Universal Pictures is celebrating the 30th anniversary of “Apollo 13” by rereleasing the groundbreaking space-drama in Imax. The full-length theatrical version of the Oscar-nominated film will return to theaters Sep. 19 and play exclusively in Imax through Sep. 25.
Directed by Ron Howard and produced by Brian Grazer at Imagine Entertainment, “Apollo 13” recounts the true story of astronauts Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks), Jack Swigert (Kevin Bacon) and Fred Haise (Bill Paxton), who embarked on the eponymous space odyssey that became one of the tensest rescue missions in NASA history. The film released in 1995, captivating audiences with its powerful story and spectacular special effects.
“Apollo 13” also marked a cornerstone in the history of Imax. In 2002, it became the first live-action film digitally remastered using Imax’s then-novel Dmr technology and was released as “Apollo 13: The Imax Experience.” At the time, thirteen minutes of the original film were cut to accommodate limitations in Imax projection systems.

During a recent appearance on “The Bulwark” podcast, Mark Cuban revealed he was invited to submit himself for consideration to become former Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate in the 2024 presidential election. However, the “Shark Tank” star, an outward supporter of the Harris campaign, turned the offer down.
Interviewer Tim Miller opened the segment by prefacing that he had heard rumors at MSNBC that Cuban was tapped to join Harris on the campaign trail.
“There was some green room gossip at MSNBC,” Miller said. “I wouldn’t tell you this if it wasn’t pretty good. Somebody I kind of trust said that they asked you to send in VP vetting papers and you said, ‘No, the list would be too long.’ Is that true?”
Cuban confirmed the rumors to be true and elaborated on his decision to bow out of the race.

Republican candidates’ Tour De Podcast had a significant effect on the 2024 presidential election. Donald Trump and Jd Vance went on shows like The Joe Rogan Experience, advertising themselves as relatable guys who just wanted the best for the little dude. Their success in wooing digital denizens–particularly young white males, who make up a major chunk of the audience for conservative podcasts–was so significant that Rogan and right-wing streamers like Adin Ross ended up being thanked in official victory speeches.
Now, Democrats are spending $20 million trying to figure out how to reach those same young men–and potentially turn them into blue voters.
The Speaking with American Men project, aka Sam, will spend the next two years conducting research about men who believe they’re “invisible to the Democratic coalition,” Ilyse Hogue, who co-founded Sam, told Politico.
“Democrats are seen as weak, whereas Republicans are seen as strong,” she added,...

In the aftermath of Donald Trump’s morbidly authoritarian return to the White House, several members of the Democratic Party elite have been pitching plans and multimillion-dollar ideas for how to win back young male voters, many of whom spurned Democrats last fall.
One of these proposals, “Speaking With American Men: A Strategic Plan,” went viral after receiving a brief shout-out in The New York Times on Sunday. Described as a $20 million effort to “study the syntax, language and content that gains attention and virality” in male-dominated spaces online (such...

Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with cancer, and many people have reached out to the family. Donald Trump also sent a message to his political rival. Read on to find out more.
The Cancer Is Aggressive
The news that Dr. Jill Biden’s husband was ill arrived via a press statement from his team. Unfortunately, it was found in his “prostate,” and with “metastasis to the bone.” The 82-year-old appeared unwell on occasion, but it’s not known if his cancer was responsible for that. More recently, he had some urinary problems that led to the new diagnosis
The Press Release by the Biden Team
The statement continued with:
While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management. The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.

“Doug and I are saddened to learn of President Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis,” the former vice president shared on X. “We are keeping him, Dr. Biden, and their entire family in our hearts and prayers during this time. One air traffic controller and a trainee handled 180 flights landing and taking off from Newark Liberty International Airport (Ewr) for three hours on Monday night from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
A Federal Aviation Administration (Faa) spokesperson said that at least three controllers were scheduled for each hour on Monday night. However, the spokesperson did not clarify how many of the controllers were fully certified personnel.
A whistleblower told the New York Post that the situation was unlike anything he had seen during his lengthy career.
He said that the Newark Airport control room had five radarscopes, with one controller monitoring each one.
“15 [controllers] is the target for Newark,” the whistleblower noted. “Anything less than half of that is rough. Safety begins to be compromised. If you get below half of that standard, so seven, your safety begins to be compromised, and the Federal Aviation Administration (Faa) knows that, so what...

