The Best Horror Movies Streaming This Month Are Christmas Horror Movies (December 2024)
Image
It's the holiday season, which can mean only one thing: it's time to watch Christmas horror movies! Christmas horror is nothing new. In the Victorian era, folks would gather by the fireside around Christmas time to tell each other ghost stories (this is how we got "A Christmas Carol"). Over the years, the horror genre has embraced this idea by unleashing horror films set on or around Christmas. Some of these films are quite bad and seem to recycle the same boring idea ("What if a guy dressed as Santa Claus killed people?!") over and over again. But there are others that make the yuletide bright. Hell, even some of the killer Santa stories work. As the weird year that was 2024 comes to a close, and the horrifying uncertainty of 2025 lurks right around the corner, let's chug some mulled wine, deck the halls, and watch the following Christmas-centric horror movies.

Netflixs 'Territory' Season 2 Should Feature One Fan-Favorite Character
Image
Quick Links What Is 'Territory' About? Who Is Nolan Brannock in 'Territory?' Why 'Territory' Season 2 Needs More Nolan, Explained

New to Netflix on October 24, 2024, Territory is an Australian neo-Western TV series that enjoyed popular success on the platform. Directed by Greg McLean (Wolf Creek), the six-part series concerns the biggest global cattle farm, Marianne Station, and the Lawson family, who have controlled it for generations. When the Lawsons launch a search for the next heir to run the ranch, the show resembles a dramatic mix of Succession and Yellowstone as cut-throat family members, friends, and acquaintances vie for the business.

While yet to be officially renewed by Netflix, one character has become more popular than any among Territory fans. If the show continues on Netflix beyond Season 1, the ambitious Native American Nolan Brannock (Clarence Ryan) needs to be featured more often. Attempting to start his own cattle business,...

The Best Sci-Fi Movies On Netflix
Image
Over the years, Netflix has expanded into a variety of genres with original content, but they never let go of being a go-to place for some of the best movies ever made. As the streaming wars continue and services like Disney+ and Apple TV+ continue to gain traction, Netflix is becoming less of the dominant go-to content hub that it used to be. That said, sci-fi fans can find great value in a Netflix subscription, thanks to the genre movies available on the platform.

Netflix broke out as a leader in the genre thanks to the original sci-fi series Stranger Things and that opened the floodgates to countless movies and streaming series for fans to enjoy. Much of its library consists of titles released in the past couple of decades, but there are a few classics on the streaming service for people who love all flavors of sci-fi. From big-budget...

Christmas Bloody Christmas (2022) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Joe Begos
A new episode of the Revisited video series has just arrived online, and in this one we’re looking back at a movie that was just released last year, writer/director Joe Begos‘s holiday horror film Christmas Bloody Christmas – which got an 8/10 review from our own JimmyO that you can read Here and is available to watch on the Shudder streaming service. To find out what we had to say about Christmas Bloody Christmas one year after its release, check out the video embedded above!

Christmas Bloody Christmas has the following synopsis: It’s Christmas Eve and fiery record store owner Tori Tooms just wants to get drunk and party, until the robotic Santa Claus at a nearby toy store goes haywire and makes her night more than a little complicated. Santa Claus begins a rampant killing spree through the neon-drenched snowscape against a backdrop of drugs, sex, metal and violence,...

5 Best Christmas Horror Movies!

5 Best Christmas Horror Movies(Photo Credit –IMDb)

When one thinks of Christmas, horror, and gore are generally not the first things that come to mind. Christmas is all about having fun. It’s full of life and color, and identifying it as scary would be out of place. And while Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” does make a perfect example of a ‘scary Christmas,’ it does not qualify as a traditional, spine-chilling horror movie. But contrary to popular narrative — certain media out there does it, and does it well. Think of the latest “Fargo” episode that runs a Halloween theme and blends it with “Nightmare Before Christmas.”

So, the appeal behind it is understandable. This is why we have curated a list of the best Christmas horror movies you can enjoy for a change of pace from all the happy and sparkly traditions.

