7 Star Wars quotes fans always get wrong
Image
Even the galaxy far, far away isn’t immune to the Mandela effect. From misquoted Jedi wisdom to lines that are constantly attributed to the wrong character, Star Wars fans have been getting certain iconic phrases wrong for decades. Blame what you will – pop culture, bad memory, or the fact that we’ve all been doing Darth Vader impressions since preschool.

Here are six Star Wars quotes you’ve probably been wrong about, and the correct versions of each one.

1. “Luke, I am your father.”

Actual quote: “No, I am your father.”

This is the big one. It’s the king of misquotes that even The Big Bang Theory got wrong. Darth Vader never says “Luke” in that scene. The legendary line from The Empire Strikes Back is much more abrupt and, honestly, way more chilling when you realize he's directly answering Luke's accusation that Vader killed his father.

2. “May the force be with you,...

10 Biggest Star Wars Changes George Lucas Made With The Special Editions
Image
Once upon a time, "Star Wars" was king of the world. Since its beginning in 1977, George Lucas' astronomically successful trilogy -- comprising "Star Wars," "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" -- captivated audiences of all ages, earned millions at the box office and in merchandise sales, spawned countless knockoffs, and essentially paved the way for modern Hollywood, for better or worse. Without "Star Wars," Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic (Ilm), and the Thx sound system do not exist, nor do LucasArts, Skywalker Sound, or Pixar Animation.

Yeah, "Star Wars" was a big deal.

So, it made sense that Lucas would continue to milk his franchise for all its worth. In 1997, 14 years following the release of "Return of the Jedi" and two years before "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace," Lucas re-released the original trilogy in newly minted "Special Editions," featuring a plethora of changes, some controversial, some essential, designed...

Star Wars: Visions season 2 episodes, ranked
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers from Star Wars: Visions season 2.

The beauty of an anthology series like Visions is that every episode feels fresh. Every episode is a brand new story with new characters that is full of possibility. The range of stunning animation and diverse interpretations of Star Wars made each episode a joy to watch.

Of course, some episodes resonated more strongly than others. Every episode featured flawless and striking animation, meaning that these rankings will focus more so on the story and character development than the animation of each episode.

10 Star Wars Special Edition Changes That Make No Sense
Image
George Lucas very clearly has a particular vision of Star Wars that has deviated from how many of his greatest fans have perceived the pop culture phenomenon. It seems like no matter how many years go by, there is always something Lucas wants to improve about his original Star Wars trilogy or its prequels. Obviously, Lucas prides himself on being a technical visionary in cinema, but his ambitious pursuits don't always result in the best version of something. When concerning Star Wars (especially the original trilogy), fans don't much care for ways to "improve" them. Of course, Lucas has a right to do whatever he wants.

The problem with always finding something to tweak or edit is that the original living organism of a film's production becomes devalued in a way. There is always a moment of understanding a filmmaker needs to have when it is truly time to move...

The 10 Best Star Wars Characters Who Have Less Than 15 Minutes Of Screen Time
Image
These 10 Star Wars characters shockingly have less than 15 minutes of screen time each, and they definitely deserved so much more. Plenty of Star Wars' best characters have much less screen time than one might think, especially when compared to other, seemingly less prominent characters. In fact, characters like Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa bewilderingly don't even make it into the top 10 of Star Wars characters with the most screen time.

In part, this is due to the nature of Star Wars' movies and TV shows. Characters like Ahsoka Tano and Ezra Bridger top the charts because they have appeared in so many episodes of Star Wars' shows. For characters who have only ever (or at least primarily) been in the movies, it's difficult to compete with that much screen time. These 10 characters represent a mix of Star Wars shows and movies, yet they each have less than 15 minutes of total...

This is Gold Leader: The legacy of Angus MacInnes
Image
As the Star Wars community continues to mourn the loss of Angus MacInnes, many have looked back at the character he helped make popular in the franchise. Although known by many as Gold Leader from A New Hope, the character's complete name was Jon "Dutch" Vander.

The first chronological appearance of Vander was in the Season 3 episode of Star Wars Rebels, "Secret Cargo." He had already the call sign of Gold Leader in the episode and was leading a group of Y-Wing light bombers. "Phoenix Leader, this is Gold Squadron, we catch you at a bad time," Vander said to Hera Syndulla.