“It is very difficult to process how much has happened since Joe Biden was last at this table,” Whoopi Goldberg said at the start of Thursday’s episode of “The View.”
That’s an understatement. Biden last went on the show in September 2024, during the heat of the campaign, in an attempt to boost the prospects of his vice president, Kamala Harris, in her brief and ultimately unsuccessful run for the presidency. Now, he was showing up as an ex-president, in order both to critique Donald Trump’s chaotic early months in office and to defend his own legacy. For all that’s shifted in American life, though, one element remained consistent: It was unclear what Biden hoped to accomplish by appearing on “The View.”

Stephen Colbert went live on CBS’ Late Show Tuesday night, sharing his hot take on President Donald Trump’s primetime address to a joint session of Congress earlier that night.
And while Colbert took aim at a number of Trump’s claims, he also had a few barbs for the Democrats, a number of whom used props and fuchsia clothing to signal their opposition to the GOP president.
“The Democrats came ready to fight back with their little paddles,” Colbert said over a clip of members of Congress holding up circle paddles that said “False” and “Save Medicaid.”
He added, “That is how you save democracy. By quietly dissenting — or bidding on an antique tea set, it was hard to tell what was going on.”
But, seriously, Colbert said he was inspired by their resistance and made his own sign. He then held up a little circle paddle that said,...

It was Sunny Hostin against the world — er, at least, most everyone else at the table — on Friday’s (February 21) first “Hot Topic” discussion of The View. The cohosts responded to comments made by former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in which he decried certain Diversity Equity and Inclusion (Dei) efforts for “people [to] sit through a training that looks like something out of Portlandia.” While others on the panel were sympathetic to Buttigieg’s points and did their best to defend them, Hostin was having none of that. “I like, Pete, of course, but I think he got that so wrong, and I think it was so tone-deaf,” Hostin said. “From 1776 to 1965, you have basically white men in charge of everything, right? Women, people of color, we’re left out of just equality, equality of opportunity, that sort of thing. And I think when that equality starts popping up in terms of a diversity program,...

Jimmy Kimmel didn’t pull any punches on Thursday night’s (January 30) edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live! as he blasted President Donald Trump‘s comments on the deadly mid-air collision between an American Airlines flight and a helicopter on Wednesday night (January 29). The commercial flight was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members when it collided with a Black Hawk helicopter carrying three soldiers as it prepared to land at Reagan National Airport around 9 p.m. Et. There were no survivors, officials said. “This was the deadliest air crash in 24 years,” Kimmel said at the top of Thursday’s show before addressing Trump’s 40-minute press conference, in which “he spent two of those minutes offering words of comfort and sympathy to the victims and their families and 38 minutes blaming Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg and diversity.” Kimmel continued, “Remember when he waited ten minutes after the wildfires started here in L.

Even as crews continued to retrieve bodies from the Potomac River following a midair collision Wednesday night between a commercial jet and a U.S. Army helicopter over Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump sought to lay the blame for the tragedy on workplace diversity initiatives. His now-familiar refrain against diversity, equity, and inclusion policies — convenient for packaging racist, sexist, homophobic, and transphobic rhetoric into easily digested soundbites — had no evident connection to the accident, which officials have just begun to investigate. But that didn’t stop Trump from signing a...

