As the tokusatsu icon “Garo” celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2025, it returns to theaters with “Garo: Taiga”, a major prequel feature directed and written by the franchise’s original creator, Keita Amemiya. Scheduled for release in Japan on October 17, 2025, the movie is currently screening at Fantasia International Film Festival and focuses on Taiga Saejima, the legendary Makai Knight who first wielded the title of Golden Knight Garo and fathered Kouga, the protagonist of the original 2005 television series. With this entry, Taiga’s younger years and heroism at the heart of the franchise’s lore finally take center stage.

Set before the events of the original series, “Garo: Taiga” chronicles Taiga Saejima’s formative journey as the first Golden Knight of the Saejima bloodline. Trained in the ancient art of slaying Horrors, demonic beings that infiltrate the human world, Taiga defends humankind with both strength and compassion.

The official website for <Garo> Taiga , the Garo tokusatsu franchise's 20th anniversary film, has released a teaser trailer and the four main cast members' individual visuals in costume. Shoichiro Kitada is cast as the film's protagonist, Taiga Saejima, as his first lead role in a feature film. Rika Kashima plays the main heroine, Fuki, who works together with Taiga, and K azuki Namioka plays Byakko, the holy beast who controls the power of wind. Additionally, Toshiki Seto plays Jyado, the main enemy Horror in the film as his first villain role in a hero film. And the voice of Zaruba, the magic ring that supports Taiga as his partner, is voiced by anisong singer Hironobu Kageyama .