In the episode, Vander and his bombers were tasked with guarding Mon Mothma to her next destination. He butted heads with Ezra Bridger and Chopper the Droid but worked with the group to secure Mothma to another planet to deliver a speech in support of the Rebellion...

The Greatest Star Wars Novels, Ranked
Image
Star Wars' history as a multimedia sensation is coded into its DNA, and its influence expanded into books almost as soon as A New Hope was released. Brian Daley wrote a pulpy trilogy of novels expanding on Han Solo, which were all released between the first two films. After the original trilogy finished, the property continued to thrive on bookshelves in the 1990s, keeping it alive among fans where it otherwise might have languished.

Instead, it took over the world in force. Like anything else, Star Wars novels have a range of quality. But between novels like the original Heir to the Empire Trilogy from Legends to Thrawn's new mainline canon stories in the Ascendancy Trilogy, there are more than enough top-quality books to make this a worthwhile medium for Star Wars.

Updated on December 25, 2024, by Christopher Raley: Star Wars books are, in some ways, as beloved as the movies...

10 Controversial Plot Twists That Ruined Movies
Image
Many film genres have a variety of storytelling tools available to keep the pressure not only on their characters but also on their audience. One of the trickiest tools to use is the plot twist because it relies on both the shock of the reveal and the steps taken to set it up. A twist that feels like it came out of nowhere can work, but examining a good story will show how the creators fed us the right information to get us cozy enough to be shocked.

And then, sometimes, that twist doesn't stick the landing. Sometimes it fumbles execution so badly that it ruins the entire movie. It's hard to come back from that. Ryan Reynolds building a billion-dollar empire out of his horrific no-mouth reveal as Deadpool in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" is a fluke that speaks to the actor's determination to rebuild his character. But usually, the...

B&b Spoilers: Wedge Between Brooke And Ridge – Taylor’s Prediction Has Legs
Heather Tom, Thorsten Kaye, and Katherine Kelly Lang in The Bold and the Beautiful (1987)
The Bold and the Beautiful (B&b) spoilers document that Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) is her own worst enemy. Taylor Hayes (Rebecca Budig) and Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) agree.

Brooke lived up to Taylor’s tag while Ridge’s other family members chatted at the cliff house. The parallel conversation that Taylor and Steffy had hinted at a potential opening.

If Hope Logan’s (Annika Noelle) alignment with Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) continues, then Brooke and Ridge will be at increasing odds. Ridge blames Hope for planting the takeover idea in Carter’s mind, which isn’t true. But Brooke is incapable of convincing Ridge otherwise.

The Bold And The Beautiful Spoilers – It’s About The Children Again

Brooke and Taylor’s children have long been arguable proxies for the battle between both ladies for Ridge’s heart. He’s been married to Brooke an incredibly soapy eight times,...

‘Ice Age 6’ Is Happening With Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah & More Back; Sixthquel Getting A Theatrical Release – Update
Image
Updated: Disney and 20th Century Animation announced Friday at D23 Brazil that Ice Age 6 is happening. The sixthquel will get a theatrical release. The original franchise was created by Blue Sky Studios, which Disney acquired through the 20th Century Fox merger, later shuttering the Oscar-winning animation division.

Original castmembers Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, Denis Leary and Simon Pegg are returning. The pic is currently being made.

Through five movies, the Ice Age pics have grossed $3.2 billion worldwide, but like all franchises, the weight of gravity weighs down at the box office with each sequel. The most recent movie, 2016’s Ice Age: Collision Course, grossed $408.5 million globally.

There were various short pics and series starring a woolly mammoth, sloth, saber-toothed tiger and other pre-historic animals. There was also the 2022 spinoff The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild.

This Ice Age is the first pic in the franchise since Disney bought Blue Sky.

Star Wars is meant for my young daughter, so maybe chill out on the negativity
Image
I remember, as a child, making my own audiotapes of Star Wars scenes, particularly the dogfight in Return of the Jedi. Now, as a parent, I love watching my daughter play with her Synara San action figure from Star Wars Resistance. I love seeing her say, "It's Rey," any time Daisy Ridley is in anything. Star Wars is meant to be fun.

The overall popularity of the franchise stems from it being fun. It's fun to watch the films and shows. It's also something you can pass down to the next generation because the stories are universal and have lessons for both young and older audiences. My concern is how a portion of the fanbase now seems to forget that.