After mourning the loss of victims in an air collision in Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump pivoted quickly to placing the blame.
He quickly claimed that he had elevated safety standards during his first term in office only to have Joe Biden lower them, and then more directly blamed diversity, equity and inclusion programs, or Dei.
He also singled out former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, claiming that he has been using “a good line of bullsh*t” in leading the department, which oversees the Faa and hires air traffic controllers.
Yet in briefing with reporters Thursday at the White House, Trump said that “we do not know what led to this crash, but we have some strong opinions.”
“We don’t know,” Trump said later.
“The helicopter was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and a tragedy occurred.”

President-Elect Donald Trump's surprising cabinet picks have dominated the news cycle this week among the latest is reality TV star Sean Duffy, who came to fame on MTV's The Real World.
Although it is true that Sean Duffy was a cast member on The Real World, he has actually had an extensive career in politics in the intervening years.
Moreover, Trump famously appointed another reality television personality to his administration during his first term: Omarosa Manigault Newman, who was known for her stint on The Apprentice.
Omarosa worked on his campaign before his election, and in September 2016, she said of then-candidate Trump:
"Every critic, every detractor, will have to bow down to President Trump. It's everyone who's ever doubted Donald, whoever disagreed, whoever challenged him. It is the ultimate revenge to become the most powerful man in the universe."

Sean Duffy is entering the real world of Washington D.C., with Donald Trump tapping the Fox Business host and former Representative of Wisconsin to be his nominee as his secretary of transportation. Duffy would replace Pete Buttigieg, who was selected by sitting President Biden to lead the department under his administration.

Last week, Pete Buttigieg sat in a studio in Michigan, surrounded by 25 undecided voters who rushed, musical chairs style, to sit across a table from him and debate his positions on Kamala Harris and Donald Trump’s policies. Those on the perimeter raised red flags when they felt each debate had run its course.
It wasn’t a town hall or a cable news panel, and it didn’t air on CNN, Fox or MSNBC. Actually, the encounter didn’t air on television at all. Rather, it was the sixth episode of hit YouTube series “Surrounded,” from Jubilee Media, the independent L.A. production company behind other social experiments like “Middle Ground” and “Swipe or Swap.”
With episode titles like “Can 1 Woke Teen Survive 20 Trump Supporters?” and “Can 25 Liberal College Students Outsmart 1 Conservative?,” the series has gone viral since its September debut, racking up more than 50 million views on YouTube and dominating social media feeds.

Rather, it was the sixth episode of hit YouTube series “Surrounded,” from Jubilee Media, the independent L.A. production company behind other social experiments like “Middle Ground” and “Swipe or Swap.”

The White House continued its briefings on the threat of Hurricane Milton as it heads toward central Florida, with President Joe Biden also decrying the spread of misinformation about the response and recovery.
“For the last few weeks, there’s been a reckless, irresponsible, relentless promotion of disinformation and outright lies that are disturbing people,” Biden said today. “It’s undermining confidence in the incredible rescue and recovery work that has already been taken and will continue to be taken. It’s harmful to those who need help most.”
He singled out Donald Trump, saying that he “has led the onslaught of lies.” That includes “assertions that property is being confiscated. That’s simply not true. They’re saying people impacted by these storms will receive $750 in cash and no more. That’s simply not true. They’re saying the money that is needed for this crisis is being diverted to migrants.

Kris Kristofferson, the legendary “outlaw” country singer-songwriter and actor, died this weekend at 88. Kristofferson won four Grammys throughout his career, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014. He was a member of The Highwaymen, a platinum-selling country music supergroup that also featured Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings, and many of his songs were covered by other artists to great success including Cash (“Sunday Morning Coming Down”), Janis Joplin (“Me and Bobby McGee”), Al Green (“For The Good Times”), and Gladys Knight (“Help Me Make it Through the Night”) just to scratch the surface.
In the early 1970s, as his recording career began taking off, he began appearing in films. His first credit was in Dennis Hopper’s “The Last Movie” and then he starred in Sam Peckinpah’s “Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid” with James Coburn and Bob Dylan. The Atlantic is launching a new podcast Wednesday that focuses on figures who are supporting those who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
The limited series is hosted by Hanna Rosin, senior editor and Radio Atlantic host, and podcaster Lauren Ober, with episodes released each Wednesday over the next five weeks.
The podcast also is tied to an Atlantic feature story, The Insurrectionists Next Door, which spotlights the Justice for January 6 movement. Rosin and Ober had been walking around their neighborhood in Northeast D.C. last year when they noticed a Chevy Equinox with Texas plates and with slogans on the back windshield that read, Free Our Patriots, The Three Percenter, Original; and J4J6.
As it turned out, one of their new neighbors was Micki Witthoeft, the mother of Ashli Babbitt. Babbitt was shot and killed in the Capitol that day as she was with a mob trying to break through the Speaker’s Lobby,...

