Star Wars: Mon Mothma & Daughter Reunion Chances Addressed by Andor Star
Image
Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) and her daughter Leida (Bronte Carmichael) had a strained relationship during Andor. Following Episode 3 of Season 2 of the Disney+ Star Wars series, Leida was not seen again, raising the question of what happened to Mon's daughter and whether the two ever reunited after the events of the series. Andor covers the five years in the lead-up to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is a formative and dangerous time for the Rebellion.

Much of Leida's story in Andor saw the young Chandrilan embrace her conservative culture, which put her at odds with her mother. This came to a head in Andor Season 2 when Leida took part in a traditional arranged Chandrilan wedding, marrying Stekan Sculdun, the son of a Chandrilan oligarch. While Mon initially supported the marriage as it gave her the financial backing to help feed the Rebellion, she came to regret putting her daughter in this position,...

Andor: Cut Mon Mothma storyline changes her entire season 2 arc
Image
From getting her scenes cut in Revenge of the Sith to becoming a lead cast in what is undoubtedly the best Star Wars TV show, Genevieve O'Reilly's Mon Mothma has come a long way. Despite being a Rebel Alliance High Council member, Mon was barely noticeable in the prequels and was overshadowed by Padme Amidala and Bail Organa in the few episodes of The Clone Wars in which we see her.

But Andor forces you to sit up and take notice of this soft-spoken yet strong-willed Senator with irrefutable faith in democracy, who does not shy away from calling a spade a spade, or in her case, a genocide a genocide.

In Andor Season 2, Mon is rescued from the Senate by Cassian (Diego Luna) and taken to the Coruscant safehouse after her open defiance of the Empire in a rousing speech. From there, she is expected to make a...

Andor season 2 was incredible, but I still wish we got to see these 4 storylines
Image
Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Andor season 2.

Andor Season 2 is a remarkable and moving work of art. It is one of the best all-time seasons of any show, and not just in Star Wars. The structure of every three episodes taking place in a different year, leading up to the events of Rogue One, could have felt disjointed. However, the season ends up feeling mostly seamless in its transitions and becomes a deeply satisfying continuation and conclusion to the story that began in Season 1.

While Season 2's structure overall works incredibly well, there are a few times where I could not help but think of the original five-season plan that Tony Gilroy had in mind. There are some storylines between or during each three-episode arc that I would have loved to see further explored. Given the nature of the Star Wars franchise, there is always a chance of these...

‘Andor’ star Genevieve O’Reilly on Mon Mothma’s big speech and wedding dance: ‘Star Wars’ always reaches for ‘the universal and the intimate’
Image
Since Andor Season 2 is split into groups of three episodes, each taking place one year after the last, viewers see the characters in several different modes and periods of their lives. In particular, Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) plays quite a spectrum of emotions. In the first arc of the season, written by Andor creator Tony Gilroy, viewers see her navigate her daughter’s wedding. It involves coaching her young daughter Leida (Bronte Carmichael) through bridal feelings and making covert political decisions with her fellow rebel leader Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård).

“It's such an extraordinary thing that Tony and the writers did, to allow for such an arc this season starting with that wedding,” O’Reilly tells Gold Derby. “There was an exploration of politics within the family home in Season 1, especially with her husband, so it's personal and political all at once, but the fact that the writers gave time to complex,...

Andor season 2, episode 3 recap: Did your favorite survive?
Image
This recap contains spoilers for Andor Season 2, episode 3, "Harvest."

The final episode of Andor, week one, Season 2, episode 3, "Harvest," was not kind to our heroes. While it went out with a bang, we lost some friends along the way. Let's recap everything you might have missed in "Harvest."

This article discusses sexual assault and attempted rape. Reader discretion is advised.

Our Ferrix friends of Bix Caleen, Brasso, Wilmon Paak, and B2EMO have been scrambling to find a way to safety on their not-so-safe-anymore haven of Mina-Rau. The Empire is there for a census audit and is looking for illegal migrants with fake visas like theirs. Their local friends, including Brasso's girlfriend Talia, have gotten them a work order that's away from the area. It would give them a reason to...

‘Andor’ Used Season 1 Techno Hit To Get Mon Mothma Crying in the Club
Image
How do you make storylines come together when the characters are worlds apart?