As a fan, I enjoy the majority of what Disney and Lucasfilm have produced because the story is timeless. The story is about a diverse group of good people conquering an evil empire.

Will Wedge Antilles appear in 'The Mandalorian and Grogu?'
Image
He survived both Death Star trench runs and has been a popular character since his first appearance in A New Hope, becoming a staple in the rest of the original trilogy. However, Wedge Antilles has only had one movie appearance since then, when the character made a brief cameo in The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.

The character's arc could lend itself to appearing in future Star Wars projects, particularly the Mandoverse story. After the battle of Jakku, Wedge accepted a position as a new flight instructor in the Hosnian Prime system.

This all occurs before the first episode of The Mandalorian, which kicks off the Mandoverse story. In The Mandalorian, several Rebel pilots have appeared, and it would be logical for Wedge to step away from his instructing duties on a mission to help fight with the New Republic against the remaining Imperial remnant.

It would make sense in this...

John Leguizamo Confirms Ice Age 6: The Incredible Story Behind the One Condition Fox Set for Blue Sky If They Wanted to Make Ice Age

One of the most underrated classics in animation history has to be the Ice Age films. Despite its impact on pop culture, the millions of dollars it made Fox, or the multi-film saga that spanned over the years, it is constantly counted out time and time again. In the face of the massive and flashy productions of Disney, this series was more grounded in reality, so much so that it had talking animals.

However, it was not an easy task for the creators of the movie to get it made. With conversations about a sixth part being in the works, let’s take a look back at how the first film got greenlit in the first place. During an interview, the director of the film talked about how he was able to get it approved by the studio.

Rise Of Skywalker Secretly Made One Rogue Squadron Hero's Life Heartbreakingly Tragic
Image
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker took one of the more tragic characters in the franchise and made their life that much more heartbreaking. The chronological order of Star Wars movies is admittedly full of tragedies, from the downfall of Anakin Skywalker to the sad story of Luke Skywalker in the sequel trilogy. The franchise has always ridden the line between fun, escapist space adventures and more grounded, sad, human stories, which will undoubtedly continue in upcoming Star Wars movies.

The best-ranked Star Wars movies in the franchise tend to be those that deal directly with more hard-hitting subjects. The Empire Strikes Back explores Luke's tragic confrontation with Vader and the revelation of their connection, culminating in Luke losing a hand and Han Solo being trapped in carbonite. As evident, heartbreaking lives have been a constant throughout the franchise. However, one of Star Wars' best characters goes under the radar...

One Tifa Change In FF7 Rebirth Sets Up Big Story Differences In FF7 Remake Part 3
Image
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth expands Tifa's character arc and relationships, particularly her connection with Aerith. Tifa sharing the truth of what happened at Nibelheim with Aerith is a significant change from the original FF7. Tifa's increased reliance on Aerith may play a crucial role in the final chapter, exploring her struggles in a new way.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth makes a number of tweaks to the original story and characters, and Tifa in particular receives some new attention that could set up a fresh approach to her character arc in FF7 Remake Part 3. As a powerful fighter, a key member of the Avalanche splinter cell, and a principal love interest for Cloud, Tifa has always had a major slice of the spotlight. The story of FF7 has a lot of ground to cover, however, and the original game didn't necessarily have time to dwell on all of her nuances or relationships with other characters.

Does Wedge Die In FF7 Remake?
Image
Wedge's fate in FF7 Remake is confirmed in FF7 Rebirth. Wedge's story connects to the original FF7, showcasing the limitations of challenging fate. FF7 Remake closed Wedge's chapter with finality, maintaining emotional impact.

Final Fantasy 7 has never been the kind of story where everyone makes it out alive, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake can be similarly merciless. Focusing on the first chapter of the story that takes place in the city of Midgar, FF7 Remake pits a splinter cell of the terrorist group Avalanche against the ruthless corporation Shinra. The splinter cell includes the iconic Barret and Tifa, and filling out its cast are Jessie, Biggs, and Wedge, who all get fleshed out in FF7 Remake in ways that make their stories hit harder.

[Warning: This article contains Spoilers for events of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and the original 1997 game.]Wedge's role gets a particular big expansion in FF7 Remake, going from a very minimal presence to someone very invested in trying to support Avalanche's cause.