Stephen Colbert has been a busy man, between hosting The Late Show and attending the DNC. He's the most politically minded of the late night hosts, of course, so it was a balanced the comedian had a fun time pulling off.
The upcoming week will see Colbert get back into his Late Show groove, though, and he's booked an impressive roster of guests. Monday, September 2, will see the host converse with Pete Buttigieg, the US Secretary of Transportation, about the upcoming Presidential election.

Throughout the years in charge, Stephen Colbert had some massive names since taking over from David Letterman. He did the impossible by interviewing Steven Spielberg, who had never appeared on any late night shows prior. He also had terrific chemistry with past Presidents. None better than Barack Obama.
However, Colbert made a heartbreaking reveal to fans three years ago. Colbert had booked a ticket to attend Obama's 60th birthday party. Plans changed, and Colbert still attended the trip, but was not a part of Obama's exclusive party. Let's take a look back at the opening monologue from three years ago, and why Colbert ended up getting shunned from the party.

One of the biggest cultural trend stories coming out of last week’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago was the party’s warm embrace of social media creators and influencers. No social media maven on the ground at the United Center got more of a boost out of the DNC marathon than 12-year-old Knowa De Baraso of Atlanta.
The precocious pundit, who is home schooled and lives with his mother, went viral on Day 3 of the DNC after his encounter at the United Center with Mike Lindell, CEO of MyPillow and vocal booster of former President Donald Trump. In an exchange that was conveniently shot on cell phone video from multiple angles, De Baraso made quick work of the hyperbolic Lindell as the latter spouted off supposed facts about election fraud in De Baraso’s home state of Georgia.

Kamala Harris’ acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday is being widely praised — even Fox News is saying a few nice things about the Vice President’s remarks.
Coming in at 40 minutes and within the primetime TV window on the all-important East Coast, Harris’ speech in front of 5000 delegates at Chicago’s United Center was full of language and pledges that would have fit in at a DNC or GOP convention in the 1990s, as Ted Johnson and I said in our story earlier tonight. As an example, her deft handling of Hamas’ murderous attack on Israel last fall, the scorched-earth Gaza War and calls for a cease-fire and return of hostages took much of the sting out of one of the sharpest divisions within the Democratic Party.

The Democratic National Convention maintained a relatively steady audience for the third consecutive night, averaging 20.2M viewers Wednesday across 12 networks, Nielsen reports.
That’s a loss of just a few hundred thousand compared to Night 2’s 20.8M, and it’s still just a bit higher than the 20M for the first night. However, viewership is down compared to the third night of the DNC in 2020, when just over 21M tuned in.
The DNC is still averaging an audience that is much larger than that for the Republican National Convention, which neared 18M viewers on its third night. Night 3 was a significant lift for the RNC, having dropped to 14.8M on Night 2.
Night 3 of the DNC was broadcast live from Chicago, beginning an hour earlier than the previous two nights, airing from about 9:00 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Et, with speeches from former President Bill Clinton and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg,...