That was the challenge facing the first arc of “Andor” Season 2 — specifically the last 15 minutes of Episode 3, “Harvest,” where Cassian (Diego Luna) swoops onto the Mina-Rau grassland in a stolen tie-fighter to rescue Bix (Adria Arjona), Wilmon (Muhannad Bhaier), and Brasso (Joplin Sibtain) while Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) loses herself on the dance floor of her daughter Leida’s (Bronte Carmichael) wedding party, knowing that spymaster Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård) is about kill her childhood friend Tay Kolma (Ben Miles) before he reveals their rebellious activities. The two storylines couldn’t look more different, but the despair that the characters feel in this moment is exactly the same.

As has been the case throughout his career, showrunner Tony Gilroy relied on his editor and brother John Gilroy to bring the end pieces of Episode 3 together as something that feels like one ending,...

Andor Showrunner Tony Gilroy Explains The 'Big Galactic Hit' & The Wedding Scene Disco Droid [Exclusive Interview]
Image
There is only one way out. This article contains minor spoilers for the first three episodes of "Andor" season 2.

Ever since the moment "Andor" first arrived on streaming, "Star Wars" has simply never been the same -- and there's more than one artist responsible for that. Season 2 is even darker, bolder, and better than ever, maintaining all the grown-up themes and unabashed political commentary that writer, showrunner, and creator Tony Gilroy injected into this prequel/spin-off series to "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." But as much as this brilliant franchise offering owes its existence to Diego Luna's gritty title character, a very different kind of hero has emerged from the background as a fan favorite: Genevieve O'Reilly's Senator Mon Mothma. After initially appearing in "Revenge of the Sith", the actor's "Star Wars" arc has closely paralleled Gilroy's. Both played large roles in "Rogue One," and now they've...

Andor Season 2's Unexpected Mon Mothma Moment Is A True 2025 Mood In Every Possible Way
Image
Everyone should have expected a big, climactic finish to "Andor" season 2, episode 3. Season 1 made a trend of the multi-episode arc, each one delivering a major climax at the end: the showdown with corporate security on Ferrix, the Imperial payroll heist on Adhani, the prison break at Narkina 5, and the memorial service turned rebel uprising back on Ferrix. Since season 2 is taking year-long time jumps between each group of three episodes, it was natural that the trend would continue, and the first arc of "Andor" season 2 ends in a maelstrom of a montage with Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) at its center.

The main action of the episode takes place far, far away from Chandrila, where Mon has been busy the whole arc hosting the wedding festivities of her daughter Leida (Bronte Carmichael). Instead, the last 10 minutes or so mainly focus on Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) as he races back to the...

On ‘Andor,’ the Look of the Empire Only Deals in Absolutes
Image
A lot happens in the first three episodes of Season 2 of “Andor.” But if Disney+ is looking for a new multicam sitcom, they could do a whole lot worse than the home life of Isb officer Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) and imperial bureaucrat Syril Karn (Kyle Soller), set up in a big apartment on the capital planet of Coruscant where the furious, repressed vibe between them is just as stark as the white walls.

The dinner the couple throws for Syril’s mother Eedy (the majestic Kathryn Hunter) in Episode 3 stands as a counterpoint to the Chandrilan wedding ceremony Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) puts on for her daughter Leida (Bronte Carmichael) — the former is small and soulless in contrast to the ancient rites and conspicuous display of the latter. But this is one of the few glimpses that “Star Wars” has ever given us of Imperials out of uniform, and...

‘Andor’ Star Genevieve O’Reilly on Her 20-Year Journey as Mon Mothma: ‘I Could Never Have Imagined This’
Image
Twenty years ago, George Lucas cast Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, a character originally introduced in “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi,” for his prequel “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.” Years later she would return for “Rogue One,” a prequel to the original “Star Wars,” in a brief cameo. She voiced the character on the animated series “Rebels” and popped up on a handful of episodes of “Ahsoka.” But O’Reilly would really get to spread her wings in “Andor,” the live-action Disney+ series from creator Tony Gilroy that dramatized the lead-up to “Rogue One,” with the title character (once again played by Diego Luna) going from listless drifter to a politically resolute figure in the burgeoning Rebellion.

With “Andor” Season 2, the final season of this “Star Wars” story, O’Reilly really gets to shine, as we see her complete her transition from senate leader to the principal in a...

7 Details You Missed In The Star Wars: Andor Season 2 Trailer
Image
The drought is over. The skies have opened up and sent bountiful rain in answer to our prayers. By the skies, of course, I mean Lucasfilm and Disney, and by rain, I mean a proper, official trailer for "Andor" season 2. Today is a good day.