The Correct Order To Watch The Ice Age Movies
Image
When Chris Wedge's animated film "Ice Age" first came out in 2002, it was considered novel and striking for many reasons. It was set in prehistoric times yet eschewed dinosaurs in favor of megafauna living in the Pleistocene Epoch. The three main characters were a sloth named Sid (John Leguizamo), a smilodon named Diego (Denis Leary), and a mammoth named Manfred aka Manny (Ray Romano), and they were engaged in a great migration to flee the oncoming Ice Age. The plot of their first movie apes John Ford's 1946 Western "3 Godfathers," as the three animals discover a human infant that they must keep safe and deliver back to the then-evolutionarily-novel homo sapiens living nearby.

The design of "Ice Age" was striking, aiming for broad, stylized characters that were markedly different from the friendly, big-eyed protagonists of Disney pictures. It certainly helped that the "Ice Age" movies featured a character named Scrat,...

Star Wars Characters That Definitely Deserved Better From the Movies
Image
It’s hard to believe it’s been 47 years since we first witnessed the adventures of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, but across the nine-movie Skywalker saga, two standalone movies, a multitude of TV series, and one questionable Holiday Special, we’ve learned it’s a big ol’ galaxy out there. With enough characters to fill a Death Star, it’s inevitable that not every player in this grand space opera would get the same attention as Luke, Han, and Leia.

In fact, the franchise has allowed a few characters to slip to the sidelines. From major players who were discarded into the trash compactor to those who didn’t resonate with fans and were quietly pushed to the side, here are 12 Star Wars characters who deserved better.

How Star Wars Explained A New Hope's Fake Wedge
Image
Wedge Antilles had two actors in A New Hope: Colin Higgins and Denis Lawson, with Higgins getting fired due to not knowing his lines. David Ankrum dubbed the voices for both actors due to a budget and time constraints, with Lucas wanting American accents for X-Wing pilots. Fake Wedge finally got his own name, Col Takbright, in the anthology From a Certain Point of View, making him a part of Star Wars lore.

As most dedicated fans know, Rebel pilot Wedge Antilles was portrayed by two actors in Star Wars: A New Hope: Colin Higgins in the mission briefing in Yavin 4, and Denis Lawson during the assault on the Death Star. The latter went on to become the face of the character and returned for Episodes V, VI and IX. To make things even more complicated, there was also a third actor who dubbed the voices in A...

FF7 Rebirth Has A Major Biggs & Wedge Problem
Image
The Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy changes the game's story, with characters who died in the original game still alive. The game defies fate and follows a new timeline, making it a fresh story despite its nostalgic feeling. The butterfly effect and the role of the Whispers may lead to unexpected consequences for minor characters like Biggs and Wedge.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the second part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, has been officially revealed, and Square Enix shows that it has no qualms in continuing to change the game's story. This has resulted in characters who died in the first part of the original game still being alive going into Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. If FF7 Remake followed the original story, then both Biggs and Wedge would be dead at the start of FF7 Rebirth, having been crushed by the falling Sector 7 plate. However, that's not quite how things go in Remake.

Ahsoka's Mary Elizabeth Winstead Sought Star Wars Advice From Real-Life Partner Ewan McGregor
Image
Star Wars: Ahsoka star Mary Elizabeth Winstead has revealed that she turned to her real life partner Ewan McGregor for advice about joining a galaxy far, far away.

While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Winstead was asked about joining the Star Wars franchise last year, as she made her debut in the live action Disney+ series Ahsoka. Winstead, who is in a relationship with Ewan McGregor, who has played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy and on Disney+, said that “it was great to have a direct line to what this experience was going to be like, and it was nothing but positive.” Winstead and McGregor aren't the only members of their family to be in the franchise, as his daughter Esther-Rose McGregor had a cameo in an Obi-Wan Kenobi episode. McGregor's uncle, Denis Lawson, appeared as Wedge in the original trilogy before coming back for a cameo in The Rise of Skywalker.

Rosario Dawson & Mary Elizabeth Winstead Teamed Up in a Tarantino Movie
Image
Rosario Dawson returns as Ahsoka Tano in her own spin-off series, having played the character in both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett prior. As established in the animated shows The Clone Wars and Rebels, Ahsoka is a character who was trained by Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) who, until he appeared in Ahsoka, was last featured in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor. Star Wars is a family affair for McGregor, whose uncle Denis Lawson played Wedge in the original 1977 film and whose daughter Esther Rose McGregor recently appeared in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ahsoka adds to the McGregor family roster by casting Ewan McGregor's wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera. But the links don't stop there. Long before Ahsoka, this duo teamed up for Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof.