Oprah Winfrey’s surprise appearance at the Democratic National Convention, in which she made the case for Kamala Harris and against Donald Trump, certainly electrified the United Center, but one moment from the third evening stood out in particular.
That was when Tim Walz spoke about he and his wife’s long challenges with infertility, and then about his family, and his son Gus stood up and said, “That’s my Dad!” It quickly became one of the night’s viral moments.
For the third night in a row, the convention went into overtime in the Et, potentially losing the TV audience, but the campaign is suggesting that it may not matter all that much.
The convention has so far drawn a larger audience than the same time periods of the Republican National Convention.
“We’ve outpaced them every night so far this convention,” Harris campaign spokesman Michael Tyler said this morning.

As the Democratic party descended on Chicago this week, so too did late night television, with both “The Daily Show” and “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” broadcasting live from the DNC. And behind the scenes, both shows were almost like parties on their own.
Technically, “The Daily Show” will only be live on Thursday night, with Jon Stewart hosting after the primetime programming at the United Center. Filming at the Anthenaeum Center for Thought & Culture roughly four miles away from the Uc, the Comedy Central program opted for pre-taped shows the rest of the week, filming early in the evening.
Meanwhile, “The Late Show” took over the Auditorium Theater, just about a mile and a half away from the chaos of the convention. The CBS show has been live all week, snagging both political and celebrity guests after they speak at the convention and even being subjected to protests...

The Democratic National Convention continued to make major headlines on Wednesday (August 21) evening, with standout speeches from party A-listers like former President Bill Clinton, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, House Democrats’ Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Plus, there were grand-scale performances by Stevie Wonder and John Legend, take-notice speeches by Mindy Kaling and Oprah Winfrey, and even an on-stage reunion of the high school football team vice presidential hopeful Tim Walz coached to a championship. Ultimately, though, the entire evening — which was themed “A Fight for Our Freedoms” — was buildup to Governor Walz accepting the party’s nomination for vice president with an emotional speech. As with the last two nights, DNC Night Three ran late into the evening, but that didn’t stop folks from tuning in. There’s something compelling about the allure of nostalgia. And the Democratic National Convention, as it prepares to, Thursday night, usher in a candidate whose entire purpose has been to change the conversation, has defaulted, a bit, to reflecting on past glories.
Vice President Kamala Harris’ rallying cry, since she replaced President Joe Biden as the Democrats’ standard-bearer, has been “We’re not going back.” Her meaning is well-taken — the nation, in her view, ought not return to the days of the Trump presidency. The convention built around her and buttressed with figures from Democratic Party history, though, has seemed built around a different catchphrase. It has so far recalled the famous line from the drama “Lost” — “We have to go back!”
There’s nothing unusual about packing a political convention with former potentates from the party. It’s meant, in part, as a celebration of past glories that might be reclaimed.

In the arena lit with color changing blinking lights, there was Lil Jon, taking off in a surprise rap when Georgia was called to cast its votes for Kamala Harris; Sean Astin paying homage to Rudy as Indiana announced its tally; and Spike Lee appearing with the New York delegation as its governor boasted of the Empire State’s supremacy.
Then there was Wisconsin, a key battleground state, and its governor, Tony Evers, surrounded by delegates wearing cheesehead hats. As he started to trumpet his state, telling the arena that he was here “because I’m jazzed as hell,” he tripped up in announcing the tally for Kamala Harris.

Stephen Colbert threw shade at the Democratic National Convention audience’s hypocrisy toward billionaires after the crowd cheered for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ anti-oligarch remarks but then celebrated Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker for flexing his billionaire status at Donald Trump.
“Bernie got us psyched up for attacking billionaires, but we like this guy! It’s an emotional and moral rollercoaster,” Colbert said, mocking the audience in his opening monologue for “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” as he recapped night two of the DNC.
At the time, the host was highlighting the most popular speeches of the night when he pointed out the similar reactions to Pritzker and Sanders, despite the two politicians having opposing backgrounds and ideologies when it comes to the wealth gap in the U.S.
“The Vermont senator and technically ‘not Democrat’ Bernie Sanders delivered a message to the billionaire class,” Colbert said before the show...