More a teaser than a narrative trailer, the 90-second montage features a range of action set pieces, tons of character appearances, a Wachowski-esque dance party, numerous disguises for the eponymous Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), and big appearances from "Rogue One" characters like K-2So, Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn), and of course, Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker). There are plenty of teases and a lot of explosions, suggesting that this season's 12 episodes may be even more action-packed than season 1.

In the interest of fandom and wild speculation, let's go through some of the more curious moments in the trailer and see what they may tell us about...

10 Original Live-Action Disney Movies That Are Better Than The Live-Action Remakes
Image
Some original live-action Disney movies like Hocus Pocus and Enchanted celebrate classic Disney tropes, providing humor and nostalgia. Movies like Tuck Everlasting and Saving Mr. Banks offer fresh perspectives on beloved stories outside of remakes. Pirates of the Caribbean and National Treasure showcase Disney's success with original live-action films beyond remakes.

In an age of cinema hugely characterized by all of Disney's live-action remakes, there are several original live-action Disney movies that are better than most of them. The Disney live-action remake trend took off in the mid-2010s, which can be traced back to the success of Cinderella. Maleficent came out earlier, serving as a soft retelling of Sleeping Beauty from its magnificent villainess' perspective. These movies have seen varying levels of success in capturing what made the original a hit while adding something to the story.

There are still plenty of upcoming Disney live-action remakes that will join the ranks of these titles.

Aardman Working on More Stories Set in the World of ‘Robin Robin,’ Netflix’s Oscar Nominated Musical Film (Exclusive)

“We are currently working on more stories in the world of ‘Robin, Robin,’” Please tells Variety. “I think that’s all we’re allowed to say. But that would certainly be our hopes and dreams. We feel like there are loads more stories to tell in this world, so we’d love to do more.”

“Robin Robin,” whose voice cast includes Bronte Carmichael, Adeel Akhtar, Gillian Anderson and Richard E. Grant, centers on a robin who is raised by a loving family of burglar mice. As Robin grows up, her differences become more apparent. She sets out to pull off a daring heist in a bid to prove to her family...

The 12 Best Scenes In Andor Season 1, Ranked
Image
Initially written off as just another unnecessary spin-off for an ancillary character from a spin-off from the main film series, "Andor" has instead emerged as one of the most exciting, viscerally thrilling, politically charged additions to the "Star Wars" universe since, well, the very first film. With Tony Gilroy at the helm, the series features an array of new characters, masterful pacing, and a dark oppressive feel that hangs over every episode.

"Andor" has constantly hopped between genres, from a heist film to a prison escape to a rebel uprising. It's been described by some as "Les Misérables in space," not something you would expect from the studio that brought you the often frustratingly simple "Obi-Wan Kenobi" and "The Book of Boba Fett."

As well as a strong, nuanced turn from Diego Luna at its center, the series features beautifully observed performances from an incredible cast that includes Fiona Shaw,...

Andor: This Person in Mon Mothma's Family Could Be Her Downfall
Image
Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Andor Season 1.Andor has given Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) more focus than ever before as it tells of the rebellion's beginnings. Throughout the season, Mon has worked behind the scenes to fund the rebellion, disguising herself as a loyal, if controversial, senator for the Empire. But her rebellion has created problems for her. For one, her lack of spare time leads to family drama and earns her resentment from her daughter, Leida (Bronte Carmichael). Her family is unaware of her rebel activity because Mon doesn't expect them to agree, so she is constantly living a lie and cannot trust anyone around her. Besides during the occasional visits from her cousin, Vel Sertha (Faye Marsay). Plus, there is the constant threat of spies, meaning more people she cannot trust. Mon admitted early in the season that she felt as if she was being watched,...

Andor Shows Mon Mothma and Her Family Growing Apart Due to the Rebellion
Image
Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Episodes 1-11 of Andor. One of Andor's many threads is focused on Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) and her family. Mon Mothma has made many appearances throughout Star Wars, but this is the first to showcase her relationship with her family and, more specifically, her daughter, Leida Mothma (Bronte Carmichael). In Andor, Leida is a young woman growing up in Coruscant and unimpressed by her mother. Mon's time is divided between the senate and the rebellion, leaving little time for her family, much to Leida's resentment. That and the fact that Mon can't tell her daughter or husband about her work for the rebellion creates a complex family life. While Leida demonstrates many things expected of a teenage girl in this situation, one of the more surprising is her interest in conservative Chandrilan customs. Episode 11, "Daughter of Ferrix", shows Leida embracing Chandrilan traditions in...