Wedge Antilles' Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Cameo Is Actually Sad
Image
Most Star Wars fans don't know that Wedge Antilles and Snap Wexley are related. In the Star Wars novel Aftermath, Wedge trains Snap Wexley and later becomes his stepfather. There are still opportunities for Wedge to appear in future Star Wars projects and finally have his story told.

The final battle of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is chock-full of cameos. One of the most obvious is Wedge Antilles in the gunner seat of the Millennium Falcon. While the moment is just a brief and fun nod to the Star Wars original trilogy, the comics and novels that surround Wedge reveal things were far more somber, as he had just faced a tragic loss.

During Star Wars: A New Hope, Wedge was one of the X-Wing pilots who joined Luke Skywalker in the Death Star attack. Under the call sign Red Two, he flew alongside Luke during the...

Annapurna Animation Expands With ‘Nimona’ Team; Announces Pair of Upcoming Features

Following the release of its first animated feature, Nimona, Annapurna Animation has brought on director Nick Bruno and producer Julie Zackary to join their creative leadership team while expanding its upcoming feature slate to include an adaptation of video game Stray, along with Foo, an original title from Ice Age helmer and Blue Sky co-founder Chris Wedge.

Based on Nd Stevenson’s graphic novel of the same name, Nimona began its life at Blue Sky, and moved to Annapurna after Disney shut down the production and studio following its acquisition of Fox, which owned the animation umbrella. Netflix released the well-received Nimona in June.

Bruno — a Blue Sky alum, who made his directorial debut with Spies in Disguise — is already developing and directing an untitled original feature for the studio, while developing additional originals. Zackary is joining the studio as head of animation production, having previously served as vp of...

“Lost, alone, and separated from family, a stray cat must untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten city,” reads the game’s official synopsis. “Stray is a third-person cat adventure game set amidst the detailed, neon-lit alleys of a decaying cybercity and the murky environments of its seedy underbelly. Roam surroundings high and low, defend against unforeseen threats, and solve the mysteries of this unwelcoming place inhabited by curious droids and dangerous creatures.

‘Stray’ Video Game to Become a Movie as Annapurna Ramps up Animation Department
Nick Bruno
Annapurna Animation is kicking into overdrive, with director Nick Bruno (Netflix’s “Nimona” and 20th Century Studio’s “Spies in Disguise”) and producer Julie Zackary joining up.

They are also planning to expand their feature development slate, with the first flick being an adaptation of the acclaimed “play as a cat” video game “Stray.” Also on tap is a new film from Chris Wedge (“Ice Age”), an original called “Foo.” Along with directing an untitled original in development, Bruno is actively developing original ideas for Annapurna Animation.

“Stray,” an open-world adventure where you play as an ordinary cat, earned strong reviews and 2.5 million copies sold in the first month prior to even launching on Steam. The game came from Annapurna Interactive, so the synergy speaks for itself, and Annapurna plans to adapt more titles from its game library.

Wedge is an Academy Award-winning director and producer as well as a...

Star Wars Brings Back An Original Trilogy Fan-Favourite, Makes Legends Characterisation Canon
Image
Wes Janson, a beloved rebel pilot from Star Wars Legends, is confirmed to have participated in the Battle of Endor in the canon timeline. In the Legends continuity, Janson appeared in various works, showcasing his sense of humor through pranks and witticisms. The precise details of Janson's role in the Battle of Endor remain vague in both the canon and Legends continuities, leaving room for future appearances.

While he is not shown in Return of the Jedi, a beloved rebel pilot from the Star Wars Legends continuity is now confirmed to have participated in the Battle of Endor in the canon timeline. Wes Janson debuted as Wedge Antilles’s tail gunner at the Battle of Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back, with a well-placed shot from the turret’s harpoon gun allowing Wedge to tie up the legs of an Imperial At-at. Janson was further explored in other Legends-era materials...