Joe Begos Wrote Christmas Bloody Christmas For All The 'Dirtbag Metalheads'
Image
Holiday horror has officially moved from the month of October to the chillier air of the Christmas season. Genre fans making their 31 Days of Horror list during Halloween can just as easily come up with 25 scary movies to watch every day in December. This year, Joe Begos and company added "Christmas Bloody Christmas" to the growing pile of Yuletide horror found underneath the VHS tree. Call it "Xmas-ploitation" if you must. In what's essentially a non-stop chase featuring a killer robot Santa (Abraham Benrubi), Begos could have easily delivered a run-of-the-mill slasher without any real visual flair. Instead, "Christmas Bloody Christmas" is a wonder to look at, mostly thanks to cinematographer Brian Sowell's ability to bathe the small town streets in a luminous and ominous trail of lights. In /Film's review, Chris Evangelista said the film has "a style so sharp that it borders on breathtaking," and he's not wrong.

Why Christmas Bloody Christmas Director Joe Begos Gave Himself 'The Coolest Kill'
Image
This article contains major spoilers for "Christmas Bloody Christmas."

Tis the season for Christmas slayings, as this year has granted us with not one, but two ho-ho-holiday beatdowns. Where "Violent Night" propped up David Harbour as a Santa Claus forced to go all John McClane on a group of mercenaries, "Christmas Bloody Christmas" goes in a much different direction. The new independent horror flick from director Joe Begos sees a robotic department store Santa (Abraham Benrubi) going on a small town killing spree after its wiring malfunctions.

The kicker is that the technology within was initially programmed by the Department of Defense, so if you're on his naughty list, he's not giving up until you're in the ground. "Christmas Bloody Christmas" is one of those cases where its brilliant premise results in a mixed bag of a slasher flick. The 16mm neon-drenched bloodbath succeeds when Benrubi lets loose, and less...

‘Christmas Bloody Christmas’ Review – The Blood-Soaked Robot Santa Movie You Didn’t Know You Needed
Image
Joe Begos unleashes a new holiday horror classic with his gleefully gratuitous robot Santa rampage, Christmas Bloody Christmas.

Horror is most commonly associated with Halloween, but Christmas is right behind the spooky season when it comes to holiday-based horror movies. Christmas horror movies take plenty of different directions from creative home invasions to Satanic elves. However, the killer Santa trope is by far the most common device that’s turned to by these movies. There’s something inherently upsetting about the corruption of a comforting figure like Santa, but the trope’s overexposure has made it increasingly difficult to feel fresh.

Joe Begos is an exceptional horror filmmaker who’s previously eschewed genre tropes with Vfw and Bliss. His latest movie, Christmas Bloody Christmas, finally finds a unique angle on the killer Santa stereotype by turning the seasonal threat into a robotic Terminator-like predator. It’s Begos’ strongest film, but...

‘Christmas Bloody Christmas’ (2022) – Slasher on Shudder
Image
Christmas Bloody Christmas is a horror/comedy film written and directed by Joe Begos starring Riley Dandy, Sam Delich and Jonah Ray.

Premise

Drinking and partying is all Eve and Tori have on their minds on Christmas Eve. Until they are surprised by a robotic Santa that goes berserk and embarks on a rampant killing spree in the small town. This will pave the way for a battle for survival.

Christmas Bloody Christmas (2022) Movie Review

‘Christmas Bloody Christmas’ is a slasher that has had to make do with limited means (meaning: a lot of red sauce and a troupe of pals that do not have to deal with the interference of a major studio)… Yes, this is a B-movie that gives it its all in this rowdy, irreverent feature, and that seems to try to transmit the hilarity of participating in it, with quirky dialogues, a couple of steamy scenes and,...

