell, aka the Red Viper, on the fourth season of the HBO series Game of Thrones. He also played DEA agent Javier Peña on three seasons of Narcos, when the Netflix series centered on the cocaine cartels of Colombia. Pascal also played Agent Whiskey in the Fox feature film Kingsmen: The Golden Circle in 2017.

He endured the most memorable - and arguably most gruesome - death on Game of Thrones, but Pedro Pascal, who played Oberyn Martell in the world of Westeros, is alive and well today. He starred in the original Netflix series Narcos as Javier Peña, a real-life DEA agent who played a major role in catching Pablo Escobar, for three seasons. Now he's continuing his film career with Wonder Woman 1984 in an unknown but "pivotal" role, according to Variety.
Although he's been acting since he was a teenager, Pedro, who originally hails from Santiago, Chile, has only recently popped up on our radars, largely due to his unforgettable role in Game of Thrones. The guy is a grade-a hottie, and he deserves to be labeled as one.

“Narcos” has never been a simple show to process, especially for someone not embedded in this universe — there are many players, many complications, speaking in many languages, operating decades ago.
But it is one of the great examples of shows that have improved thanks to the opportunity to grow and evolve, and Season 3 continues that journey with an investment in human storytelling.