Ice Age Movies In Order: How To Watch By Release Date Or Chronologically
Image
Watching the Ice Age movies in order is easy, as the franchise has a linear timeline with a simple storyline centered around Manny, Sid, Diego, and the popular character, Scrat. Despite being successful overall, the Ice Age movies have faced mixed reviews for its recent entries, with 2016's Collision Course being a disappointment compared to previous films. This could indicate a decline in audience interest, and future films will need to work hard to feel fresh. The Ice Age series includes short films that add humor and expand on the films' stories, with most of them featuring the fan-favorite character, Scrat. These shorts have been released as special features on DVDs and before screenings of other films.

Watching the Ice Age movies in order is a relatively simple task since the beloved animated franchise has followed a linear timeline with its releases. The original Ice Age was helmed by Chris Wedge...

Every Member Of Ewan McGregor's Family Who've Appeared In Star Wars
Image
Last year, Ewan McGregor returned to Star Wars in the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series, and it further solidified his lasting legacy in the franchise. Outside the role of Obi-Wan, McGregor has a deep connection to the franchise due to his family’s appearances in different Star Wars projects. While other Star Wars legends like Mark Hamill had his three children cameo in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, McGregor’s familial links to Star Wars are a bit more prominent.

Other prominent names in Star Wars have had their family make cameos, like George Lucas, who had all three of his children, Amanda, Katie, and Jett, appear throughout the prequel trilogy; Amanda Lucas even had multiple roles across all three of the films. More recently, Carrie Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd played Lieutenant Connix in all three of the sequel films, and also served as the body stand-in as Princess Leia...

11 Star Wars Characters Powerful Enough To Beat Thrawn, The Galaxy's Next Big Villain
Image
Grand Admiral Thrawn is renowned for his tactical genius in both the Star Wars canon and Legends continuities, but he is not unbeatable. Created by legendary Star Wars author Timothy Zahn, Grand Admiral Thrawn was one of the greatest strategists in the Empire - both in the old Expanded Universe and in Disney canon. In the EU (now branded "Legends"), he came close to defeating the New Republic. In canon, Palpatine has explicitly noted only Tarkin or Thrawn could have held back the tide of rebellion.

For all that's the case, though, Thrawn is not without his weaknesses. He tends to study his opponents, learning their strategies, so smart commanders can take him by surprise by acting uncharacteristically - or even appointing other leaders to take charge of a battle partway through. He also tends to underestimate the Force, which led to his defeat in Star Wars Rebels' finale. That was only a temporary setback,...

10 Star Wars Characters Who Could Defeat Luke Skywalker
Image
Luke Skywalker is Star Wars' original hero, but there are a few characters who could defeat Luke – be it in a lightsaber fight or as a pilot. After destroying the Death Star, surviving an encounter with Darth Vader, and taking down the Empire, Luke Skywalker became a legend, both in-universe and as a character. Despite all the Jedi that were introduced after the original trilogy, many of which looked more impressive than Luke, Luke is still considered Star Wars’ strongest Jedi.

Star Wars does not have an official power-level system. In other words, there is no official method to compare two Jedi or two Sith, for example. That said, there is more than enough material in the Star Wars canon to compare two different characters in terms of power. This includes their connection to the Force, their lightsaber skills, their flying abilities, and other elements. With that considered, here are...

Star Wars Visions: Every Easter Egg in Aardman's I Am Your Mother
Image
The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: Visions, Season 2, Episode 4, "I Am Your Mother," now streaming on Disney+.

The anthology series Star Wars: Visions has returned to Disney+ for a second season of animated original takes on the galaxy far, far away. Like the first season, Season 2 presents a range of one-shot non-canon stories from various animation studios. This time, however, the studios are from all around the world, presenting stories in a range of visual styles. The season includes an episode by the UK's Aardman Animations, the studio behind Wallace and Gromit, as well as countless other claymation classics.

"I Am Your Mother" is a perfect marriage of Aardman's comedic sensibilities and Star Wars' family stories. The episode follows young Twi'lek pilot Anni and her embarrassing mother as they partake in a family race hosted by Anni's pilot academy. The episode is modeled after British school sports days and...

Star Wars: Visions Vol. 3 Is Reportedly in Development
Image
More Star Wars: Visions could be on the horizon.

According to industry scooper Jeff Sneider, Lucasfilm and Disney are already developing a third volume of the acclaimed anthology series. At the time of writing, Visions Vol. 2 has just been released on Disney+ to very positive reviews but the studios have provided no insight into whether more episodes of the anthology series have been greenlit. No other information on the purposed third volume were shared by Sneider.