Mon Mothma's Story Takes Another Troubling Turn In Andor Episode 11
Image
This post contains spoilers for "Andor" episode 11.

When it was first revealed that 2015's long-awaited "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" would center on a "not the Galactic Empire" in the form of the First Order, it was hard not to roll one's eyes at the idea. That feeling only intensified when it came to light that the First Order would have its own Death Star-style superweapon in the form of Starkiller Base. Was this really the best premise the movie's creatives could come up with? The Empire all over again, only bigger and more extreme? As though the generation of civilians who grew up hearing stories about Emperor Palpatine's terrible regime would somehow get it in their heads that the real problem with the Empire was that it didn't go far enough. Talk about hack writing, eh?

"Lord, what fools these mortals be," as Puck puts it in William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream.

What Is Mon Mothma's Connection to Her Cousin in Andor?
Image
Andor follows the early days of the rebellion, giving a spotlight to the well-known but rarely in-focus Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly). The show provides the opportunity to explore the Mothma family, including her husband, Perrin Fertha (Alastair Mackenzie), and their daughter, Leida (Bronte Carmichael). Mon and Perrin's marriage seems more political than love, as seen by the fact that they don't get along. And Leida prefers her father to her mother. In Andor, Mon Mothma is the Chandrilan senator, trying to fund the rebellion without raising suspicions. Due to the danger of her work, there are few people she can trust, and her own family isn't included in that group. She fights for the rebel cause alone, knowing that if she slips up, everything could be over before it truly begins. The danger she lives with daily would make anyone stressed, and Mon Mothma is no different. She and her ally,...

‘2022 Oscar-Nominated Short Films: Animation’ Review: It’s Aardman’s Race to Lose
Image
Chances are, you landed on this review because you’re trying to game your Oscar pool, looking for a clue as to what will win the always-underseen shorts categories — in a year when they were unceremoniously booted from the telecast, no less. Well, if it’s predictions you’re looking for, there’s little contest among this year’s cartoon contenders: Academy favorite Aardman Animations has delivered a delightful frontrunner in “Robin Robin.” But don’t stop reading there! In an unusually adult-leaning year, the traditionally kid-friendly category is well worth watching in its entirety, whether in theaters or on demand, thanks to stalwart distributor ShortsTV.

The program opens with “Robin Robin,” which seems poised to earn Aardman its fifth Oscar. This half-hour Christmas musical was hatched by Dan Ojari and Mikey Please, who joined the Bristol-based studio for the express purpose of co-directing this Netflix holiday special, about a...

Oscar Animated Shorts Are Long on Ideas
Image
The five Oscar-nominated animated pics use many styles and storytelling genres to explore deeper issues. Below is a look into each work of art.

Affairs of the Art

Pet taxidermy. Screw threads. Pickling. These are the delightfully strange obsessions of the family in Joanna Quinn and Les Mill’s short film. Audiences return to the life of Beryl, a middle-age, middle-class female hero who doesn’t hide her quirks and flaws or those of the people she loves. Much of the film is based on the filmmakers’ observations of people in their own lives and themselves. Beryl’s love of drawing is taken from Quinn’s own early passion for art and drawing. Mills often takes ideas for dialogue from conversations he’s heard. Quinn considered going digital for the film but ultimately went back to hand-drawn animation.

Oscars 2022: The Best Animated Shorts Nominees, Ranked
Image
Netflix may be leading the pack in overall Oscar nominations this year, but the streamer is outnumbered in at least one category. Netflix’s singular nominee for Best Animated Short represents the category’s most classic contender in “Robin Robin,” a charming tale of difference told with cute fuzzy animals from beloved British animation house Aardman, the four-time Oscar-winning studio behind “Wallace and Gromit.”

While “Robin Robin” is the clear frontrunner this year,, the rest of the category is filled with experimental and challenging fare from around the world.

It may not make the race very interesting, but the viewing is another story.

Playing as if in a different world entirely, the other four contenders feature poignant meditations on love and romance, a whimsical character study of an eccentric artist and her sister’s obsession with taxidermy, and a shocking mini-horror about a secret police agent and her torture dog.

