Tyler Perry, with whom Ortiz frequently collaborates, serves as an executive producer on the project. Chicago Fire is about to sever ties with two adored characters: Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri) and Sam Carver (Jake Lockett). At the very least, these two have multiple seasons to develop their personas and establish fanbases. The same can't be said for some of their predecessors.
Sometimes, things happen, and characters leave shows before it feels like their arcs have come to a proper close. One Chicago has over a dozen seasons in the books, so there are plenty of examples to choose from, but we decided to focus on the ones that only lasted a season (or less).
These are the cops, firefighters and doctors we would've liked more time with.

Rome Flynn, who portrayed Derrick Gibson in NBC's Chicago Fire, recently spoke with Cbr about playing a real-life gangster. Flynn plays Frank Lucas in Season 4 of Godfather of Harlem.
Speaking with Cbr's Brittany Frederick, Flynn acknowledged how different playing Frank Lucas is compared to his Chicago Fire character. "Very different approaches, both equally challenging in [their] own way," he said of the shift from being a hero to an antagonist. "But this is a lot different. Procedural is a lot more technical, a lot more by the book. For this show, it's about the details, but a lot of it's unpredictable, and it's written in that way too. So very different forms."
While playing Frank Lucas is challenging, Flynn also shared how much he learned from his time on Chicago Fire. "I've found a heavy level of appreciation for our essential workers," he revealed. "They're heroes of our communities, and...

There’s a real emergency behind the scenes of NBC’s Chicago Fire. If the veteran show gets renewed for a fourteenth season (and it is likely it will), it won’t be with two of its fan-favorite actors.
Two Big Losses
Deadline was the first media outlet to announce that Daniel Kyri (Darren Ritter) and Jake Lockett (Sam Carver) will exit the series after season 13. The move could be part of an effort to cut costs and trim the budget. “As actor deals are getting renegotiated and renewal talks between NBC and producing studio Universal Television on the five Wolf Entertainment series for the network continue, there could be more exits across all five shows,” Deadline explained.
In other words, as shows get older, they become more expensive to produce. And trimming the budget becomes a necessary evil of the business. The five Dick Wolf series that air on...

The 2025 Sarasota Film Festival has announced its winners, and one film in particular will draw attention for having screened to much acclaim in this bright red county, ultimately winning the top documentary prize: Kim A. Snyder’s “The Librarians,” a film that’s sounding the alarm strongly about right-wing attacks on free speech, won Best Documentary Feature, after screening at New College, a university itself subjected to a right-wing takeover and attacks on free speech.
The win for “The Librarians” caps another edition of the festival known for its strong curation (largely due to senior programmer Brian Gordon), that brings to Florida’s Gulf Coast titles from Sundance, Cannes, Palm Springs, Mill Valley, and more.
The documentary jury, comprised of freelance journalist Addie Morfoot, Impact Partners co-founder Geralyn Dreyfous, and “Lovers” director Taylor McFadden also awarded a Special Jury Mention to Sasha Wortzel’s “River of Grass,” an environmentally-focused documentary about the Everglades.

Harlem’s kingpin is back, and he’s not backing down. After three fire seasons packed with mob wars, political drama, and jaw-dropping power moves, Godfather of Harlem is finally returning for Season 4, and fans are more than ready. Forest Whitaker is back in boss mode as Bumpy Johnson, the legendary crime lord trying to keep control of Harlem while chaos closes in from all sides.
Created by Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein, with Brancato also pulling strings as showrunner, this series is a fictionalized take on the real-life Bumpy Johnson, a man who ran the streets of Harlem in the ’60s and rubbed shoulders with the likes of Malcolm X, mob bosses, and politicians alike. But this isn’t your average gangster show. Since its 2019 debut, Godfather of Harlem has mixed raw street energy with political depth, showing what happens when the fight for power and justice collide.

Chicago Fire is a revolving door. There have been tons of characters who have stuck around for the long haul, of course, but most have been written out of the show, or gotten married and moved on to different careers. We remember them, and we miss them.
Some characters, however, don't stick around long enough to solidify their Chicago Fire legacy. They were compelling while on the show, but they left so quickly that their impact is barely felt in seasons that follow. This article is meant to shine a light on them, and recount why they left.

If there’s one thing Apple TV+’s Mythic Quest loves, it’s a detour. This has been true since the very first season, which paused midway through for a one-off about two characters we hadn’t met before and haven’t seen since. It’s remained so through subsequent seasons that devoted entire episodes to detailing the backstories of members from the core ensemble, or catching up with a minor character we hadn’t seen in years.
Now it extends all the way to the series’ first spinoff, Side Quest. As the cute title might suggest, this is essentially a Mythic Quest that’s nothing but those standalone chapters — that steps well outside Mq HQ to explore the other corners of the show’s universe, one quirky tale at a time. But as it turns out, a detour’s only a detour when there’s a set path to be deviating from.

It feels like a lost art in 2025, but the spinoff of a comedy series remains a popular proposition for TV creatives. However, if your show is not directly tied to surprisingly big IPs, like Big Bang Theory or 9-1-1, TV executives seem less likely to buy the pitch. Side Quest comes from the writers of Mythic Quest, specifically Ashly Burch, John Howell Harris, and Katie McElhenney.
With Rob McElhenney returning briefly, the show hopes to expand the world created by Mythic Quest, instead focusing on the people at the edges of the series. In some moments, Side Quest recreates the brilliance the show has been known for with its tangent episodes. However, one cannot help but wonder if these episodes would have been stronger in the context of the existing show.

Embracing an anthology style, Side Quest tells four stories in the world of Mythic Quest.

In all its ups and downs, Mythic Quest always stays true to its core conceit: a workplace comedy about a video game company, and all the interpersonal baggage that accompanies the creatives tasked with building said games. Side Quest, which Apple TV+ announced as its new spinoff, features a similar, if not identical premise, this time focusing on the plights of the lower-level and developmental employees.
Both the Mythic Quest season 4 finale and the Side Quest premiere will be streaming on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. The new series serves as an expansion of the established universe, per a press release. It will focus on the lives of employees, players and fans who are impacted by the game in an anthology format. All four episodes will be released that day for a binge-watch!