Star Wars: Visions currently spans two Volumes that consist of non-canon stories set within the galaxy far, far away. While Season 1 was built entirely on the contributions of anime studios, Season 2 brought in a variety of animation houses from across the globe, including South Africa, India, Ireland, the United Kingdom and South Korea. Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 Filmmakers Were Told To Avoid Using Lightsabers
Image
Close your eyes and meditate on the Force for a moment. What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think about "Star Wars"? For me, it's the opening shot of "A New Hope" when the Tantive IV is being stalked by Darth Vader's Star Destroyer, the Devastator. The next image is, without a doubt, Ben Solo igniting Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber to give to Luke in his hut on Tatooine. By leaps and bounds, the lightsaber has become the most recognizable piece of "Star Wars" lore.

Used sparingly throughout the original trilogy, the Jedi's weapon was only unsheathed in a handful of key moments, allowing for maximum impact when Luke, Obi-Wan or Vader ignited their blade. As the Skywalker saga continued into the prequels, the lightsaber was used one too many times and the magic of seeing it on screen was severely diminished. By choosing to not...

Star Wars: Visions Includes an Original Trilogy Cameo
Image
The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: Visions Season 2, Episode 4, "I Am Your Mother," now streaming on Disney+.

The Star Wars: Visions Season 2 short from Aardman Studios, "I Am Your Mother," features a cameo from an original trilogy actor. Denis Lawson, known for playing Wedge Antilles in four Star Wars films, voices his character in the non-canon story.

The story centers on a young Twilek named Anni learning to be a pilot. She lives on a New Republic world, in a place called Hanna City. Appearing as a special guest at the city's "fancy" flight academy, Wedge speaks more than in the movies. Lawson's beloved Rebel and New Republic pilot is not just a celebrity guest for the fans. Rather, Wedge is a hero of the Galactic Civil War who aspiring pilot Anni would look up to. The event Wedge is there to host is the appropriately silly (for Star Wars) "Family Race.

A Full History Of The Millennium Falcon: Complete Timeline
Image
Chief among Star Wars' vast amount of iconic ships is the Millennium Falcon, with the recent Star Wars: Timelines book helping to outline the freighter's history. The book - written by Kristin Baver, Jason Fry, Cole Horton, Amy Richau, and Clayton Sandell - is dedicated to mapping out the entire history of Star Wars in one place. This allows many interesting elements of the Star Wars franchise to come to light, especially from eras in which their place on the timeline was murky beforehand.

Regarding the Millennium Falcon, Star Wars: Timelines has filled in significant parts of the ship's history before Solo: A Star Wars Story. Given that Solo was the first chronological appearance of the iconic ship - discounting the Easter egg in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith - little was known about the Falcon before this point. After that though, much of the Falcon's...

Star Wars Visions: Aardman’s Racing Pilot Short Brings Back Wedge Antilles: ‘He Has More Lines In Our Film Than The Original Trilogy!’ – Exclusive Image
Image
Part of the joy of Star Wars: Visions is, you never know quite what you’re going to get when you load up an episode. Lucasfilm’s anthology series lets animation houses present their own unique spin on the galaxy far, far away – taking any characters, any settings, any imagery from George Lucas’ sprawling space opera and doing whatever feels right or interesting with them, canon be damned. Think of it like a remix compilation, with wildly creative spins on familiar material from fascinatingly varied voices. Where Volume 1 of Visions was comprised solely of Japanese anime studios, Volume 2 is going worldwide – including a contribution from British stop-motion legends Aardman.

While there’s no Wallace and Gromit or Feathers McGraw here, Aardman’s short ‘I Am Your Mother’ (see what they did there?) is set in the aftermath of the original trilogy, and tells the story of wannabe-pilot Twi’lek tween...

Denis Lawson Is Returning To Voice Wedge Antilles In Aardman's Star Wars Visions Short
Image
Out of all the studios announced to be working on Volume 2 of the animated anthology series, "Star Wars: Visions," it's Aardman Animation's involvement that's got me the most intrigued. The "Wallace & Gromit," "Shaun the Sheep," and "Chicken Run" stop-motion powerhouse's various idiosyncratic settings and toothy-mouthed characters aren't as far removed from the galaxy far, far away as you might imagine, either.