Directors of Netflix’s Oscar-Shortlisted Animation ‘Robin Robin’ Discuss Musicality and Stop-Motion
Image
Netflix’s “Robin Robin” uses stop-motion animation and felt figures to tell its charming, musical story of a bird who doesn’t quite belong in a family of stealthy mice and discovers her real place in the world. It’s a Christmas tale that’s also made the Oscar shortlist for animated shorts. Directors-writers Dan Ojari and Mikey Please had been working with each other off and on for about 10 years and formed Parabella Studios, where they began developing “Robin Robin.” A serendipitous meeting with Aardman’s Sarah Cox led them to that legendary studio, which they found to be a perfect match for their own sensibilities. It’s Aardman’s first musical. Film’s voice stars include Bronte Carmichael, Richard E. Grant, Adeel Akhtar and Gillian Anderson.

‘Robin Robin’ Directors Dan Ojari And Mikey Please On Using Needle Felt Characters To “Push The Boundaries Of The Stop Motion Look”
Image
For Robin Robin, directors Dan Ojari and Mikey Please looked towards animated Christmas specials as inspiration for their musical animated short.

Robin Robin follows Robin (Bronte Carmichael), a young bird raised by a family of mice after her egg rolls into a dump. As she grows up and the differences between her and her family become more apparent, Robin sets off on a heist to prove that she can be just as good of a mouse as them. Richard E. Grant, Gillian Anderson, and Adeel Akhtar also voice characters.

This musical animated short has been shortlisted for the Best Animated Short category at the Oscars. Robin Robin was produced by Aardman Animations and is streaming on Netflix.

Deadline: What was the inspiration for Robin Robin?

Dan Ojari: I think the starting point was thinking about the tradition of an animated Christmas special, which me and Mikey love dearly, and they...

Bronte Carmichael
Robin Robin - Amber Wilkinson - 17328
Bronte Carmichael
This latest short film from Aardman studios is aimed at the sort of very young audience who are charmed by The Gruffalo but its sweet centre might prove a bit sticky for older audiences. We meet Robin (Bronte Carmichael) as an egg that has a mini-adventure even before it hatches and who finds herself taken in by a friendly family of mice.

The mice are expert sneakers, going on nightly forays into homes in the district for crumbs and when we catch up with them a year later, we see that Robin, complete with a pair of self-fashioned mouse ears, also goes a long. The trouble is that Robin is terrible at robbing. She thinks she's being quiet when she's singing at the top of her voice and stumbles through rooms like a bull in a china shop. When a night-time adventure sees her path cross that of a local Magpie (Richard.

‘Robin Robin’ Short: Aardman’s First Animated Musical Tackles a Bird’s Identity Crisis
Image
“Robin Robin” (Netflix), the first musical from acclaimed stop-motion animation studio Aardman, is an Oscar-contending, 30-minute holiday short about how our differences make us stronger, created and directed by Dan Ojari and Mikey Please (BAFTA winner for “The Eagleman Stag”).

Executive produced by Aardman head of development Sarah Cox, “Robin Robin” features the voice of Bronte Carmichael as Robin, a charmingly awkward bird with an identity crisis, who is adopted into a loving family of burglar mice and plans an ambitious heist to bag the ultimate prize: an entire sandwich. Adeel Akhtar voices the caring but cautious Dad Mouse single-handedly raising a family of five, joined by Richard E. Grant as the obsessive collector Magpie, and Gillian Anderson as the deliciously villainous Cat.

“The cast really took to the music very well,” Ojari said. “That was a bit of a leap of faith for all of us, because we hadn’t made a musical before,...

Robin Robin Trailer: A Bird Is Raised by Mice in New Aardman Holiday Special
Image
Beloved animated studio Aardman Animation have returned with our first look at Netflix's Robin Robin, a 30-minute stop-motion special that could quite easily become the next Christmas classic. From the makers of Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, Chicken Run, and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit as well as the rest of the Wallace and Gromit series, Robin Robin follows a bird raised by mice, who begins to question where she belongs and sets off on a daring journey of self-discovery.

The trailer reveals the kind of achingly adorable, charmingly, simple-yet-beautifully-detailed character design that the accomplished animation studio has become known for, introducing us to some of the movie's core cast of stop-motion animal characters. The movie has also amassed some major names to provide the voices of the various animals, including Golden Globe winner Gillian Anderson, Oscar nominee Richard E. Grant, and The Big Sick and Sweet Tooth star Adeel Akhtar.