Christmas Bloody Christmas review – Robo-Claus rampage in seasonal slasher
Riley Dandy for Getty Entertainment
Likable central pairing of Riley Dandy and Sam Delich goes some way to redeem a routine horror about a Santa robot that starts killing

’Tis the season for genre film-makers and distributors to cash in with horror-themed Christmas movies. So if current hit Violent Night sounds a little too classy and mainstream, then here is this shoddily made but tinsel-bright gift for you, the cinematic equivalent of a cheap soap and body lotion set bought at the last minute. It’s serviceable, but not a lot of thought went into it.

Adding to the corpus of films about Santas who are not just bad but positively evil, Christmas Bloody Christmas builds its plot around an animatronic toy-shop Santa Claus robot that suddenly develops a murderous instinct. Before the mayhem commences, however, the film spends time with record-store owner Tori (Riley Dandy) and her employee-friend Robbie (Sam Delich), two likable cool...

Christmas Bloody Christmas - Jennie Kermode - 18046
Joe Begos
Once Christmas horror films provided a form of relief to those craving a break from peace and goodwill to all men. Now each winter brings a slew of them, so that they feel almost like part of the festive package. Overall quality has steadily gone downhill as they have strained to squeeze a little more blood out of increasingly anaemic themes. With a simple plot about a killer robot Santa, Christmas Bloody Christmas might sound like more of the same, but writer/director Joe Begos really knows how to tell a story, and against the odds, this film is a gift to jaded viewers.

Riley Dandy plays Tori, a record shop owner who, like many people in retail, is feeling the strain of dealing with festive shoppers. She wants to spend the evening getting drunk and having fun with her Tinder date. Employee Robbie (Sam Delich) has other ideas, however.

Joe Begos Interview (writer/director of Christmas Bloody Christmas)

While Violent Night is lighting the box office on fire, there’s another film featuring a Santa with a bit of bloodlust: Christmas Bloody Christmas. Thankfully this Santa is much less friendly and a lot more homicidal. I was fortunate enough to talk with the writer/director, Joe Begos, and pick his brain on this wonderful little title. He talks about how it started as a Silent Night, Deadly Night remake, only to evolve into a killer robot Santa film. This is probably my favorite conversation yet, so don’t miss it!

Christmas Bloody Christmas synopsis: It’s Christmas Eve and Tori just wants to get drunk and party, but when a robotic Santa Clause at a nearby toy store goes haywire and begins a rampant killing spree through her small town, she’s forced into a battle for survival.

Christmas Bloody Christmas Review: A Robotic Santa Goes Haywire In This Uber-Stylish Holiday Slasher
Image
Christmas has become a ripe season for horror. The holiday horror subgenre is alive and kicking, and it feels like every year we get at least a handful of Christmas-set creepers, usually involving some sort of killer Santa Claus. It's nothing new — Santa has been slashing for years, in one form or another. When TriStar Pictures released "Silent Night, Deadly Night" in 1984, complete with a poster featuring Santa's arm clutching an axe as he descends down a chimney, there was an uproar. The uproar was so loud that TriStar pulled the pic from theaters after a week — which wasn't such a big deal, as "Silent Night, Deadly Night" had already made back its meager budget, and then some, at that point.

"Silent Night, Deadly Night" wasn't the first film to feature some sort of evil Santa — 1978's thriller "The Silent Partner" has Christopher Plummer as a sadistic thief who dresses...

Stars: Riley Dandy, Sam Delich, Jonah Ray Rodrigues, Dora Madison, Jeremy Gardner, with Jeff Daniel Phillips, Abraham Benrubi | Written and Directed by Joe Begos

I’ve been a fan of writer/director Joe Begos’ work ever since I saw his first feature, Almost Human, back in 2104 at Frightfest. My love of his work was cemented by The Mind’s Eye, Bliss and Vfw. One thing his films are known for are the various influences that 80s cinema has had on his work – from The Mind’s Eye being inspired by Scanners; Bliss feeling like the brethren of Near Dark by way of To Live or Die in LA… Begos’ films tend to take on different cinematic horror tropes, whilst harkening back to the 80s, in both style and substance.

For many of us, the 80s is an era where ideas were allowed to run rampant, mainly in part due to...