Speaking during the "Visions" panels at "Star Wars" Celebration 2023 in London, England (where members of the /Film crew are currently on the ground), the team behind Aardman's "Visions" short, title "I Am Your Mother," noted that stop-motion has a long history in "Star Wars." Indeed, the Industrial Light & Magic visual effects legend Phil Tippett famously used never-before-seen VFX to make the stop-motion tauntauns and At-ATs more convincing for the Hoth sequences in "The Empire Strikes Back." Magdalena Osinska, the director of "I Am Your Mother," referred to Aardman...

What Day Final Fantasy's 35th Anniversary Actually Is
Image
The massively popular Final Fantasy Japanese RPG franchise is rapidly approaching its 35th anniversary, and its developer and publisher Square Enix has prepared events and multimedia collaborations to celebrate the series’ Coral Anniversary. Perhaps apocryphal stories state that the first game, released on the Nintendo Entertainment System, was originally supposed to be called Fighting Fantasy. That name was already taken by a series of single-player RPG books that launched in 1982. Game director Hironobu Sakaguchi reportedly planned to leave the game industry if the title sold poorly, leading to the Final Fantasy name. The game proved to be anything but final, as the series approaches its sixteenth main numbered entry, and has had dozens of remakes, subseries and spinoffs released over the past three and a half decades.

There are many iconic elements of the series, such as Final Fantasy’s giant, chicken-like Chocobo birds that largely serve the function of horses within its fictional worlds.

Wedge Antilles' Rise Of Skywalker Cameo Was More Tragic Than You Realized
Image
Wedge Antilles (Denis Lawson) returned for a cameo in Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, and while this was a fun moment for fans, it was also more tragic than it seemed. Wedge arrives during the Citizens' Fleet's triumphant entrance, manning the turret of the Millennium Falcon, so his return is presented as joyous and exciting. However, this scene comes right after several Resistance pilots have lost their lives, and the Citizen's Fleet faces more casualties before the end of the battle. The Star Wars books shed light on the significance of these losses in relation to Wedge and why one of them makes his cameo especially tragic.

Wedge Antilles' return in The Rise of Skywalker is tragic because of how it impacts his larger story throughout various Star Wars media. Wedge first appeared in A New Hope as a young and uncertain rebel pilot who...

Andor Episode 6 Has Another Star Wars First: Someone Taking A Piss
Image
Spoilers ahead for "Andor" episode 6.

The "Star Wars" universe is full of food and drink. Blue milk and noodles, cereal, polystarch portion bread, bantha tartare... it's a galactic smorgasbord out there. Our heroes and villains and assorted alien species all feast regularly.

Then what?

All of that sustenance has to go somewhere, right? The famous kids' book tells us that everybody poops, and though we haven't seen that in the "Star Wars" universe, we knew it had to happen. Of course, we hadn't even seen a bathroom until Wedge was interrupted in the "refresher" in "Star Wars Rebels," and a vac-tube toilet showed up in "The Mandalorian" premiere. Now, with the sixth episode in "Andor," all that has changed. A man has peed, people. I repeat, a man has peed.

In case you missed it, the momentous event takes place right before Vel Sartha (Faye Marsay) and Cinta Kaz (Varada Sethu...

Andor Finally Confirms a Star Wars Character Rule the Movies Ignored
Stellan Skarsgård, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Genevieve O'Reilly, Alan Tudyk, Denise Gough, Faye Marsay, Kyle Soller, and Adria Arjona in Andor (2022)
This Star Wars: Andor article contains spoilers.

In space, no one can hear you… urinate. Well, that’s what we’d always thought across the past 45 years of Star Wars. The galaxy has never been afraid to show us what the inside of a Tauntaun looks like, or a limbless Anakin Skywalker being charred on Mustafar, but apparently, seeing your favorite Jedi go to the toilet is a step too far. That was until the latest episode of Andor.

The gritty Star Wars live-action series has tried something new as a genre-defining spy-fi sci-fi that’s set in that sweet spot between George Lucas’ Original Trilogy and the Prequels. It’s starkly different in tone and scope too, less grand space adventure, and more a nitty gritty deep dive into the spark of Rebellion. In the hands of showrunner Tony Gilroy, Andor has explored the more mundane details of the galaxy far,...