Disney Plus Added 3 New Movies And TV Shows Today
Image
Disney Plus added a pretty big bulk of content to kick off September last week, but unfortunately, they won’t be following it up with another meaty one, as today only brings us 3 new titles to feast on. That being said, there’s at least one popular movie included that subscribers may want to check out.

To begin with, though, a few of the platform’s ongoing TV series have received new episodes. Those would be Weird But True Episode 305, “Photography” and One Day at Disney Episode 141, “Amanda Lauder: Chef Chocolatier.” Perhaps not the most exciting titles out there, but fans who’ve been following along will no doubt want to catch the latest installments.

As for the aforementioned movie, that’d be 2018’s Christopher Robin, the last cinematic outing for Winnie the Pooh which basically gave the Poohverse the Hook treatment. It stars Ewan McGregor as an all-grown-up Christopher Robin,...

Disney Plus Is Adding 3 New Movies/TV Shows This Week
Image
Disney Plus added a pretty sizeable haul to kick off September this past Friday, so that should last you well into next week if you plan on watching it all. In contrast, this coming Friday is set to deliver only a small pile of three fresh titles. Still, there’s one popular movie amongst them that subscribers need to catch once it becomes available on September 11th.

First of all, a couple of the streaming service’s ongoing TV series get new episodes next week – Weird But True Episode 305, “Photography” and One Day at Disney Episode 141, “Amanda Lauder: Chef Chocolatier.” By this point, most of D+’s weekly shows have dried up, but there will be more around next month. Not least The Mandalorian.

As for the new movie that’s added on Friday, that’s 2018’s Christopher Robin, the last cinematic outing for Winnie the Pooh and the other...

Review: Christopher Robin
Ever since Loggins and Messina tugged on our heartstrings with the wistful ‘70s ballad “House on Pooh Corner”, the notion of saying goodbye to childhood playmates has tinged A.A. Milne’s delightful Winnie the Pooh stories. It was seemingly inevitable that the song would be turned into a story, which more or less explains this summer’s Christopher Robin. The film, out now from Walt Disney Home Entertainment is incredibly predictable but still charming in its own way.

We have an adult Christopher (Ewan McGregor) who has married Evelyn (Hayley Atwell) and they have a daughter Madeline (Bronte Carmichael). However, the joy of childhood is gone in his life, replaced with drudgery, as he has become the London equivalent of the salaryman, working for a gray luggage company with inept management.

While the audience is shown that the inhabitants of the Hundred Acre Wood gang – Winnie the Pooh (Jim Cummings), Owl (Toby Jones), Tigger,...

Ewan McGregor's Screen Test With Winnie the Pooh Is Too Pure
Ready to feel like a kid again? In Walt Disney Pictures' Christopher Robin, a now grown-up Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor) has long since forgotten his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood—Winnie the Pooh (Jim Cummings) included. Hardened by his father's death and World War II, he settles for a job at Winslow Luggages, where he's tasked with firing 20 percent of the staff to save the company. With the weight of the world on his shoulders, Christopher needs his friends now more than ever—and so do his wife (Hayley Atwell) and daughter (Bronte Carmichael/Else Minell Solak). So, Winnie the Pooh asks Rabbit (Peter Capaldi), Eeyore (Brad Garrett), Piglet (Nick Mohammed), Kanga (Sophie Okonedo) and Roo...

‘Christopher Robin’ Review
Stars: Ewan McGregor, Hayley Atwell, Bronte Carmichael, Mark Gatiss, Oliver Ford Davies, Ronke Adekoluejo, Adrian Scarborough, Roger Ashton-Griffiths, Ken Nwosu, John Dagleish, Amanda Lawrence | Written by Alex Ross Perry, Tom McCarthy, Allison Schroeder | Directed by Marc Forster

Disney’s Christopher Robin, starring Ewan McGregor and Haylee Atwell and directed by Marc Forster, is not to be confused with the recent release of Goodbye Christopher Robin a year previous that explores the true story of the conception of A.A. Milne’s beloved characters and the torturous family dynamics and abuse sustained at the hands of at the time unknown and undiagnosed mental health issues.

Disney’s adaption is a completely original and fictional take on the tale of Winnie the Pooh and friends in an adventure primarily aimed at the target audience for children, that never exceeds the boundary of the genre and crafts itself in beautiful pregnancy. Both make an...

Christopher Robin Premiere Interviews: Ewan McGregor, Hayley Atwell, Avengers, Kenobi & more
We were charmed and delighted to interview the cast and crew on the red carpet of the UK Premiere of Disney’s Christopher Robin about the boy who inspired A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh stories, held in London on the 5th of August 2018.

The film stars Ewan McGregor, Hayley Atwell, Mark Gatiss, Sophie Okonedo and Bronte Carmichael. It is written by Marc Foster, who talks to us about the timelessnessof the stories, as well as being pleased not to be doing World War Z 2. McGregor ponders once more the much-mooted Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone Star Wars film, and given the events of Avengers Infinity War Hayley Atwell muses on the possibility of Agent Peggy Carter turning up in Avengers 4.

An adult Christopher Robin, who is now focused on his new life, work, and family, suddenly meets his old friend Winnie the Pooh, who returns to his unforgotten childhood past...

China Bans Disney’s ‘Christopher Robin’ Due To Sensitivities Between Winnie The Pooh & President Xi Jinping
Winnie The Pooh is not heading to the Middle Kingdom after Disney’s Christopher Robin was banned in China due to sensitivities between Chinese President Xi Jinping and the honey-loving bear.

Disney’s distribution chief Cathleen Taff, who is Executive Vice President of Theatrical Distribution, Franchise Management and Business & Audience Insights at the Hollywood studio confirmed the ban, according to the Associated Press.

China has been increasingly cautious about Winnie The Pooh in the last few years after it emerged that President Xi was growing sensitive about the similarities between himself and A.A. Milne’s creation. As a result, Pooh has been banned on social media in the country and has become a symbol of political resistance with detractors of the Communist party.

In July, John Oliver, host of HBO’s The Last Week Tonight, was censored in China after a segment pointing out the resemblance. “Apparently, Xi Jinping is...

A.A. Milne
‘Christopher Robin’ Review: Ewan McGregor, Meet a Bear Named Pooh
A.A. Milne
Fans of A.A. Milne’s delightful stories about an industrious, honey-obsessed bear named Winnie the Pooh and his gang of forest-dwelling droogs — Kanga and her child Roo, pragmatic Rabbit, wise old Owl, anxious Piglet, the emo-dour donkey Eeyore, the manic and possibly Meth-addicted dynamo that is Tigger — may recall that, at the end of The House at Pooh Corner, there’s a farewell party. Christopher Robin, their young human friend, is saying goodbye; he’s heading off to a world far beyond the land of heffalumps and woozles. The scene...

China Snubs Disney’s ‘Christopher Robin’ Amid Longtime Winnie the Pooh Ban
Disney’s “Christopher Robin” will not screen in China, an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap.

The decision not to screen “Christopher Robin” follows China’s longtime policy of banning references to Winnie the Pooh in its media, including its social media sites, due to comparison’s to the country’s leader Xi Jinping. The ban represents the government’s attempt to stop ridicule of its leader.

In one past example of a joking Winnie the Pooh meme, Xi and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe are compared to Pooh and Eeyore after what many observers saw as a disastrous attempt to shake hands in 2014. In another, President Barack Obama is compared to Tigger walking alongside Pooh.

The insider who spoke to TheWrap said China officials did not share a specific reason they kept the movie out of the country.

China also recently blocked HBO and all mentions of...

Ewan McGregor, Brad Garrett, Jim Cummings, and Nick Mohammed in Christopher Robin (2018)
Disney’s live-action “Christoper Robin” has opened with a respectable $1.5 million in Thursday night preview showings in North America.

Lionsgate’s action-comedy “The Spy Who Dumped Me” took in $950,000 in previews, while Fox’s sci-fier “The Darkest Minds” launched with a quiet $550,000 at 2,575 venues.

The preview number for “Christopher Robin” topped Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” which opened with $1.3 million in Thursday previews and went on to a $33 million opening weekend in March.

“Christopher Robin” is expected to battle the second weekend of Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” for first place as both titles head for Friday-Sunday totals of around $30 million. “The Spy Who Dumped Me” has been pegged to finish in the $10 million to $13 million range.

“Christoper Robin,” based on the characters from A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh books, hopes to draw nostalgia lovers and their children when it opens on 3,602 screens Friday. Ewan McGregor plays...
